This is a well-hidden gem in the Sacramento area and a spot you should put on your list. They have a great menu that offers something for everyone. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It has a hole-in-the-wall type of warmth that I love (bring your own Sharpie so that you may write on the wall) with the food to match.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is super helpful so if you have any questions about the menu, do not be afraid to ask. Everything was tasty and very good but, out of everything, the star of the show for me was the cheese tteok-boki. Probably the best tteok-boki I've had here--texture of the rice cakes was perfect and there was a smokiness that I can't describe but just know it was divine. We ordered so much food but there was still so much I wanted to try. Will be coming back here again and again and again!
A classic Korean staple in Sacramento! Looks like they've gone under new management in the last few years but I'm glad their recipes haven't changed. I think they have the best seafood pancake and spicy chicken. In all my years coming here (at least 15 years), I've probably only tried about a quarter of their menu but no complaints on them. Everything is always delicious but I tend to stick to my classics of the spicy chicken, seafood pancake, bulgolgi, Bossam, or tofu soup to name a few.
So glad I tried this place despite the avg ratings! I read the latest reviews and decided to try--they are spot on. Great food--we had bulgogi, japchae, ttekboki, and fried chicken wings -- all were delicious!! Came with purple rice--which has a more nutty flavor, healthier too I think. Service was great, the waiter was attentive--they accommodated my shellfish allergy too! (Just heads up that most kimchi has shrimp paste in case you're allergic!) [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place reminds me of Koreatown restaurants in LA and the food was up there too! Love the writings on the wall, it gave an authentic feel[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would definitely come back to try more!
Good service and Korean food. Got the spicy sweet fried chicken, seafood pancake, and spicy tofu soup with beef. Everything was good, but they're skimpy on the protein in their foods. The seafood pancake didn't have much seafood in it. Normally there's squid, shrimp, and I believe another seafood? But this time, there were barely any bits of shrimp from a few pieces. Almost forgot it was a seafood pancake because mainly just saw and tasted egg and veggies. For a $24 seafood pancake, I would hope to have a bite of seafood in every piece. The tofu soup didn't have much beef in it either. Food is good, just hope they don't skimp on the protein again.
I recently dined at this restaurant with a group of four people and noticed an 18% service charge added to our bill. Unfortunately, this fee was not clearly disclosed in advance. If it was mentioned, it was not visible or noticeable to customers before ordering. I understand that restaurants may apply service charges, but they should be clearly and transparently communicated. Adding a significant fee without clear notice feels misleading and unfair to customers. I wasn't clearly informed about the service charge before ordering. Loved my experience! The staff were super welcoming and greeted us right away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were able to sit down right away, and enjoy the baseball game on the tv which was a plus.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Loved the ambiance of the place as well, it was so comforting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was amazing. All our hot dishes came out sizzling and timely served. I definitely recommend trying the tteokbokki, the sweet and spicy wings and the soondubu. I will be back:)
Korean restaurants have come and gone in this area but Sa Rang Bang remains one of my favorites for over a decade. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's tiny, it's cozy, and not much has changed over the years, but the food remains delicious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came for an early dinner yesterday as soon as they opened. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like how private the booths feel, although some might think it feels crowded. But it's just perfect for parties of 1-4.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came in mainly wanting soondubu but ended up ordering 4 dishes...never a bad thing to have some delicious leftovers! Bulgogi- always a must here! It's tender and nicely cooked, and comes on a sizzling plate which keeps it nice and warm. Omurice- this was our first time ordering this dish here. It's not the traditional Japanese kind and I wish the egg was fluffier but it was a very pretty dish and definitely a good one for sharing. Kimchi pancake- very generous portion size! It's so flavorful and not overly spicy at all, which big chunks of green onion. Beef soondubu- could have been spicier and they didn't ask what kind of spice level we wanted, but not sure if they just assumed mild because we had the kids with us. But overall it really satisfied our soondubu craving on this gloomy day!
This is my favorite korean restaurant! I haven't been here in years but they still have the best seafood pancakes. We were finally able to visit and so we ordered so many dishes but they all came out pretty quickly. We ate seafood pancakes, beef tofu soup, spicy fried chicken, kimchi fried rice and tteok-bokii. Everything was so delicious!! I'm not a fan of tteok-boki but husband loves it and their's was actually pretty bomb! The sauce was thick and flavorful with cheese and hotdog pieces. The server was also attentive, coming by to check on us from time to time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is a gem, giving off that little korean hometown vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm glad it hasn't changed!
This is one of those spots you only come across every now and then. It's a rare occasion that you find a restaurant with a vibe like this one. Me and my friends were craving Korean bbq but we had a recommendation to try this spot. It is almost hidden from the outside but when you go inside you are kindly greeted by the staff. The benches and walls are all tagged up by previous customers and it gives it a homey ambiance. We ordered some Korean beer recommended by the server and it was light and crisp so it didn't fill us up too much. The food was so good that I only took a picture of the chicken wings! I forgot to take pictures of everything else but I'll compensate with a review. Spicy chicken wings - we got the whole chicken cut up and it was delicious. It wasn't super breaded and crunchy like other fried chicken but with the flavorful sauce it didn't need to be at all. 8/10 Kimchi Pancake - this thing came out massive looking like a cheese pizza. It's paired with a tangy dipping sauce which is great but I like it just by itself. If you enjoy kimchi you must try this. 9/10 Bulgogi - There wasn't much special about this dish because personally, bulgogi is never amazing but it was still necessary to get! 8/10 Next time going to try the galbi. Raw marinated crab- nobody in my group has ever tried this so we decided to give it a go. The waitress gave us gloves to eat it with and made sure we didn't eat the shell because we thought that's how it was done. It was like nothing we ever tried before. Super soft, spicy and flavorful. Definitely recommend if you are feeling adventurous. 10/10
Everytime we go we've tried something different plus some of our usual faves and it never disappoints. Our usuals are Tteokbokki with rice cakes,cheese, ramen noodles and sausages has the perfect chew in every bite and cheese pull is phenomenal. Spicy Seafood tofu soup is great for rainy days. If you like a good crunch their seafood pancake is one of my favorites along with the fried chicken with the spicy sauce on the side. The restaurant itself is small, but gives a warm and cozy ambiance. Hole in the wall experience. The best part is that they close pretty late in the night. They also serve great selection of soju and beer.
Love this place!!! The food was amazing. I've been looking for a good Korean spot that has spicy raw marinated crab. I once tried raw crab before in SoCal and didn't like it, but I wanted to so bad and had to give it another try. I'm glad I did cause this place didn't disappoint and I now like it! Another favorite was the bibimap and spicy sausage/rice cake IMO. I ate the bibimap as a left over and it was still fireeee. Although I do wish the spot was a little bigger as its a very small place. We were able to fit our party of 6 but anything more than that, might have to be separate tables so just keep thay in mind.
We returned to Sa Rang Bang after a long time away and it was still as great as we remembered, but with A+ service this time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were three adults and a toddler, and they had high chairs that fit nicely in the booth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We used to go to Sa Rang Bang often as we lived in Rosemont when we first moved to Sacramento, so this was a nice trip down memory lane. The food as always is excellent. We've ordered takeout from here, and there is a difference. You have to eat in! The food just tastes so much better hot. The only thing I would say is that it was really warm, and getting a stew made it hotter. However, it's definitely worth it. Makes the experience more authentic.

BE AWARE!! They charge service fee to a party of 4 or more to your original receipt (Yup, that's right 4..) They do not advertise this (I had to clarify if service fee was considered tip. It was.). It's very deceptive because when you sign for your credit card receipt they ask you how much you want to tip on top of the already added tip. Essentially tricking you into double tipping for a party of 4 with sub experience. Seating: We had a party of 4. We were planning to order a lot of food but where we sat there was not a lot of room. We asked for a larger table that was empty but they said it's reserved for parties of 5 or more (this is new, we use to get to sit where we want but understandable since this is a small restaurant). We an ordered total of 7 dishes and the small table definitely felt cramped. There's already no elbow room in the seats. Ambience: There's no AC just a fan. It was hot in there and it wasn't because of the spicy food neither. Written stuff on wall was cute though. Service: there's only one person maintaining the front of the house so service may be slow, Which led to him missing some items in our meal. However, he was kind and apologetic.(understandable since they probably expected to be slow on a Tuesday night -- It was not). Food: side dishes use to be more than 6-10. But now there's 4 unimpressive side dishes. Also, they got rid of the roasted corn/barley water! So you just get plain water now. Food portion size is a lot smaller than what it use to be while the price of each entree is of a fancy restaurant. This place use to be the spot, but I think it's because post COVID that the quality for price of the food is no longer makes this place worth it. It's better to just go to an all you can eat Korean BBQ. EDIT: Apparently it's under new management. A friend took me here to experience authentic Korean Food. The place is in a rundown strip mall in a so so area of town so don't be surprised to see odd characters in the area. This spot would be perfect for Diners Drives and Dives qualifying under the "Dive" classification lol. My friend did all the ordering so I really don't know any names but I will attempt to describe the dishes. We had: mussel soup, seafood crepe, spicy chicken, Galbi and cold buckwheat noodles. Everything was good with my favorite being the seafood crepe. The only thing I did not like were the cold buckwheat noodles. Service was slow but friendly. They are short staffed like most places these days. If your craving some Korean food give this place a try. read more
Came right when they opened. Yang yum chicken: this dish was over cooked to the point where the bones became edible and hard to eat! The server suggested sauce on the side and we agreed. Even with that suggestion the sauce couldn't save this dish. 1 star out of 5 Seafood pancake: delicious and packed with fresh seafood and veggies the dipping sauce is great as well! Goes great with the texture of the pancake. 4 /5 Pork jiggae: was looking forward to this dish but the pork that came with it was cube into tiny pieces idk what happened there the flavors was great but it needed the big chunks of pork. 3/5 Steamed Mandoo: I ain't gonna lie they taste like the bibimgoo you get at Costco! Idk if that is true I was disappointed on how small they were. The flavors was also lacking very bland. read more

We have been going here for at least 10 years and were in for a shock when we came in last. Their prices have gone up but the quality has gone down. Customer service has never been that great here but their amazing food always made up for it before. From reviews, I've read that they're under new management. Hopefully the new management can get it together and restore Sa Rang Bang to it's former glory. read more

Craving Korean late into the night? This restaurant is open til midnight and serves delicious Korean food! The Daeji Bulgogi & Spicy Chicken was really tasty and not too spicy. The dumplings were a great appetizer as well. The sides are always complimentary and pairs great with any entrees you order! The prices are pricey but the food will always satiate your cravings every time. There's not too many tables in there but it's also not as busy. What's nice about this place you have your own cubical table space so it can feel intimate/private with the person(s) you're eating with. The server was also attentive and often catering to our needs. read more
Bomb dot com! I came here with a friend after a long day on a random Tuesday. This is such a cute mom and pop shop. It's hidden, but the food makes the place shine. Side dishes were fresh and delicious! My favorite were the pasta salad and the broccoli. We ordered the following dishes: 1. Rick Cake: Nice spice to it. You can never go wrong with this. Sooo good! 2. Kimchi Fried Rice: That was our favorite! I love mixing the egg yolk into it. 3. Beef Soup: I loved the shredded beef and bean sprouts. It pains me to leave a 3 star review BUT you must know it is because they changed ownership and the old owner no longer work / cook there :( Food tasted different and they don't have seafood pancake ?! (They said it is because they are out of green onion) Also please check your bill as they add on service charge on the bill without telling you .. and to go box fee read more
When we came they sat us down in the corner, so we may have been forgotten a bit. But we waited about 15 minutes to get menus upon sitting down. Then an additional 15 minutes or so for us to order our food. I asked for my soup extra spicy and they delivered! I was very happy with that. They gave us a small bowl of purple rice as well. The food was overall pretty good, but the service was quite slow due to the lack of staff. I believe there were only about 2-3 people working that day. read more

This review is based on our first time trying this place tonight. We ordered the following: galbi beef, kimchi fried rice, and fried potstickers. The beef was delicious and tender (and for $31 I am sure glad it was)! The kimchi fried rice was my favorite; tons of kimchi and super moist and fresh! My husband agreed the kimchi was his favorite too! The potstickers were good, but nothing unique about them. The food all looked super fresh and they even put love into the way they packaged the to-go containers. So, definitely try them if you haven't! read more

My husband and I came here on a Saturday around 6 pm. Please note that they are not open on Sundays. The restaurant is in a residential/shopping area with a decent amount of parking. Upon entering, it was a bit hot. I do wish the air conditioning had been a little more strong as I was sweating. I had been dying to try their hamburg steak with salad. But alas that was no longer on the menu. I wish the menu online had been updated as well as their prices because all of that was different from online. Prices were $10-12 a meal online, upon seeing the menu at the restaurant it had dry erase marker to show the new, higher prices. It's getting tough out there. So, I opted for the shrimp katsu which they didn't have. Finally settled on donkatsu because it's classic and always delicious. Food was delicious, service was attentive, and the place was clean and had a fun, youthful, kpop vibe. I am really starting to notice the food and drink shortages lately and I really miss many menu items. It's tough times and hope for the best for this restaurant as it is yummy. My friends and I love coming to Sa Rang Bang for their tteokbokki with cheese & ramen noodles!! Their tteokbokki is very yummy and makes me feel comforted :) Their banchan is small, but delicious. It would be nice to have more variety, but the selection they have is good in quality. We also ordered the galbi which is always delicious. It can be a bit pricey to eat here, so it's a nice treat to have not too often x) I highly recommend! read more
The interior of this restaurant is one of my favorites. It has an old fashioned feel and I love it. Ordered the Ttuk bae gi cheese and Dolsot bibimbap with beef and a side of rice. They gave a wide variety of sides. The ttuk bae gi was chewy and a good amount of cheesy but sweeter than I expected. The bibimbap was delicious too but not the best I've had. Even though we came at dinner and the restaurant looked very busy we were seated immediately and given an adequate amount of time to order. Our food also came out incredible quick. Would recommend if you're craving some Korean food. Food is alright but I'd come back again for the interior. read more

I love the atmosphere at this restaurant! It seems like a very homey place and it's decorated in a way that feels like I'm outside in Korea eating street food with friends. The customer service was very amazing and food came very fast and they kept refilling our water very fast. We got three different dishes and all of them were incredible! They had barley tea with ice and it was so yummy (so refreshing during the heat too) and the side dishes were simple and just the right amount. My fav was Bibim neng byun (cold noodles with special spicy sauce). The noodles were very chewy and refreshing despite the spicy sauce and it was topped with cucumbers and other veggies. We got the gal bi tang (beef short rib soup) and it was very savory and light at the same time (the perfect mixture honestly). It was also topped with an egg and the short ribs were very yummy and easy to eat. Lastly, we got the chicken wings which used mochi flour so they were so crispy and chewy (and cooked so perfectly!!!). Not sure why they didn't get more amazing reviews, but I really loved this place. read more
Worth the try: seafood pancake, army stew, golbossam Seafood pancake: thoroughly fried, battered pancake with seafood and green onion fillings. I especially loved how theirs had a breadcrumb coating whereas other places can be more on the mushy side. Army stew: huge pot of noodles in a mild red broth, comes with ramen, glass noodles, kimchi, spam, sausage. Golbossam: pork slices served with cabbage and a mixture of spicy vegetables and oysters. Supposed to be eaten as a wrap. Tip: try the yogurt soju! Finally got to try this spot after catching a movie in the evening. This is a great restaurant for late night comfort food, but be warned: the shop is small and gets packed quickly, so you may be waiting even at odd hours of the day. I didn't expect much, especially since there isn't too much Korean food in Sacramento, but I was pleased by all the dishes we ordered. I love this place! The atmosphere here is the typical Korean bar. Each table is enclosed in its area with wooden boards separating you from the next booth. The great thing about these wooden boards is that you can tell it wasn't placed because of COVID, all of these boards have writings all over them and you can find some from 5+ years ago. The only downside is that the boards make it a little hard for the waiters to see that you need help but that will only bring out the inner Korean in you when you have to shout 'ahjusshi!' from across the room. The food here is great, my personal favorite is the seafood pancake! This place has the crispiest seafood pancake that I have ever seen before. I highly recommend trying the seafood pancake here! We also tried the pork belly with sesame leaf and the fermented bean soup. Both were super flavorful and great. The side dishes here were average, some of the banchan tasted a little stiff or stale, but they're free and come with the food, so I can't complain. I would come back here another night to try the flavored sojus along with other Korean bar treats. read more

Many of the reviews commented about the rather unusual customer service, how it's poor, or uncalled for, etc. I honestly don't care for any of that. When it comes to food, I only care about the food. My mind gets clouded when riddled with hunger and I just need food to fuel my mind and soul. As long as my orders are right, I'm good. Therefore... The place delivers some packin' punchin' seafood pancakes. They are holy smokin' wow! The plumpest pancakes I've ever seen. I think it was worth the money. Filled me up more than the entree I got (bibimbap). Though bibimbap was average. But what bibimbap could be terrible? 7/10 Also got YukGaEjang. Not as hearty as I thought it would be, but overall, good. 7/10 All the portion sizes were pretty decent. If searching for a late night snack with dim setting, here's your place. read more

TteokBokki with cheese- literally my favorite on the menu! It's so tasty and just so darn good. It's like comfort food for me. If I'm craving korean food that's savory and cheesy, this is the place I go to for tteokbokki. The texture of the rice cake can be slightly different each time you go, as I've experienced. Some more tender than others, some softer and more chewy. Personally, I don't mind that as it doesn't change the overall taste of the food for me. This place is a nice casual joint to eat at with your friends. Plus is that it's open late, so this place can be your late-night dinner spot if you get hungry after 10pm read more

Sarangbang has been a part of my cravings for over 10 years now. Every month I tell my partner "I NEED sarangbang" and of course he makes it a priority to take me the next time we get a chance! I always get the chicken with the spicy red sauce on the side, seafood pancake always hits!!!, and then the squid mixed veggies. Ive also got other things like the galbi, pork belly, and tofu soup but they're not as memorable as the first 3 I mentioned. When you first walk in, it's very small and each area is kind of secluded where you can't see other customers when seated. It very much gives Korea! As for service there are days where they're so nice and other days they don't care for you but will give you what you ask for so it all really depends. Hopefully you get lucky!!! I'm giving 4 stars due to service. I HATE even giving 4 stars to local businesses because I think about how they have a family at home and they're trying to just make it in life too but I'm going to give it because they definitely need to work on customer service! You can mess up on my food a few times and I'll be understanding but kindness is the way to go in my book so 4 stars! read more
