The food is probably close to 4 stars, but everything about this place seems disorganized and overcrowded. I've tried to place a takeout order using the phone # listed here on yelp, which is the same as on the google listing. It goes to a answering machine after 4 rings, which tells you to leave your number if you want to do a group event. I went in person a couple of weeks ago. There was no reservation stand. Nobody seemed to know how to get seated. We flagged a waiter down who through a game of telephone taking 10 minutes managed to communicate our request for a table to somebody. Do they not believe in having a host or hostess? Was that person just not there that night? I guess I'll never know. We finally had the burrata appetizer, which was good, maybe better than ordinary for Jersey, but average for a new school Italian place in NYC. We also had the Flama pizza, very good except for the odd choice to drizzle honey over it, which in my mind clashed with the sopressata. I still don't know how people in other reviews placed takeout orders. Smoke signals? Telepathy? They were very crowded so they must be doing well, good for them, so I guess they won't miss my business. read more

What a place, everything you want about pizza you will get. We were in the mood for pizza and we were in a rush. We popped in and ordered the Margarita Pie and sat down, they brought us water and our pizza! Our pizza came out in two minutes maybe even less. It came out steaming, and looking beautiful-the cheese distribution was perfect the sauce was just the right amount, not too much to make it soggy but enough so you got some in each bite. To touch on the cheese for a minute, forget about the cheese to sauce ratio or the perfect dollops of mozzarella around the pizza, the taste was incredible. It tasted fresh as you can get, milky, creamy and slightly chewy as it got melted but still held some of its integrity. The slice held itself up without limping or looking sad and the bottom was crispy, light and airy. 9/10 pie the only thing it had wrong was that there was no basil on it, in my book that's a must. Solid place, great service, efficient and the perfect spot for a first date. read more

S. Edition is a fun, casual restaurant offering exceptional food for the prices. We went last night with friends and the experience couldn't have been nicer. First off, expect a wait during peak hours. While don't take reservations, you you are able to walk around a beautiful neighborhood during your wait. The pizzas are fabulous, piping hot and fresh out of the brick oven. I ordered a skillet 22oz ribeye steak cooked to perfection in their brick oven. It melted in my mouth. Yes, as some of the negative reviews stated there definitely is favoritism toward locals and friends of the arrogant owner. If you're "in" you'll get seated faster regardless of reservations. As some other guests stated, the food is nothing special, soggy pizza and what seems to be a mass produced tomato sauce. They try to make it look authentic by importing 2 cooks from Italy? that can't respond to you because they don't speak english? Maybe they're not from Italy??? Who knows..... Pricing adds up fast with their $20 + appetizers. As also mentioned by a reviewing guest the tables are too close to each other. In addition, watching the bus boy wipe the tables down after the guests leave consisted of 1 or 2 squirts of the water bottle, (if there was actually anything else but water in it), the same dirty cloth over and over even wiping the seats off and then the table after. Disgusting. I watched him do this on several tables over a period of 20 minutes. Then I saw the owner dining with what looked like some relatives and the "new" girl trying to impress I suppose playing the big-shot. I don't know where he gets off acting like that. I would have much preferred a humble owner that was nice to his guests. But I guess when you're in the construction business and lease a restaurant you are the MAN ! Throw a cigar in your mouth ! You "made" it my friend. Enough said.... Done with this place. Go to Brooklyn pizza a couple of blocks over. The food gets 5 stars!!! the atmosphere is also great as well but I couldn't give the full five stars because of how tight the place is. I normally love busy places for a night out and I was still able to enjoy myself 100% but it is just a little TOO tight. The staff does help seat you and pull out the chair you'll wiggle in to sit at right next to another couple, which again, I don't mind but you can feel the cramped-ness, that is until you get your amazing food! The pizza was outrageously delicious! The crust had that perfect crispy bite to the outside while the inside, although soft and moist not doughy (which I find is difficult to do with this style Neapolitan pizza these days). They go above and beyond with their ingredients as well. Their prosciutto was decadent and their artichokes and olives were nothing short of 5 star quality (not that garbage canned crap you get now-a-days). BYOB which is a huge plus. The service was good, nothing outrageous. I don't hesitate to make this my go-to pizza place. They make their food with love and highest quality ingredients for sure. Anyway, I understand why people go here regardless of the tight atmosphere, there food is done RIGHT which is reason why I will be back as well! read more

The best restaurant by far in NJ. The organic fresh food was so needed around here. They use no yeast in there pizza dough so you don't feel miserable like 95% of all the pizza around here. The chef is straight off the boat. I was told they don't have a phone number and take out menus purposely. They want a true family environment without phones ringing and going wild while people eat. The food was fine, and the" purple potato pizza special" was delicious! We were told 30/40 minute wait so we went for a drink close-by but got a call 15 minutes later to say our table was ready. They said we needed to be back in 10 minutes which made it tough to finish our drinks and settle up the check. We rushed our drinks and got back to S. Egidio as quick as we could, and we enjoyed our meal and deserts. But shortly after finishing out deserts we were politely asked to leave as our table was needed. If you are looking for Napolitano Pizza - then this is the place to go in Ridgewood. I am just surprised that I didn't try this place before the "a mano" a block away. The place is small but plenty of seating and cozy ambiance. They have both indoors and outdoors seating. The pizza is cooked in 900 degrees oven and comes out very quickly. I recommend the margarita. They also have a great selection of drinks. We ordered a pitcher of Sangaria and it hit the spot. read more

Ridgewood is full of places to eat, the hard part is finding which ones to revisit. S. Egidio is one of those places. I've been here a few times now and each time I've found myself raving over their menu. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, which is a huge plus, especially since the restaurant is always packed. I love when a restaurant's staff acts like they want you to be there, it only adds to the already pleasant atmosphere of the establishment. It's always a challenge finding a restaurant that I can eat freely at, given my food allergies. I was even able to eat their delicious pizza, minus the cheese, which is actually the first pizza I've had in at least 10 years. The pizzas: waited 70 minutes for them. Not worth the wait. The waiting staff: I don't know why you'd hire such big guys to work such a tiny place. They say "excuse me" more than they wait on tables. Our waiter 100% forgot our order because all later tables got their order ahead of us. When I questioned him, he said he would check the status. He came back a minute later saying "what were the pizzas you ordered?" I couldn't even remember my order an hour later!!!! Then he acted like he knew the order after we told him. We went to S. Edigio for a nice dinner on a casual Tuesday. When we arrived there was plenty of room inside and out. We opted to sit inside. The restaurant is rustically decorated and had a brick pizza oven in the middle. For appetizer, we opted to take the anti pasti platter. It had cold cuts served w bread sticks and honey. The breadsticks seemed like they were from a bag and the size was a little small for the price. Quality of the cold cuts was good. For entree we shared a pizza which was baked in the scorching oven. The pizza we got was not evenly baked one side seemed right while the other a little underdone - or maybe vice Versa depending on your preference. We finally got the tiramisu dessert which was excellent. All in all, a solid place with good overall food but an uneven quality and low value on the appetizer. Pizza was great - hot and fresh but a tad small. We even had dessert. Should have gotten the nutella calzone, It looked amazing. I had the tiramisu. It was ok. We went early and sat outside enjoying the brief good weather. There were people waiting after we sat as the place doesn't take reservation. BYOB and the service was terrific too. DUDEEEEEEE... A Mano's is lucky to have their BOGO Free Pizza pie night on Mondays and Tuesdays, otherwise, you'd straight up bankrupt them! Though I think A Mano's has better prosciutto (though it's fun to watch the guys slice up the meat with a mechanical wheel at S. Egidio) and signature pie (A Mano Special), this place is, without a doubt, the best pizzeria in town. Why? They offer better pies overall, and their regular margherita is SO much better. MUCH better service. And they also have better food offerings, even their calamari starter. So worth the money. Additionally, bomb music to complement the meal. Pizza in New Jersey might be very good, but if you've been to Italy, you will be spoiled. True Italian pizza is in a class by itself. If you are searching for what is probably the best, and most authentic rendition of REAL pizza, then you must try S. Egidio in Ridgewood. The menu is limited but there are multiple salad and hot and cold appetizer selections, as well as a nightly pasta special- all prepared exactly like you'd find in Naples or Rome. The place is tiny, so come early or be prepared to wait - but that wait is well worth it. It is also a BYOB and the prices are very reasonable. The staff is charming and there is Italian conversation throughout the restaurant. Truly a little bit of the old country transplanted to New Jersey. I'll be back, many times. I was sitting with a bottle of wine with my wife and the bus boy (not even our waiter) came by every 5 minutes to ask if we were finished with our $25 dollar cheese plate. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and was seated right away. I love the decor of this place it's very rustic. We ordered the homemade mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto cooked in the oven. This was delicious and tasty. Main course I order a white pie with sausage, cherry tomatoes and arugula. I thought the pie was good but not great. I really loved the dough more than anything but was not crazy about the actual pie. My husband had the special which was the white pie with eggs, bacon and mushrooms. He thought this pie was good but again nothing great. The ingredients are all super fresh so I can't really put my finger as to why I do not love their pies as much. Oh man. We wanted to try this place FOREVER since seeing it on Boozy Burbs (good Insta follow, BTW) and it was well worth the wait. The food and atmosphere were fantastic but there were some service blips so it's not quite 5 stars- yet. Let's start with the good- the food. Our group of six wanted to order the entire menu, and we came pretty close. They offer a daily selections of meats and cheeses from Italy, some grilled or fresh appetizers, and a bunch of salads. We started with a squid special- just tender squid simply done in the oven with oil and herbs. Also had the burrata- which others have mentioned came with a healthy heaping of prosciutto- I would've like more of that creamy burrata though :) The "sushi" is a clever play on Italian meet and cheese wrapped up into a roll- a little corny but tasted good. The sopressata- thinly sliced and topped with arugula and parm. One of the versions of octopus- fashioned into a loaf and thinly sliced drizzled with olive oil. Tasty and pretty presentation. We split three pizzas- a special of pulled pork, Italian style- with rosemary and onions. This was the table favorite. Also had the Fiamma- hot sausage with honey- a really surprising and interesting contrast. I don't remember the name of the artichoke and other veggie one but it was sparsely topped and forgettable. Skip. Overall the pizza was thin, chewy, with a nice smoky char from the wood oven. The fresh mozzarella and sweet tomato sauce rounded out a great pie. Luckily we saved room for dessert. It seems like everyone does a Nutella pizza these days- this time it was a calzone which allowed for more Nutella inside. It was hot and gooey and fantastic but maybe would've been elevated with some chopped hazelnuts, berries, or bananas? Just a thought. They had a house made tiramisu which I would not skip- very delicate, tender, with great coffee and cocoa flavors. I forget the name of their espresso/cream concoction but our friends loved theirs. The staff was really friendly and personable. They accommodated us surprisingly quickly for a larger party in a small space on a Saturday night. There were just a few little blips that definitely could use improvement- not sure if they're working out kinks or what. We had to wait several times for plates/napkins/knives/forks after our food was brought out. I guess that's a compliment to the food and a ding to the service because we couldn't wait to eat it! Also, for a group of six, they were really insistent on giving up appetizers in quantities of five and cutting the pizza in slices of four. I might seem picky but it would be a seamless and pleasant experience for everything to be divvied up evenly. Looking forward to many trips back and hopefully adding that last star :) read more

Best pizza in the area! I came here on two occasions, their grand opening night and a month after. The staff here is really friendly and helpful if you have any questions. I had my waiter translate a lot of the Italian words on the menu for our table. The pizza is fresh and not over filling. It's a typical neapolitan sized pizza. I can't recall the names of the pizza we ordered, but one had prosciutto on it and the other had sausage if I remember correctly. The pizza dough is not soggy at all. For appetizers we ordered the grilled zucchini stacked with mozzarella and the octopus carpaccio. Both were good, but you aren't necessarily missing on anything if you don't order these apps. I've met the owner on both occasions dining here and he's a really nice guy and it shows that he cares. As with any new restaurant on the block, there are some kinks that need to be worked out. When I dined here the second time, there was a wait, so the owner took my name down and told us it would only be 20 minutes. The wait ended up being an hour. I usually don't mind waiting for a table a little longer than the time that I am told, but there was no apology for the extended wait. The prices here are reasonable. A pizza pie will run you roughly $12-$18 depending on the toppings. There's no reservations here, so be prepared to wait if you show up around 7pm on the weekend. BYO. read more

Friendly servers, great food. Haven't had great pasta like S.Egidio offers, in a while...at this price. Friend and I were looking at a 45 minute wait but managed to skip the line by agreeing to eat in murder alley next to the restaurant. Small and cozy place, crowded on a Saturday night, didn't mind the wait wanted to see what is so great about there pizza. Visually, watching all the pizza's come out looked so delicious, but unfortunately when mine came out, my Margarita pizza tasted like just bread. I didn't taste any sauce or cheese, all I tasted and paid for was just light and fluffy but delicious bread. Maybe next time I will order a different kind of pizza with hopefully some flavor.
