I love food trucks and Vietnamese food, but this one wasn't the best. It was okay. For the Spring rolls, it tasted good, but the ingredients had more to desire. They should had put more meat and vegetable. The sandwiches were okay. It definitely did not blow me away. The cold coffee was good (if they didn't make that right, then this place would had been bad). I grew up eating these things, so I might be harsher on the rating of the food. I do not get the good reviews here. If you're looking for an authentic Banh Mi place, this is not it. The pork is way too thick, the pickled carrots is not even pickled. And the biggest sin of all, no paté. Not a fan of the spring rolls either. This place fails hard. My favorite food truck in Austin, hands down. Also one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. I'm completely and totally addicted to this place. There are some things I look for in a food trailer, specifically because it's a food trailer: Simple menu with options for everyone; consistent quality; short wait times; consistent hours; fair price/portions. So many of the food trailers I frequent fall short on at least one, but usually several of these things. SLV nails them all. The Banh Mi is always perfect. I've tried all the protein options and they're all done exceptionally well. The rolls are soft and buttery but sturdy enough to hold everything together. I've never gotten anything but fresh produce from here. I don't get the vermicelli often but every time I've had it it's been on par with the banh mi. If you're a coffee drinker their Vietnamese iced coffee is a great after meal treat. Egg rolls, spring rolls, I could go on and on. Let me just stop here so I don't keep you from giving these lovely people your business. read more

I LOVE this place! Very friendly service, fresh food, fair prices... The spring rolls are made to order and probably the best I have had in Austin. The grilled tofu was still warm and the lettuce, mint and fresh jalapeno (special order) were still chilled and crisp. Amazing texture and the peanut sauce is tasty. I have not had the vermicelli bowls yet but the banh mi are always delicious (though more expensive than what you will find in North Austin). The only reason this place did not get 5 stars is because the parking is a bit of a hassle, seating is also a little odd and 7th ST. can be noisy... All location issues. I really love the fresh banh mi with pork patty( cha lua) kinds of like American Ham with cilantro and picked carrots and add an over-easy on top of it. OM...Yummy...My mouth waters already when talking about their banh mi. Plus, just add a few more bucks, you can have a cup of deliciously and strongly Vietnamese milk coffee. Saigon Le Vendeur is aesthetically appealing from the physical container design, menu design and food presentation. I tried the grilled pork vermicelli bowl and will definitely be returning to try the remaining menu items. The menu is pretty simple and consists of vermicelli bowls and banh mi with your choice of meat. The grilled pork has a distinct flavor - slightly charred, sweet, savory and just the right amount of smokey! The veggies were fresh, and I loved the occasional crunch of the fried garlic/onion scattered throughout the bowl. Their house sauce, garlic chili fish sauce was delicious as well and not overly salty. The serving of meat was extremely generous and I loved having a few spare pieces of pork to end the meal on a high note after finishing the rest of my bowl. Their staff is friendly, patient and helpful and their outdoor seating area is enjoyable and dog friendly. After reading multiple good reviews on the ramen, I'll definitely have to try that next time. To the multitude of Houston natives claiming the bahn mi isn't up to your standards give it a rest! We get it, you're from Houston (which I gather you mention frequently and apparently is supposed to be some kind of badge of honor?) and thus your bahn mi palate is so much more refined! In response, here's my life story: After growing up in Austin I spent five years in Houston (for school) before moving back to Austin as quickly as I could. It's sort of fitting that in the bahn mi of my life, Houston is the forgettable meat section. I had bahn mis from several places in Pollutiontown (I mean Houston). Maybe I wasn't hip enough to go to the places you went to, but the bahn mi I had were filled with fatty, stringy pork that was disproportionately small compared to the bun. This thing was huge with overflowing meat and veggies. The bread was perfect and I absolutely enjoyed eating it although I was stuffed after the first half. A very solid meal that requires an adventure to an unusual location. In a bright red shipping container that sits next to the MetroRail tracks, these folks are spinning up some authentic eats that will leave your heart, wallet, and taste buds content. I was a bit confused by the blue truck that has the business' name emblazoned on it, which sits on the adjacent side street and is always dark and empty when I drive by. This is not where you order... if only I'd figured that out the first time I tried visiting! Anyway, the actual eating area is a bit pieced together. The shipping container was redone with wood paneling on the front, which makes it look more odd and appealing. There are a few picnic tables next to it, and a long narrow seating area stretches out in the shaded back part. Kind of a like a mini-oasis. As for the food, it's got plenty of flavor. They offer cheap banh mi sandwiches and cheap vermicelli noodle bowls, and a few sides like egg rolls. I tried a grilled pork banh mi, and it did not disappoint. All the usual condiments - carrots, daikon, cilantro - were super fresh and piled on. The meat was tasty, a little tough or fatty in places, but a great blend of saltiness and sweetness. The bread soaked up the seasonings and elevated the whole experience. One of the better banh mi dishes I've had, though not the best. Don't count it against them. Haven't lived in Austin in roughly 10 years but come back around the holidays to see family. I was driving through East Austin to head to an art expo around 1:30 in the afternoon and wanted to grab something quick to eat. I spotted the random Le Vendeur food truck from afar and decided there was enough traffic to make the pit stop. (Came into this place completely blind) I parked about a block away and walked up and was greeted by the one of the three people in the old cargo looking truck. The gentleman took our order and in no exaggeration we received the food 30 minutes later. The food was absolutely OUTSTANDING, but the only knock on Le Vendeur Saigon was the time it took for that delicious bahn mi to be cooked to order as well as our delicious spring rolls. The food was great but I have to admit the drinks were really what made this meal exceptional for me! My husband and I ordered: - Bhan mi - Vietnamese coffee - Jasmine tea - Vermicelli bowl Everything that we had was delicious! I can definitely see what the hype is all about. I guess for me the only reason I'm not giving five stars is it was a little overpriced for a food truck but more importantly my husband does these dishes much better at home. I'm not married to a chef but definitely someone who takes risks in the kitchen and I didn't find anything inventive about this food. That being said I did very much enjoy it and for anyone who hasn't had either of these dishes I would highly recommend this spot! I hopped on my motorcycle put on my gear turned my music on and had a beautiful ride through the city on a beautiful day and ended up here. I had two different types of Banh Mi. I wish i had a larger stomach so I could have gotten a third (one is enough for a regular human). I took my number and looked for a seat in the odd urban garden filled with statues of what I can only assume are spiritual beings. I waited patiently and admired the scenery around me. Then they brought my food out. I was not prepared for what I saw. I stared at my food for a second because I was unsure of which one to eat first so I just chose the one on the left for reasons unknown. My first bite was spectacular my last bite was depressing I didn't want the meal to end . I cursed my fullness and hopped back on the motorcycle to return to my office and plan out the next time I would be coming here. I think this place is owned by a father and son. Stopped here for our second dinner one night in Austin ;) We ordered the O.G. Banh Mi, the Grilled Pork Banh Mi, and the pork spring roll, and the tofu spring roll (both are "summer rolls" - aka not fried). The banh mis were delicious and fresh, with a good amount of meat in both of them. The spring rolls were alright, not the best we've had as we usually would go to a legit Vietnamese pho place for these. The rolls didn't have the traditional herbs in them and had more vermicelli than usual. The pork spring roll is not the grilled pork in the banh mi - I actually think it was spam that they blackened on the griddle. I didn't mind it since I love me some spam but I can see how it could be misleading! The tofu spring roll was more on the bland side since the tofu was not seasoned. The rolls come with a sriarcha peanut dipping sauce that adds a bit more flavor and spice. We took our food to go since it was cold - would be nice if they had some heat lamps for people to sit by and wait/eat! read more

Amazing Banh Mi. Both the OG (typical style) and BBQ pork were great. They're generous on the pickled veggies and also throw in the cucumber spear--something you don't always get. Noodle bowl is nice, but really doesn't compare to the Banh Mi. The spicy chicken in the bowl and the BBQ pork banh mi really are spicy (BBQ pork had jalapenos + seeds in them), I had a hard time finishing them both! Probably Medium/Hot.
