Theis pho place is a small restaurant most likely for the vietnamese customer. I order a pho and asked if i could have it with tendon and tripe only. The did not comply. I ordered the fresh spring rolls (which were on the small side) and the C-11 which is fried spring rolls over vermicelli & veggies. Those spring rolls were tiny as well. When I ordered the girl asked me how spicy I wanted my C-11.... I paused and looked at her kind of crazy. In all my life eating at Vietnamese restaurants I've NEVER been asked how spicy I wanted a spring roll. But it was the sauce that came on the side. My fresh spring rolls barely had any shrimp, and the shrimp were tiny. My fried spring rolls on too of my bun (rice vermicelli noodles) looked anorexic. I love this place!!! They have amazing spring (fresh) rolls, the C3 Lemongrass Chicken, is my all time favorite, I get it hot and add tofu . Their Pho is also great. Honestly I have had many dishes and I have not been disappointed. Beware though, if you mess your order number up they will not exchange or refund. Me and my wife came here for dinner waited in line for a while thinking it would be good. Once we sat down the waitress came over and said the dish my wife ordered had run out. Ok that happens then when they brought our appetizer out and it was the wrong one. I know there are a lot of positive reviews of this place and because of that I went in with high expectations that this would be my go-to place from now on, and it wasn't the case. Overall I wasn't impressed and would reluctant to recommend it to other people. The 3 stars are mostly thanks to her. The price was higher than what you can see in these Yelp pictures, so you are expecting to pay around $8-10 for an item instead of $6-ish, and what you get doesn't seem to justify the price. I am Vietnamese and I have been to many restaurants in California, Missouri, Oklahoma, and other Texas cities so I know how ethnic/specialty food is priced higher but I don't feel like I got my money's worth here. The quality of the food was okay. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything impressive. My wife got Bun Bo Hue and it was somewhat sad-looking. I tried some rice noodle mixed with egg and meat and it was the first time I had the dish (i.e. it's not something you can find in any other Vietnamese restaurants or in Vietnam, at least not easily.) It's like a long-lost cousin of Pad Thai without the lime juice. So it was good, the taste was quite pleasant so I enjoyed eating the whole plate. But I would rather get a Pad Thai. The portion was on the smaller side for sure (which explains why I could easily finish the whole thing). Unless you are an avid food challenge contender, usually you would expect to have some food left to bring home with, but not at Saigon. So if you are a poor college student wanting to milk 2 meals out of this, it would be 2 rather small meals. My husband has been going here for years but I myself haven't ever tried it, until today. He had the C22 and I had the C23. Both dishes were super yummy! Great portion sizes and flavor. We also got an order of egg rolls which were very fresh and tasty. The cleanliness and size of the restaurant were great, and we even came during what seemed to be the lunch rush. I love Vietnamese food and I specifically go to Saigon over other Vietnamese restaurants to have Vietnamese Vermicelli Bowl called "Bun" (C11 and C12). Basically, it's a bed of lettuce salad topped with chilled vermicelli noodle, various veggies (cucumber, carrots, peanuts, herbs), and grilled marinated pork or eggrolls. It comes with some sweet vinegar dressing to be tossed. Their grilled pork is so flavorful and their eggrolls are always fresh! And, the noodles are cooked just perfectly. For a guy that used to live in Houston, I've had my share of Pho. This place has got the right stuff when it comes to authenticity. The service on the other hand is a little quirky. I ordered the V-3 and they brought me the B-3. I informed them that dish is not what I ordered and they, in effect, told me "sux being you. If you want what you ordered, you have to reorder and pay for what you initially wanted, and no refund on what you didn't order." Made sense to me when she pointed to the sign saying something like make "Make sure you order correctly, because if we miss understand and screw up it is your fault." We quit coming here when we were waiting in line and a customer brought a pho up to the register and complained that there was a Band-aid in it. A BAND-AID! He showed it to the woman at the counter and, instead of being apologetic, she basically said, "Don't blame me! The cook did it!" and was extremely rude to the poor guy. I have been eating on and off at Cafe Saigon for over 20 years, even when they were located at Quaker and 50th (now location of One Guy from Italy). I have found their food very consistent in quality. My favorite is probably the V2, but I like a lot of their items. Good casual food place, great for lunch and non formal dinner. Family owned and clean place. I recommend them without hesitation. The current reviews do not reflect this restaurant accurately.
