My family took a weekend road trip to Memphis and stayed downtown. After watching the Peabody ducks that morning, we were looking for Saturday morning brunch and YELP led us to Sage. I will state up front of all the meals while we were in town our favorite was at sage. It has a very hip, modern vibe. I would say it is on the smaller wide as it did fill up while we were there. For Saturday morning brunch, they had a D.J. The music was loud enough to put you into a groove but not loud enough that we couldn't have conversation. She played mainly hip-hop/R&B, but she played the new stuff that my 11 year old daughter knew and the classic stuff that I loved, so we were all happy. Now, let's talk about the food. We enjoyed everything that we ordered. There was nothing that was not good or even average. Everything was on point. I had the Soul Waffle which was very unique as I had never tried anything like it. I was being adventurous, and it paid off because it was delicious. The service was great and the price was very reasonable. Service and food were wonderful, only comment would be that the salmon was a little over done and both the salmon and chicken dishes were a little salty. But we would return again and again. The sous chef Jewel comes out and chats with patrons and made some great recommendations (Soul Roll). All and all a nice experience, a beautiful night helped too. Adding to above, the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the addition of a gratuity on the check for a party of 2. In my opinion that decreases what I would tip a server. I'm not likely to add to what I am forced to pay. They may want to rethink that process. If you make sure to check your bill, this is a must visit when in Memphis. read more

This is that hit brunch spot! Mimosas are only on sundays during brunch hour. We came on a Friday. The fried green tomatoes were delicious but let them cool before you bit into them. Grits don't come with cheese....whattttt??? That was a disappointment. But after I ordered cheese to add they were good. I am absolutely amazed that they have Louisiana hot sauce instead of Tabasco! BIG YESSSS ! Now, the beignets....they weren't bad..but, please let the cook know to turn down the heat & cook about a minute longer...also, make just a tad thicker. Beignets are fried donuts with powdered sugar. They shouldn't be almost Burnt on the outside & empty on the inside. (Now, unless you plan to inject them with a little rum on the inside after the frying process ) also, lastly on the beignets, sift the powdered sugar! The drinks were good!! Not disappointed at all. Sorry for not posting pictures....I was on vacation & enjoying my time with my friends. read more

Hi I came to your business on 2/12 and I will never be back. My husband and I came to Sage to have a nice dinner and drinks. We were seated and that was it. We sat for over 20 mins and not one person except the person who seated us spoke to us. We didn't get water or was even asked for a drink. We continued to wait, still nothing. A couple came in after us and was seated, greeted and received water. We wanted to support a black business because we are black and it's sad to say that this is not a surprise for us. If you don't have enough staff I'd rather know that you don't have enough staff then to sit and wait. We would've contributed a nice amount to Sage for a meal and a drink but unfortunately we were not given the opportunity. I will share this with all my friends and let them know that our experience was terrible. Thanks for nothing. ****also so unprofessional to read a bad review and not respond back. Visiting family in Memphis. Really wanted to try something/someplace new or different. Found Sage and knew we had to try it out. The food was good but not the hype. I was underwhelmed at the outcome and quality. I may try to go back again just give it another shot. But it is still a good spot to go to for food and fun. read more

Came to Sage to have a brunch date with my sister. We had a great time. I do not know if this is the owner's first business, but I think that this place has a ton of potential. Great food, sweet servers, nice ambiance, but very little space. I think they should expand if the opportunity permits. My sister and I came early because we knew there would be a line. We chose to sit at the end of the bar to give bigger parties a better chance at sitting as soon as possible. I ordered the Sage's Downtown Omelette with no meat and a side of hash-browns (in my opinion they are breakfast potatoes, but they were good so I'm a happy camper regardless). The drink is a pineapple mimosa with strawberry garnish. Really good!I like more juice than "drank". Overall, great food, nice place, just needs more space. read more

Nice vibes and music. The food was good I really loved the soul food rolls. Everything was good. They took us in while it was snowing hard last weekend and didn't know if their employees were going to have to leave. But they still took care of us. The staff was nice. The food was good. We did not know what time they opened, so we arrived early and were first in line. One of my friends had trouble with her leg so they let her sit down while we waited. I wanted to give them another star, but it took a while for someone to take our order and serve our food. read more

Took my little brother here for his bday brunch celebration! We made reservations, and arrived upon opening in which there was already a line to get in! The restaurant is small on the inside. The service was very quick! Very impressed with our service. The chicken & waffles were good, but the chicken was a bit over cooked. The waffles were better. I ordered bacon, hash browns, and eggs on the side. The bacon was phenomenal! The hash browns are diced potatoes, so based on your preference those are hit or miss. The eggs were good. While looking for a place to eat after my flight landed, my cousin and I called ahead and were told that they stopped seating people at 9:45. As most restaurants stop seating about an hour before close, we headed to the restaurant based on that information. We arrived right at 9:30 and the hostess told us they were closed. We mentioned that we had called ahead and been told that they seat until 9:45, she told us she would seat us and then said that they closed at 10. We followed the hostess to a table and sat there for nearly 10 minutes without anyone coming to the table and ended up leaving. Overall the restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the menu had more than a few items I would have liked to try. I feel like communication could be improved. If we hadn't been originally told on the phone that they were seating until 9:45, we wouldn't have went to the restaurant. If things had been differently communicated once we did arrive at the restaurant, we wouldn't have actually sat down. Instead we were sat, told a closing time, and seemingly ignored. read more

Looked like a great restaurant so we called to make reservations, no answer. Decided to drive there 20 minutes to have lunch. Arrived at 1:30 pm with one party inside and no one on their patio. Probably because it's 85 degrees out. They refused to serve on the patio because we had a dog. 60 lb Australian shepherd mix. Would have just laid there while we dropped $150 on lunch. Guess not. You suck! read more

Music in the restaurant is VERY loud. Decided to enjoy the patio. It's very hot on the patio. Hopefully they will remove all this plastic glass because it's really a beautiful day outside. Service was a bit slow, considering the restaurant was empty! Good had a good taste. Salmon was cooked a bit too long. If they adjust the volume of the music, will definitely come back and dine here again!!!! read more

Came here for brunch (Jan 4) with a group of friends and as it was my first time here, I was impressed. The establishment is fairly small but we were able to get a booth that fit all of us. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits, Turkey Sausage, and a couple of brunch mimosas. The Shrimp and Grits was very good but the grit to shrimp ratio could've been better and the turkey sausage was simple sausage. I enjoyed the drinks and they were perfect for brunch! The only issue was that we were asked to move as the booth we were in was reserved but the manager was really cool about it. I will definitely return to try other dishes here. read more

Some of the highlights of this restaurant are the FOOD, music and decor. There's even a bar for nice cocktails with your meal. You don't see a lot of black-owned, sit-down restaurants and they are just doing a great job by all measures! read more

Cute black owned restaurant. Can I say it's such a vibe here? A very intimate setting where you have drinks and food with your girlfriends/homies or even a significant other. We didn't have the friendliest greeting coming inside but the host wasn't rude either. He got us set up at a table where the waiter was pretty welcoming. With a variety of cocktail choice to choose from I ended up getting a strawberry henny. It was pretty strong just the way I like it. We ordered some sticky wings, soul egg rolls, and ooh wee rolls. The sticky wings were out of this world. It had amazing flavor and crispiness. I never had egg rolls with mac and cheese in it but the soul rolls were not half bad. I really enjoyed the ooh wee rolls the most. It was the cheese and sauce for me!!! When it was time to split the check, I realized after leaving the restaurant that I was charged for an extra meal. I only had two drinks and one appetizer so I knew there was some kind of mistake. Hopefully the waiters and waitresses will be more careful in the future because I would love to come back here. read more

A truly unexpected delight. The Majestic Grille was packed for brunch so decided to walk a few doors up to find another restaurant. Walked into Sage and it was a pleasant surprise. During brunch, they have a DJ. The restaurant had an incredible vibe. Luckily there were 2 seats open (everything else was taken). They have a very creative cocktail (I had Unearest Happiness) and food (I had the Soul Waffles--stuffed with mac n cheese, collards, and chicken) menu. The servers and bartenders were excellent. A definite must do again next time in Memphis. read more

Arrived at 11:08 this morning for brunch and was shocked at the long line for this place. This was my second attempt at this place for brunch and this time we decided to wait it out. Once we made it inside....IT WAS WELL WORTH THE WAIT! The staff is very attentive! Even passed out water bottles while we waited outside to get a seat. My friend and I shared the strawberry French toast and added sides. Everything was delicious, came out hot and needed ZERO seasoning added to it... now that's my kind of food! We will return but I definitely dread the wait in line already HA! read more

This restaurant was AMAZING, you have to come when in the Memphis area! The vibes are 100, the people are sooooo nice and the food is immaculate. I came here on a Sunday (Father's Day) it was about an 1.5 hour wait (we came before they opened). They called us and let us know our table was ready promptly. I will DEFINITELY be returning. Didn't get a chance to get a drink but they were fixing them up they looked delicious. I got the chicken and waffles and everything was seasoned to perfection the gouda cheese adds a nice touch to the grits. My friend got shrimp and grits and it was nice seasoned the beignets were delicious as well tasted exactly like a doughnut this place is a 10/10 and deserves this review, whenever in the area give them a chance they won't disappoint! read more

"The place with the cotton candy mimosa" was a great experience all around. Will 100% be back. The owner is fully involved and does a little of everything. Constantly moving tables and chairs, speaking with customers, and making sure your experience is a good one. Waitress was great too and very attentive. The fruit plate was perfect and more than enough for 4 people. We all got different orders and they were all great. If you haven't tried this place you need to try it. read more

I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

The menu has all sorts of interesting things that are unique to the area. Having some food allergies they made me something off menu. This is a great choice to complement anything you do in the evening of Memphis. The staff was great, and pricing was excellent!

As soon as we sat down at the bar, the bartender--a Caucasian woman with a short haircut whose name I unfortunately didn't get--greeted us with an attitude that immediately made us feel unwelcome. Instead of providing friendly service, she was dismissive, impatient, and rushed us through placing our to-go order. She informed us that we could not eat at the bar, which was completely fine. We agreed without any issue and ordered our food to go. However, when my food arrived, I simply opened the container to make sure my order was correct before leaving. She immediately rushed back over and aggressively said, "Didn't I tell you that you could not eat at the bar?" I hadn't taken a single bite--I was only checking my order. Rather than politely clarifying the policy, she continued to scold us and make us feel like we were inconveniencing her simply by being there. We still hadn't even received my friend's food, yet she seemed more interested in lecturing us than providing basic customer service. Once my friend's food finally arrived, we left as quickly as possible. As visitors in town celebrating Pride, we expected a welcoming atmosphere and basic courtesy. Instead, we experienced hostility, impatience, and a complete lack of professionalism. There's a huge difference between enforcing a policy and treating customers with disrespect, and this bartender clearly doesn't understand that distinction. The food may have been fine, but the service was so unpleasant that I would never return or recommend Bar Dogs to anyone looking for a friendly place to eat or have a drink. Customer service training is desperately needed.

That and the peppermint gelato it came with was very strong on the peppermint. Im sure some would love it but it just wasnt for us. Last piece Ill mention is just the effort and attention to detail. It was our anniversary and they brought us complimentary glasses of champagne (thank you). They are very deliberate in how they move, their table settings and our server knew her restaurant like a pro. The restaurant was virtually empty, yet the manager, Charles, insisted that if any of us sat near one another, we would be considered one large party and could only have one check. I explained that we had no problem sitting at separate tables, and each table would gladly have a single check. That should have solved the issue. Instead, Charles instructed an inexperienced and unprofessional server to scatter us throughout the restaurant and warned that if we interacted between tables, we would still be treated as one party. From a management standpoint, this decision made no sense. Rather than maximizing an opportunity to generate significant revenue, leadership chose to create unnecessary obstacles. Ironically, spreading us throughout the restaurant would have required opening multiple sections, increasing the workload on servers and support staff instead of simplifying operations. Leadership sets the tone for a business. Good managers solve problems and create positive guest experiences. They don't create barriers that send paying customers elsewhere. At the end of the day, every business has one primary objective: to generate revenue while providing excellent customer service. Unfortunately, this experience demonstrated poor judgment, inflexible leadership, and a missed opportunity to earn the business of 24 guests who simply wanted a meal. I hope Curfew reevaluates this approach because customer service, common sense, and hospitality should always work together.

I recently visited this restaurant, and while there were some positives, the overall experience left much to be desired. The food was delicious, and the service was fast, which was a great start. However, the customer service was a letdown. The waitstaff lacked a sense of urgency, which made the dining experience feel less than attentive. Sage has been open a year but I had stayed away because there is something about the word fusion that turns me off when it comes to restaurants. Finally caved in because the idea of Soul Food Fusion was intriguing. Well I have been making a huge mistake. Started with the Soul Roll,Mac Cheese,Greens and chicken egg roll. All I can say is WOW! We continued with the pork and riced cauliflower wonton bowl, seared chicken, catfish and chips and Japanese fried chicken sandwich. Each was done wonderfully and had unique flavor combinations. My sister optimistically wanted to try the bread pudding .... I warned her ... But she did it anyway. I tried a bite. It was terrible. My sister being of the more steel stomach type (and her side was covered in Caramel sauce) ate several bites before she made this funny face ... 'This is freezer burnt!' I just said 'I told ya. I literally felt like I was eating a roast beef po-boy in ramen form with the noodles dish, and the chicken sandwich was crisp, tasty, and well-seasoned. Everything else about our visit? Awful. The service missed the mark on numerous fronts, topped off by the overall vibe that we were inconveniencing her by being there. The music was so loud that no one could hear each other. According to the thermostat at the restaurant, the temperature was 86°, as it appeared the A/C was broken. And the drinks were just okay. I would maybe get takeout but will pass on any further visits.

We arrived around 10:00am and were greeted by a pleasant gentleman. When you enter, you place your order at the counter and have a seat. Someone will bring your order. I ordered Lil Willie's which came with a meat option, pancakes, and two sides. I had bacon, pancakes, grits and scrambled eggs totaling $18 and some change before the tip. They had a TV on playing something on Nickelodeon (there was a family with small children dining) which I thought was cute. The wait was about 10 mins. It comes on a paper plate with plastic fork. You go get salt and pepper and whatever other condiments you want. I didn't really look at the entire menu because it was breakfast time, but there are other options.
