Then I found Sacramento Valley Wild Life Services. They charged $495 as initial service fee that according to the agreement covered inspection, trap set up and removal. They sent a young woman (looked like a teenager). she barely talked, didn't inspect our property, and put 2 cages in random places (we have more than 25 tunnels along our foundation). in 10 days nothing has been trapped. The only things that they caught were ants, lots of ants. so now we don't only have a squirrel problem, we have an ant problem. They gave us good advice to watch the snake from afar while they were in route to remove it. Everyone was very pleasant, but the inspection was completely worthless. The tech insisted there was no way for rodents to get into my attic and that the sounds I was hearing must be on the roof. (Note that the tech refused to actually look in the attic, even after I asked him to -- inspection was done completely from the ground outside.) In the five months since then we have pulled out 15 rats and mice caught in traps we set in the attic and found (and fixed) 3 entrances to the attic. He still pulled up the traps wanting to charge me to start the process all over again. The first week he caught nothing, because he didn't place them in the right tunnels. The tech wasn't the brightest after some of the questions presented to us- he was confused on what area to place the traps and I thought to myself- wait, you're supposed to be the knowledgeable one here, not me! I am so very happy with the service that Bryce and Paul provided. Our dog was skunked last month in our backyard but we thought it was just passing through. Two weeks later one sprayed under our house in the crawl space I woke up to a terrible smell. My hubby is on a trip for two weeks so I was pretty much on my own to deal with this and I am in my 70s so it really stressed me out. I called Sacramento Valley Wildlife and left a message on a Sunday at about 4am. I got a call back from Bryce by 8am and by 10am I had a trap set. Paul, the technician, took his time explaining everything to me and showed me how to open the trap and reset it in case I wanted to release an animal. Ended up I caught several squirrels and a stray cat which I was able to release. Paul came back several times and replenished the bait in the trap while I waited to catch the skunk. Two nights ago I caught one. I called Bryce and left a VM at 5am. By 9am the skunk had been removed and a new trap set. Last night at 1am I caught another one. I left a VM at 1am for Bryce and by 6am he had let me know the technician will be coming this morning. This company is very professional and very helpful. Bryce understood how stressed I was about this and was patient and kind during the whole process. I do intend to set a trap tonight, just in case. He even sent me a video on opening and resetting the trap which was very helpful when I caught the cat. As for price, they are very reasonably priced. I am giving two stars because they are very pleasant to work with but in our experience, failed in getting the job done. We had two skunks under our house and in 11 days, we only caught a mouse and a cat. Our house was stinking so bad. We were desperate and received the response of "hang in there." I felt like there was no way a skunk could out smart a trap for 11 days unless there was a different issue of trap placement, enticing treats, etc. Especially since we had video of them out and about on a very consistent basis at night. I contacted another wildlife company and within 7 hours of the new company setting the trap, we caught a skunk. The second one was caught only a couple of days after that. While their prices are on the lower end, it appears you get what you pay for. They also will only set one trap, unless you pay for an additional trap. read more

On December 17th at 12:30am a skunk sprayed under our house, permeating up and was so bad it made my eyes water and my nose run. I was unable to sleep, so at 1:05am I emailed Shala Shores (who we used previously). She responded before 8:00am and we had traps set before 11:00am. We wind up catching two skunks the next night, two more the following night and in total we wind up catching 7 skunks living in our crawl space. In addition to trapping, Shala assisted in us getting our crawl space door replaced and fixed to ensure future critters are not able to enter. Two days in a row this company has placed skunk traps outside my building and then let the trapped skunks sit in the rain and cold for hours and hours. They seemed to think it was fine because the traps were covered with cardboard, but cardboard doesn't stay on in these winds and even when it does it's not exactly adequate weather protection. The skunks were desperately trying to escape the traps and then they would get exhausted and collapsed to the ground, shivering and hyper ventilating. Then I found out they are euthanizing the animals instead of relocating them. So currently we have baby skunks living under our building and each of their parents have been trapped, tortured, and killed. I don't understand how a company can bill themselves as being humane while putting animals through this kind of cruelty. read more

On our farm, during this season of young wild birds learning to fly, many die falling from nests and during their first flight experiences. My dog has brought back many small bird carcasses, but the other day he brought me a bird in his mouth and laid it in the ground in front of me, alive. It was traumatized and too young try fend for itself. I know basic animal and bird care, and set it up temporarily recuperating, but I looked for someone with more knowledge after that. A friend suggested this place, and of we went. I was very impresses with everything about this organization. It is run by a volunteer board and utilizes volunteers they train to care for all kinds of wild animals and birds. They exist entirely on the volunteers and donations, receive no government funding, and are certified to work with wild animals. The volunteer at the intake area run detailed information about the bird I brought in and assured me he would be with others of his age, and would be released when he has mastered the skills necessary for survival. Simmering else arrived while I was there, and two more people arrived I left, without more birds and animals. I intend to donate to this worthy organization! read more

I called Sacramento Valley Wildlife services to remove a skunk from under our deck. They responded and came quickly, placing two traps in the yard. That said, they made little to no effort to ensure the skunk(s) was lured into the trap other than with some bait. I captured video of the skunk easily bypassing the trap. It wasn't until I bought some plywood and created a funnel leading to the trap was it captured. They came back and disposed of the skunk in their truck without smell. read more

For several years squirrels have been attacking our garden furniture cushions for nesting material, and I've been looking for a solution. I've tried several exterminators and had no success, except to catch a racoon and the neighbor's cat. This year, I finally found the right company: Sacramento Valley Wildlife Services. I called and spoke with Shala Shores, and she came out right away. She identified the culprits as eastern fox squirrels and attached three traps to our fences. The next day the traps were full: two squirrels and a rat. In the past six days we have trapped eight squirrels and five rats! Whenever we've trapped a squirrel Shala comes out and replaces the traps with clean ones and fresh bait. The service has been impeccable, and I've learned a lot from Shala about our squirrels and how to deal with them. Just found holes being dug against one of the buildings that I manage near the river. I called Sac Valley Wildlife Services and Shala came out to meet me a few hours later. She found that skunks are digging under the foundation and are living underneath. She did a full evaluation, answered all of my questions, and even trained the tenant's employees on how to set and close a trap, so that skunks won't get stuck in a cage in the sun all weekend. SVWS is the only way to go in my opinion. We live in a house in midtown Sacramento and recently layed sod. A family of 4 raccoons honed in on it and were tearing it up on a daily basis. We tried every deterrent I could read of on google including cayenne pepper, coyote urine pellets, a high frequency sound emitter from Amazon, etc. but they kept coming back. We had no choice but to hire a trapper after they started breaking through our pet door into the house in search of food. We contacted SVWS for help. They quickly came out and left some traps. The way the system works is you check the traps every morning before 8am and contact them if a raccoon has been trapped at which point they'll come out, remove the raccoon, and leave a new trap until all the animals have been removed. Fees (at the time we hired them) was $135 for initial inspection then $85 for each raccoon removed. This obviously added up to remove a family of 4 raccoons but it was money well spent. Even afterwards there would be an occasional raccoon that would show up to tear up the lawn. SVWS did not hesitate to come back out to place new traps at no extra cost. We eventually didn't trap any and we were not charged anything for the additional visits. This whole process took place over the course of months and they were helpful along every step of the way. If we ever have any return 'visitors' this will be the only service we use. 5 starts all the way!!!***** read more
