    Steak Special

Today, a normal day, October 27th, I wanted to visit this place because I'm new to the neighborhood and I truly regret it, I would never return. The entrance took 40 minutes to come out, they didn't have any more tables than us at 7 at night, and my entrance arrived with a burnt and salty steak. My daughter ordered a pasta that didn't have a bad tasting sauce. They really don't know how to cook a steak and the waiter doesn't care or ask you why you left all the food. Something must be wrong, but definitely no, bad food and bad service. I WILL NEVER RETURN.

We went out to dinner with the in-laws and we chose the Sage restaurant. I called ahead and reserved a table for six. Upon arrival, we were immediately seated. There was a large private party, which added to the atmosphere. We requested a couple appetizers and the waiter informed us that they do not serve alcohol. My father-in-law is a wine snob and he requires wine to be served to him when he goes out to dinner. Luckily, Sage allows you to bring your own bottle and they don't even charge a corking fee. In a strange twist of events, we had two bottles of wine sitting in our trunk. So I ran out to the car and brought them in. My father-in-laws frown turned upside down. Since I had eaten earlier, I wasn't really hungry. So I requested creme brule cheesecake for dinner and I picked from everyones' plates. My father-in-law's veal was rich and wonderfully flavorful. The service was fast and very friendly and I'd definitely visit this restaurant again.

Came here for a birthday. We had a party of seven and they were able to accommodate us at a nice long table. The place doesn't look much like it from the outside but it's nice in the inside and more spacious than it appears. Service was good but a little slow. They also didn't pour the wine for us which I don't like. We had the Thai calamari, which was really good. Then we had the burrata appetizer, which was very small and not as creamy as I normally like burrata. I had one of the chicken specials and it was really good then had chocolate lava cake. It was just all right. It wasn't warm. I would go back and give it another try if I was in the area area.

Sage is located on a somewhat busy avenue with a strip mall. Parking is spread out around the building. Not much to look at from the outside, but expansive, yet cozy on the inside. The manager and staff are very friendly & accommodating. BYOB. The menu is a good size with many Italian dish choices. Portions are normal to large. There is also a Daily Special menu. So many choices that sounded delicious and diverse. THE FOOD--Apps Although I really wanted the Pomeray Shrimp ( sauteed in shallots, port wine, and stone ground mustard) , I went with a simple Burrata cheese salad. Burrata being a style of a Mozzarella ball that is creamy as soon as you break into it served with fresh tomatoes and thinly sliced prosciutto over a bed of mixed greens and sprinkled in olive oil. It wasnt the best Burrata I've ever had but all the components of this salad were fresh & very good. Refreshing. THE FOOD--Entrees One of the Specials we had was excellent; a pasta dish named Tuscan Ragu: Beef short ribs and pork shoulder slow cooked in tomato sauce and served over fresh rigatoni pasta. Topped with cool ricotta cheese and shredded aged provolone cheese. SO GOOD! I had the Salmon Griglia, made of white wine sauce with portobello mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, fresh basil and capers. Another well put together meal. I usually never order farm raised salmon ( we must assume here at $32 and the fact the menu didn't claim it was Wild. Still good although a little salty, but that could be a one time thing. We usually skip dessert but when we found out they had homemade mocha bread pudding with ice cream, we split a serving. Another great choice served with some good old American coffee.

It was delicious! The pulled chicken was flavorful, and the pickled onions and cucumbers added a perfect crunch and zest that complemented the brown rice and kale beautifully. I chose to order directly from the staff instead of using the kiosks since it was my first visit, and I'm glad I did! Their tag line of "Eat Juicy Chicken" compelled us in. Unfortunately, our first time was a bit of a flop. First, the positives. Placing your order is a cinch, either with one of many kiosks or with the folks at the counter. We opted for the latter since it was our first visit and we were paying with cash. Service at the counter was warm and friendly. While waiting for our meal, we also took notice of the wide array of pumps by the drink dispenser. They're all free sauces you can get to dress up your meal. But that was precisely where things kind of went meh. My husband's boneless breast meal was heavily sauced and rendered the whole thing a little too salty. My chicken Caesar salad was just fine, but I craved more texture (some croutons would've killed). I keep comparing our ho-hum experience to others who've raved about their meals here, and I think our mistake was two-fold: 1) We didn't order a chicken sandwich. I should've known better - when most of the signature items on a menu gravitate toward one type of item, it's a restaurant's way of hinting at their strengths. Opting to order a salad and a grilled chicken at a fried chicken place was a bad start. Learn from my mistakes. 2) We paired a saucy chicken with saucy sides. All three items in my husband's order - the meat, the Brussel sprouts, and the potatoes - were generously drizzled with a sauce. It's no wonder our taste buds breathed a sigh of relief whenever we had a bite of undressed crinkle cut fries; we were assaulting our mouths with salt and flavor. If you're a saucy person, have at it ; otherwise, I'd recommend creating a more balanced plate and ordering a few things without sauce so you can appreciate the cooking. Because in my heart of hearts, I believe items are well-prepared here; they're just doused in too much covering to be appreciated.

Outdoor seating available, but large windows, which were open last night. We were seated promptly at a window seat and Diana came by pretty quickly to take our order. You have to try their Focaccia bread. They do a little something special that makes it so crispy outside, but fluffy and buttery on the inside. My wife ordered the "The Clam Jam" (beer-braised littlenecks, Calabrian chili, house sausage and Espelette Butter). She love the dish, as did I the one clam she allowed. I ordered the Hamachi Crudo (Organic cherry ponzu, lime, jalapeño, shiro dashi, pistachio gremolata and red onion.) This is a very fancy ceviche, with cherries and all the fixins' which I would gladly order again... My wife's entrée was the Goffle Road farm half chicken (crispy fingerling potatoes, herb butter & roast chicken jus). Gotta say, they Lula's does a great job with this chicken. I stop by Goffle Road farm and the chicken is superior to pretty much anything else, but this came out with such a light crispy skin and so juicy and tender. Excellent! My entrée was the Elite Prime Grass-Fed Coulotte steak (Pomme puree, crispy sunchokes & black garlic jus.) The steak was done to perfection and the potatoes puree were so very creamy and good. No dessert tonight... just a couple cups of coffee and a little walk around Ridgewood. Busy place! Lula is a BYO!

The hospitality was incredible. We went there for my birthday. All the staff knew it was my birthday and they also knew that I was eight months pregnant and wanted to make sure that I was comfortable. The food was exceptional. The wait staff was so nice and provided recommendations while not pushing any one dish. We got the focaccia, softshell crab, Peking duck and chicken liver for appetizers. The softshell crab was the best I've ever had, and I would come back to this restaurant for this alone. The Peking duck was juicy and tender with the most incredible slaw type salad underneath it. The focaccia with the butter was also phenomenal, the owner actually brought it out to us and we had a nice conversation with him and you can tell he just poured his heart and soul into this restaurant. The focaccia is definitely not an appetizer to be overlooked just because it is bread. While I couldn't have any of the chicken liver mousse, it looked stunning, and my husband said that it was incredible and so light and fluffy, and it was a massive portion. I look forward to when we come back when I'm not pregnant and I can eat it. For dinner I got the Arctic char, and my husband got the pork. The Arctic char was unbelievable. It was piping hot and literally just melted in my mouth with each bite and the side that came with it was a mix of asparagus, mushrooms, farro and I don't know what else, but it was fantastic if I could have that side on its own as well, I would order more. My husband's pork was crispy and delicious with another incredible slaw topping, and it was so massive he has to take home like a third of it for dessert. We had the lemon meringue tart for dessert, which was also incredible and so refreshing for a dessert. All of the food was outrageously fresh and just outstanding. This restaurant is our new favorite place and on the way out we even made a reservation for three weeks from now to come back. This is probably the best restaurant that I've eaten at in Ridgewood hands down and I'm so glad that they are in the area. The restaurant adds a new vibe with food that is so phenomenal to match. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area as a MUST try. Of course me and my husband will be going back in a few weeks and we can't wait.

He was a big help in answering any question I had. Our party was roughly 25 people and we reserved the back room for the party. The back room was big enough for all of us to fit comfortably without it feeling cramped. We ordered the apps ahead of time and were told that they would be ready at 5:30. Sure enough, at 5:30 all of the apps came out and they were a big hit. Everything was fantastic. We got some large pizzas, nachos, mozzarella sticks, potstickers, and calamari. There was practically nothing left. The entree's were great and came without delay. I didn't hear a single complaint from any of the guests. I'd be remiss if I didn't talk about our waiter for the night, Alan. I don't think I've ever seen someone be so on top of things before. He handled the whole room essentially by himself and somehow it never seemed like there was a single hiccup the whole night. He was beyond excellent. As someone who is extremely picky about both, I was pleasantly surprised. The fries were fantastic--crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and they tasted like they were cooked in fresh oil, which makes a huge difference to me. Honestly, they were some of the better fries I've had in a while. The wings had good flavor, although the chicken itself was a little dry. I'm usually a dry-rub kind of girl, but I do enjoy a good garlic parmesan wing every now and then. These were good, but not the best garlic parm wings I've ever had. I've definitely had better.
