This place is great for vegetarians. So many variations of veggies. But don't let that stop you from coming if you eat meat because they have plates to satisfy you as well! I had such a good veggie sandwich here!! It felt so light yet filling, and it didn't leave me feeling overly full after finishing my plate. My boyfriend has gotten one of their salads and it came in a HUGE bowl. It must have been delicious because he ate the whole thing, with an extra side of dressing. I have a natural aversion to things spelled with a "z" at the end. Same with things spelled with a "k" instead of a "c." Like pretty much every metal band known to man. So, when I heard the name name "Rutabegorz" for the first time, I'm thinking obnoxious 909ers, Mountain Dew, and Korn. This place kouldn't be further from that, though. Who know why they got hoodwinked into thinking that ending your business name with a "z" waz a good idea, but that's pretty much the only thing they got wrong. Perfectly located in Old Towne Orange, absolutely splendid patio, and a menu that goes on for days. I think I could eat here everyday for a year and still not have tried everything on that massive menu. I know, I know, you're thinking "Ugh, massive menu. Like Shorehouse where it's page after page of greasy crap." Hey, stop jumping to conclusions. Sheesh. No, the menu is filled to the brim with healthy options for sandwiches, salads, and wraps. My WW point tracker will be happy today. I opted for turkey sandwich with cranberry, cream cheese, and walnutz. I know, right? Walnutz? In a sandwich? It was superb. Pair that with a giant glass of tropical tea, and a glorious spring day, and I'm a happy kamper. Hmmm, what do I want for lunch today? Maybe a sandwich? Maybe a salad? Maybe a wrap? Maybe some homemade soup? Well, whatever I may be craving on any particular day, Rutabegorz will have me covered because this place has it all. And what ever I do order, I always make sure I order it with a side of their famous candied walnuts. Those tasty little things make any meal taste better. Rutabegorz, which is located in Old Town Orange, is a pretty big restaurant that was actually a house before it was converted into a restaurant. Ruta has many tables indoors and out. Their outdoor patio is where I prefer to sit because it is littered with plants, flowers and big umbrellas that keep you shaded from the warm sun. This place is usually always packed full of students from the nearby university. This is by far my favorite place to eat lunch when I'm working in the area. In fact, this is one of my favorite lunch spots of all time. I have eaten lunch here at least ten times in the past few months. I have tried many things on their menu. Their menu consists of many verities of sandwiches, salads, wraps, soups, dinner entrees, desserts, shakes and more. They also have many great monthly specials. They also offer homemade dip specials that change monthly that only cost forty cents per order. These forty cent dips are served with lots of tortilla chips. So far the dips I have tried have been their jalapeño cream cheese dip, chipotle carrot dip and a spicy spinach and cheese dip. All three dips were great but my favorite was the chipotle carrot. Here I will list some of the food I have ordered and a brief description of them Garlic Chicken Wrap- This gigantic wrap is made with a whole wheat tortilla and is stuffed with garlic chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, feta cheese and balsamic dressing. I also added their candied walnuts to my wrap. Garlic Chicken Salad- This HUGE salad is defiantly my favorite salad I have ever had. It is made with fresh lettuce, garlic chicken, avocados, crunchy noodles, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, candied walnuts and feta cheese. They have at least ten different types of salad dressings on their menu but the one I always get is their Thai peanut. It is so delicious. Strawberry Chicken Sandwich- This tasty sandwich is only available during strawberry season. They take squaw bread and fill it with fresh, plump pieces of strawberries, chunks of chicken, lettuce, avocado, feta cheese and a light coat of mayo. I also added candied walnuts to this sandwich. Mexican Crepes- Two crepes filled with steak, beans, rice and sour cream and topped with cheese and red sauce. I have also tried many other things on their menu that were equally amazing as the things I listed above but the reason I listed these items is because I actually have pictures of them. For dessert I have tried many of their awesome sweet treats. Here is a quick list of my favorite things Almond Mocha Shake- This shake is made with both vanilla and chocolate ice cream, almond syrup, coffee and whipped cream. Peanut Butter Brownie- Big, moist chocolate brownie filled with their candied walnuts and topped with creamy peanut butter and pieces of Reese's PB cups. Lone Ranger Cookie- This is the king of cookies. This crunchy bad boy is made with corn flakes, walnuts and coconut shavings. I love this cookie. The prices and service here are great. Every waitress that has waited on me here has been super friendly and attentive. Even if Ruta is jammed packed it has never taken more than ten minutes to receive my food. Almost everything on their menu is under ten bucks, which is awesome. If you're ever in the city of Orange and are looking for a place to have lunch then look no further that Rutabegorz. I feel like Rutabegorz is confused. From the outside, they appear to be hippy-esque. But on the inside, they look like an old irish home threw up some hippy stuff. It was bizarre. And it felt dirty. I like their menu. It's printed on some cheap newsprint paper and bound like a small book. It's a bit overwhelming though. We decided on the italiano salad and the italiano wrap to split and share. Both items were just OK for me. The salad comes in a bowl that resembles a trough. IDK about you, but when I am eating healthy I'd really prefer not to feel like a horse. We ordered our food, I stared into my sexy boyfriends eyes, and out came our food. Ummmm, WTH? How the hell could they make that food so fast. I understand there really isn't any "cooking" involved ... but wholly shit that food came out with the quickness. Service was fine. But really the inside decor just made me feel weird. ::::Laying down on couch, handing you a pad and pencil::::: I have this friend. Don't get me wrong, she's a great friend, but sometimes I think, why can't she just eat a hot dog? I suppose every meatan and vegan friendship has this one issue. When I found Rutabegorz on Yelp, I felt what Brandi Chastain must have felt when she ripped of her jersey and flashed her sports top... just joy. I thought parking was going to be a struggle but at the next corner is a public lot; free parking for 3 hours. Ruta also has a big sign posted telling of the fines and tickets that get handed out to those who don't park well. At the walkway entrance they also have a small menu which includes prices so you know what you are in for. The "get out" moment was when we both decided to get the falafel plate (@$9.) So you know, Rutabegorz has a nice amount of vegan choices. Knowing that they go out of their way to put a good selection together, I supposed that these would be made better than places that have one or two and it's instant mix foods. :::Propping my head on my hand::: I done thought wrong. The falafel was dry and from a mix. I can't say much for the hummus or the other garden dressing. The cucumbers were fresh but the carrots were those "baby carrot" anomalies that don't have much flavor. So, for falafel, Shwarma King (LB) or Daphne's (Redondo Beach) get my votes and Rutabegoryz gets a "never again" for falafel. Well, back to the feeling. I left feeling like I had crawled through a damp soccer field to retrieve my jersey and head back to the showers. Ruta is cute, the tables are home-y, service was nice, but that couldn't carry going out of the way to find vegan food. So I'll be back searching Yelp for vegan in Orange. I cannot begin to tell you how terrible my restaurant experience was here. I came here about a week ago or so, and I came here for breakfast. I ordered a basic fruit parfait with chia. It looked delicious when the waitress placed it on my table. But something seemed to be moving in my food. I looked closer. And there was BUGS in my Food! I was so disgusted. I gave the waitress back the food and let her know and she apologized.The waitress came back from taking the food and said that the manager would like to apologize for the inconvenience and that that I could order anything I wanted as complementary. Where do you eat out when Stve W. is on a diet? At first, I thought I'd take him to the food court at Freshia because we both love to eat Asian cuisine, but he eats so much fish anyway, he should have grown a set of .gills by now. I needed to think of a healthy yet quick lunch that I could eat, too, so, to me, the best of the best in that category would be Rutabegorz. We got there right at 11AM when they opened on Saturday, so we had absolutely the best experience this home-turned-restaurant could offer. We were both able to choose menu items suitable for each of our special dietary needs, the service was great, and the food was fresh and good tasting. You really can't get much better than that. I had the soup and half sandwich (eggtastic with the chicken rice soup) and Stve ordered their bowl of chili and caesar salad. Stve was so impressed with the place, he even performed his very first 'check-in' on Yelp's app for Android. I'm so proud of him... he's growing up so fast. read more

Rutabegorz is like that comfy sofa you have that's got a few miles on it but still looks ok but man it feels so good. I like the decor you feel your at your aunt's house and about to get some comfort food. I started out with a cup of their pumpkin soup. The soup was 5 freaking stars, absolutely perfect. I will come back just for the soups if all the soups are cooked this way. I had the Thai wrap which was okay, nothing super special and I topped it off with a nice cold Spaten. My wife had the turkey salad which came in a bowl that a horse could eat out of. She said it was good dressing and all. This goes under comfort food 101. Nice portions, clean, healthy food. This place is so corny and cute and it puts all my misgivings about "health food" at ease. Rutabegorz is such a throw-back from the good ol' late hippy days...you know, the kind of lifestyle your parents were probably living in the 70's and 80's if, like me, you're a kid that grew up in that time. Sprouts on your sandwiches. Homemade soups. Squaw bread. Clever vegetarian dishes. It was kind of obnoxious and we forgot about eating this way for a really long time (um...the '90's, I'm looking at you!) but now we're kind of coming back to that lifestyle again with all the vegan and gluten-free trends we're experiencing and Rutabegorz seems to be finding itself in a kind of health-nut renaissance. And I'm on board with that. What I really like about Rutabegorz is that it's not pretentious and there's plenty for folks to eat who aren't necessarily health nuts...i.e, you can trick someone who's suspicious of veggie options into having some chili or a yummy sandwich or a burrito, can't you?! There's meat and cheese and salad dressings and you know, NORMAL ingredients to their dishes...it's not intimidating like Veggie Grill or other places like that. I also really love the locations that Rutabegorz restaurants are in. I've been to both the one in the Orange Circle and in downtown Tustin and both are super cute...all the locations are in little vintage houses or store fronts and have outside dining patios that are great for lunch. Also, the décor is super homey...little knick-knacks and photos and tea cozies and the like. Also, I love the fact that the location in Orange is supposed to be haunted...YES! : ) The menu at Rutabegorz is surprisingly extensive...tons of sandwiches, soups, salads and Tex-Mex mash-ups. They also always have a monthly special that's usually $1 or under. It's usually some kind of dip or little appetizer...we had white bean humus and pita last time for 44 cents and it was delish! Limit one special per person, so even though we were sharing, we could've gotten seconds! Everything is super fresh and again, simple and homey...tastes like something your mom would make you for lunch. I love their squaw bread for sandwiches and I usually end up getting their half soup and half sandwich combo. Their Cocky Leekie soup and black bean chili are both excellent and their burritos are huge! Oh yeah, and all of their dishes have quirky little names for them like "The Chicken that Kissed the Walnut" chicken salad. Too cute. Their salads are served in ginormous mis-matched Pyrex bowls in different colors and are totally satisfying for a meal. Try their iced tea as well...fresh and not sweetened. I ordered a to go order here last night while I was forever waiting across the street to get my taxes done. I text the BF and asked him to look on their website for what he wanted. We both ended up with the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and the cream of mushroom soup. The enchiladas were OK. I mean I was hungry it was about 9:45 by the time we finally ate. But in all honesty the chicken should of been shredded up a bit not large pieces of chicken cut into cubes. Whatever it was tasty aside of the rather large pieces of chicken. The portions were good. I didn't finish mine. I will say though that I was not a fan of the beans that came with our entree. Any-hoot.. I still wish that they would be open for Sunday brunch. I think if i come back I will get the veggie enchiladas instead... 4 stars though because they were super nice, food was good just could of been better. After first discovering Rutabegorz in Fullerton a few years ago, I was left with a good impression. Good, wholesome food, a wide selection, and as "crunchy" as a restaurant can get outside of Berkeley. However, for some reason, my recent visit to their Orange location changed all that. Service is pretty fast and friendly. You can either sit inside and feel as if you're seated in someone's house with 20 strangers, or sit outside and do some people watching. The bowl of corn chowder was HUGE. It was so thick and unappetizing looking, that it reminded me of soup in a can that hadn't had water added to it yet. It tasted ok. I also had the vegetarian sandwich, which was an open-faced, hot sandwich with assorted veggies on top of squaw bread, topped with cheese. The problem is they used veggies with both a high water content (zucchini) and veggies that softens drastically if cooked too long (cauliflower). So all of the bread in the sandwich was soggy from the vegetables. The melted cheese topping added nothing to the dish. David had the chicken tortilla soup, which tasted fine, just too much celery in the soup. He also had a really good thai wrap, with rice, shrimp lettuce, and peanuts in a whole wheat tortilla wrap. Dunked in the accompanying peanut sauce, this wrap was delish. Oh, and be prepared to hear all kinds of interesting things from your neighboring diners. Since Chapman University is a few blocks away, there will be plenty of students dining here, talking about the most random subjects. Cute and charming just like the Fullerton and Tustin locations! Parking is a little more crowded, due to the neighboring Chapman college, but I still managed to find a spot almost directly in front of the restaurant. They have different dip specials at all of their locations, but when I came here, they only had a random pumpkin coffee on special. The food is consistently yummy here, as I got the southwest quinoa bowl and it was delightfully flavorful and healthy. My family ordered some of their salads and as always, they came served in gigantic bowls! Our waitress was friendly, although a bit in our face and kept hovering over my nephews. I love all Rutabegorz locations and this one is no exception - I especially like the huge outdoor patio area they have, which is perfect for people watching and enjoying a sunny SoCal day!!! read more

I am normally pretty hesitant when it comes to eating near the Orange Circle... but I was pretty impressed with Rutabegorz! I will say, I do think that it is slightly overpriced and their menu is a bit too big, but overall quality and atmosphere are great! They have great outdoor seating that is fun and quaint, perfect for warm evenings. But man.. that menu was like reading a textbook and for someone who has decision making issues like me, it took way too long to figure out what to get. I appreciate that they provide options, but there is a lot going on. I ended up getting a bowl ( i can't remember the name) that had rice, quinoa, black beans, chicken, tomatoes, corn... with a few chips and salsa on the side. It tasted great! I enjoyed it. And it was a decent serving size. But it was $12, and I feel like I could have gotten the same thing at Chipotle for 7 bucks. BUT for the atmosphere it was worth it. From what I could see, salads were HUGE. My friend got a pot dinner with chicken and vegetables and rice, and it also was so massive. So they don't skimp on the portions. This location is better than the others because it's in a cool, cute little house...their wraps (falafel wrap is very good) and salads are pretty good...but how hard is it to screw that up? Most of the items could easily be made with a quick trip to Trader Joe's and a few minutes in the kitchen. Quick & Dirty: Naturally good food without being overly gussied up. Service is friendly and warm. Bummer that it's closed Sunday's though. Long & Fresh: Rutabegorz is one of those places that has good food, period. They don't use pre-made anything and it's as fresh as you're going to find. It is all prepared on the spot and is full of flavor. Things taste as they should and it is simply made, nothing over the top. No lipstick on a pig here. I've been here a couple of times and both occasions had the hummus which is really tasty. I also had their Mexican Caesar salad which is much better than El Torito's. It didn't taste as if it were thrown together but made special just for me. Most recently I had what I think was call the "Big Pot" or "Large Pot" or something like that. It consisted of veggies in a cheese sauce (all served in a pot they bring to the table) with a plate of rice and squaw bread. Oh man was this delicious!!! It was a cool fall evening and we sat on their patio and boy did this hit the spot! My buddy had their Black Bean Chili (they have two kinds) and it was good too. A Chili Burrito was on the menu too which I was very close to ordering. One of the nice things about this place is that they offer vegetarian dishes and a lot of them. Even though I love to eat animals it's nice to take a break and just enjoy some good veggie dishes that have sustenance! Their desserts looked good but I had to pass this time. Overall, a pretty crappy experience. Came for a quick evening meal. Within the first 10 minutes, we had 4 different servers ask us if we were ready. We ordered an appetizer, some drinks, and two dinner meals. My friend's margarita was way too sour, no salt on the rim, and tasted like it had no alcohol. My chicken broccoli crepe was a soup bowl of soggy cheese, broccoli, and chicken. I couldn't taste or see the two crepes that we're supposedly in there. The appetizer never came. We asked about the appetizer and told our server we no longer wanted it. The worst part was trying to pay. Everyone in the restaurant was cleaning up to close, this was about 30min before closing. Even though we were hoping to order dessert, we gave up. I kept trying to make eye contact with bus boys and servers to try and pay but as soon as I caught their eye, they would quickly look away. After 20 minutes we finally got our check, which still had the appetizer we canceled... Again, I tried to catch someone to take the item off of our bill but had to walk into the kitchen (we could hear our server in there, laughing for most of our visit) and got a different server to remove the item. Because he's seen the light, we've eaten at this place a few times in the past 6 months (if it were closer, it would be more) and I have to bump them up a star because they finally found a way to get your food out in less than half an hour, something the Fullerton one would be wise to learn as well. They have the best Cheesecake I've ever had in my life! Its not heavy at all! Its creamy and light. You can also get it with berry sauce which I recommend! I've never had a bad meal here and always have a hard time deciding what I want because everything is so good! My favorites are the Veggie Twocos, The Chili Burrito and Black Bean Burrito, The Walnut that Kissed the Chicken sandwich and Melted Cheese sandwich (they have the best squaw bread!). Best damn salad I have ever had in my life. Simple little Summer Salad. Who would have thought could be so delicious. So the salad comes in a ginormous bowl. The type of bowls that you use to mix ingredients in the kitchen. It is filled to the brim with fresh veggies, turkey, walnuts, tangerines, crumbled blue cheese...and the dressing...WOW My mouth is watering as i think about it. Its a balsamic dressing....unlike any other salad dressing I have ever had. I have also tried the garlic chicken wrap which is to die for as well. Oh and! They have these $1 specials every day. I felt like I just went to someone's house instead of going to an actual restaurant. It felt like an Italian Grandma's house because the inside decor was very quaint and there were grapes hanging on some walls along with some other old looking antiques and wooden tables. Anyhow, it was my first time here and I came with a friend for lunch around 12:30. We had the choice of sitting inside or outside but since the outside was full, we opted to seat in. We got our menus immediately and our server was very friendly. First thing up was our drinks and I ordered an apple cider for $3 and my friend ordered an Arnold Palmer. The drinks come out in a huge glass that probably would never have to be refilled. Next up on the agenda was ordering our meal and this is where I docked a star because their menu was so large that it was a bit overwhelming and I felt confused as a first timer...not sure what to order. I'm a fan of simplicity and quality. I didn't mind at first but when I asked my server what she'd recommend, she wasn't of much help. She just said that everything was good so she left me in the same state as when I asked her for help. After quite a long time of indecisiveness, I just sort of closed my eyes and picked something which turned out to be chicken cordon bleu crepes. Lucky for me it tasted pretty good. It felt like I just asked my mom or dad to cook something up for me and they made it fresh. The presentation wasn't all too great but the taste was wonderful. My friend ordered a garlic chicken sandwich and a monster cooking for dessert. She only finished half her sandwich because it was quite large. On a side note, it was the first time I ever had squaw bread and I love it! Its texture and taste is unlike any bread I've had before. Overall, the service was splendid minus the unhelpful recommendation. They were very friendly and generous. The food tasted delicious and I feel the only area they could upgrade would be presentation. All in all, I loved it here and would love to come back. I LOVE RUTABEGORZ! I really wish there was one in Long Beach--I would eat there all the time. The salads are fabulous (there's a million to choose from) and they come in enormous troughs. If you want to save some for later, though, put some aside without any dressing as the dressed salads don't last much longer than a few hours. Their hummus plate is also quite delicious. And they serve Spaten (one of my favorite beers). (The Orange location is the only one that doesn't serve hard alcohol, but they do have wine and beer.) I also love the Orange location because the restaurant itself is in an old Craftsman house with stained-glass windows and beautiful chandeliers--it's just gorgeous. The only drawback is that they are closed on Sundays, which I think is ludicrous because Sundays are a huge dining-out day. But hey, it's their money, not mine. read more

It's really homey, relaxing, and I know how much you love downtown Orange, we'd have such a great time going there and I know you love salads, they have a really great menu and it's not expensive at all. Yeah definitely kinda dig this place. And, I'm not even gonna mention the weird mix of clientele here....because...I guess that'd make "me" weird? OK, I'm a weirdo. I know it. I felt like I was dining at a friend's g-ma's house. Nice little old grandmas run this place and are so friendly and patient . The diner is actually a house, right smack in the middle of Old Towne Orange, by the circle and Chapman University. I almost walked right by it without knowing it. Good variety of food with plenty of healthy and vegetarian options. Salads, soups, sammiches, wraps, burritos, pasta, coffee, smoothies.... I was supposed to order something light but was enticed by their Seafood Enchiladas. OMG it was huge (that's what she said) and came smothered in shrimp and cheese with rice and beans on the side. I couldn't finish it all and had my friend help me out after he was done with his shrimp pita sammich. Total for 2 entrees and a tropical iced tea with tax and tip ~$29. Overall, I thought the meal was ok. Food wasn't out of this world amazing, but the service was nice and the atmosphere was casual and cozy. But I do enjoy the extensive menu because I like to have my options which is why I'm a fan and will recommend this place to my vegetarian buddies! read more

There is a lot of health claims and odd charm to the place. One of a few locations,this particular Rutabegorz is in a house smack dab in between Chapman University and Orange Circle. They serve cleaner versions of American diner food. When you walk in you'll notice your in a house, a very cool one at that . The decor is well just old looking. There isn't much light in unless you sit by the windows. Tables are close to each other. I know they are tying to maximize space but dang I heard a long/loud conversation from the people next to me. Food: Garlic chicken on french roll was pretty good, but steep at a price of $10 for just a sandwich? The roll was buttery and the chicken isn't dry .Also , there is some nice chunks of avacados....yumm avocados. But if your going to throw ranch and butter on food I don't think coming here will make a big difference in comparison to a cheaper/unhealthier diner. Service: It's like Communism up in here. Everyone was my waiter.There wasn't a clear distinction to whom our server was. I personally don't like that.... credit card was sitting at the table a while longer and I would have liked. read more

This place is amazing! Salads are great and huge portions. The orange location has a wonderful outdoor patio that is cute and old town looking. Gives me a feel like the olden days where people sit on their porches and drink lemonade. :) I love their garlic chicken salad and all their salad specials are great esp if you're on a healthy diet and trying to get a good vegan fix (if you're vegan of course) and if you're not - there's always something special for you. Price is worth the portions - $10 for a big salad bowl and LOTS of deliciously packed goodies - dried fruits, nuts, chicken - they def do not lack in making sure your salad tastes amazing and full of flavor. Come hungry - staff is SUPER friendly and great atmosphere! Highly recommended! P.S. - there's a small entrance by the side for only Ruta's diners so street parking or a secret back parking. read more

I grew up loving Ruta's in Tustin. I've gone to the Fullerton location a few times too. But for some reason, I never made it to the Orange location. The parking is hard being the part of town this is in. The location is cool since its a very old house. It feels homey. Almost always at Ruta's I order the 1/2 sandwich & soup combo. I've never had the chili until today and I was impressed! Excellent! The big downside of the day was that in Tustin when you order this combo you get a pasta salad and a garden salad with the plate. In Orange they skipped that part and put a tiny side of coleslaw instead. When I asked the waitress about it they said they are trying something new. Well, it was disappointing since we missed our pasta salad. All in all, I would go to Tustin Ruta's any day but this one isn't bad. read more

The menu at Rutabegorz is ridiculously extensive, from their appetizers to wraps, two full pages of salads, sandwiches, soups and chili, and bowls with brown rice, quinoa, and all things healthy. They have vegan, vegetarian, and meat choices. I've come here for a sandwich on squaw and wasn't impressed then. The second time I came, I got their Cobb salad and wasn't impressed because they used baby corn; however, my companions had meals that looked pretty good (chili with grilled cheese, a Southwest bowl). The last time was my first time to the Orange location - I have been to every location now, and it was my favorite. It's located near Bruxie's, a few cute houses down. It was 8pm on a Monday so there was no one else there. The staff was kind and service was really quick. Every sandwich has a salad counterpart. I picked the turkey, fig, and goat cheese wrap, simple and AMAZING. BEST WRAP EVER. The wrap was served with pasta salad, a pickle, and a slice of melon. I ate half and had the other half as leftovers for the next day. My companion chose a 1/2 egg salad sandwich with a giant bowl of vegan chili. They gave him extra cheese without charging. read more

I had read about the garlic chicken (salad) and was therefore very excited. Maybe my excitement built it up, because when I got my garlic chicken sandwich, it didn't taste as awesome as I'd expect it to be. Sure, I ordered the sandwich and not the famous salad, but shouldn't the chicken be the same? The chicken was served on a French roll with a few leaves of lettuce and a thin slice of tomato. The sandwich, cut in half, was served with a cup of vinaigrette and a side of pickle and a small plastic cup of pasta. The few bites of the pasta were good, noting small chunks of cheese (feta I think). The pickle was crisp, but nothing you can't find in a store bought jar. The chicken was dry and not moist. And even when I added the vinaigrette to the sandwich, it tasted much better but still tasted dry. I had to wash each bite down with my Arnold Palmer (which was the best thing about my order). For the price ($9.25), I was expecting an awesome sandwich that blew my taste buds away. But now I know that at least half the price goes to the cottage like atmosphere and at least a quarter for the proximity to the Circle of Orange and Chapman University. But to be fair, maybe I just ordered the wrong item on the cooks bad day (day before taxes, hmmm). The menu is very extensive and many of the items look really good (i.e. The walnut that kissed the chicken). I know Hazel gave rave reviews for the turkey sandwich with cranberries (which sounds really good) so maybe I'll give them another try. Note: If you are not a student, and don't have a parking permit, do not park on Palm Avenue. (Parking Fee: $54.50) Oh, and if you are looking for sandwich, try the "Heap" instead; my buddy got that and it looked really, really good (open faced sandwich smothered with cheese). read more

Avocado chicken salad smashed and mixed up was a winning meal. I also had the Thai wrap (a cold chicken wrap with sweet peanut sauce) which I wasn't a big fan of. Overall, Rutabegorz is a great spot when you're trying to be healthy. read more
