My wife and I came in one Sunday evening. One side of the restaurant had a big party of loud kids. A waiter told us to sit on the left side which we did. We waited for a few minutes before our waiter greeted us. He took our drink orders, but never gave us any menus or eating utensils. I got up and got the utensils from an empty table. The bus boy gave us the chips and salsa. I had to ask him to bring us some menus. Our waiter came back with our drinks just as we opened our menus. He then asked us for our order. Duh! We soon decided on what to eat and started on the chips. The chips were very very stale and not the thin type as stated by another poster. Just as well, we don't like filling up on chips. The salsa was pretty good though. Our waiter came back and we ordered our food. We kept it simple. I ordered the Comal combo plate of enchiladas, beef taco, and guacamole ($10). My wife ordered the tacos al carbon ($14). The food came out fairly quick, but it wasn't very hot (temperature). Without a doubt it was the worst Mexican food we ever had. My enchiladas were a messy glob. I think there were two enchiladas, but I couldn't tell. They were flooded in a chili/tomato sauce. Think of a combination of chili gravy and red sauce in an enchilada casserole dish. I couldn't even tell how many enchiladas I actually had. The cheese was mixed into the enchilada sauce and there was none on top. My taco filling had the same sauce mixed in with the ground beef. The rice was undercooked and crunchy. The one tablespoon of guacamole had no taste at all. My wife's tacos al carbon weren't any better. The meat was very tough, chewy, and had no flavor. We didn't finish our meal and asked for the check. Our waiter asked if we wanted "to go" boxes, but we declined. If it wasn't good then, it surely won't be any good left over. I wish I could say something positive about this place, but I can't. The food was terrible and the service was so so. read more

If you are looking for better value and food go to Alicia's, Tony's, or Chuy's. I should have known the price was a bit higher when the price was not on the menu. $130 for 2 adults and one kid, adults with 2 margaritas each. The new Ruthie's Tex-Mex location on West Airport in Richmond is HORRIBLE. Don't waste your time or money. We picked up a to-go order -after waiting almost an hour to get it - and got home only to realize that they had given us the wrong food. I called the restaurant to tell them about the mistake and the woman on the phone actually accused us of taking the bag of food off the counter and leaving without paying for it - even though I was holding the receipt in my hand as I spoke to her on the phone. She said, "we did nothing wrong. You stole our food." We drove back to the restaurant (you know, like thieves do) with our incorrect order and made them get our signed receipt out of the register to prove we had paid for the order. They found the receipt but did not apologize for the accusation. The manager would not listen to the details of our story and all he would say was that there had been a misunderstanding. NO KIDDING! He asked if we wanted our original order and we declined (seriously?) and asked for a refund. We could see that he didn't know how to work the register to give a refund so without asking us he gave us a "gift certificate" but assured us the amount would be refunded. To date, our card has not been credited. Word of advice Ruthie's, before you accuse someone of stealing your average Tex-Mex food, make sure you have your facts straight. We will NEVER go back. Been eating at Ruthie's Tex-Mex for years. Consistently delicious food - for lunch today I had the shrimp enchiladas smothered in a creamy pico and cheese sauce that was yummy!! Mom had the Crispy Tacos plate which she enjoyed, and we both had a perfect gold margarita at only $6.95 each! So much food that we both had to take home and enjoy again at dinner! read more

So many places to chose from in Houston but this 1 always remained my favorite. The staff is always nice, the food is good not spectacular but the margaritas are excellent. I have been coming here for a while but then I moved. 2 years later I came back for a visit and the staff was like "hi where have you been". My husband was amazed so many people remembered me. Bottom line Chuys or Lupe Tortilla has better food but the margaritas and the staff is awesome you have to try it. read more

I have gone to Ruthies a couple of times and both proved the sale..... for tex-mex , I think their food isn't that good to cost that much.... and their fajita for two, isn't even enough for one and very over priced.... the atmosphere is nice, and the staff is friendly. Tried this place recently. Great decor, very friendly service and top notch food. I got spinach enchiladas, as I am vegetarian. They were LOADED with spinach and very tasty. Guacamole was good and our kid ate it right up. Looking forward to going back! Good salsa also! read more

Recently remodeled, we went in to check the place out. In reality, the decor didn't look too much different from what it was before, so okay. This is your traditional Mexican restaurant, with enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, chips, salsa, waiters, and a small bar. The red salsa is okay, but the green is wonderful! I had the shrimp enchiladas, which my only complaint, is the shrimp seem to be frozen, not fresh, but the sauces, rice, and beans seem to be fresh. If the restaurant's full, expect it to be noisy, but a good place to go in the neighborhood, to sit and have a traditional meal in restaurant surroundings. read more

This is bad Mexican food. I never thought I would use bland and Mexican food in the same sentence, but we ordered beef & chicken fajitas and the meat tasted like there was no seasoning whatsoever on it. I don't think they even bothered to add salt. The chips were old and cold, and the red & green sauces extremely bland with not even a hint of peppers. When I asked the waiter if they had any sauce that was spicier he told us we would have to pay extra for that. Speaking of the waiter, he was less than enthused to be serving us. I will say that the tortillas were good. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all. There are much better options. read more

My family is obsessed with this place! We are from south Texas so it's hard to find authentic Mexican food in sugar land, and ruthies did not disappoint! We always bring our family here and have our birthday dinners her! The kids love it. My fav is the steak fajitas, any of the quesadillas, the queso and he enchiladas! Consistently good food! The wait staff have all been there for years and get to know their regular patrons. If you waiter is busy you can bet another will make sure your needs are met. I highly recommend the California Enchiladas and the house margarita isn't bad either.
