I live in Mira Mesa and was very excited to try this new gem. It was so good that I took my sister with me the next day! I like the spicy noodle soup #5 and the #6 ice tamarind drink. Its a good level of spiciness for me with a little bit of sourness like kimchi and richness from the pork bone broth. I came and ordered something to go this morning, they ran out of rice so the fried rice with crawfish was replace with garlic noodles and crawfish which was better than the fried rice, a bit spicy but really good. I also ordered the broken rice with pork chop and meatloaf and the bbq beef on the stick with sweet potato fries a crispy fried shrimp and steam rice roll. I also ordered the tamarind drink and black milk tea. A little slow on the service but the drink came out quickly, the lady asked me if she can replace the rice because they ran out of rice. I think that slows down the food more because they have to replace the fried rice. I just wish they have the tv playing even if they have Vietnamese movies or news going, I don't mind watching anything that will keep me busy while waiting or even music to keep me entertained. read more

Always check your food before eating Most of the food I've tried here is pretty decent. However, since the restaurant is still new, their system and service aren't very efficient yet. If you have a lot of time and don't mind if service is good or not, and you're mainly here for the taste, this place might be worth trying. Otherwise, be prepared for long wait times, either to receive your food or to be informed that your order is out of stock. Both times I visited, I waited over 30 minutes just to find out the item I ordered wasn't available. Personally, I didn't mind the wait, but it could be frustrating for others. In my last visit, I ordered their balut and was served a spoiled one. Unfortunately, I ate half of it and started noticing the strange taste, then checked the other half and discovered green-black moldy discoloration and signs of spoilage. Now I'm just bracing myself for the incoming food poisoning and hoping for the best. My recommendation: always check your food, stick with their noodle dishes for a quicker and safer experience, and avoid the balut for now as it can spoil easily and very harmful to eat. read more

Bad Vietnamese dishes! Ordered their snails (which were smelly despite having the kitchen recooked it) and rotisserie chicken (which were crazy salty). I came during lunch time and the inside was dark... I thought I was dining in Alcatraz prison. The 2 teen-aged waitresses were disappointing, as the elder kitchen staffs had to bring out our orders rather than them... while all they did were taking our orders and gossiping in the corner. I had an amazing dining experience at this authentic Vietnamese restaurant- Saigon Corner in San Diego, California last night. We went in a group so that it's a good chance to try a variety of food. My friend tried the Vietnamese pork noodle soup- Mì Gõ khô and it was perfectly cooked noodles with flavourful broth. I also tried the rice with fried chicken, and it was equally impressive. We also ordered wonton soup, and ox tail beef noodle which is really fragrant and tasty. We had milk tea, Đá Me (Tamarind and peanut), and orange fruit tea. All of them are comforting. I would give 0 stars if possible. Our experience did not meet the bare minimum expectation. We waited approximately 50 mins just for food that still had not come out. One dish came out before anyone else's with hair. When it was pointed out, the server pulled the piece of hair out of the dish and left the table. We were utterly shook. After 50 minutes of waiting for food upon being seated, we decided to leave and go to Ngon Ngon To-Go, which was a world of a difference in experience. The entrance faces the back of the building shared with Vinh Hung Supermarket, which is also sort of hidden unless you are specifically looking for it and have it mapped on a gps. Hu Tieu Saigon served in broth was excellent. Broth was flavorful and doesn't just taste like salt & sugar water. Rice noodles were cooked perfectly, not mushy or clumped together. At first I thought the fried fish dumplings were fried fish balls, but it's actually cha ca. I have never seen it that shape and size before so I'm guessing those were made in house. Shrimp was plump. Pork slices and ground pork were lean but not overcooked. There were little crumbles of chiccharon that brought the flavor up another level. I didn't care for the quail eggs but that's minor. I loved that they brought over the chili condiments without me having to ask. Even though the broth was already perfect without, I loved the lightly pickled garlic slices, jalapeños, and light colored chili paste. The sweetness from my coconut kumquat drink balanced out all the heat that I added to my bowl. It has little cubes of coconut jelly and tastes like sweetened coconut water with kumquats -- not a coconut milk drink. Can't wait to try the rest of their menu. read more
