Went here tonight with my husband and our good friend. It was a pretty good experience. Our waitress Jessica was amazing. She was on point and her service and personality was great! There was some miscommunication between the host and our server but she made sure to handle everything. We got the sticky wings (amazing), the fried green tomatoes (amazing), the steak with green beans,the chicken with spinach and the blackened catfish with broccoli. The food was so so good. This place was GREAT! My friends and I went for dinner. The decor is nice and relaxed. The staff was super friendly. The food was really good. I had the burger and fries, just as I ordered, filling and flavorful. My friend had the steak with potatoes and broccoli and my other friend had the chicken with grits. All of our plates were empty! I came to eat here during lunch time. 1st time eating here. The waitress (hoping her name is Keisha) was very good at her job. Sage management hope you read this.. I was about to leave because no one greeted me and I saw the bartender talking to people that came in AFTER me. Thinking no one much have seen me, I was about to leave. Sage is in a great location very close to The Peabody hotel. When you walk in the place is packed, there is music going, a bar, cool vibe, and obviously people having lots of fun. When places are that crowded it usually means the food is really good, or the drinks are really good. For Sage I think the drinks probably do more for people than the food. It is a cool place to hang out and have mimosas, but the food is nothing to write home about. My wife ordered the Crab Cake Benedict, and I ordered Sage Egg White Omelet. The Benedict was better for sure, but still nothing special. Did not coming with anything else, the bread they used was unique, but the crab did not seem super fresh. My omelet was smaller than expected, salsa was pretty good, but presentation was lacking and even with added protein, just nothing unique about it. The service was subpar. Oh Sage.... Tip: come up with a better system for waiting parties. The guy taking down people's information was taking FOR-EVER. It was unbelievably slow and a turn off for the restaurant. The food was...okay but I'm from the DMV, so I have food like this all around me. Like...we didn't even bother to finish them (and THAT'S WILD). The waffles were made from like a donut batter and the chicken (from chicken thighs) had literally no seasoning. It was shocking. It was like biting into a "no salt" chip and being like, what? The omelet was really good! Cooked softly and stuffed well! The drinks were great but not much alcohol. I had a great experience here...once I got the parking situation together, lol! This is in the heart of downtown, so that comes along with the territory. This was my first visit. I went for Downtown Dining Week. I chose the lunch special. I had roasted chicken, spinach, and mashed potatoes. It was really good. The spinach had a unique taste. It was really good. Definitely a recipe I would want. The chicken was good. It was white meat. I normally don't like white meat because of how quickly it dries, but this was really good and juicy. I wasn't a huge fan of the potatoes, but it wasn't nothing a little salt and pepper couldn't fix. Overall the meal was great! I've visited this restaurant at least 4 times and unfortunately every time it gets worse. The issue is the service and professionalism. I won't back track my review but only talk about my recent visit for brunch. We arrived at 11:47am and put our names on the list. The hostess said, they don't give estimated times but just call you when they are ready for you. My sister was visiting and really insisted on going. We walked Beale St. and visited some other stores. At 1:30pm I realized no one had called. I called the restaurant to see where we were on the list and a lady said she was checking but never came back to the phone ( we should have just went some where else, right?) my sister was like let's just go back up there. We walked up and I asked the hostess where are we on the list, she said, oh y'all next. (I totally feel she just said that after realizing she never called). We sit down at a two seater table with 3 people. I watch the hostess put reserve on tables holding them for people that were just arriving. They weren't taking reservations, so how are tables on reserve. So at this point I'm just ready to go. We order, eat and leave. I will never be back to this establishment ever again. I don't recommend at all. The experience was so bad I can't even compliment the food even tho my sister says the food was good. My suggestion is that they should take reservations only and when they are booked they are booked. People will just have to wait to get on the list next time. Oh! I have NEVER in my life experienced such unpleasant, non-service and unprofessionalism. I was visiting from out town and arrived around 11pm on Saturday night. Once we sat down, the server/ bartender did not greeted us nor did they even acknowledge our presence. We initially gave them the benefit of the doubt that ok, maybe they are just really busy will get around to us. We sat there at least 15 min and chatted. We browsed the menu and decided what we wanted, my date went to the restroom and everything and still no acknowledgement, greeting, or service. Hmm, strange right? Especially because two people arrived after us, sat directly next to us at the bar and were greeted and service. Wow! So we finally grab her attention to take our orders and she had the NASTIEST, nonchalant, poor attitude. For absolutely no reason. It was clear that she did not want to serve us for some strange reason??! So I'm telling her my order, she never looks my direction or acknowledge my me. I ask my date if you think she heard me because she was completely disregarding me. My date places an order she does the same thing- non acknowledgment, then just walks off. So we are totally confused?? Like did she get our order or what? We were so hungry and ready to eat and drink and enjoy our evening. So, I go to the restroom and when I come back, my date has a drink but I don't. I see the server making drinks so I just assume mine is on the way. Haha absolutely not. It never arrived. She made drinks for all other customers except me. We also ordered 2 waters, she gave my date water and gave me nothing. She continuously checked on the 2 ppl Who arrived after us and served them with no problem but treated us as if we were invisible. Our food finally arrived. It was decent. We both ordered fries with our food but again only he got the fries so we shared them. My date continued attempting to waive her down to try to get another water for me, inquire about my drink that I ordered, and the fries. No luck, she continued to ignore us and walk past us like we did not matter or exist. I have never seen anything like this before. Another person was behind the bar, a male. We asked him for the water instead since we were unsuccessful with her. He finally brings the water and at this point I'm ready to leave. We ask her for the check, she again completely ignored us so we asked the male server for the check. He reads off our order and I let him know that he needs to take off the alcoholic beverage because I never received it and the fries. My date paid and we left. Terrible experience!! She should not be working on customer service because that was completely unnecessary and unacceptable. I'm not sure if she is family or a girlfriend to the owner because my brother (who recommended this restaurant) reached out to the owners after I informed him of my poor experience and they pretty much made excuses that she had been working all day and they did not have any relief for her. However, her attitude and treatment was only negative to me and my date, she was able to serve the party next to us with no problem but completely disregarded me and my date. We watched it all happen. So that excuse does not justify her poor service and treatment to us. We went across the street to Local on Main Street and were instantly greeted and served upon arrival with the best service. So unfortunately, I will never step foot in SAGE again nor will I recommend it to anyone! They need to do better with customer service and training the employees. It's sad because we wanted to support a black owned business but received the worst service ever. I will never come back. read more

I tried brunch as SAGE and I'm torn with this review because I loved my crab cake benedict, but there were a couple of annoyances on our visit. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles and the waffles could not have been any more dry. The chicken was good, but they did not give enough sauce to cover up the dryness. We also ordered the Mimosa Carafe (which is $25) and realized it was NOT WORTH IT. They premix the drink and the bottle they give doesn't even fill 4 of the flutes all the way to the top. (There were 4 of us total at brunch) We expected to get at least 5 drinks out of a carafe to make our money's worth, but nope you don't. Just spend the money on a single glass if mimosas is the route you want to take. Parking is tough downtown on a weekend. So come a little early so you can take some time to drive around if you don't commit to using a parking garage. We also arrived right before they opened at 11, and there was a small line. When the cheeseburger arrived the server didn't say they were out of onions. I had to ask the server about the onions. She left and returned and informed us that they were out of onions. I informed the server that I did not want the cheeseburger because they don't have onions and would like wings. The cheeseburger had not been eaten. The server left. When my drinks were delivered I asked about the wings, she replied "we have onions" I told her the cheeseburger is cold now everyone has eaten their food and you now have onions, why can't I get the wings instead of the cheeseburger"? She replied because the cheeseburger was made correctly. I then asked to speak to the manager. I explained that I should have been informed the restaurant was out of onions, had I known I would have ordered something else. The manager replied as a consumer I should have ensured the restaurant had onions. I replied I read the menu which stated the cheeseburger comes with onions. Should I have asked do you have a hamburger bun? How would the consumer know the restaurant was out of something that was on the menu. I have never been to a restaurant where it's the customers responsibility to ask if the restaurant has items listed on the menu. Will never return. Did offer to compensate. They also have a cute enclosed patio section at the front. The tables were a little high and a little unsturdy but we made it work. We started with the fried cauliflower and sticky wings. Both arrived quickly and were hot, fresh, and delicious!!! Our food entrees were just ok. The appetizers were definitely the winners. We ordered the grilled salmon burger which was ok. Not good but not bad. We also had the fish and Gouda grits. The fish is normally fried but I asked for blackened. The waiter said since it wasn't too busy they should be able to do it. I didn't like the grits at all. This was my first time having Gouda grits though. The fish was okay but I didn't like the sauce drizzled on top. For dessert we tried the beignets. Now I'm from Louisiana so I may be judging a little hard, but the beignets were like fried air. They had a nice sweet taste but mostly air. Cool, low key spot in downtown. Stopped by with my family last Sunday. Solid brunch menu. The Bloody Mary is killer; I highly recommend it. I had the omelet which was great. My kids had French Toast which was next level. The service was great as well. This doesn't seem like a spot that gets a lot of kids, but our server was great and made sure our kids were well taken care of and had a great meal. We were given 1/2 off an appetizer to use before the end of the year from the Christmas special they are currently running. Real chill vibe and clean atmosphere!! Greeted at the door with sign in sheet and our temperature was taking immediately on our wrist. Sat down in one of the tables near the door and immediately our waiter was telling us about the menu as well as suggesting good things to try.
