My pet almost died from the surgery there, they gave my dog Fentanyl as pain killer and my pet won't wake up, during the visit post surgery, I heard more than twenty times from the doctor in person or over the phone "I worried about your pet" that's all I was being told rather than any medical conditions and options; during my first visit at noon, I noticed he was on Fentanyl injection and demanded the doctor to stop using it, luckily it was stopped and my dog woke up in the afternoon. The medicine patches stick badly to his fur and skin, after 3 weeks, they are still there on the skin. ($18000) From the follow up oncologist visit, another bad experience happened. They didn't perform any blood work recheck and just wanted me to accept any treatment plan on the quote. The consultation was $315, doctor just told me basic treatment option, less than 10 minutes with us, then gone. The nurse couldn't even explain anything and just expect me to pay for the quoted bill onsite without any time for discussion treatment detail or rejecting my question or proposal regarding adjuvant chemotherapy. Cold oncologist with rude nurse assistant and insane assistant hospital manager Weldon Marshall claiming multiple complaints concerning my behavior towards their staff which was absolutely untrue as the nurse was incapable of explaining treatment plan and I had an argument, and it became multiple complaints to me. Short Story: A great place to take your pets...though since it's a hospital, I hope you don't ever have to. Long Story: I've been coming to this Sage for a few years now as my senior cat has pancreatitis and low kidney function. Although I haven't been into the hospital before due to COVID conditions I find the staff here are warm and friendly. They are better than the Sage in Campbell. They are located next to REI and the parking is mixed use in a strip mall. One example of their customer service is that they'll follow up a few days after your visit to see how your pet is doing. My 170 lb European Doberman was unable to hold fluids, accompanied by fecal Jackson Pollack artwork sprayed in any and all directions, labored breathing and tachycardia. All not good. When I arrived, the nurse took about 5 seconds to hear my explanation and my boy was swiftly taken back to be cared for. It took hours before my boy was relatively stable and I was given the option of an overnight stay or take him home. Without knowing the cause and what could be next, the only thing to do was to keep him in doggie ER with updates by phone. The only explanation for his condition would be poisoning, which really isn't that uncommon. Almost a week later with medications, he's almost back to normal with a few episodes of loose stools. We awoke at 3:00 am to the sound of our puppy crying out in pain. I searched online for the nearest pet hospital, and wound up at Sage. It's sort of tucked away in a dark parking lot and my stupid phone kept saying "Arrived, arrived, arrived, arrived," before I had actually found it, found it, found it, found it. The doors are locked, we had to call to from outside, and we were promptly let in. As we were explaining that we had no idea what was wrong with our puppy, someone came and frantically knocked at the door. They didn't let her in, they ignored her until she called. Because I can't just mind my own business, this totally stressed me out. We were given a break down of examination options, and told that we are responsible to pay the bill in full.. yada yada yada- I was so worried, that I was practically annoyed that we were even wasting time on this discussion. But then, the other person had an argument with the vet because she was fostering the puppy and she thought the organization was in contract with Sage. All of the back and forth suddenly made it clear why we were treated as if we were hunting for a bargain. But, when it comes to emergency vet care, please don't treat me like i'm sketchy and shop lifting at your yard sale. So, of course the pupper stops crying and presents like all is well. I knew it wasn't. They took her back for an X-ray. She had eaten side walk chalk (we knew because calcified objects show up a specific way). The fragments were most likely small enough to digest, but large enough to cause a great deal of discomfort. The best course of action was soft wet food, and the same over the counter gas drops given to infants. The Dr really took her time with us, she covered safety tips, pet insurance recommendations, and she held our puppy in such a loving way as she spoon fed her jarred chicken baby food. She also gave as a little talk about never taking our eyes off a young puppy because they're way worse than toddlers. I didn't feel defensive about it. I felt that she really truly speaks out unapologetically, about what is in a pet's best interest. The visit was 900.00, but knowing that our pup didn't swallow anything toxic, or have a major obstruction- that is worth every penny that I own! A veterinary radiologist gave me a follow up call, and confirmed his findings too. I appreciate it so much when you're told that someone will call you, and they actually do. Thank You Sage. We have our floors all clear, so that craft time never becomes snack time again. I'd prefer to accompany my dog, rather than hand them over. I also don't like the locked door (keep on knocking but ya can't come in)! I've since been to a hospital (for our bearded dragon) that I do prefer over this one. They asked us if we were comfortable with the estimated cost- but it wasn't as harsh or condescending as the not so warm welcome we received at Sage. Also after having done my research, Sage is definitely on the higher end of the pricing scale. But, when it comes to a true emergency they are closest to my house and I without a doubt trust Sage. I'd come back again if needed. If you're hunting for emergency vet care, I wish you the very best. Couldn't be more grateful for this place. This is a place that truly cares for the animals that come in here. Took my girl here twice in a week. The second time I had to take her in, was the worst day ever and it was unfortunately her time to go and she was put down. The whole entire staff here both times were nothing but amazing. The nurses, the doctors, the front desk. I wish I could remember everyone's names as they deserve so much recognition. But they sat with me to answer all my questions, were super empathetic and let me have the time I needed with my girl before saying good bye. The urn back was so beautiful. I am blown away by every single person at this facility between Thursday night and all day Friday. We had to take our 10 week old puppy Remy to have an endoscopy to remove a foreign body. When I tell you that every person I encountered was amazing it's an understatement. They absolutely loved her and took the best care of her through this awful experience. Was there on a weekend, wasn't waiting too long surprisingly. Lots of parking out front. They take your animal(s) back without you accompanying. There might be a reason for this, I'm not sure. $210 to have the animal just looked at. Keep this in mind when making a decision to come here. After the exam , and procedures/meds will be another 3-500. Not for the faint of heart. The front of the facility looked clean where you waiting, no idea what happens behind the closed door. I really am new to being a pet owner so it's difficult to know how this place compares. My lovers cat was brought to the hospital in San leandro on Washington and the staff seemed alot friendlier, maybe these were just having trouble finding a smile during the weekend. There was a lady with a super high pitched voice speaking to someone's dog behind the door, could have been the vet or assistant, but 100% that loud voice and high manic energy would have scared my pet, it made me want to run back and comfort him. This place is amazing. Had to take our cat who wasn't eating to get checked out at 4AM. I didn't realize you had to call to let them know you were on the way so when I got there and the doors were locked, I called and they came to greet me. Our cat was examined, they gave me a quote and proceeded with blood and urine tests. We were in and out in 4 hours. The crew were extremely nice and checked on our girl several times over the next two days. I am so glad that so many reviewers have had wonderful experiences at Sage. Maybe our visit was an anomaly but it was not good at all. Our "new" rescue dog that we have had for a few months woke up from his sleep crying and shaking. He couldn't walk and we were terrified. We called our vet at Bollinger Canyon and the answering machine said that Urgent Care closes at 10. It was 10:03. It further said to call Sage. We did. There was much confusion on the phone call to Sage as they thought we were another patient and wanted to collect payment of a bill amount. After the 3rd pass over, we spoke with someone that said to come in. So we did. We waited in the car for awhile and that is understandable as we saw a couple other cars in front of us. Eventually, we told the story a few times and our beloved 10 year plus dog was taken from our arms and we were left to sit in the cold car for a few hours. In that time, we may have been contacted about 3 times. We didn't know what was happening with our dog. We worried if he was alone or scared. It was heartbreaking and scary. Into the second hour, the doctor called and said they wanted to do a panel and some x-rays because she didn't know what was wrong. Could be his back, could be an organ problem, etc. Then she said we would be contacted by the billing person. It was not a clear name like that, it was a weird euphemism for the person who will tell you how much it would cost. Well, it would be upwards to $900. Of course we said yes and gave them our credit card number. We waited some more. Well now, I have to go to the bathroom. I understand about covid, I do. It is scary but when I was told to go to a gas station on Hopyard, I thought...ok that is ridiculous. We decided to head home and then come back as we were not given any timeframe for when or if our dog would be returned to us. We had sat in the cold car for hours with no end in sight. As we arrived at home which is 10 minutes away, closer than some dirty gas station, we were called to be told that they couldn't do the x-ray because our dog freaked out and peed and pooped on himself and we needed to come and pick him up. We couldn't believe it! Like, honestly, how many x-rays must you have done as a business with scared dogs? I would guess MANY. My dog is 10 pounds and over 10 years old with no teeth. He had been given a pain sedation shot. You couldn't do an x-ray? I just was struck by this. So, we picked up our poor dog who was so lethargic and did not even know who we were. We were given some pain meds and stomach pills by a tech and said to call our vet in the morning. No diagnosis. No more knowledge than we had over 2 hours before but now we were $900 poorer. It was a traumatic experience and it made me so angry and sad. I wasn't even going to write a review but I got a survey from Sage today and one of the questions was: Was your dog treated with compassion? Yes or No. Well, how would I know? I would hope so but I was not even informed of what was going on when he was away from us. He came back with poo on him. Yes, they did attempt to clean him up but there was still a lot of poo making his tail stiff. I will say that the doctor emailed to see how our dog was doing. I will say that they did not charge us the full amount because they did not do the x-rays but still...what did they do that warranted an almost $500 bill? Nothing. He was in no better shape than before except he didn't recognize us until lunchtime the next day. I hope to never need Pet ER but if I do, I would never go back to Sage. read more

My cat recently got sick. We called my vet and they did not have the time to see her right away and recommended I take her to SAGE in Dublin. Long story short, she had one failed kidney and the other one was having problems. Her blood work was off the charts. $10,000 to keep her several nights with no guarantee that she would get any better. She was sick and had other conditions. We had to make the decision. We had her for many years. 18 pounds. Big, furry, and extremely loved. Her favorites were myself and my adult son. My son and I were also the ones who loved her the most. She was our kitty. The doctor, nurse and staff were extremely helpful. The doctor explained what needed to be done and did not hold anything back. They gave us all the time we needed to say our goodbyes. My son and I spent her last moments with her. It was extremely difficult. We both sobbed uncontrollably. Especially my son. She was kind of like a comfort cat for him. The entire staff were very understanding. I can tell they were hurting for us and even with us. They were very compassionate. They helped make this situation just a tiny bit better. About a week or two later we received a personal handwritten card from the staff. They sent their condolences. They remembered how sad my son and I were and told us that it was very obvious that we loved our cat. I thought it it was very professional and nice of them. Thank you SAGE for being there for us. My cat suffers from regular uterine infections and bladder stones, and after a day where he threw up several times and didn't appear to be eating or going to the bathroom at all, we called SAGE's emergency clinic to ask for advice and possibly bring him in. They advised us to bring him in and took his information so they would be able to check him in quickly. I got to the clinic, parked outside and called them per the instructions posted outside. Their lobby is still closed due to COVID. I waited 30-40 minutes for them to call me back and take his detailed history, after which they came out, got his carrier and brought him in. They also told me not to leave the parking lot in case they needed me. For the next 2 hours I got no updates at all. I called them once to see what was going on, and the receptionist put me on hold for 5-10 minutes, said she couldn't get a hold of the emergency nurse and they'd call me back and give me an update. Another 30 minutes to an hour passed with no update, so I called them again. They put me on hold for 5 minutes, came back and said they hadn't looked at him at all yet (they hadn't even taken his vitals!) and that it would be at least another hour before I got another update. I asked them why they didn't just leave him out there with me if they weren't going to look at him yet anyway, and she said they could see about bringing him back out to me. At that point I told them I'd go somewhere else and asked them to please bring him back out, which they did. So all in all, I was sitting outside in my car for 3 hours after bringing my cat in on their recommendation. They kept him inside in his small carrier for over 2 hours inside the facility without me, didn't examine him in any way, and told me it would be at least another hour before they did. They didn't even check whether his bladder was blocked, which was the imminent danger and takes a vet all of about 20 seconds to check with their hands. I took him to another emergency vet 10 minutes away. I won't say which because I don't want this review to seem like an advertisement, but they let me actually come in and be with him, they checked his vitals within the first 10 minutes to make sure he didn't need immediate care, and when they verified that he had no blockage, they saw him in 30 minutes and spoke with me directly about his condition and my options. My experience with the SAGE emergency clinic was awful. Poor communication, poor service, an EMERGENCY clinic that ADVISED me to bring him in right away and then couldn't see him or even take his vitals within 3 hours. Ultimately he needed his kidney removed. I would have considered SAGE for surgery if it wasn't for my extremely poor experience with this emergency clinic. I ended up taking him all the way to UC Davis, but it was VERY worth it for the difference in quality of service. I felt like they were actually considering the comfort and needs of my pet while at SAGE it felt like they were doing my taxes. After over $8000 ! of surgery fees, and taking care of my cat through very tough recovery, four years later this is what I had to deal with - completely exposed metal plate and open wound ! (see the horrifying pictures).I contacted Sage and asked if the doctor who performed the surgery would fix it free of charge.Ha ! Hahaha, what a fool I was to think that.For a $210 consultation fee($53 of which I had to prepay over the phone as if it was some Michelin star restaurant) I saw Dr.Mark Dosch (who did the initial surgery) who had Cold, un compassionate approach "take it or leave it" kind of deal. He presented a hefty bill to remove the plate and told me "you get what you pay for".Well, I paid a small fortune in the first surgery so why am I sitting here four years later. Dr. Mosch gave me a "generous" 50% discount! So instead of $5900 I'd pay $2700-$2900 for plate removal. Woo-hoo ! I feel like Sage is big corporation all about money and less about pets. At least that's what my two experiences were. Do NOT go there.There is a clinic in Fremont Warm Springs that's where my cat had a plate removal. What a difference ! $1000 with NO HIDDEN FEES,ALL INCLUDED post op stitch removal, pills etc.They took us in two days for a plate removal surgery after I emailed them the pictures even though they are VERY busy.All their prices are on their website, no delays in seeing the furry patients it's like a perfectly working business with big heart. I am so impressed with their honesty and compassion I will always go to them.It's worth the drive. So to summarize - SAGE is a RIP OFF. I can't say enough about how wonderful the physicians and staff are at Sage Dublin. We are so grateful for the exceptional care our pup received, and that we received, as well. I called on a Sunday and they got us in the next morning for a surgical consultation and were able to keep our pup, June, and do the procedure that same day. The person bringing June in is elderly and on a walker and couldn't manage to bring her inside safely. The staff were incredibly kind, came out to the car and helped bring June inside and also took her back out to the car when she was ready to come home. After the surgery, Dr. Richardson made time for two separate phone calls to let both me and my dad know how June did. It might seem like a little thing, but I know how valuable her time is and a different person or hospital might've delegated that task. It was comforting to hear directly from Dr. Richardson how June did and her impression of the outcome. The professionalism, exceptional medical care, compassion, and expediency with which Sage Dublin managed this situation is so impressive. We had a big scare this summer when our poor puppers suddenly wasn't feeling so well. She was lethargic, didn't want to do anything, and was yelping in pain out of nowhere. We took her to our local vet, and he couldn't figure out what was wrong with her after a couple of weeks of medication, X-rays, and more medication...so he suggested we take her to a neurologist. I was freaking out, poor thing couldn't walk after a few weeks and didn't eat. She couldn't even go potty on her own anymore. Unfortunately, the SAGE center closer to us didn't have an appointment available until a few weeks later. We couldn't wait so ventured out to Dublin to seek medical help from Dr. Johnson. His team was helpful and very friendly. After an exam, it was determined that she was in pain and very uncomfortable - most likely from neurological issues. After another scan, they found a mass on her spine. Hoping for the best, and knowing that Nala was in good hands, we quickly scheduled her surgery. Luckily, it wasn't anything too serious! Although the process was stressful for us since we weren't around the area, the whole procedure was seamless. After the procedure, we received all the information to full recovery and Dr. Johnson was quick to respond to any inquiries via email/phone call. After a few days, she was feeling OH so great again. After a couple of months of bed rest, she is back to normal and only cares about belly rubs and more food! Dr. Ree the surgeon is extremely unprofessional, lacks compassion , and unethical. I brought my 16 yrs old Tervuren to have a consultation about a wound that is struggling to heal. First of all, I don't like this place bc they take your dog to the back to do examination. This lacks transparency. It's like examine a minor without her parent. After examine my dog, Dr. Ree comes in the room , sits with arms crossed and asked "what can I do for your dog?" This baffles me bc veterinarians are suppose to give be an assessment. She said she is not a dermatologist and can't do anything for my dog. I was shocked bc the vet tech said Dr. Ree is good with treating wounds and can get us in to see a dermatologist that she trusts sooner, cut the line. Instead, Dr. Ree wanted to biopsy the wound and said it wound leave a big hole that won't heal! My dog is 16 ! Not a candidate for anesthesia! She is in hospice at home. She is still eating, drinking well and has good energy level! She said non of this matters. Should evaluate her quality of life. No don't pressure me to euthanize her so you can make $700! First. she wanted to biopsy , when I said no, she started to deflect the blame on me for causing the wound by not supervising her 100% of the time in the garden. Dr. Ree was just bringing up all kinds of inappropriate accusations against me. She had such a negative body language and unkind words. She should be reported to the veterinarian board. 2 other veterinarians , one is a mobile vet who does in home hospice , said my dog is just old and it takes longer for it to heal. Both agreed that it's not time to euthanize bc she is still enjoying life. She is just an old dog and if the owner is ok with hospice care, then let her live out her natural life! My dog gets the best care, She goes to a veterinarian acupuncturist weekly and Scout's House physical therapy. Started physical therapy since she was 10 yrs old. $125 per 40 minute sessions! Dr. Ree was dismissive and cynical about all of this. Still spoke negatively about my parenting. What a terrible human being she is. She also agitated the wound. Very disappointed with Sage Dublin. The story is long but here is a small example of their business practices. My dog had multiple procedures and we spent over $13,000 in vet bills. Along the way, I had concerns because they provided "options" for treatment and high and low estimates. In my experience, (with multiple pups) the less evasive "optional" procedures never worked resulting additional procedures and surgeries. Plus, their costs always ended up on the high end of their estimate. Here is a simple example of Sage's questionable business practices. After my pup had surgery, Sage provided me canned dog food. My dog refused to eat all the food and I was left with about two cases of unopened canned dog food. I assumed I could just return the food since the cans were unopened and still sealed in the case. The receptionist said she had to check with another representative before returning. She then returned and said they could not return the food but offered to take the food as a donation. She said the dog food is considered a prescription and they were happy to take it as a donation but can not provide a refund. If it is a "prescription" why is it sold over the counter at Petco? I understand you are providing a service and running a business needs financial and people investment. While we were a "potential" opportunity and we were discussing quotes for the services you were exceptionally good and I was fairly confident about your abilities to assist my pet and us in our difficult time. When we hesitated to pay $1,500 for services that you weren't sure were necessary, you weren't pushy. We thought perhaps you understood our situation and hoped for the best. Once we came back as worried pawrents and requested for 1/3 of the quoted services we became irrelevant and no longer lucrative for you. I understand everything you did as it's a business and you want to make money, we all do. What gets me though is how you handled our emergency with the narrow lens of profit. Our situation initially needed $1,500 immediately to diagnose. The same situation 30 mins later become no longer critical while we sat for hours to get those blood tests. Could it be that the cost now was 1/3 and we weren't a lucrative opportunity anymore? Please consider being empathetic towards your patients and their pawrents, you might find an exceptional strategy for success. read more

This veterinary hospital is highly unethical. They charged me $1100 for three x rays I never saw. The administration seems fixated on taking all your money to help a sick pet. I believe they see your pet as nothing more than an ATM. I would never go back!!! Horrible business! read more

Six years ago we brought our 9 year old Cairn Terrier in for knee surgery. One knee down, had to do the other one and less than a week after release to regular activity she broke her leg chasing a squirrel. Needless to say we spent a great deal of time (and money) here and Annie received the best care. She's still going strong at 15. Fast forward to our most recent visit, this time with our 11 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Oliver. A couple years ago we moved up to the mountains where there is no specialty care close to us. Once our primary vet identified a heart issue we knew we needed canine heart expertise. I work rescue and have referred people for years to Dr. Waxman, a wonderful cardiologist. I considered a few options but decided to take my own advice, taking Oliver for a road trip to see Dr. W. It was well worth the 3 hour drive. I am confident that Oliver has received the best care possible. Absolute crooks! Do not bring your pet here if: 1) you want holistic, unified care; 2) you don't enjoy waiting on hold for 20 minutes routinely; 3) you're taken advantage of: charges $2200 in advance for a diabetic dog under their care for 5 months and told your dog needs to be kept for 24 hour observation without telling owner the diabetes monitoring device prescribed 6X is not accurate and underreqda glucose levels. When I was contacted by the Assistant Medical Director, there were no questions regarding our dogs health or care. Instead he FIRED the dog and owner from their care. I'll be contacting the State Board of CA as well as the Department of Consumer Affairs. They stole $2200 (you have to actually pre pay for a medical service) and didn't provide the care to a level or standard customary for veterinary practice nor ever contacted our dog's regular specialty Sage provider. Well this has been quite the ordeal for my lil cor -gle, Lulu...we've been coming here weekly since April and now every 2-3 weeks to see Internal medicine, Dr Ensley and holistic medicine, Dr.. Whitehead and her assistant Claudia The main reason for our visit was Lulu had jumped off my bed onto new flooring I just had installed (slick, smooth with no traction...perfect conditions) and well, basically did the splits on her back legs...she didn't show any problems until the 3rd day as she couldn't stand and was shaking in pain. Off to Emergency and told she pulled tendons and fortunately, no surgery! Whew...given pain meds and anti inflammatory, RIMADYL and sent home...lethargic, no appetite, no energy which I thought were from meds...4 days later she's shaking agn, no appetite and she sensitive to the touch....back to emergency! Blood test, ultrasound, X-rays, urine sample and saw her joints were swollen and filled with fluid... was diagnosed with IMMUNE MEDIATED POLYARTHRITIS which is similar to lupus in humans where ur body attacks itself....caused by the Rimadyl (1% of pets have an adverse reaction...Lulu was it! Sigh) Immediate discontinuation and 3 mos of treatments of steroids and immune suppressants to hopefully, reverse the issue or she'd end up immobile for the rest of her life. It's now July and after many follow ups, massage, laser and acupuncture treatments (and plenty of vet bills) Lulu is almost 98% back to normal with an increased appetite from the meds! Time to diet.... I can't blame Sage or anyone other than bad luck...believe me I went back and forth in my head (%#€&$!!! them!) and had to remind myself that I brought Lulu to Sage because I trust the doctors like Dr Ensley, Claudia and Dr. Whitehead to make the best decisions for her care and present options. Staff here is wonderful and informative and other than this major incident haven't had issue with Sage. Keep in mind that any medication (even holistic) there's a risk and unfortunately, one doesn't know until they do get a reaction. :( read more

My visit to Sage and the treatment I received was the worst experience of my life! On 9/1 between 5:00-5:30 am I brought my dog to Sage. She was a 12 year old dog with a history of a congenital eye/orbital abnormality (born with only one eye and incomplete formation of her socket with the absent eye, a history of a Spinal cord injury at the age of 1.5 years with residual right rear leg weakness and spasticity). I went in with the realistic expectation that we would likely be saying goodbye. She had acutely developed signs of distress since approximately 10:00pm the night before. She had been panting hard, pacing, repetitively drinking water and having intermittent full body shaking. On arrival I was met by a tech and I explained that she was in distress and may need to be euthanized. She was promptly taken in back for examination. The doctor came out to inquire what had been occurring. I relayed the findings and reiterated that she had been absolutely fine the day before with normal eating, drinking and voiding and the only additional thing I noted was that she was having soft stools. She asked and "what are your doing to treat her back symptoms and pain, as the signs she is demonstrating are often signs of pain. She is overweight with back issues and this is likely an acute exacerbation of her back." I explained that she had a multi-level decompression done at Sage and she has not had any acute event which would cause her to have a new injury. I was told that exacerbations were common and the vet herself mentioned that she had a back history with intermittent flare-up. At this point I began to question myself and my desire for no acute intervention and work-up. She provided me a quote for a work up that ranged from $2900-$4500. I was just about to sign of the line but wanted to speak with my husband first. After our phone discussion we decided not to pursue the work up as her quality of life had been progressively declining and she was 12 years old. I waited 45 minutes for anyone to return inquiring about my decision. A new tech arrived and I explained to him that we had decided to let her go, explaining that her quality of life was most important. He said that he need to review her record and was required to review the recommendation for work-up with me again. I explained that my decision had been made. Despite this, he forced me to review the recommendation then said he would speak to the vet. The vet returned after a significant period of time and I told her of my decision not to pursue care. She promptly told me that she could not morally put my dog down, this was an inappropriate course of action and wrong. She went on to say that If I wanted to pursue this line of care that I would need to find another vet, maybe go back to Bishop Ranch. I was shocked and obviously quite distressed by her response. I tried to explain my point of view that she was an elderly dog with a declining quality of life, who had already gone through so much and I did not want to put her through anything else. I explained that this was not a money issue, it was a quality of life issue. She continued to refuse, making me feel horrible and like I was not acting in the best interest of my pet. Recommending that I trial at least 72 hours of pain meds and following up with my normal vet. I reluctantly agreed to some work-up and this plan, feeling pressured to do so. She returned reporting elevated liver enzymes, indicating that the normal range was 10-150 and she was in the 300's. She stated that this can sometimes occur in older animals. At this point she stated that she would consider my request for euthanasia . I asked if we could do an ultrasound to further evaluation why her levels were elevated (this test was part of her original quote) I was told it really wasn't necessary as she would have to call a tech in to do the procedure and was told "they probably would not agree to come in anyway, with levels in this range" She said I should follow-up with Bishop Ranch in 72 hours. She also stated that since her liver enzymes were elevated she could not prescribe any anti-inflammatories only gabapentin. When I asked if her pain was any better, I was told yes. My dog was brought out to me in the same distress that I brought her in with. I asked for pain meds and was told that I could give her the gabapentin when I got home, that it would only take 20 min to take effect. My dog remained in distress, despite the meds all day. We were able to get into Bishop Ranch at 4:20 that evening. After a 1 minute examination by the vet she was found to have a temp, an extremely tender stomach with guarding and abdominal distension. An ultra-sound was performed and she was found to have a gallbladder mucocele with rupture. Unfortunately, she was so hypotensive by this point, an IV was unable to be placed and the euthanasia process was that much more painful for my dog, myself and my husband. On January XX 2017, Winston took his last breath here (tears). He was 17, loyal to me and the most obedient dog I've ever had. I will miss his funky skunky self forever. The only reason I took him here was due to my vets advisement. Winston developed a massive tumor the size of a softball on his chest, which I was hoping to surgically remove. But fate was not on his side, it had already grown too close to his lungs. After 6 months from the time he was diagnosed, he had seizures and a stroke that left him immobile. I don't know why but I took him back to Sage to put him down. I wished a million times I took him to his regular vet now. As the experience was 360 degrees different from my regular vet. I called the night before to make an appointment @ 11am the next day. They told me I could bring him in anytime. @11am, I was there holding Winston in my arms as he lay there half conscience. I couldn't speak. Everyone just stared at me hard. I was rushed into a room. Of course, no one knew that I made an appointment and kept asking me confusing questions that didn't pertain to what I originally came in for. I was already heartbroken and they just added anxiety and made me feel uneasy about the procedure. I literally had to ask them to slow down and find Winston's files so that we can take care of him in a calm relaxing environment. It felt chaotic, idiotic and messy. When it was over, I left Winston with a million and one kisses as he lays there in peace. I went to the receptionist desk to pay for the service. What took me back was a line item called 'emergency'. I told them that I called in advance, so, it couldn't be an emergency. But they explained to me that this bullshit line item was there as services rendered. It was either this price or pay for the specialty price, which was more. I told them that this item is confusing and lightly reasoned with them. Nope... there was nothing I could do about it. I was in no mood to argue as I just lost my fur-baby. So, I paid it with negative vibes. Putting your dog down is a dramatic experience on it's own. But with a staff so messy and so non-informative just adds unnecessary anxiety to pet parents. Not cool. read more
