We were then told that if we could not do so, we needed to leave. We were not trying to ignore the restaurant's rules. If someone had clearly explained the policy when we arrived, we would have followed it. What was upsetting was being allowed to sit down and start our dinner without being told about the restriction, only to be confronted about it in the middle of our meal. We simply paid our bill and left rather than create a problem. I completely understand that restaurants can have rules about pets, and we are happy to respect reasonable rules. But those rules need to be communicated clearly and consistently, especially before customers are seated. The way this situation was handled felt unnecessary and very uncomfortable. I hope management can use this as an opportunity to make the pet policy clear to customers and ensure that all staff communicate the same information from the beginning.
