Wanted to try something different and stumble upon a this cute little place. If you want all American food-this is one of it. Smoked salmon toast was under their appetizer selection, so I was expecting a small portion to share, nope it was one big toast of yummy goodness. This can be a whole meal itself. We recently hosted a rehearsal dinner and welcome reception at RyeKC Leawood and we had an incredible experience! We were seated off to the side by the windows looking out to the patio area. Very cold. No one at any Point asked about this being a special day. My wife got a steak. It was good. But for that price I could have bought 3. I opted for a burger. G ind Of the day I believe. Dry needed salt the bun was both charred on the outside and mushy on the inside. I have had lunch at rye once before, a while back- and had dinner last night! Really like the food! Last night I had salmon and my husband had the hanger steak. The salmon was super moist and flavorful, and the sides of salad and the wild rice was perfect! My husbands hanger steak was also moist, flavorful and tender, he also had a side salad and fries! We got the whipped goat cheese w/bread from the appetizers- it was SO SO good. The cheese had honey and herbs and I loved it- was planning to get dessert at the end, but decided later the honeyed goat cheese would be my dessert instead! Definitely recommend. Do not sit at their bar if a nice-looking guy with a beard and an older guy semi-bald are both or either one on duty. They are very very rude. They act like you are lucky they are serving you. I travel to Kansas City frequently and have often eaten at Rye and been truly amazed at your offerings however, I was in your restaurant on Friday. I ordered your rigatoni. It was the worst thing I have ever tasted mainly because it was tasteless. The noodles were under cooked, and there was so little sauce it could not be found, the dish was definitely not as described and it makes me wonder about the rest of their offerings. I've been here a few times now and every time it has been so disappointing. After last night, we will not be back. The first time we went was on a Monday for their steak night and got the hanger steak with chimichurri sauce and fries. We also got a slice of lemon meringue pie for dessert. The steak was chewy and flavorless and the pie had a strong egg taste to it. Not to mention the portion size for the pie was laughably small. Last night we decided to give it another shot and went with some friends. We had a reservation and were seated promptly, but that was the last time anything ever happened quickly. It took 10 minutes for our server, Alicia, to come up and fill waters. Then another 10 for drinks. Then another 30 for getting an appetizer order put in. Another 30 before the appetizer came out. Another 30 before the dinner order was placed. Then another 45 before our dinners came out. On and on and on this went. We arrived at 7 and did not leave until 10. My shrimp and grits was awful. A sour sauce covered the dish, ruining the only redeemable part (the grits). The shrimp were rubbery and tasteless. I got a side dish of asparagus that was tough, crunchy, and also in some kind of sour sauce. My friend's burger was gritty and overcooked. We brought all of this up to our server, only for her to say "sorry, I'll let the kitchen know." No offer to take it off the bill even though all these dishes were barely touched. She didn't care at all. Only the drinks and mashed potatoes were worth ordering. I don't understand how this restaurant gets good reviews. From the horrible food, to the staff that are probably overworked and don't care, to the inexcusably high prices...it's a wonder people still come here. Well not me. Never again. read more

However, I'm not sure it was what I was expecting for "burnt ends." However, I am more of an eggs Benedict brunch person and theirs was delicious. Perfectly poached egg with a nice hollandaise sauce on and English muffin. The salad had a nice light vinaigrette and was refreshing. Oddly enough, my favorite and most memorable food Rye offers is their hashbrowns. Perfectly crispy on the outside, and a soft almost chewy inside. Also, their cinnamon rolls are HUGE and delicious! Reservations for brunch on a Sunday at 9:30. Seated promptly and not really busy at this time. Atmosphere inside is warm and relaxing. Get this out of the way right up front- the service was consistently attentive and friendly. Our coffee cups and water glasses were never empty. Very impressive. We ordered 4 plates between us and cinnamon roll and donut of the day to share. The cinnamon roll was of course amazing and the donut of the day - glazed churros delicious. My entree was spare ribs with eggs - first I've ever seen it on a breakfast menu. All the food was delivered promptly and all of it delicious. We will return every time we are back in KC. I'm a frequenter of Rye ( I live near the location at the country club plaza). Came to the Leawood location for a happy hour with a few coworkers (I''m a sucker for a quality happy hour, and I already knew Rye was going to be top notch). The main reason I wanted to come to Rye is because of the October article from People magazine (who teamed up with Eater (a food news and dining guide) to find the "most heavenly slices" in the US). Rye's Dutch apple pie made the list so I HAD to try it out (obviously). Rye has half priced pie slices during their happy hour, which is an amazing deal. The Dutch apple pie itself was really, really good. My only complaint is that it was served ice cold. I just assumed it would be warmed up before, and when I asked the waiter, he said you have to specifically request for it to be warmed. Other than that, the pie was delicious and the caramel sauce was heavenly (I definitely wish there was more of it on the plate other than a thin schmear). read more

This place is kinda hidden away way in the back of Mission Farms. But I do see it occasionally when I'm looking for a parking space and I have to drive a lil further. I didn't really like some of my meals here but it's not the restaurant's fault. It's just I couldn't find anything I would like in their menu. It's just my preference. I did really enjoy their roasted rainbow trout though. I've only gone here for brunch couple of times and once for dinner. I think people sit here at a leisurely pace and just keep sitting and that's just how the restaurant is. It's not a bad environment but when you're making eye contact with your waiter twice, you would think they would acknowledge you or come to your table. But I read previous reviews about how this restaurant truly wants their customers to take their time so I was prepared. All my friends that ordered steak loved their meals. And their burgers. I will say their fries are phenomenal. Like I would have ordered myself my own side but I just wanted to help my friends not have leftovers so no shame lol. This was very literally the best steak I've had in decades. I was skeptical during the pandemic, so TRIPLY checked as I'm here taking care of my 80 year old Mom. I worked my way through 20 restaurants on the Internet trying to figure out which one would be safest. Rye confirmed with me both via phone and email about their COVID measures. I was not disappointed in the least. We were so far away from other tables that it felt like we were almost alone there. I had a friend driving in from out of town and he was 15 min late, so I called and they still accommodated us. They had a gorgeous NYE menu, but we both elected for the 10oz filet and potatoes and salad. We did opt for the NYE prawns as an appetizer (I live in FL and these were the biggest I've ever seen!) All the food was delicious! We did think that the steaks stood out. I will go back here to pick up dessert some time soon. This, to me, is..... quite frankly one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in my life. And you don't even have to dress up for it. I've tried Rye a few times- well about 6-8 times over a few years. On the Plaza breakfast & brunch seem to be great. Dinner was a bit of a mess 3 times we've visited. They price is high for what we get- filet, chicken pot pie, fried chicken and caesar salad. Filet- good but super expensive Fried chicken- average nothing super good for the price Chicken pot pie- I could've been great but the veg were not cooked, temp warm to cool and not enough bag for the buck. Caesar salad- ok but a bit "warm" Goat cheese apps- wonderful Deviled eggs- very good Wings- meh Confetti cheesecake- ok Special fancy drink w/gin- I forget the name- great I've tried dinner enough at this place. Always a favorite. The ambiance, dessert and drinks are probably my favorite parts of this local restaurant. There's a farm chíc feel inside. Classy, yet casual at he same time. The handcrafted cocktails and array of beers are also delicious. The homemade pie, is BOMB! The food is good too! I've had a variety of items at Rye. This last time, I had the heirloom tomato salad and burger. Others at my table had the peel and eat shrimp, fried chicken and ribs. Unfortunately, by the time we finished dinner, we were too full for dessert! The banana cream pie though, is one of my favorite desserts in KC. We held a family dinner here in their private room after my grandma's memorial and had an amazing experience! Our room had a designated waiter who was so attentive. He actually stayed in the room the entire time we were there to take drink orders and make sure that we were taken care of. Since i'm pregnant and can't drink, the bartender made me the prettiest mocktail with a flower in it! It was so special. Everyone raved about their REAL cocktails as well. We had a set menu that included a delicious fresh salad, choice from 3 entrees, and a yummy dessert! The salad was so light and refreshing, I loved it! They also serve a basket of bread and biscuits to go with it. For my entree, I chose their beef tenderloin with the creamiest and BEST mashed potatoes that i've ever had. It also came with some veggies. The meat was flavorful and tender. I couldn't get over how amazing this dish was. I was told that they are famous for their fried chicken so I had a taste of my husband's and that too was pretty tasty. They also have delicious house made pickles that I enjoyed. For dessert, I chose the banana cream pie but at that point, I was stuffed from the dinner! I did take a few bites and it was the perfect ending on my palette. All in all, the private room was PERFECT for our group and would make an amazing space for a rehearsal dinner or meeting. They even have AV options if you are having a meeting. The goat cheese appetizer was tasty but a little one dimensional. The burnt end hash I found a little disappointing. The dish was undersalted, the sauce wasn't terribly flavorful, and the potatoes were well cooked but could have been more crispy/browned. Portions were pretty large. I brought clients here for a business dinner and we were all very impressed. We had a cozy booth at the front of the dining room. We couldn't decide which was better, the food or the service! For appetizers we tried the whipped goat cheese as well as a unique and impressive selection of charcuterie on the butcher board. They were definitely appetizing! For dinner we all had mouthwatering steaks cut and cooked perfectly and a couple others ordered Walleye which I can't wait to try now! The wine selection was impressive and our server expertly helped us select the perfect bottles for the table. My clients were very grateful that I brought them to Rye. Our server was a super sweet tall brunette woman around 30 years old. It was the most professional, genuine, and attentive service I have ever had and she said it was only her second day on the floor!
