We had stopped by once before on a Tuesday around 3 p.m., but it was virtually empty and there wasn't anyone manning the front counter, so we ended up leaving. We decided to try it again on a Friday, and it was definitely hopping. The portions are very generous. I like that the meals come with two sides plus either a salad or soup. That's a lot of food. They also have an $85 dinner-for-two option that includes an appetizer and everything, but it honestly sounded like too much food for my husband and me, so we didn't order it. The steak I got was really good, and the kids' menu had a decent selection. The Nevada cheesecake was excellent, although the crust was a little thick for my taste. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, and the atmosphere was nice too. We'll definitely be back. Next time, I want to try the prime rib. read more

This was my first visit to Tahoe Joe's and I wasn't really sure what to expect as I haven't heard much about this place in the past. I love the big bear carving outside the front door. We were in a large group and were seated at some tables underneath a moose mount, and I had to have my bf sit underneath it instead of me because it made me nervous, lol. I had been missing the nachos so I came over here for lunch. One of the first people in the building. My server was very nice quiet but nice. I asked if I could get a half nacho or a kids nacho since I had sleeve surgery and they said no which is fine. I paid full price and took my leftovers. I also ordered a dozen rolls what was upsetting was I was never offered my 4 free rolls I assumed since I ordered them to go they would give them to me but they did not which kinda sucks. Everyone knows Tahoe Joes is good! But , yesterday I had the best meal I have ever had there. Our waitress was fantastic, and the food was perfect, hot, juicy and delicious. This is my birthday month, so I decided to enjoy some Prime Rib! Amazing! My daughter and I decided on their dinner for two. It includes an appetizer, seared calamari, then a choice of steak, prime rib, or roasted chicken, and you share a dessert! So we ended up with pistachio crusted seared calamari, their amazing beef veggie soup, prime rib, baked potato and amazing cheese cake to top it all off. We only ate the appetizer and soup and half of the prime rib and we were full. So the rest will be lunch today! I see that as a win for us, two meals for two days. A friend loves coming to this restaurant and decided it for his birthday dinner. We made reservations prior to coming. They only seated us if everyone was present. Came with a party of 4 and seated us at the booth but it was really small and cramped. Our table was missing the drink menu so we couldn't order drinks right away. The waitress Meagan was nice and took our order but they took a long time to give us bread. We had to ask them for the bread. Drinks and food came out and they were good. I got the Wild berry Lemonade ($10), a beer ($6.25), Half rack of ribs ($29) and Whisky Peppercorn Sirloin ($28). Three of us got baked potato and I thought it was cute that they come out with a baked potato topping station. I felt like my water only got filled one time unless we asked. We noticed our waitress was taking care of multiple tables which is why it probably took so long. They also took a while for the check and to go boxes. The restaurant also had a sign saying they closed at 8pm instead 9pm. We assumed it was due to low staff. The food was delicious I took some home for leftovers. Just wish the service was faster and maybe a bigger table too. On a positive note we were able to get a free birthday cheesecake that came with a candle. We came at 2pm, and you could order from the lunch or dinner menu so we ordered from the dinner menu. We got the rib eye with baked loaded potato and green beans , and the crab cake side dish . It was more than enough food for two people . The rib eye is A+ it was super juicy and tender , one of the best rib eyes I have had in a long time . We sat on the bar side of the restaurant, but unfortunately the AC wasn't working in that section--it honestly felt like we were outside, which is my only complaint. The young bartender, however, went above and beyond, keeping us stocked with cold water and offering great customer service--thank you for that! We ordered our food directly with him, and he nailed it. My steak was cooked exactly the way I like it--no raw center, no red. Excellent job! I would have given five stars if not for the heat. Today I got takeout and the order was perfect, I never need to look in the bag make sure it's all there like some places. I got the wood-grilled chicken salad which has this beautifully light champagne vinaigrette, you can taste the smoke flavor in the chicken, that and the gorgonzola balance the sweetness of the dressing and raisins. First, I have to say that Tahoe Joe's was our go to steakhouse. We spent many years eating dinner there. The food was always scrumptious and wonderful. Great service. We decided to go to Tahoe Joe's for New Year's Eve. We were unfortunately, very disappointed. My husband chose a medium cooked prime rib ($35.00). It was awful. The prime rib was not cooked correctly. It looked like a gray piece of meat. We had to cook it a bit. I chose the Taylor Creek Salmon ($32.00). The piece of salmon I received was about a 4 inch piece. It was cold and unappetizing. We also ordered asparagus ($6.00) which was typically barbecued. The wood-grilled asparagus was unevenly cooked and tasteless. Our daughter ordered the best dish. It was the California chicken sandwich ($16.50). Very simple but good. Overall, we will not go back. Tahoe Joe's has changed ownership. It is now owned by a conglomerate that has changed our Fresno style steakhouse. It's not the same! read more

we've gone to a couple of Tahoe Joe's in the past and enjoyed our meals, however tonight's experience left a lot to be desired. Thankfully we were early about 4:00 pm. There were only a handful of other customers when we arrived. we were seated and promptly greeted by our server. she was friendly and helpful. she took time to answer all our questions. my wife ordered the Twin fillets with a bake potato and a salad, I requested the pan-seared calamari, topped with a lemon caper butter sauce and zesty fettuccine Alfredo and fresh vegetables and a salad. our server promptly brought our salads and rolls. the rolls were warm and tasty and my salad was great. My wife's salad was cool and crisp but the dressing was tasteless. it was like eating lettuce without dressing at all and the consistency of the dressing was watery like maybe it had been diluted with water. When the entrees were delivered they looked great and the portions were huge. My wife always orders her steaks well done and it was cooked exactly as she had requested. like almost everything we were served it was definitely under seasoned but for her, a little salt and pepper solved that. Meanwhile the potato and green beans were tasty. Sadly my calamari looked great and the fettuccini serving was huge But the fettuccini was tasteless As though it had been boiled in unsalted water. The sauce, rather than being a creamy slightly garlicky Alfredo sauce with parmigiana cheese, was oily and tasteless no cream and just a sprinkling of parmigiana cheese. All of it was so bland that no amount of salt could save it. I left most of it on the plate. The calamari was encrusted with a pistacho coating that also lacked any salt or other seasoning and the lemon caper butter sauce tasted vaguely like whatever it was that was on the fettuccine, oily, heavy, bland, and tasteless. The sauce also turned the pistachio coating soggy. With enough fresh lemon squeezed over it made it passable but barely. The vegetables were the best thing on the plate. One bright spot was our server. In spite of having 12 parties seated in a very short time she was amazing. It did, understandably, slow the service down but she remained unfailingly up beat and somehow managed to refill our tea and briefly check in to see how we were doing. She was so busy that I didn't have the heart to complain. Overall, it was a disappointing experience with the exception of the server. As a first time visitor I was surprised that the menu was not as robust as I expected. The server was pleasant although a bit slow which was surprising given how few customers there were. I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp. The shrimp were good and filling although the veggies were over cooked, almost burned. Not my preference. The chicken pot pie soup was the highlight of the meal. Tahoe Joes used to be one of our favorite steak places however many locations have closed so when we are in Fresno we like to stop by. Unfortunately we won't be returning to this location after our most recent visit. We stopped by on a Saturday around 130-2pm and were informed that for a party of 4 (2 adults, 1 child and 1 baby) we would have to wait 10-15 mins. This was fine, however it took almost 5 minutes to even be acknowledged at the hostess stand and then told another 10-15 mins when there were tons of tables open (one being where we were eventually sat). It took about 10 mins to order drinks and then the waiter brought our 4 year old his drink in a glass mason jar, no kids cup even though we saw other tables who had them. Add on another 15+ minutes to place an order and then about 30+ to get our main entrees after that. And then we watched another worker/manager walk our entrees around the restaurant trying to figure out which table they belonged to. So yay semi- warm food. Service was lacking. Waiter only came around one time and finally filled our water glasses but never offered again or stopped by other than to drop the check and offer dessert. Quality of the food was lacking and for the amount of time we waited, definitely was a disappointment. Overall the food was nothing special and the service was very poor. Hadn't been here in a while. Used to like to come and enjoy a steak and all the fixings, and I loved the ambience of the fireplaces inside. I believe there used to be a fireplace in the middle of the restaurant, which they have now removed so ambience not so great anymore. Service was excellent. The restaurant wasn't too busy, so we were seated right away. The margarita the waitress recommended was excellent. I believe it was called the 1825 margarita. My son's steak was very fatty, but he ordered the one that comes sliced so maybe he ordered the wrong one. My joes steak salad was ok, and my husband liked his burger. The meal for 3 of us was over $100 and my husband and I just had salad and hamburger. I am thinking if I go again I will just try their happy hour specials, because the drink was awesome read more

We have been going to this Tahoe Joe's since it opened about 1995. The food is always good, the service above par. Their New York Strip is one of the best steaks they have. Always perfectly cooked with a huge baked potato. Love their dinner salads too. Their homemade dressings are very tasty. They're do not skimp on portions either. We always buy their gift cards with the bonus cards every Christmas with the hopes they will last all year but they never do. Haha. We always ask for Dena as she is the best. Patrick is really good too. Most of the staff and have worked here for years and that says a lot about their management and how their company is run. This review is specifically for the happy hour! We have not eaten dinner here recently enough to review the restaurant -- just happy hour in the bar. For many years, my husband and I enjoyed going to happy hour at Tahoe Joe's. When the kids were small we'd leave them with Grandma and Grandpa and head to Tahoe Joe's bar on West Shaw (before that location closed). It was almost like our Cheers -- my husband had been some of the servers' teacher and it was just a very friendly relaxed vibe. Our go-to was always beer and the nachos. Perfect relaxing snack at the bar. The West Shaw location has been closed for many years and a couple times when we tried the bar at the N Cedar location, it was too frenetic and crazy-busy. But ...I had a hankering for those nachos. So we went tonight to the N Cedar location after work to check out Friday happy hour before a holiday weekend. Dangerous, right? No -- there was plenty of space at the bar. Some of the high top tables were occupied but at the bar itself, it was one businessman at the other end of the bar and ourselves. Service was friendly and quick. My husband got his old standby Lagunitas, but I broke with my beer tradition and instead ordered a "Joes Moscow Mule" from the happy hour menu. I didn't ask what made it "Joe's" in particular but it was cold, refreshing, and a good price. The menu says "Smooth Russian Standard Vodka muddled with fresh mint and lime then hand-shaken with ginger beer." It's true I saw the bartender muddling. It was a good drink -- not especially strong but I felt it a bit. During happy hour I think it was $7 instead of $9.75. Don't quote me. It was a little cheaper for sure. Husband was happy with his draft Lagunitas. And the nachos -- they were just as we remembered -- once we got them. We had forgotten they didn't have any meat (which was fine, but we might have requested to add some protein). And we'd forgotten that we usually asked for some salsa on the side to add to them. I think in the old days we also used to see guacamole on the nachos: but maybe it was something we requested to add. The nachos were good and brought back our happy hour memories -- warm crispy chips with refried beans, melted cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, and a little chopped tomato and cilantro. Quite tasty. We'll definitely come back here soon. If it was closer to our home, I could see making this a regular "thing" again. It's just very chill and relaxed -- and it's a nice treat without stuffing your face or getting too expensive. read more

Disgusting. Half the steak was still raw, the other half dry as a box of sand, no seasoning of any kind not even salt and pepper. Mashed potatoes taste like actual dirt. The green beans again no seasoning beyond some slivers of onion all of which wasn't cooked. Salad was nothing but ribs and hunks of yellow lettuce with tiny grainy smashed pieces of tomatoes, crumbles of stale bread and the tiniest amount of dressing...... this place is a humongous rip off and not even worth a quarter of the price. I brought my dear friend here for his birthday. I dropped him at the front while I parked. By the time I got in they had already seated him and were getting ready to "coat check" his walker without me even asking. Our salads were both delicious. Our waitress was pleasant enough, but must have had too many tables as it was hard to get her to come back as was necessary. When she brought one drink and not the other, I started to ask about the second drink and she said that it would be coming, but I could tell she was rushed and didn't really take the time to hear me. It would've been nice if she had just said here's one drink. I will be bringing the other because we were both drinking the same thing so I made the incorrect assumption that she had forgotten one of the drinks. Tahoe Joes has turned into the unloved child. I remember when Tahoe Joe's opened in 1993 and the multiple hour wait times. Today we stopped in because we got a gift card. The bathrooms had obviously not been touched since the restaurant opened. In the men's rooms the trash was so full everyone just started throwing it on the floor. The women's restroom was so bad my wife opted to just hold it as it was too gross to use. The food was a mixed bag. The onion straws had sat so long under the heating lamp they were soggy and only the top layer was warm. Decided to not eat it. Steaks were cooked perfectly medium and had a nice flavor. Got some cheesecake which is hard To go wrong here. We ordered multiple drinks and I have to say their bar pours some of the weakest drinks in all of the Central Valley. 1st drink I swear was just soda as you couldn't taste whiskey at all. The glory days of Tahoe Joes are definitely in the rear view mirror. It is the relative no one wants to be the one to pull the plug but in my opinion it's time to pull the plug. It's very sad To see this restaurant fall from glory to just another mediocre steak place. If you're looking for steak there are much better options in my opinion in the Fresno Market. read more

The food was good! Everyone liked what they got. I loved my Joe's Sandwich it was super tender and the right amount of spice. So cool that they put together the baked potato at your table. I expected the appetizers to be bigger portions which was a let down, but they tasted good. Waitress was awesome for handling a big table. She was timely and helped out everyone. Shoutout Mikaila!! Came here with a party of 14 at 6pm. Because a party was already there and staying over, we didn't get seated until about 6:45. The manager was extremely nice and did everything in his power to get them out. He also comped some of our meal for the inconvenience. I appreciate the accommodation but wish they would have pushed out our reservation rather than trying to get us in (which resulted in a long wait). Have to agree with the overall rating of 3 stars. Came for dinner early, alone, a couple waiting before me to seat... literally no one around. I looked into the bar and asked for service. Male employee with two dish towels hanging out of his back pockets took awhile to seat us and seemed to need guidance in doing so. First I have to comment about the ambience. Many of the seats are cracked and the carpet looks like it hasn't been cleaned since pre-covid. I came for the prime rib and it really was not like it had been in the past, I'd say sub par, I know because I often make it at home.
