With the surprise closure of Red Flame, SO and I have been on the hunt for a new place for soup. As any fan of hot pot knows, there is a rare intersection of PRICE and QUALITY that makes a spot a repeat attraction. That makes it 'The' place to go, even if it's a little further out. I believe ZZ has the potential to be that place. When we stopped by it was empty. The menu was QR code only, I know this is a downside for some, not so much for me, but worth mentioning. There are 2 restrooms, single user, roomy and very ADA-accessible, the illuminated mirror is a very nice touch. And the food? First point is the price. You cannot beat this price, I believe. For two of us, our total was around $40-something. The food itself? Delightful. Attentive staff. The sauces available on the table were good. I did opt for mild heat level, since I like enjoying my food and not panting like I'm in Hell in this heatwave, and the broth was very good. A nitpick I often have with hot pot is that there is far too much cabbage, but in this case I felt like it was pretty balanced. All in all, I am excited to come by and give it another try. We ended up here after our first-choice hot pot place had a 1 to 1.5-hour wait, and we were so glad we did! We took a break from a hot, long day at Disneyland. They seated our party of five immediately. The service was impressively fast--they flip tables quickly and the food comes out in no time. Interior was clean, stylist and spacious. The food was fantastic across the board. My nephew had the Taiwanese pot and I got the Thai pot; both were amazing and packed with different meats, seafood, and veggies, offering rich, multi-layered flavors. My oldest sister tried the Miso pot, which was nicely mild. The portions are huge! My mother and other sister shared the garlic noodles and shaken beef, and I even got an extra order to go for my kids--the beef was perfectly seasoned and the noodles were super flavorful. We stopped here for late lunch/early dinner on our way home and it was worth it. The amount of food (hot pot + rice + drink) was great! We got the Mala Sichuan and tofu and seafood pots. Opted for medium spice for Mala and I might try a spicier version next time. They were both delicious and packed with lots of veggies and protein. Really great individual hot pot deal for weekday lunch. It's $14.99 for the pot and a kumquat drink so it's such a good deal, especially in comparison to Boiling Point which the prices for have gone up recently and there's always a long line there. I also love the unique flavor options here! I really enjoyed the Mongolian lamb pot, the flavor of the broth was good and the lamb wasn't too gamey. The Thai style one was like a tom yum soup base. Both pots came with endless amounts of toppings and a choice of vermicelli or rice. I love individual hot pot because you can try a little bit of a lot of different things. Service was fast and efficient and the interior is spacious and clean. I'll definitely be back when I get my next hot pot craving! read more

The broth is always flavorful and no dish is a copy of the other. They give out free tea drinks on occasion and refill your plate with more water if they see you run out of stewing broth. Two strikes so I've got to write. :( First incident: I had a good experience the first time I came here so I brought my husband and my sister back. Hubby ordered the salmon rice. The picture on the menu shows a piece of grilled salmon but what they brought out was totally different. Thank god, it was good anyway. Sister and I trying to order the same hot pot I ordered before and owner told us no, we cannot swap the pork belly out on the Thai hotpot. Told him I was able to do that before. He said "I'm not sure who let you do that but no, we do not allow that." I told him "you did, you let me swap the pork belly for the lean beef the previous time. I still have a picture of it on Yelp". Anyhow, he insisted No. We went ahead and ordered two beef hotpot's and the broth was salty. We had to pour some water in the hotpot to soften up the saltiness. Second incident: I came here on Thursday evening. Walked in that door at 9:10 pm and the server quickly told me: "No, we already had our last call!" Say what? the sign on the door says open til 10:00 pm and it is only 9:10 pm? If you don't want to serve late, then change your hours listed on the door and close those doors at 9:00 pm instead. Located in a plaza, parking was easy to find and plenty of neighboring restaurants. The space is well-lit and clean. We ordered the spicy duck blood and It was well made-- the texture and taste was spot on. For my meal, my hot pot was supposedly Japanese with miso but it tasted more like kombu (seaweed). Went into the restaurant during lunch hours and it was pretty busy. There was happy hour going on for $15 hotpots. I went with my mother and we shared a shrimp garlic with garlic noodles and the zz house special hot pot. The food was really delicious. Honestly I am not too fond of garlic noodles because they all taste the same to me, but when i saw this i was skeptical because it was a bit saucy. However, looks were deceiving because wow this amazed me. It was actually really yummy and garlicy and the sauce was perfect not too savory and not too sweet. Moreover, the hotpot was also really good, what I love about this place is how good their side sauces were . I think for me the sauces make/break how well the broth is because i do really enjoy dipping my food in it. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. I've been here twice now around dinner time during the weekdays and this is one of my new favorite hot pot places compared to Boiling Point. I'm usually able to order my food fast and it has a lot of veggies and meat. I really like the original beef and I like that there are no peanuts in the sauce. When you order you also get a free side of kumquat juice. Parking is quite abundant in this location. I really like the service and ambience as well as the staff are very nice and kind to explain any of the dishes and the seating inside is very modern with really pretty light so I really enjoy talking there as well. The salmon was very crispy and garlic noodles were very tasty. The garlic fried rice was good and the sauce with the salmon complimented it well. The shaken fries didn't have enough meat and had too much onions and bell peppers but the fries were still nice and crispy and the flavors were there. The complimentary honey kumquat drinks were refreshing. The water however was horrid. I thought coming out of a nice water pitcher that it was filtered but they said it was tap. There wasn't much of a "wow" factor. The broth kind of reminded me of pho, but without the hoisin or sriracha. I guess I was expecting a different flavor profile. Genuinely the worst hotpot I've had in my entire life and I've ate from at least 20 different places. Ordered the beef hotpot for takeout and to my surprise the bottom of the bowl contained endless amounts of cabbage that has went bad, noted by the slight bitterness. Many places do the same practice where they put cabbage at the bottom of the bowl to make the food seem more plentiful but this is just an absurd amount. Tried this spot the other night, and I gotta say, it's the best Boiling Point dupe out there. It was my first time here and I can confidently say that it was a great experience! I love that they use the Yelp waitlist so you can sign on before getting there. We arrived around 7pm on a Tuesday and there was no wait. The restaurant itself is an average size, probably seats like 40 people. We got sat in a booth and scanned the QR code for the menu. Their menu consisted of some popular Vietnamese staples like garlic noodles, hot pot, bobas, and your typical boba shop appetizers. We both got a beef hotpot and split the crispy couple which came with fried tofu and fried fish balls. The hotpot also came with a side of rice or vermicelli (I got rice). We also got to try their complimentary kumquat juice and it was so good! Our server was super friendly, and I love that they offer broth refills. I got my pot at a danger spice level and honestly, it wasn't that bad. It would probably be the same level spice as a medium at BP. The pot itself was filling and came with tons of meats and other proteins and veggies. This place really nails the soup flavor and I'm glad I got to try them out. I really wanted BP and since I've never had ZZ Hotpot but saw good reviews on this place, I came here to try. Pot menu options are very similar but the taste and the ingredients that go into the pot aren't identical. I tried the Korean Kimchi Pot. The ingredients are as listed: "Pork belly, cabbage, soybean sprout, enoki mushroom, chives, carrots, green zucchini, soft tofu, lobster ball, fish fillet, fish tofu, mini sausage, crown daisy, seaweed, kimchi" - There was a lot of cabbage. Most of the pot was cabbage. - Maybe a bite full of kimchi and soybean sprouts together only - A tiny bundle of enoki - A piece and a half of fish fillet - Mini sausage is spam - 1 lobster ball - 3 or 4 squares of soft tofu - Seaweed was a stack of cut roasted seaweed - 3 big semicircles of zucchini - 4 big cuts of carrot The taste was much kimchi sour forward, not so much meaty and deep. There's a lot of veg in this and sadly did not find noodles underneath. Each pot does come with your choice of a bowl of vermicelli or rice that has a sprinkle of furikake and a honey kumquat small drink (love this). For a medium spicy, it's a slow kick that isn't very spicy yet you'll find yourself dabbing your nose with a napkin. Overall, it's a good place alone if you don't compare it to the other restaurants. I am very curious how their drinks are. I'd give this place another try again with a different order. read more

Such an underrated restaurant! :) They offer a decent range of hotpot flavors and a bunch of other dishes as well! It was our second time coming and we were quite impressed. Compared to other hotpot places that we've been to, the flavors were pretty similar and had a decent amount of toppings. Our favorite part is that they offer a stamp card which is so unique! * Beef Hot Pot: 7/10 - good amount of meat and veggies * Thai Style Hot Pot: 8/10 - nice broth * Honey Kumquat Tea: 9/10 - my family enjoyed it We came when they first opened and there seemed to be only 1 person working during that time. Even though he was scrambling, he managed to serve all the tables efficiently. My sister and I believe he deserves more than he gets paid. The place is a lot more spacious than we remembered so there are plenty of tables to sit at. I've been waiting for a decent Taiwanese hot pot spot nearby for a really long time and ZZ Hotpot House is definitely hitting the mark! The ZZ Hotpot Special has the broth that's about 80% similar to the classic Taiwanese 3 mom Stinky Tofu hot pot brand (三媽臭臭鍋) which is already a win in my book! It even comes with a piece of pork blood cake and a few slices of pork intestine, trying to represent the authentic taste. (Almost there as my point of view.) The Taiwanese Spicy Hot Pot is served with beef slices by default, and unfortunately, they don't allow substitutions for pork slices so I skipped it this time. The Seafood and Japanese Hot Pot came with two fairly large shrimps, what a nice touch. Veggies are generously piled under the hot pot, so you get plenty of greens in every pot. They offer four different sauces each table for you to mix and customize to your liking. Compared to Boiling Point, this place has a more diverse selection of Asian-style hot pots, including flavors from Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Sichuan, Nanjing, and Mongolia. Right now, they have a happy hour deal (Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM) where each pot is just $14.95, and it comes with a free drink plus your choice of white rice or glass noodles, I consider super worth it!
