So their website is all about keeping it small to parties of 2 so that they can provide you a better experience vs serving a large party. So, I was expecting some 5 star caviar & champagne type service but sadly that was not the case - I'll get to that. I like how they sent me a reminder text the day before regarding the dress code. When we arrived, they had a sign as well on the window. It's honestly laughable because they do not enforce it amongst the patrons. I saw at least 3 people wearing baseball hats. I saw another guy wearing jogging pants. AND a gal whose jeans lost a fight with the lawnmower. We arrived a little earlier than our reservation and were seated right away at a booth near the bar. Our waitress Kelli was fantastic - let's get that right. She informed us that she was also a bartender, so another gal was also going to be helping her serve our table. I did not get her name but she was okay. I'll call her waitress No.2 They didn't have a drink menu but Kelli said if I told her what I liked, she would make me something. I wanted a sweet cocktail and she made me a watermelon martini. It wasn't as sweet as I would've liked, but it was refreshing. [Old Fashioned] Say it with me, an old fashioned should never be served with standard ice cubes. Never. It just watered down the drink. An ice ball or large ice cube would've been appropriate to keep the drink cool and melt slowwwwww. For a place like this, it was shocking and they can't say they ran out bc they'd only been open for an hour or so. We asked her what the popular items were. Kelli was great at explaining everything and was very enthusiastic about the food. We put in our order and that was the last time we saw her until she brought us the bill at the end. She was workin that bar for reals because it got BUSY! They need more Kelli's! None of the wait staff here wear masks. In a way, it was good because I could see their true facial expressions. With the exception of Kelli, no one here smiled, so it didn't make me feel welcomed. Waitress No.2 didn't check us on often, but checked on the booth behind us quite a bit. Like, we're her table too. [French Dip] - The portion size was good. The meat was tender but room temp/luke warm. Not sure if that's how a french dip is supposed to be. The fries were okay. They reminded me of In-n-out's fries 100% but I didn't say anything to my husband because I wanted to see if he noticed too. He tried them and sure enough, he said they were like In-n-Out. The horseradish came on the side. Good portion size and not too spicy, but just enough. I finally found a horseradish that I liked. [BBQ Ribs] - They were decent, fall off the bone. The sauce was on the heavy side though. Again, they were decent, but we've had better. [Apple Cobbler] - the debbie downer Our waitress No.2 told us they didn't have a dessert menu but had a verbal menu with 2 items. The apple cobbler spoke to me because I love apple pie. My primary love language is gift receiving, which means birthdays are of the utmost importance to me, whether it's my birthday or someone else's, I want them to feel special. I asked her if she could put a candle on it for my husband's birthday. she said sure. I saw a different waitress walk towards us with the candle lit on a plate, so in my mind I was like, oh that must be ours. Let's call her waitress No.3. As she was coming towards us, I had a view of her, my husband's back was to her. She went to the table behind my husband but quickly realized, the dessert wasn't for them. So she waved the flame w/her hand and walked the other way - I think to confirm which table she was actually going to. I watched as she made her way to our table, lit the candle, set it down, and walked away, all while looking like a pissed off mime. It was done in such a COLD manner. There was no, "Enjoy!", "here ya go", "happy Birthday", nada. zip. I'm so so glad my husband had his back to her, so he didn't have to endure witnessing the pissed off expression on her face as she came towards us. Who wants to see that??? Girl was mad about something but it should never be taken out on the customer. The cobbler itself tasted like something I'd get at my local Applebee's. Stopped by for a quick bite with half my friend group while the other half was wine tasting. Outdoor patio seating is so cozy! Looks like a great place to sip wine and lounge with friends. Food Broccolini: a bit overcooked, but seasoned well. My friends said that it was their first time trying broccolini, and that they liked it a lot, especially more than regular broccoli because it wasn't as "bushy." Hawaiian Steak: really good---sweet, salty, cooked perfectly medium rare. Everyone in my party thought this was the best dish. Traditional salad with caesar dressing: one friend said that the bacon was cooked so well, they didn't think dressing was needed because the bacon seasoning provided enough flavor for the entire salad. I felt like it was just a regular salad, nothing too special, but then again, I suppose that's why it's called "traditional." -- Drink White dessert wine: I don't think I saw dessert wines on the menu, but when I asked our server if they had any, she said there were 2 kinds. I chose the first one, took a sip, and immediately loved it. (How could I come to a restaurant in Napa and not have a glass of wine?) Overall, this place was a nice spot to stop by and grab a bite. It has been a long time since I have eaten at Rutherford Grill I remember that I loved their rotisserie chicken so I ordered it again. It did not disappoint, it was still really good. I loved the flavor and it was so juicy and tender. It was served with broccolini, it was very delicious, it had some butter and lemon and I just loved it. I also ordered their dessert, apple cobbler pie and it was served with big chunks of candied walnuts and vanilla bean ice cream. I wish I ordered another one because it was so good. The combination of all three in my mouth was heavenly. Forgot to mention earlier, we had ordered the spinach and artichoke dip, it was good, but the tortilla chips you get was not proportionate to the dip, you needed more chips, luckily our server gave us more once we finished the ones we got with the dish without asking. It was delicious and but nothing extraordinary about it. So glad that one of my go to places to eat in Napa is still around and it is still good. read more

I called the day before to make sure they had artichokes in season which they did. I drove 2 hours to eat their delicious artichokes, only to have it sent to my table burnt to a crisp. Whoever came up with this salad is flavor bomb king, hands down you can taste the freshness of all the ingredients with the homemade vinaigrette dressing mixed with the hint of lime. Unfortunately the item was discontinued, I hope they bring it back. Also if you enjoy seafood you want to try the grilled Ruby, red trout for your entree absolutely amazing nicely grilled to perfection topped with fried shrimp and white cream reduction sauce. And let me also add another favorite the cornbread bits delicious! and lastly dessert they have the best Oreo cookies and cream that sit inside of molten chocolate, just amazing. No wait at all! I have always loved the Hillstone chain. I was first introduced to Bandera's in LA and then again in Sacramento (when it was still open). Fell in love with the ribeye! When I moved to Sacramento, I went to R&D and just recently here, Rutherford Grill. Went here on a Saturday with a friend after doing a wine tasting. We started off with the wedge salad, something that was introduced to me by a dear friend a while ago. Salad was super fresh with tomatoes and yellow beets. Deviled eggs were yummy! I ordered the Hawaiian, which I loved. I am always down for a good ribeye cooked medium well and a glass of cabernet. My friend had the chicken, paired with delicious baby broccoli. We will be back! Everything is a must get. Go-to restaurant when we are in Napa/Sonoma area. Ribs are super tender, sauce is a bit too sweet but it's the barbecue vibe. I could eat the French dip in one sitting, truly prime rib, French roll is buttery and chewy and au jus is chef's kiss. The Hawaiian is a classic but not as unique as the other two. Just wow! My friends family has been coming to Rutherford grill for years and she always raves about it. We went wine tasting together and she insisted we eat at Rutherford's Grill. Very happy I finally went. Overall, it was incredibly delicious. We ate here on a weekday winter day and did not have to wait for a table. I imagine the wait is long on weekends. Don't know if they take reservations but it's worth checking. The booths feel old school, intimate, and so comfy with the lamp lights. There is a lovely bar section in the middle of that restaurant that is very diner style. The food is bomb! I had a burger and my friend had the ribs. They gave her extra ribs because the chef felt the ones served were too small. It was so much food. We ordered the corn bread but the waiter forgot to add them. Service was fine but it could have been a little better for the price. Will have to go back for the corn bread! I've heard that Mustard's Grill is really good too but I have yet to try it. We had a late lunch for our anniversary around 2:00pm on a Saturday afternoon. We were lucky to be able to be seated immediately. Staff and our waitress were friendly. We had the Rotisserie Chicken with broccolini and Prime Filet with broccolini. We were hoping for the pomme puree for our sides but it was available until 5:00pm. Nonetheless, they were still very good. They also seem to change menu often so check their menu before going. Came here during a trip to Napa with some girlfriends. It was recommended to the birthday girl in our party while planning the trip to Cali. The reservations process was kind of a hassle in that, we had to break our party of 5 up into a table of 2 with a reservation and then a separate one for the rest. We thought about going somewhere else the day of but she really wanted to try it. Surprisingly, when we got there, they sat us together. Not sure why we had to go through all that other prior, but oh well. Our waitress was great. Friendly but she wasn't able to answer some of the questions we had about the menu. Which - um, the menu wasn't that extensive - not a bad thing but considering how nice it looked inside, a little disappointing! We ordered the deviled eggs (very tasty and good) and the cornbread (meh) to start. The cornbread was brought to the table in a skillet and turned over onto a plate for us and guess what... the dang thing was cold. Enough said there. I ended up ordering the veggie burger with fries. It seemed simple enough and nothing else really appealed to me. One of my friends ordered the cheeseburger along with the cucumber salad. We ended up sharing our sides. The salad was good! When we walked into Rutherford Grill after wine tasting across the street this past weekend, I knew I had just stepped foot into a very familiar restaurant, even though I had never stepped foot inside this location. What I mean is, they are part of the Hillstone Group and if this sounds familiar then you will know exactly what you're getting yourself into when you dine at a Hillstone restaurant. Our party had a large booth towards the back of the restaurant. All of the Hillstones have very similar decor and lighting, which to say is dark all day long. Our waitress immediately greeted us and was very bubbly and friendly. Our group loves to order as much of the menu as possible and go family style. The standouts for me were(in no order): The Cornbread bites, the BBQ combination plate(rotisserie chicken, bbq pork ribs, coleslaw), and the French Fries. I barely was able to walk out there as I was just stuffed. Overall, Rutherford is solid and this will always be one of the options I consider when I'm in and around the area. read more

Honestly, I feel like sitting at the bar was what made our experience even that more enjoyable. The bartenders were FANTASTIC! Ashley and David really took care of us that afternoon. Not only did they provide the best entertainment (watching them whip us delicious cocktails at the bar), but they made some seriously amazing menu suggestions that were absolutely spot on. We brought a bottle of wine with us, so we decided to skip out on the cocktails that time. But they were still super attentive and poured up our glasses until our bottle was just about done. Speaking of bringing your own bottle, DO IT! The first bottle of wine is FREE CORKAGE. Yes, you heard me right. Pour it up, pour it up! Free corkage is hard to find in Napa Valley, and I was shocked to find that a restaurant of this caliber would do so. Definitely take advantage of this. We brought a Zinfandel from Rockpile Vineyards and it went perfectly with the bbq that we ordered! Now about this food... PHENOMENAL! Everything was delicious! I probably would have licked my plate clean had I not been in public. We ended up ordering the following: Iron Skillet Cornbread: Wowza! This cornbread was so damn yummy. It was buttery, crispy, and the jalapeños gave it a wonderful subtle spice. A must have appetizer. BBQ Combination: My friend really enjoyed this entree. Tender rotisserie chicken and bbq pork ribs served alongside their addicting coleslaw. My friend doesn't eat dark chicken meat (I know, right?), so she ended up giving me the dark chicken pieces. When I tell you that these suckers were super moist and juicy. I've never really been one to order a chicken entree when I go out to eat, but I would definitely order this here. BBQ Pork Ribs: The mother lode! Fell in love after the first bite and neva looked back. These ribs are bigger than your face. You better come hungry! Fall of the bone, tangy, juicy goodness! I could not finish the whole rack. I was really trying because they were so damn delish, but my tummy said no, no, noooo. It made for perfect leftovers the next day. And that COLESLAW! Maaan, what are they puttin' in that thang?! Coleslaw has never been my thing but the sweetness of theirs is just so refreshing. Absolutely love the flavor on this! The fries were skinny and crispy. 'Had lunch with a client today and as always, had a wonderful experience! Service staff are spot on from the greeting at the door to our servers! Ordered the smoked salmon appetizer which is AWWWWWesome to start! Our entree's consisted of the Caesar salad with shrimp added on and they Included corn mixed throughout which is an interesting, textural and flavorful spin from the norm! Second entree was the rotisserie chicken which is always "Nom, nom, nom!" and worth asking for extra linen napkins! Not sure why they put four large (and yummy) croutons in with the chicken vs. the greens (broccolini was my preferred choice as a side but note they offer several options as sides that are ALL worthy INCLUDING fries!). No deeeeeelish Oreo cookie Ice cream deee-zero today but had a coupla' Espresso's and as a very nice additional touch our server Katie (Top marks for Katie by the way!) brought out steamed cream for our espresso's vs. the cold (We're wimpy coffee drinkers I know!). It's always a tough decision when deciding upon an entree at "The Grill" (as us locals call it!) as the French Dip and rack o' ribs are always our "go-to's" but know that you can't go wrong with any choices and you can come back again or do the shared plate thing! We used to love this place. Our families have eaten here since it opened. Tonight's experience changed all of our feelings of love for this place. My mother in law called the restaurant earlier this week when having difficulty making online reservations. They told her the system won't allow reservations for more than 5 people. We needed 6. They told her to just make two reservations, one for 2 people and one for 4 people. They said they would add a note to seat us together. When we checked in tonight, they said they could take the party of four, and the party of two would be a few minutes. We were confused, but followed anyways. The booth they wanted to sit four of us at could easily fit all six. They said they would be sitting the other two at another table. I said can we just sit together at the booth, there was enough room for us. The waitress stated that if the other two sat with us, she would not be able to serve us. Apparently they cannot serve 6 people, news to us. The only thing we had been told was the reservation system didn't allow for more than 5 people. We were not told they can't serve more than 5 people at one table. My family and I used to live in Napa, we now live in Hawaii. We came back to Napa for a visit with our families. This dinner was supposed to be a family birthday celebration for our daughter. So not sitting all together was not an option. The hostess kept saying she understood, but they can only do parties of 5 max. This was not made clear on the phone when my mother in law called about the reservations. She still lives here and eats here all the time. This was truly a disappointing experience. They didn't even try to remedy it, just wanted to sit the other two at a table behind ours. My wife and I had an incredible dining experience at Rutherford Grill. To start, the grilled artichoke was the best I've ever had--perfectly charred and full of flavor. The petite cornbread bites were a delightful treat. My wife and I have been several times, throughout the years when in wine country and this is one of our regular stops to eat. It's located right next to the BV winery which is great because you can pick up a great bottle of wine from BV to have with your lunch or dinner right next door. The food here is always good.
