If you're looking for a solid birthday dinner spot, Ruth's Chris in Honolulu never misses. They really know how to make the birthday person feel special -- complimentary champagne and a strawberry flambé to celebrate. Small touches like that go a long way. Service? On point. Shoutout to Dave (David) who absolutely nailed it. You can always tell when you've got a pro -- water glasses never empty, plates cleared without you even noticing, checking in at the right times without hovering. That's next-level hospitality. Food is consistently solid. Of course the steaks are amazing but if you're not in the steak mood, the scallops and sea bass are legit options. And that lobster mac & cheese side dish? Massive. Parking validated and free. Pro tip: They run a prix fixe menu from 4-6pm that can save you some money if you time it right. Overall -- dependable, classy, and perfect for a birthday dinner when you want to keep it special without guessing if the food will hit.

Winter menu tenderloin and jumbo lobster tail

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at Ruth's Chris Steak House, and the experience was truly special from start to finish. When I made the reservation, I noted that we were celebrating our anniversary, and the restaurant went above and beyond to acknowledge it. Upon arrival, we were led to a table beautifully adorned with rose petals, and every staff member who passed by took a moment to wish us a happy anniversary. Shortly after being seated, we were also treated to two complimentary glasses of champagne, which set a perfectly celebratory tone for the evening. The winter menu was outstanding. I ordered the tenderloin with a jumbo lobster tail, both cooked to perfection. My husband was very happy with his New York strip, and we also shared an entrée of scallops--because we never pass up the opportunity to enjoy fantastic scallops, and these did not disappoint. Although we were far too full for dessert, the team surprised us with flaming strawberries, served with dark chocolate and raspberry sauce, to help us celebrate--an unforgettable and thoughtful finish. Overall, the service, food, and attention to detail were exceptional. My only suggestion would be to slightly increase the music volume in the dining room. While the restroom music was quite loud, it was barely noticeable in the dining area, and a bit more ambiance would have helped drown out nearby conversations. It was a wonderful experience and a perfect place to celebrate such a meaningful milestone.

I swore off Ruth's Chris Steak House but here I am. Sadly, this time it wasn't much better than the last We started with crabmeat stuffed mushrooms. I didn't taste any crabmeat stuffing in the mushrooms... perhaps because the garlic in the stuffing was so overpowering I could not eat it. Instead I took out the stuffing and ate only the mushroom. For our entree he ordered a Ribeye and I had the 8 oz Petite Filet. His steak was good but a little over cooked even though he ordered a medium rare. I ordered a medium Petite Filet and it was under cooked... more like rare - medium rare. Maybe the kitchen mixed up our steak doneness.. I don't know but I did bring it up to the manager when he asked how our meal was going. Since we were celebrating a birthday they brought a complementary Strawberry flambé. Very nice touch and so nice to look at then it's flaming BUT they use so much alcohol that you cannot avoid it when eating the strawberries. Very strong liquor flavor so it's hard to eat if you are not a drinker. Service was okay. Also, even though I was not happy with previous visits, I consider Ruth's Chris a better restaurant... perhaps if you served your food on a cleaner plate it will give a little classier feel rather than on the same level as Zippy's. In a nutshell.. I will not return. For real this time.

We planned our wedding reception dinner for the past year. Traci was incredible to work with for the planning process. We treated our guests to the Premiere dinner for 20 people. The private room was cozy and great for large gatherings. We had our appetizers and sides served family style. The shrimp cocktail was amazing and the shrimp were large and cook perfectly! We also had a choice of steakhouse salad or Caesar salad. The crab stuffed mushrooms were tasty and delicious! The sides were broccoli, asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes and all were wonderful. The steak was cooked perfectly with the sizzling feature which I didn't know it was what Ruth Chris is known for. I will definitely be trying the Las Vegas locations. Thank you Traci for a memorable experience!

Located at Waterfront Park with validate parking. Services are excellent and attentive. We had a company Christmas party at Ruth's Chris at the party room. The room was very roomy and spacious. Food: 1. Filet mignon & Shrimp 10/10 2. Filet mignon & Lobster 10/10 3. Ribeye Steak 10/10 I would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion. Good food and great service.

My friend and I dined here last night to celebrate personal achievements and we really enjoyed our meal here! It's been a while since I had come to this steakhouse, but I'm not sure why we ever stopped! Our server Mel was amazing and friendly. She offered us complimentary champagne and a strawberry dessert dish to celebrate, which we really appreciated. We both had the pre fixe menu which comes with an appetizer, entree, side and dessert. We enjoyed our food! Steak was cooked great, lobster too. Salad was generous and sides were tasty. We learned that my friend is not a fan of creamed spinach (lol) but I enjoyed it. A little bit less creamy than other places which was preferred. Desserts were all amazing. I think this is something that might set Ruth's Chris apart from Morton's or Hy's. Both bread pudding and cheesecake were sooooo ono! We were too full so we didn't finish it, but believe me, I wanted to. Overall, so satisfied with my experience at Ruth's Chris! They generously gave a coupon for a free appetizer and will definitely bring my family back to use it. I think a lot of steakhouses have great food, but Ruth's Chris service (and desserts) are top notch.

We were invited to a business dinner and we were really impressed with the service, the quality of the food and the private dining area we wee seated. Everything about this location was amazing. Really enjoyed the time we spent and the atmosphere and food.

Today 8/24/25 my daughter's 26th birthday. We decided to order takeout from Ruth's Chris steak house. We ordered 3 ribeye steaks , 3 potatoes au gratin, and 3 sweet potato casserole. We normally go in to eat , but my daughter wanted to order and stay in to relax and watch movies together . The co food was absolutely amazing . The steak was nice and tender . We always celebrate here or our favorite Italian restaurant. They gave extra bread and our bearnaise sauce as requested . Excellent customer service when we picked up or food to go. In my opinion this is the best steak on the island .

I go to Ruth's Chris pretty often--both in Waikiki and Downtown--and the servers are always friendly and attentive, which makes every visit pleasant. That said, the steak can be a real gamble. Sometimes it's absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and full of flavor, but other times it's just disappointing. The inconsistency is a bit frustrating, especially for a place with such a reputation. If you hit it right, it's amazing; if not, it feels like a waste. Still, the service keeps me coming back, and the locations are convenient for both touristy Waikiki and downtown outings.

Came here for a company party and everything was amazing. Friendly staff and a huge steak. My steak was cooked perfectly and was nice and juicy. I liked this place a lot better than Morton's Steakhouse. The private event room was perfect.

We celebrated our Anniversary at our favorite Steakhouse "Ruth's Chris". Impeccable service from the front to the back. Tonight we sat in the main dining room which was quite nice. For appetizers we had the Mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat. Very tasty and light on the palette. We split a Chopped Salad and ordered the Stuffed Chicken Breast and the Cowboy Ribeye with a Loaded Baked Potato. They make an awesome Stuffed Chicken Breast, love that crispy skin! My Cowboy Ribeye was cooked to perfection. Medium rare and seasoned perfectly. For dessert we were treated to the Strawberry Flambé. We also ordered the Chefs Seasonal cake "Carrot Cake". A totally decadent cake very rich and flavorful. Good thing we ordered it Ala Mode. The vanilla ice cream was a perfect pairing for the cake.

    Not that I know of.

Where do you park ? thx you thx you !

The downtown location is at the now Waterfront Plaza (formerly Restaurant Row). There is a parking garage that you can get your parking validated at Ruth's Chris. There are two entries, one off of South Street, the other off of Pohukaina Street.

In my experience, yes -- if you let them know ahead of time that you're celebrating a special occasion

Do they do anything for special occasions?

I have been for several events and they try to help you celebrate your special occasion (i.e. birthday, anniversary, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, etc.).

Usually feeds one - but it's enough to have leftovers for the next day.

Do they still serve the oysters rockefeller?

    No they no longer

Are you able to bring your own wine?

    I doubt it

What is the proper dress attire?

I don't think they really enforce a dress code like Hoku's, Hy's Steakhouse, or mainland Ruth's Chris Steakhouses. I have seen people in shorts and an Aloha shirt, but I would say to not feel like a total outcast, to go business casual at the…

If you are referring to the Prime Time menu with salad, side, entree and dessert the answer is yes. Runs 4:30-6

Quite a bit of parties around us were partaking in this. Though a friend of mine didn't want to drink a whole bottle by herself, she tried a glass of Rosé from France which she stated was very delicious. I on the other hand had asked for a non-alcoholic option. Unfortunately, they ran out of ginger beer, all the sparkler options, and didn't serve any soda. The bartender looked pretty irritated by that point, and didn't even provide me with a glass of water. We would've grabbed a bunch of food to compensate for taking up a seat, but by then, the bartender had already dropped the check, and we hadn't even sat there for more than 5 minutes. The most interesting part was that an older couple sat next to us, similar situation. The gentleman asked for a glass of wine, and his wife asked for a non-alcoholic beverage. Though a different bartender came back with a sparkler option for her. Needless to say, I felt pushed aside and I don't believe I'll be back to this location any time soon. The fries were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and impossible to stop eating. You know they're good when you keep reaching for "just one more" and suddenly they're gone. We also got the fried calamari and it was perfectly golden and tender, not rubbery at all. Light, crispy coating and super snackable -- especially dipped in the sauce. But the sleeper hit? The smoked ahi with lavosh. So flavorful and fresh, with that smoky richness balanced by the crisp lavosh. It felt light but still packed with taste -- a perfect contrast to the heavier fried stuff. Honestly, everything hit. Great mix of indulgent and fresh, and I'd order this exact combo again without hesitation.

We stopped in during their happy hour from 3-5 PM, and it immediately stood out as an ideal after-work pau hana or easy date-night spot. The space is relaxed and inviting, with a calm, tucked-away feel that makes you forget you're inside a hotel. The happy hour menu is impressively priced, with starters beginning at just $6, yet everything feels thoughtfully prepared and elevated. Highlights included the toasted bread with sun-dried tomato pistou -- warm, crisp toast paired with a deeply savory, herbaceous spread that's simple but incredibly satisfying. The mini poke bowl was fresh and well-balanced, showcasing clean flavors and quality fish without being overly heavy. The fish tacos delivered exactly what you want: crispy island fish, bright flavors, and a great balance of texture. We also tried the fish and chips, featuring lightly fried island fish, hot fries, and a creamy house remoulade that tied the dish together beautifully. The standout for us was the empanadas -- flaky, crisp pastry filled with tender braised beef and potato, finished with a bold aji rojo sauce that added just the right amount of depth and gentle heat. Service was friendly and attentive without feeling rushed, and the overall vibe made it easy to relax and enjoy the experience. Whether you're looking for a low-key happy hour, a casual date spot, or a place to unwind after work, this is a hidden gem worth seeking out. I ordered the pork shoulder at first and the waiter recommended it be done, medium rare. I have to say I am no longer a fan of bloody meat so I asked for it to be done medium. Honestly, it arrived and to my palate was a bit tasteless.... given that it was almost $60 I thought twice but was encouraged to send it back. The waiter was accommodating and I ordered the lamb chops instead. Two thick sliced lamb chops arrived about 15 minutes later and were a perfect medium served on a bed of potato and sweet potato. I really enjoyed this.... I like my lamb chops usually grilled, juicy and fatty. These were refined, trimmed of the fat and beautifully plated. I'd like to try the paella next time and more of the appetizers. Really good choice of fancy little cocktails also. I would reserve the back room for sure next time. That room has high ceilings and feels elevated. The front room where we sat was OK. I'd also opt for the outside seating area on a breezy evening... Otherwise it can be rather humid in the summer. Overall, excellent service and delicious food offerings. A bit pricey to be expected given the area.

And came in right when they opened. Had to wait a little while they set up but they quickly took our drink order and started making them. Our bartender was super friendly and kind. I recommend. Would come again if in the area and looking for drinks and some food. If the rest of their menu is as wonderful as the escargot, this place is a gem.

Walking in I do love the slight dimly lit vibe as it gives me the feeling of relaxation and escape though it's not dark but just a calmness as we were taken to our table the staff is very nice and welcoming. Their menu offerings as I enjoyed a unique twist like Crostini Al Porcini which is a crostini topped with mozzarella and mushrooms was a fresh bite as some of the arugula that is topped off gave it a nice bite. The Rib Eye steak which I still dream about which we asked to be sliced for us was done perfectly and the Demi sauce was very delicate yet so flavorful and what a hearty bite along with our Caesar salad a classic that you just can't go wrong. I've also had the Puttanesca which was delicious as the linguine cooked just right scooped up all the sauce and yes this was two different nights but enjoyed just a wonderfully as I'm so grateful to have thoughtful friends I'm so thankful for, thank you Terry K and Nadine C as Mezzo was a wonderful place to escape. Cheers my friends as I'm beyond happy for these moments as hearty and amazing as the food is here so are the memories. Thank you!

It's also the only place on the island that actually serves bottomless mimosas (Sunday only). Unfortunately, the food was mid and price point was higher than a lot of other places. Madame Pele ($20): Small, personal pan size pizza. Nothing special about it--just topped with mozzarella and some not-spicy chili oil. The best part were the avacados but they were sparse. Ahi Katsu Sandwich ($26): Pretty good, liked it better than madame pele. But it's also nothing to write home about either. For $26, I expected something better. Bottomless Mimosa: best part of the experience, it was truly bottomless. You can choose between 3 juices (I think it was 3). I got POG and another friend got orange juice. One of the waitresses comes around and refills your champagne glass every so often and you can mix in the juice to your liking. The vibes were immaculate, but ultimately, I would only come back for the bottomless mimosa for a birthday brunch or for a pau hana so I can get some pupus without committing to a full entree.
