This is my favorite Pho place in town! I do wish they were open in Sunday's but I do understand. I usually order a small Pho with either lean steak or brisket. I also like the Thai Iced Tea. It can become crowded around dinner time which I usually place an order for pick up. It's also crowded on colder days but of course people would love to have Pho on a cold day. Having been spoiled by the great amount of pho in the SoCal region, especially in the OC and SGV areas, it's always difficult to find a place near my place on the westside where I can get something remotely decent. I've tried several places in the Culver City and West LA area and all have failed to impress. I thought that my only recourse was to make the trek out to my favorite haunts (at least 40 minutes away) to get one of my favorite Asian comfort foods. While out and about (and starving) in the Lawndale area, we used our favorite App to find some lunch. As it turns out, a pho place popped up with great reviews so we made a beeline towards it. I always order pho tai and spring rolls when I check out a new pho place. I feel these two dishes showcase the quality of the establishment and S.D. did not disappoint. Rich, flavorful broth with a decent helping of rare steak (that wasn't very fatty) and vegetables held it's own. The inclusion of the tray of vegetables they brought out made it even better. The quality of the produce was extremely fresh, with the basil leaves looking extremely fresh and vibrant. The spring rolls were a combination of shrimp and pork (Goi Cuon) which was delicious, with a nice crunch from the fried wonton within. This is the only Vietnamese place that I have tried in South Bay so far. I didn't know what to expect since I had amazing Vietnamese foods when I used to live in San Gabriel. it has been busy every time I visited. The interior is nice and clean. The staff is really nice and their service is fast. I only tried handful of dishes there (Pho, vermicelli, Spring rolls, egg rolls, and porridge). I liked most of foods that we have tried so far. Foods are decent but I did not like their porridge. I am not sure if it is supposed to be that way or I just did not get the best version. It was quite different from what I expected it to be. It was very thick and lumpy. The flavor was a bit strong but personally, I did not enjoy it. My taste buds for Vietnamese foods are spoiled in San Gabriel, so compare to them, I still prefer pho in San Gabriel. I know it may not be fair to compare this location to ones in different location but I have not tried other places in this area yet, and i just had better in the past. Don't get me wrong though because I have been going there often and I will be going back there. I think it is a decent Vietnamese place for the area and maybe I can update my review if I get some more comparison in other Vietnamese places around the area. Disappointed. Maybe I went to this place with high expectations from all the good reviews here. Yelpsters usually are good but you let me down this time. Pros: Price - pretty good. Slightly cheaper than pho so 1. Cleanliness - floor and table seems to pretty clean. Customer service - he seems to know customers by name. And seems like a nice guy. And he speak fluent english. Parking - lots of it. Cons: Broth - too weak. Really lacks that deep flavor of meat and bone. Portion - too small. Skimping on ingredients. Never delivers what is pictured. #17 - I have ordered this twice. Never received the wontons in the picture. False advertising. Be careful. Spring rolls - I agree with the other review being skimpy on the rolls. Very Iittle ingredients packed inside. Overall....pho so 1 food still superior I feel. I came here for a buddy's bday dinner a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't eaten Vietnamese food in years! I thought "who goes to a Vietnamese restaurant for their bday?" but went cheerfully anyway. I am sooooo glad I did. Food is amazing, restaurant is very clean and well setup, staff is awesome, and the owner (I think he's the owner) John is a really cool guy. I am now also addicted to their Vietnamese iced coffee, it blows Starbuck's out of the water! I've only been here twice now, but am looking forward to many more meals here. If you want my recommendation on something, get the egg rolls, wrap them in the lettuce they give you, then dip in the sauce and eat. You will be immediately addicted. I can taste it now!! read more

I used to come here often probably 7-8 years ago? It was back when the restaurant wasn't remodeled so big. It was quite a pleasant surprise to see the place thriving. The owner is still here and seems to have the same friendly personality. He doesn't remember my family since we all grew up, but it was nice seeing how well the establishment has become. Anyways, on to the food, it was a little bit cheaper than the other pho restaurants I have tried. I got #7 which was the typical pho with tendon, meat, etc. It was satisfying and I was filled. Went with coworkers for lunch. The place gets crowded but the workers will move around tables to accommodate and get people seated and I liked that. I ordered the spicy noodles which is basically pad thai and it was not disappointing. Didn't need to add anything to it, everything was the right balance. lots of variations of pho. i went with the chicken pho with extra shrimp.. everything was fresh, the soup hot, and there was an abundance of chicken and shrimp. also there are different types of vietnamese soups from various regions, along with other dishes. their vietnamese coffee is extremely delicious, sweet with a unique coffee flavor. i believe they make it with 3 or more types of coffee. lots of tables and chairs. the decor is nice, relaxing and has a nice modern vietnamese theme to it. and the restrooms are clean. service is friendly. read more
