My family took a weekend road trip to Memphis and stayed downtown. After watching the Peabody ducks that morning, we were looking for Saturday morning brunch and YELP led us to Sage. I will state up front of all the meals while we were in town our favorite was at sage. It has a very hip, modern vibe. I would say it is on the smaller wide as it did fill up while we were there. For Saturday morning brunch, they had a D.J. The music was loud enough to put you into a groove but not loud enough that we couldn't have conversation. She played mainly hip-hop/R&B, but she played the new stuff that my 11 year old daughter knew and the classic stuff that I loved, so we were all happy. Now, let's talk about the food. We enjoyed everything that we ordered. There was nothing that was not good or even average. Everything was on point. I had the Soul Waffle which was very unique as I had never tried anything like it. I was being adventurous, and it paid off because it was delicious. The service was great and the price was very reasonable. I was in Memphis for a weekend and BRUNCH was a must. We couldn't get a reservation so we walked in - about a 20 minute wait. This place at first was not my cup of tea due to the service. I thought it was rushed and I was being dismissed BUT I was just a tiny bit or MAJOR but hangry! This place is a black owned restaurant and i was excited to try it. I ordered a few mimosas, the egg white omelet and the avocado toast. The flavor of this food was AMAZING! I never have raged about breakfast but THANK YOU BABY JESUS!!!! One person that TURNED my mood into 100% was the chef that came out. He was the sweetest and funniest person that i have encountered working in a busy restaurant. He seemed and appeared very rude at first but thats is his thing! He probably caught wind that i was complaining to my friend about the slow service and came personally to drop the food off. When he dropped it off, LOL he gave me stern look and asked me if i was gonna eat it LOL. I almost caught an attitude but i felt his vibe and he started laughing and making fun of me. I sincerely apologized for my bratty bahavior and TBH one of the best brunch experiences i had in a very long time! Thank you for producing amazing food & having an amazing staff! Service and food were wonderful, only comment would be that the salmon was a little over done and both the salmon and chicken dishes were a little salty. But we would return again and again. The sous chef Jewel comes out and chats with patrons and made some great recommendations (Soul Roll). All and all a nice experience, a beautiful night helped too. Adding to above, the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the addition of a gratuity on the check for a party of 2. In my opinion that decreases what I would tip a server. I'm not likely to add to what I am forced to pay. They may want to rethink that process. If you make sure to check your bill, this is a must visit when in Memphis. read more

This is that hit brunch spot! Mimosas are only on sundays during brunch hour. We came on a Friday. The fried green tomatoes were delicious but let them cool before you bit into them. Grits don't come with cheese....whattttt??? That was a disappointment. But after I ordered cheese to add they were good. I am absolutely amazed that they have Louisiana hot sauce instead of Tabasco! BIG YESSSS ! Now, the beignets....they weren't bad..but, please let the cook know to turn down the heat & cook about a minute longer...also, make just a tad thicker. Beignets are fried donuts with powdered sugar. They shouldn't be almost Burnt on the outside & empty on the inside. (Now, unless you plan to inject them with a little rum on the inside after the frying process ) also, lastly on the beignets, sift the powdered sugar! The drinks were good!! Not disappointed at all. Hi I came to your business on 2/12 and I will never be back. My husband and I came to Sage to have a nice dinner and drinks. We were seated and that was it. We sat for over 20 mins and not one person except the person who seated us spoke to us. We didn't get water or was even asked for a drink. We continued to wait, still nothing. A couple came in after us and was seated, greeted and received water. We wanted to support a black business because we are black and it's sad to say that this is not a surprise for us. If you don't have enough staff I'd rather know that you don't have enough staff then to sit and wait. We would've contributed a nice amount to Sage for a meal and a drink but unfortunately we were not given the opportunity. Came to Sage to have a brunch date with my sister. We had a great time. I do not know if this is the owner's first business, but I think that this place has a ton of potential. Great food, sweet servers, nice ambiance, but very little space. I think they should expand if the opportunity permits. My sister and I came early because we knew there would be a line. We chose to sit at the end of the bar to give bigger parties a better chance at sitting as soon as possible. I ordered the Sage's Downtown Omelette with no meat and a side of hash-browns (in my opinion they are breakfast potatoes, but they were good so I'm a happy camper regardless). The drink is a pineapple mimosa with strawberry garnish. Really good!I like more juice than "drank". Overall, great food, nice place, just needs more space. read more

While looking for a place to eat after my flight landed, my cousin and I called ahead and were told that they stopped seating people at 9:45. As most restaurants stop seating about an hour before close, we headed to the restaurant based on that information. We arrived right at 9:30 and the hostess told us they were closed. We mentioned that we had called ahead and been told that they seat until 9:45, she told us she would seat us and then said that they closed at 10. We followed the hostess to a table and sat there for nearly 10 minutes without anyone coming to the table and ended up leaving. Overall the restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the menu had more than a few items I would have liked to try. I feel like communication could be improved. If we hadn't been originally told on the phone that they were seating until 9:45, we wouldn't have went to the restaurant. If things had been differently communicated once we did arrive at the restaurant, we wouldn't have actually sat down. Instead we were sat, told a closing time, and seemingly ignored. read more

Came here for brunch (Jan 4) with a group of friends and as it was my first time here, I was impressed. The establishment is fairly small but we were able to get a booth that fit all of us. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits, Turkey Sausage, and a couple of brunch mimosas. The Shrimp and Grits was very good but the grit to shrimp ratio could've been better and the turkey sausage was simple sausage. I enjoyed the drinks and they were perfect for brunch! The only issue was that we were asked to move as the booth we were in was reserved but the manager was really cool about it. I will definitely return to try other dishes here. read more

Cute black owned restaurant. Can I say it's such a vibe here? A very intimate setting where you have drinks and food with your girlfriends/homies or even a significant other. We didn't have the friendliest greeting coming inside but the host wasn't rude either. He got us set up at a table where the waiter was pretty welcoming. With a variety of cocktail choice to choose from I ended up getting a strawberry henny. It was pretty strong just the way I like it. We ordered some sticky wings, soul egg rolls, and ooh wee rolls. The sticky wings were out of this world. It had amazing flavor and crispiness. I never had egg rolls with mac and cheese in it but the soul rolls were not half bad. I really enjoyed the ooh wee rolls the most. It was the cheese and sauce for me!!! When it was time to split the check, I realized after leaving the restaurant that I was charged for an extra meal. I only had two drinks and one appetizer so I knew there was some kind of mistake. Hopefully the waiters and waitresses will be more careful in the future because I would love to come back here. read more

A truly unexpected delight. The Majestic Grille was packed for brunch so decided to walk a few doors up to find another restaurant. Walked into Sage and it was a pleasant surprise. During brunch, they have a DJ. The restaurant had an incredible vibe. Luckily there were 2 seats open (everything else was taken). They have a very creative cocktail (I had Unearest Happiness) and food (I had the Soul Waffles--stuffed with mac n cheese, collards, and chicken) menu. The servers and bartenders were excellent.
