We'd been eyeing the happy hour specials and finally had the cravings and opportunity to visit Ruth's Chris Steak House in Fresno for the first time. It's been over a decade since I've been to a Ruth's Chris! The previous time was for a surprise birthday celebration and the porterhouse steak was amazing. We came in for happy hour expecting something fairly low-key and ended up pleasantly surprised by how lively the bar felt and how satisfying the food was. The atmosphere is still polished and classic Ruth's Chris, but happy hour brings a more relaxed, social energy that makes it easy to stop in for drinks and bites without committing to a full steakhouse dinner. Since that first visit, we've gone back a couple more times, which probably says enough. One thing to know: the bar seating can fill up, especially during the more popular happy-hour window, so timing matters if you want to settle in comfortably. After being away from Ruth's Chris for so many years, this Fresno location reminded us why the name still carries weight. I just finished a meeting with one of my big bosses from LA and he wanted to go to dinner. I asked what did he have in mind? He said how bout a steakhouse. I'm not super familiar with steakhouse options here in Fresno, but I did see there was a Ruth Chris Steak House and I know it's a chain, but it's supposed to be high end. I assume this is gonna go on his expenses account! We agree and I drive us over there. It's easy enough to find. Inside it's pretty elegant looking, like this is gonna cost some money! We get seated by the friendly host. I put on a little nicer clothes for dinner. Drink orders were taken as we look over the menu. I see crab cakes on for appetizers. So we get that to share. ($34)! I didn't get a lot of pics, cause when you go to a fancy place with the boss, you don't go reaching around and excuse me, lemme get a pic of that! Next we ordered our entrees. I got the smaller 8oz Petite Filet ($62) and the boss got the lamb chops ($68). We both had the French Onion Soup ($17ea) as well. For sides we ordered the spinach and the lobster mac and cheese, both to share. The lobster mac and cheese was $34! You can see the prices really add up, when everything is charged separate. I will say the food here is pretty damn good. My steak was cooked perfect as were his lamb chops. The French onion soup was decent, maybe not the total best I ever had, but at least 3.5 stars. The filet Mignon was super tender, I'll give it that. I'll say the dinner and meeting was a success as was the news of my bonus for doing a good job on past projects! I am typically not a chain person, but Ruth's Chris manages to be pretty good on the rare occasion I find myself here. After a bad steak experience my wife had while on vacation, she requested we come here to hopefully get a decent steak to try and make up for it. Service was good, food was good, everything went off pretty much how we expected it. Our steaks were cooked exactly as we asked and the sides were tasty. If I had to knock something, their potatoes au gratin are just kind of cubed potatoes instead of thinly sliced. It still tasted good, but I would have preferred them to be way thinner. I am so surprised by the bad reviews, my husband and I have been coming here for special occasions (valentines, anniversaries, etc) for years and have yet to have a bad experience. The food is always amazing, steaks are cooked to perfection and the sides are huge and flavorful. We recently visited for our wedding anniversary, they had our table set with rose petals and a special anniversary menu. Everyone wished us a happy anniversary from the host, to the server to the busser (and everyone in between). They have a 3 course for $60, which is such a great deal, we each ordered the filet with shrimp, it came with a salad (or soup), side and dessert. My recent visit to Ruth's Chris Steak House was unfortunately disappointing. The only positive I can confidently say is that the wine selection was enjoyable. My date and I both ordered burgers from the bar menu. His was cooked exactly as requested--pink, juicy, and well-prepared. Mine, however, was quite the opposite and came out very overcooked, almost like a hockey puck. I wishi had remembered to take a photo. I was really disappointed and ultimately had to send it back. It put a bit of a damper on our date since, at that point, it was too late for me to order something else. I was also surprised that there wasn't any offer to make it right for a future visit. I'm always taken away by the exceptional service provided by the staff at Ruth Chris. I took it upon myself to bring my best friend here for their 3 course for 60 dollar special I added the special request of making her dinner birthday themed and they delivered The course started with a soup or salad. Naturally we are gravitated to the French Onion Soup. It was delicious. Next the main course we enjoyed a 6oz steak with shrimp with the 25 dollar add on of Lobster tail. I asked for medium rare steak and it was cooked perfectly. Finally the cheese cakes were delicious. I enjoyed the chocolate while my friend had the original. Let's give a round of applause for Ruth's Chris this year on an amazing thanksgiving! I have done this twice now and I can say that the first time wasn't the best but still very good but this second time was special. First time around the hostesses (2yr ago) were rude and we had some back and forth weirdness before getting table etc. this time they treated my mom so good and just had a very high level of hospitality quality. Had a Hendricks and tonic and it was just perfect. Waiting for our table at the bar, they come and remind us and the transition from bar to table was seamless. In the past I was hamstrung with closing tabs and back and forth crap, they made it easy for us and that counts to me. At the table i was surprised to see we were seated at the same table as years ago. I know they didn't know but that was kinda cool. Friendly informative staff here explaining the menu and special day, taking care to attend to my mom's asks and such.Just so kind and easy and smooth! I wanted a steak today though so no turkey! Ordered the bone in ribeyes and my mom got lamb chops. We got potatoes Brussels sprouts and cream spinach for sides. The steaks came out piping hot and cooked absolutely perfect. I order char medium rare and it is perfect. My moms lamb chops with so much flavor, i try them and almost regret the steak but then i go back to the steak and take it all back. They were on point with the meat quality and cooking them to perfection. I'll also say that the size and quantity is over the top. My steak was HUGE! The fat cap was so tender and the lean section juicy. My mom's plate had so much meat on it with multiple double bone chops it was amazing! My friend and I had reservations at 6pm on a week night for a party of two. The hostess that greeted us was friendly. We were asked to sit just for a moment while she got our table together, although we arrived on time and the dining room was almost completely empty. We were sat at a dimly lit booth and were immediately greeted by the busser who asked our water preference. Our server who took our drink and food orders was quite polite and suggested a couple appetizer recommendations, which we obliged. Oof. I really didn't want to write this review. My husband and I have been going to Ruth's Chris for our anniversary for years, and we've almost always loved it. We hadn't tried this location before, but since we were visiting family from out of state we figured we'd mix things up and finally make up for our missed anniversary dinner. Right when we walked in, we were surprised...it just didn't have the same upscale feel as the Portland location. The service was fine, but nothing memorable. For the first time ever at a Ruth's Chris, my filet had two chunks of fat--not the melt-in-your-mouth kind, but the chewy, gag-worthy kind. We didn't send it back (even though we probably should have), and that's saying something because we pretty much always order the same thing and know exactly what to expect. What we did send back... also a first, was the Lobster Mac & Cheese. The lobster tasted fishy and oddly chewy, like it had been sitting for a while, and the pasta itself just wasn't seasoned well. They remade it without the lobster, but the replacement tasted like plain, under-seasoned butter sauce. Definitely not the creamy, decadent dish we've had so many times before. Our server was okay, but we felt a bit rushed. He mentioned that they normally gift cheesecake for anniversaries, but since they had leftover pumpkin cheesecake from the holiday, that's what we were given. This is my second time here. Christian served our party of 7. The front reception was super quick and assertive. I forgot her name but she was super professional. The entire team was great. The vibe was slightly busy for a Monday night. It's moody and dark in there. A perfect place for a group or a date night. The bar area is even nice too. The food was good. They ran out of tomahawk steaks and I was so excited to get my birthday steak. I ended up getting a cowboy ribeye. I'm disappointed that they ran out. I ordered it but they came back a few minutes later to let me know. The sides are good. We had Brussel sprouts, calamari, tuna, and potatoes, and asparagus. All of them are good. Decided to come here on Valentine's Day this year and my partner and I made a reservation at 3:15 since it was the only reservation left! Walked in and they sat us in between two other tables that were so close to us I had to shuffle in and apologize. When we sat down, the table next to us gave me a dirty look and I felt super uncomfortable. Had to text my partner since the tables were so close that they could hear every word I was saying if I did complain. My partner asked if there was another table and the staff said no, so my partner had to go up to the front and explain that the people next to us were being rude and how where we sat felt uncomfortable. The hostesses all listened to my partner and offered the bar area instead. We left because I felt so weird but ended up going back in since we went for a Valentine's Day meal. They were passing out free red roses for the ladies which I truly thought was very romantic and sweet of the restaurant for the occasion. Our service was excellent. I have been a patron of this restaurant since it opened. We had dinner in the bar area tonight, and it was clear that at least tonight, there was a problem. Is was not busy, but there were used, unattended dishes and glasses on the bar, some in front of people eating, the entire time we were there. There were at least two tables around us where people had completed their meal and left, but the tables had not been cleaned and picked up. Our dishes were not clean. The meal was subpar. Our lobster was not edible, the filets, salad, shrimp and baked potato were average. Workers were standing around chit chatting, on their phones, and it just was nothing close to stellar, which is what Ruth's Chris, for a $330 check for two people, should be. Went for a casual date night and it horrible . We were seated isolated from everyone. The water that we got had food floating around, (not cleaned well). The server only checked on us ONE TIME throughout the whole night . I ran out of soda half way through my dinner and was drinking out of my boyfriend's soda because we weren't getting checked on . When we were seated the bread and butter was not provided ( we had to ask for it ). Even after this horrible experience we still left a reasonable tip . I had one of the most blatantly discriminatory experiences I've ever had at a restaurant, and it happened tonight at Ruth's Chris. I came in after work wearing my medical scrubs -- something I've done many times before. As a physician, I often stop in after a long day, and never once has anyone mentioned a dress code or restricted where I could sit. I have always been seated in the main dining area without issue. Tonight, the hostess told me to "wait a minute." After several minutes, she returned and informed me that I was not allowed to sit in the main dining room and would have to sit in the bar instead. When I asked why, she suddenly cited a dress code -- a dress code that has never been enforced before and one I was completely unaware of. Meanwhile, as we were walking in, I watched a couple leaving the main dining area where the woman was wearing denim, a white shirt, and sandals -- something that clearly violates their so-called dress code more than medical scrubs worn by a professional coming off a shift. The only thing that was different about tonight? I brought my nanny with me. The contrast was obvious: They selectively enforced a "dress code" only on us. It wasn't about attire -- it was about appearance and assumptions. Being told out of nowhere that I wasn't "allowed" in the main dining room, after years of being welcomed, was humiliating, inconsistent, and deeply discriminatory. If Ruth's Chris is comfortable hiding discriminatory behavior behind a conveniently sudden dress-code excuse, then this is not a place that respects all of its guests. Im not a big steak person, so I went with the fish, per the bartenders recommendation. And OMG it did not disappoint! I was laughing since my dad always says, "Never get fish at a steak house!" We ordered bread pudding that came ice cold, hard, and we had to cook ourselves. Our filets were both cold and undercooked. We ordered medium rare and got rare. They were so chewy it was an unpleasant experience. The flavor of the filet was nice, but that's it. Neither of us finished them. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was so soggy we ate one bite and had to throw it out. :/ The mashed potatoes were REALLY delicious. I will say that. Best I've had in a while. LOST ITS LUSTER... Went to happy hour last evening to give Ruth's Chris a retry after a bad Easter experience. Used to be on of my favorite places to go with friends and family. Well, once again, I was totally disappointed by their food and drink quality. The service was exceptional as usual and tipped very well because of it however, the food quality has gone down so poorly, and the drinks taste like they were made by a third grader- room temperature martinis, barely shaken, over use of olive juice . I'm afraid to say that I will not be going back to them for a looooooong time. Don't know what happened to them, but it seems like the busier they get the more their quality drops off could be a staffing. Issue could be a training issue not my business to solve. Wanting a good "adult" meal, we realized there was a Ruth's Chris close to our location. No reservation, we decided to give it a go. We've had mixed experiences at the Ruth's Chris in Seattle and Bellevue Wa, so we were a bit dubious of the experience we would have in Fresno. How wrong we would be. It was quiet, so they were able to quickly seat us. The wait staff( Hailey ) was nothing short of amazing. Wanting a nice meal, but not ready for a huge meal, we decided to split the Prix Fixe option. We upgraded the meal with the 16oz Ribeye and optioned for the Lobster. We split the Caesar's Salad and chose the Creamier Spinach. We ordered a side of Mashed Potatoes. We had hardly ordered when the salads appeared. They were flavorful with lots of shaved Parmesan. We were 1/2 through our salads when the main course arrived ! Talk about fast! I love how the steaks are served on a sizzling platter. Since we're sharing a meal, they brought to dinner plates, also sizzling hot. Nice touch. The Ribeyes were cooked to perfection. Rich in flavor with a perfect texture. The Lobster was firm and flavorful but then again what isn't when dipped in warm butter. The potatoes and spinach were as good as any we can remember. Perfection. We finished the evening with the cheesecake. Firm with the right balance of dry and moist. This would challenge any Cheesecake you would get in NYC. What a perfect ending to a long day. To start the place was elegant and welcoming,servers did their part in making it a good experience at the start for sure. they were kind and informative. the place was dimly lit and the tables had cloths over them. we got to the ordering part i got a 3 course. the salad, 6oz steak and 3 shrimp,roasted Brussel sprouts , and cheesecake. my girlfriend got the stuffed chicken breast. i get the salad it's amazing no complaints there. i get my steak and brussel sprouts, i start with the brussel sprouts and they're great. i get to my steak and it's going well but halfway through it tastes off and weird so i have my girlfriend finish what she can i did notify my server of the steak being off they let me know next time to inform them earlier about it so they can fix it, they weren't checking up on us often enough for that so i don't get their point, should i have taken it to the kitchen for them or something lol . my girlfriends stuffed chicken breast was really good. she drank water. i drank club soda. once i finished my club soda. i noticed my water cop had a weird smell i notified them of that too and the worker's attitude about it was really dismissive and honestly just ruined my meal. I celebrated my birthday and we had made a reservation beforehand for my birthday so they set up my table with birthday confetti which I thought it was a very sweet gesture. I had the deal where you get an entree, starter, and dessert which I REALLY enjoyed. I wasn't a big fan of the French onion soup but that is a matter of personal preference. Went to dinner for my birthday. Told them it was my birthday on the reservation and when they called to confirm. Hostess did not look like she enjoyed her job. She did not smile at all. We were seated in a walkway with a table with a toddler on one side and a table with a baby on the other. Did not even ask us if we preferred a booth. Or of this table was okay. Our waiter recommended a temperature higher than I normally order for my filet. It was overcooked. $75 filet should not be overcooked! He never checked in on us nor asked how our meal was. He did not offer dessert. On my birthday! We've been coming to Ruth's Chris for special occasions for many years. Unfortunately the quality of the food and service does not seem to be as good as before. Portions are smaller but prices have gone up. There used to be a dedicated server's assistant for each server to help with things like refills and packaging leftovers. We went for Thanksgiving and the hostesses did not seem to know what they were doing. We had a reservation but everyone that came around the same time and after us were all seated before us with no updates. We had to ask multiple times but they didn't check our specific reservation or seem to know our request details. One of them interrupted and rudely cut us off as we were talking to another hostess. If you want any sides minimum price is $16 for mashed potatoes, $17 for asparagus. Bread was sub-par; no taste. Steak by itself was already $78!! for supposed 16 oz. We used to love the happy hour and weekend dates without the kids.. after Covid the quality and portions went down. My sons love the lobster Mac and most everything is decent, but overpriced.. you'd be better off making a steak at home. read more

Reservations: Easy to make. We decided to eat here for our 10 year wedding anniversary and 16 years of being together. I originally wanted to go to The Elderberry House (A dream of mine), but our cat passed and we had to get her cremated so we opted for a staycation instead. Ambiance: Casual. I was overdressed. I ordered a more simple dress. It had a stain so I returned it and had this dress in my closet for back up. Service: We arrived early at 6pm and missed happy hour, but too early for our 6:30pm Reservations. They sat us promptly at 6:30. Our waiter, Evan was extremely attentive. Our table was decorated which made me happy. Food- Cost with tip $240 (I accidentally ordered an $8 still water because I thought they didn't have tap water.) Bread and butter- Okay. The best bread and butter I ever had was from Tony Romas at Universal walk and I haven't found anything that compares to that bread and butter. It was so good, I was literally eating the butter on its own. Lol. Sidecar- It was a suggestion by the waiter. Way too strong for my liking. I should have just stuck with my tried and true, margarita. However, perfect for someone who likes a strong drink. My husband loved it and finished it for me so it was not wasted. My husband ordered the filet with a side of cremini mushrooms. Perfectly medium rare. I got the Ruth's Classic with the 6 oz steak and shrimp with a ceasar salad and garlic mashed potatoes. Steak- Good, it had a nice pink middle. I do not like steak well done so I'm glad it was cooked correctly. It came out sizzling hot. Ceasar salad- This Ceasars salad was absolutely delicious. It's my favorite salad and I finished every bite. Garlic Mashed Potatoes- I had to remind the person bringing out my food about the garlic mashed potatoes which came out later than my salad and steak. It was a little bland. I couldn't taste the garlic. I had to use my husband's gravy from his mushrooms to give it a little flavor. That's where the one star is lost for me. Dessert- Anniversary Cheesecake- No complaints here. Would be back, especially for their Happy Hour. read more

We always wanted to try Ruth's Chris , havent heard a whole lot about the food , since it was my wife's Bday we gave it a try , it started out pretty awesome , I called ahead made reservations for 6 and told them it was my wife's Bday , when we got our menu's my wife's name was on to wishing her a happy Bday , I got a lot of points from wife and guests , food was on point , steaks where wonderful , fish and scallops awesome , and the service was of the hook , we had a awesome night with a awesome meal read more
