Ordered a large 4 cheese pizza to hotel at 6:53pm and was told it would take 40 minutes . After waiting over an hour we called Rustique and was told it was "on the way." After another 30 minutes the pizza FINALLY arrived at my hotel and was very cold. The garlic bread had been sitting for so long that the cheese had solidified and the pizza was luke-warm at best and tasted mediocre. Had an amazing time yesterday at Rustique pizza. Had an event in the area and needed to feed 20 guests after the event for lunch. As I don't live nearby I found the restaurant on Yelp's comments alone. It could not have been more perfect of a choice. Delicious food and presentation, intimate setting, and warm decor. Our needs were anticipated in advance and every part of our lunch gathering went off without a hitch. All my guests raved about our experience at Rustique. Joe and Dan were so helpful and accommodating to our group. For 20 guests we had a variety of appetizers and salads and about 5 or 6 different brick oven pizzas to try. Those with dietary restrictions were accommodated as well. The cheesecake was delish as well. Glad to have been reminded that it was BYOB. Eh. I wasn't blown away by my experience. Don't get me wrong, the food was good it just didn't knock my socks off. We had the meatballs, the "Tammy" and the "Frank." The Tammy was kind of bland. They had roasted garlic on there I wish they cut up instead of place as a whole clove. The Frank was good but a tad too meaty for my personal preferences - my friend who I came with had no issue with the meaty factor so maybe it's just me. The meatballs were good...average. The place itself is cute and the staff is very friendly and accommodating, I just wasn't blown away. I would come back here if I was meeting up with someone and it was suggested, but I won't go out of my way to visit when there are other really good options in the area. It's amazing how one nightmare customer service situation can take you from loving a place to despising it in the course of a night. This pizza place couldn't tell me if my pizza was being made or not and was unable to let me know if I should feed my child or wait for a pizza that was or wasn't getting made after 2.5 hours waiting! Yes it was Friday and yes everyone is at home for Covid but for heaven sake you can't tell me if my order is being made or not. The soup of the day was spinach egg drop, which came in a huge bowl with delicious fresh bread. It was a meal in itself, which was too bad because we'd also ordered a pizza. We made room. We took half of the large pizza home with us, even after doing our best. I was there to catch up with an old friend and they were content to let us loiter forever. I love this place! My boyfriend and I were in the mood for pizza when we stumbled on this place. It was gorgeous out and they say us right outside underneath a cherry blossom tree. The pizza is delicious thin crust. It has so much flavor. They put the cheese underneath the sauce which I love! Their standard slice is like a grandma pizza. The staff is super friendly and the service is so quick. They also deliver which is so convenient! The waiter brought us out a big bottle of water. The prices are great because one slice is the equivalent of two. They cut their pies into six big pieces. It is convenient for medium size groups. There is an indoor dining room. I love an intimate setting when dining. This place is in the heart of downtown Jersey City. The server was kind and gave prompt service. Good place for delivery pizza and Italian food. We initially found out about Rustique after receiving tons of coupons and magnetic refrigerator menus from them in the mail, and chose to try them out after closer options for delivery Italian food were either closed on the weekend or too pricey. Glad we did. Although I've never been to the restaurant itself, we've probably ordered delivery from here about a dozen or so times this year. The food is always delicious, especially their tomato sauce. We especially appreciate how they have a red and white pizza, which is sometimes hard to find explicitly on the menu of other pizza places. Additionally, Rustique's salads are reasonably priced and always fresh. If you're not in the mood for a full fledged pizza, give their chicken parm sub a try -- A+. If you're having a pizza party on the weekend, and need good food at a good value, Rustique is the place to go. Importantly if you're considering Rustique for delivery -- it's usually pretty fast, even though our home is a good 5 to 10 minute drive from their location on Jersey Ave. They've delivered promptly in the pouring rain and even once when it was snowing, and the pizza was always hot. Finally, there's no way I can conclude this review without mentioning the delivery guys -- literally they are the nicest and most polite people who have ever delivered food to my door. One of them even told me to "have a blessed evening" after paying -- seriously, who's that nice anymore?! Hate to say it but I think this place pretty much sucks. I remember ordering delivery from them a few years ago and not being super impressed for reasons I can't remember now. Then I talked to a friend who told me she liked their pizza so I decided to give them another shot. I ordered an eggplant parm sub and fries and received a completely different sandwich upon delivery. Fries were also stone cold. I called them to let them know and they accommodated delivering the correct eggplant order. Unfortunately it was no where near worth the extra wait or inconvenience. Ok so here we go. This has to be the absolute worst pizza, restaurant i have ever tried. These people must be mentally insane. First of all they charge $3.25 per slice for pizza. Plain pizza. I cant even believe thats legal. And it taste like cardboard with watered down tomato sauce . The sandwiches are horrible and tiny. The salads are awful and just have lettuce and a few slices of tomato and they dare charge $14. And thats not even the worst part. They have the most god awful delivery drivers ive ever seen. These guys are brain dead and when i got to the bottom of why they are so brain dead i learned that they sit outside the restaurant and smoke weed all day/night . Their pizza is very good BUT they are basically ignoring COVID precautions. A few days ago I went to pick up a takeout pizza. You go around to the side door for this and you can easily see into the kitchen. Several people in there who were preparing food were not masked. Rustique continues to be our go to pizza spot in the neighborhood. The service is always warm. The pizza is always great with its daily fresh made mozz and house bread. It's also BYOB so you can't beat that! My personal favorite is their penne vodka with chicken and chicken parm sandwich. First time we tried this place and the pizza was really good. The sauce was delicious! The cheese was so good. Not your typical cheese ( I think they mix mozzarella and ricotta into a delicious cheese mixture) and they were not cheap with the pepperoni either. ($17 for a large pepperoni pie) It was so satisfying. Yummy. And the service was great. Really nice people. My only cons would be that I live far so we had to go get it and by the time we got back home not as hot as we wanted it (but not their fault). However they did give us a 10% discount for picking it up. My uncle wanted cheesecake and they were all out :( & the "large" pizza was more like a medium. Placed an order for pickup yesterday through yelp. Was told it would be ready by 8:02 pm. Parking is hard in this area but there are places to double park. I arrived a few minutes early food took about 10 minutes, ready right on time around 8:05. The area where you pay was a little awkward as someone picking up for the first time. You are basically standing in the kitchen. Not bad just awkward if your food isn't ready yet. The food was great! Got it home still hot and delicious. Do not order a sicilian pizza for delivery. We waited an hour to receive a pizza that was likely on the bottom of a pile of boxes with half of the cheese and an entire slice stuck to the top of the box when we opened it. In addition, each slice was half soggy while the crust was mostly burnt. I'm posting a picture to show exactly how disappointing it was to see, especially having paid $23 for just the pizza itself. I was surprised considering the quality of their regular crust pizzas that their sicilian was so poorly executed and delivered. This place used to be live dramatic entertainment when you used to dine in. The old owner and wife were wack jobs that would yell at eachother in the middle of the dining room. One time they were fighting and turned the radio up so loud so we wouldn't here them fighting, the problem was in that they were fighting 10 feet away from us, and then started fighting about the radio being loud.....yeah...HOWEVER, things have changed and the new owners seem to be normal type people. The brick oven pizza is really good, the sandwiches are good and the people working there are nice. If you are dining in they give you this warm fresh bread with this garlic oil, it's really tasty. Some negatives: Sometimes the chicken can be stringy and bland tasting. Sometimes the person working the dining room don't really seem to pay attention to you and sometimes the food takes a while to come out. I've definitely waited 45 mins- 1 hour for food before. I ordered a large custom pizza today with Arugula salad through Slice app. The delivery time was indicated 44min - 55min. They are 0.5 miles away from me. A 5 minutes after I placed an order, I received a message indicating the delivery time is 90 minutes. When I called to the restaurant to ask about the discrepancy, the woman told me in quite a rude manner if I have seen that there is rain outside? Also she said she has no idea what the app has promised to me in terms of the delivery time. I asked her if she could please expedite the process to be at least within the hour as I have a small child to feed. An hour later the pizza was delivered but not the salad. I found it to be ridiculous and called back. Same woman told me in the rudely manner that they are busy and this is all my fault because they rushed me my pizza!! Not a word of apology! I was pretty shocked from the attitude and asked to speak with a manager who was yelling at me that this is my fault they didn't deliver the salad, they are busy and I should have ordered way, way earlier if I want to feed my child! Seriously??! What's wrong with you people?! You complain you're too busy, so stop taking orders! Close your restaurant if you don't know how to run it and how to respect customers who brings you money and from whom you feed.
