After 6 months of sheltering at home this is out very first restaurant experience which gave us some hope. The staff was great, everyone wore masks, tables cleaned throughly when guest left etc. I felt very comfortable having our late lunch here. Food was consistent as any Hillstone, Houston's, location. We enjoyed amazing deviled eggs, spinach dip and wedge salads, extra thousand island thank you very much. We shared their famous pork ribs and French Dip, all perfect and delicious. Those ribs, come on, perfection. Unfortunately our server was having a bad day. Our glasses were empty, while others were being fawned over. Food timing was excellent but required follow up for originally requested items, horseradish, silverware, and refills. Meanwhile the tables adjacent to us were bathed in attention and care. Once we were done with our entrees the check arrived, while the table next to us received hot towels. I guess we weren't worthy of hot towels even though we ate ribs and the table next to us had salads. Yes, I pay attention to the details. Will we go back sure. I have eaten here many times and it is usually one of my favorite restaurants in the Napa Valley, so I decided to treat myself and make the 45 minute drive to pick up food to go today. I got the chicken and rib combo $28.00 and the butternut squash enchilada $21.00 . When I got home I realized how small the portions where. Normally they give two nice size pieces of ribs but I got one. And the enchilada did not come with the usual cucumber salad. $49.00 for this? Really? Summary: THE place to eat between Yountville and Calistoga. 'Nuf said? Details: Yelpers complain that Rutherfood is inconsistent but we've never had a bad experience. Yes, you need a reservation or you'll wait forever. But the waitstaff are all polite and, even when things are packed, will check on you and even stay for a story, if you want. My favorite dish is grilled artichokes. They aren't always on the menu (typically only spring & summer), partially because they use a special heirloom artichoke. Big enough to share but I could eat it by myself. Tri-Tip and Enchilada: Wow, this dish works. The enchilada has butternut squash and cheddar in it. It comes with cucumber salad and an optional sunny-side egg. Get the egg. Small complaint: I asked for my tri-tip to be medium-rare plus but it was rare. Kale & Rotisserie Chicken Salad: Very tasty. A huge portion, with a generous amount of chicken. The menu doesn't give you a hint but it's a little spicy. Barbecue Pork Ribs: Much better than you'd expect for a non-BBQ joint. The fries are thin-cut and well seasoned. Chicken Salad: From memory, the menu said grilled chicken but, on a previous visit, it tasted fried. That's especially disappointing since we expected it to be gluten free. There's a wide selection of wines by the bottle but surprisingly few choices by the glass. I'm at about a 3.5 these days. I stop at RG every time I'm in the valley. I look forward to my visit and have been coming for about 14 years now and I notice subtle changes. OK, prices are going up, I get that. Totally fine and understandable. But when you raise prices, then lower the amount of product you get? That reminds me of the 2008 hop shortage when breweries charged more for their beer and put less hops in it. Akin to charging more for a Big Mac and taking out a patty. I get the ribs, every time I'm there, and in the past, its always been a full rack of ribs. I sub colcannon for slaw and basically get two potato products on our plate. SO, on my most recent visit, I get only 8 ribs. And this time they are pre cut, 3-3-5 and stacked to make it look like you are getting a lot. A full rack of ribs is 13. But wait! The cheapest thing on a plate is always potatoes, and you now get a tiny smattering of fries or colcannon. Bottom line, the food is good. Running a restaurant is difficult, I get it. Charging more and getting less? Thats, at least, disrespectful to your customers and at most, unethical. read more

As an experienced Diet Coke enjoyer there is an issue with this restaurants proposal of Diet Coke to the customer. They charge four dollars for eight fluid ounces of Diet Coke. In reference a regular can is 12 fluid ounces. This is a criminal rate for Diet Coke. They roughly make 233% profit on that Diet Coke, which is outrageous. We specifically came out of our way to Rutherford Grill after the sudden, shocking and inexplicable closure of our beloved Bandera, one of the formally most popular restaurants in Sacramento. It was a similar experience with a few exceptions, but overall I have to hand it to the Hillstone Restaurant Group for really knowing what people want out of a dining experience. The menu is somewhat similar, although I preferred Bandera's, which included a pork chop and prime rib. I went with the steak without the sweet Hawaiian marinade. It was a simple but satisfying dish. My wife loved her enchiladas as well. We liked the artichoke appetizer too, but it could be a little tough to eat. The star of the show, hands down, is the skillet cornbread. This is what they do best. At Bandera it was served in an actual skillet, which we preferred and appreciated just for looks; here it was on a plate. No matter though - the flavor is a rich mixture of savory and sweet. I would pay handsomely for the recipe. Now in all seriousness, Hillstone: When are you reopening Bandera in Sacramento? This is only my second time here. And both time we had to a wait time of at least one hour. If you're out at the wineries and decide you want to eat here make sure to make reservations. So we decided to sit at the bar and indulge in their appetizers and drinks instead. The appetizers were amazing and desserts were a delight! We ordered jalapeño corn bread, spinach and artichoke dip with chips, home smoked Salmon and deviled eggs. The jalapeño corn bread was serve on a circular pan that had crunchiness around it but moist inside. The jalapeño was not over power which made the bread unique, not to mention it was made from scratch....The smoked salmon was a delight, it came with this dill sauce instead of tartar sauce of some kind. That sauce actually compliments the salmon very well. For desserts we went with apple walnut cobbler with vanilla ice cream, which came in warm and toasty and a spoonful of ice cream to the bite was so delightful! The open faced Oreo ice cream was served as an ice cream sandwich in a bed of warm chocolate sauce, the servings were big enough to share unless you just love dessert then get your own :D. Last but not least they had an amazing list of wine. If you like red blends, I recommend the scouts honor red blends. It has a mixed of Zinfandel, Charbono, petite Sirah, and Syrah!!! First time here. My sister-in-law and I wanted to eat a little something before going across the way for a wine tasting at BV. No reservations, so we waited outside, took selfies with the pig sculpture, sat in the rocking chairs and enjoyed the sunshine. About 15 minutes later we were seated. We ordered: Grilled artichokes. We shared, but I could easily have eaten the entire order. They were quite good. Gulf coast style fish sandwich. My SIL said it was very good. Texas burger special. Their house chili on top of the burger, ordered it medium rare and was cooked to my satisfaction. I couldn't bring myself to put all the cheese and bun over it, so I ate it open faced, less messy that way. We both picked at my fries - thin cut and crispy. I was so disappointed with the change of menu at Rutherford's Grill. Their cornbread WAS legendary in the skillet; now they've changed it to 5 small cubes. Yes it taste fine but it's lost it's rustic touch. Also, their menu has changed so much it just basic food. Sure it taste fine but not innovative or unique. I can get a burger anywhere. Gone are their two sauce enchiladas with steak combo a perfect blend! Or their cauliflower salad. Out of all the great tasting restaurants to try here in Napa I couldn't wait to introduce our travel friends to the Rutherford's Grill; and we were so let down. This place has really changed from some yrs back. First off I wanted their delicious screwdriver. That was made with fresh squeezed OJ Now*.*Orange juice was really watered down. This place has a wonderful feeling to it. The booth, the wood, and the unpretentious atmosphere. It is a place where you can get a real straight forward Ceasar Salad. The Crispy Rock Shrimp are also a very nice touch. I love all types of Burgers. This burger was very good and loaded with very fresh toppings with a thin, well seasoned patty juice enough to add the perfect amount of flavor. The best French dip in the area. The au ju (dipping sauce) is very yummy and not very salty. The sandwich is very big so I was able to share it with a friend. The fries that came with was just okay. The ribs are one of the very best the flesh is falling from the bones, no needs to use the knife which is the sign of a good rib. They had made some changes most recently so now they have a dress code and the outside area will not be used as tables that they serve. It's now used as a waiting area. Service took ages, and every time we we tried to order they had run out of food, only the less popular items available on the menu. Get there early !!! We ended up with a sandwich. Our inexperienced waitress dumped food on table, never bothered to check on us. Another waitress helped sort things out. So we found ourselves needing some good food after tasting GREAT GRAPES at Caymas in Rutherford. We happened upon "The Grill" and sat at the bar. Our lovely bartender, Kelsi set it up and it was fantastic. Very attentive and a wealth of knowledge of the food and wine. I had the prime rib dip and it was excellent. Pared with a Kettle One dirty martini and finished with a lovely Pinot!! It's loud and lovely this place. People are friendly and the atmosphere engaging.
