What a find, just passing through on the way to a long awaited family reunion. Generous helpings and the "very BEST" was our waitress, Holly O. Fast, efficient and genuinely friendly. Plus she took multiple table's orders and kept them all in her head (no written tickets.). She is a gem and should get a raise if she hasn't gotten one recently. Pros We found the food at Rusty's to be plentiful with servings large enough for two meals. The service was very prompt and friendly, earning a good tip in appreciation. Cons My ribeye steak was just average with a lot more gristle than is normal. NONE of the staff was wearing any masks or gloves when serving our food. We know this is a 'mask highly recommended' area of Utah, but it still made us very uncomfortable with the number of people the staff are in contact with and serve daily. The table was not overly clean and a used sucker stick was left on the table from the prior guests. We had reservations to this well regarded restaurant outside of Cedar city. When we arrived we noticed that no staff was wearing masks just in the lobby we're not wearing masks and tables were not distant at all. We made the choice to leave and not eat at an unsafe location. read more

My family and I were delighted by the food and ambiance here. Everyone had a salad which was shocking because some of us are not big salad eaters and it was delicious I had the bbq platter which consisted of brisket ribs and chicken leg and thigh with corn and potato logs and every bit of it was delicious. Wife had the pasta with shrimp and my daughter pasta with chicken son had a rib eye and everyone cleared their plates no left overs even our 14 month old loved the food will definitely be making this place a tradition while my daughter is away at college in Cedar. read more

Rusty's is fine. It's a short and pleasant drive up the canyon from Cedar City, which actually enhances its appeal. You get the pleasant illusion of taking a little journey, although it's a whopping 2 whole miles . Once inside, you may or may not get a pleasant illusion of being in a rustic lodge, depending on how you feel about an abundance of knotty pine and giant dead animals nailed to the walls. However, since you're probably here to eat meat, there's no sense in pretending to be squeamish about the slaughter of other species now. Service was very friendly and welcoming. I guess they're only mean to buffalo. We started with a Tumbleweed, which was a far more clever name for the Bloomin' onion they serve at the Outback. Other than that, they were identical: tasty if oversalted, hot and crispy and tender on the outside edges, less so the further in you get, so towards the middle the batter is basically raw and so is the onion. No biggie- by then you're out of dipping sauce anyway and ready for the pretty good salad and sourdough bread. Ribs are falling-off-the-bone tender, and the coconut shrimp were large and tasty, although the batter was a little thicker and heavier than it needed to be. The vegetable side was a mix of carrots, broccoli, and mushrooms- all of which were clearly prepared from fresh, not frozen. I also like that they have baked sweet potatoes as an option. (I see someone commented that theirs was dry. How can this be? Have they not heard of the miraculous re-constituting qualities of a glob or two of butter)? On the down side: they served cocktail sauce with the coconut shrimp, which was a disappointment.. That dish cries out for a sweet, tangy fruit-based sauce. Also, BG decided not to order filet based on the information that they had no bearnaise sauce. I realize this establishment is geared to the more casual diner, but bearnaise is a pretty standard offering and probably should be available since their steak choices were somewhat pricey. Scampi was nice and garlicky but the shrimp were small and overcooked, and the pasta was swimming in too much butter. Did I just say that? Guess even I can reach a point of grease overload. Anyway, most of the food is pretty tasty. They need to get some bearnaise up in there. The guys on the walls deserve it. read more

as other reviews say, there isn't much choice out in Cedar City. This was recommended to us by our hotel (which is next door to a Sizzler - bleh)... we drove to find it and it was about 2 miles out of town. When you first walk in the first thing you notice is the giant stag and mountain goat on the side of the room mounted the wall. It was sort of funny... The atmosphere was quaint and was good family setting. Lots of space for tables and the main dining room has more GIANT elks and deers mounted to the walls and a chandelier made out of antlers (cute). I felt like they were sort of staring at us - ha! OK, the food... We both had the petite fillet and it was delicious. Medium rare, the way I like it and absolutely not a second overcooked. We also had the rib combo which was ok. The service was great and friendly and overall this was a good place to eat after a long drive. I'd definitely recommending this place and visit again. read more

Do yourself a favor if you are in Cedar City - EAT AT RUSTY'S!! True, there aren't a lot of restaurants to choose from, and we were only there for a few days, but trust me, even if you only have one night, this is the place to go to. I had the skirt steak which was cooked perfectly. The salad ahead of time was also wonderful, simple, but wonderful. Hubby had the filet and coconut shrimp, which he also liked. His filet was cooked to his liking and he said the shrimp were very good, and not overcooked (which he says happens often with coconut shrimp - go figure). The service was truly exceptional. Donna D. was our server, and she was friendly, funny and informative. She took great care of us. They also run Milt's, which we tried as well. In Cedar City, chances are that you will see ads for this restaurant in every local magazine and all around the Utah Shakespearean Festival. It's not that bad! Judging by the healthy crowd that had already been seated when Mom and I walked into the building only 35 minutes after Rusty's had opened, a lot of people had the same idea. Rusty's is located about five minutes outside of Cedar City right off a road that cuts in between two small mountains. It's an easy way to escape the city proper and feel like you're in the middle of nowhere without actually being far away from the city at all. The atmosphere inside is decent as well...you sit in what is essentially a faux log cabin under the view of MANY taxidermied heads of various animals. When we ordered our meals, Mom originally wanted to order the 8 Oz. Flat Iron Steak because she wasn't too hungry, but the served informed us that they were out of the flat iron steaks, so she ordered the 12 Oz. Ranch House Ribeye ($22) instead. I ordered the Southwest Style Chicken ($12). The bread and butter the waitress brought out was delicious, although the salads were nothing to write home about...neither good nor bad. As for the main dishes, the ribeye was pretty good. The southwest style chicken was pretty juicy and had what seemed to be BBQ sauce with chunks of corn and a few beans here and there on top of it. It was decent, although the fries that came with it were the best part. You could tell that they were either cut fresh from a potato right before they were brought out to us or earlier that day...AND they had a delicious seasoning covering them as well. I've eaten here twice and both times I've been underwhelmed. The food is expensive and mediocre at best. The last meal I had was a 12 oz ribeye for $25. Dining in Cedar is grim. We love the Shakespeare festival but struggle to find good meal. Rusty's is a regular stop for us. The steaks are solid (if not exceptional) and are prepared properly. Think Costco steaks to give you the idea. The ribs are fair, stay away from the fish. They have a wine list, limited and all low end, but in Cedar just having a wine list is a plus. The sides are all simple and usually overlooked. The prices are reasonable, the service is friendly, and it is 10 minutes from the festival. read more

So, when you are out on an old road headed out of Cedar City, UT you don't expect much food wise, right? Well, if you think that and don't stop and give Rusty's a try you will be missing some pretty good food. Rusty's doesn't have the best steak I have ever eaten, but it was flavorful, juicy and had the right amount of sear on it. The baked potato and salad were well worth it as we'll, and the veggies, even though they did not look appealing at all, tasted very good. The one thing I didn't like at all was the bread. It tasted like it was just a bit on the stale side and I could only eat one piece. All the staff was very helpful. We were seated right away and taken care of from beginning to end. Amazing food here. Wonderfully delightful staff too. We parked in the wrong spot and a gentleman came out to tell us where to park. Once inside it's a western atmosphere which is fitting for the location and menu. The food was delicious. Filet mignon was spectacular. The salad was nice and the BABA black sheep lager paired well with this dish. Our waitress was wonderful and knows children. If your ever in beautiful Cedar City you have to stop here. My nephew and I traveled cross-country from Detroit to San Diego to retrieve a car for him to have in SD. Night #3 was spent in Cedar City, UT. After we checked in, we started to look for good barbecue. Thankfully, we didn't have to look far. Based on Yelp reviews we headed to Rustys. We were not disappointed--thanks fellow Yelpers. We were quickly seated by a very pleasant hostess. Holly was an outstanding server and guided us through her recommendations. We started with the potato skin boats. These were among the best we have ever had. We both ordered the 1/2 order of baby back ribs. Holly had me at her recommendation when she told me their ribs were coated in Sweet Baby Ray's--our favorite sauce! The entree also came with generous salads, outstanding sourdough bread, potato, and very good string beans. The ribs were finger-licking good. We knew it was okay to do so in Utah when Holly brought over a container of wet naps. The decor was slightly offputting--walls covered with dead wildlife heads and the tables and chairs were from the 70s. All in all, it was a great place for dinner that I recommend with no hesitation. read more

The restaurant is nestled in a lovely wooded area. The decor of the restaurant is rustic, like a hunter's lodge. We were seated promptly on a Saturday evening (note: the restaurant is closed on Sunday - we're in UTAH). The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Bummer - it was around 7:30p when we arrived at the dark restaurant after being on a lonely road for a few minutes and it was closed, despite a sign on front saying it's hours were from 5pm to close everyday. Ended up at a great new BBQ place it town, so it worked out. We called the next day around 7pm and found that they were open (Tuesday) and we headed out there. Not very busy. Deer head decor. Had the steak and shrimp combos - excellent. Steak was perfectly cooked and tender. Price was on par for a steakhouse (thus, not cheap). Friendly wait staff with efficient service (granted, they were not packed). If traveling in the off-season, mid-week, call ahead.
