I have been coming to this restaurant since the 90's. For the most part, the food has always been great. This is one of my go to spot when I am craving vietnamese food. My partner and I ordered the Vietnamese Egg Rolls (#1. Cha Gio) and the BBQ beef served with vegetables and rice paper (#344. Bo Lui Nuong). Their egg rolls never fail me. It was serve crispy and hot accompanied by a plate of fresh lettuce, mint and nuoc nam (fish sauce). The BBQ beef was delicious and grilled to perfection. I love how they seasoned the beef. The plate of vegetables was so fresh. I like their version of the nuoc nam because it is not too sweet and it doesn't taste watered down unlike other places. The service is pretty straightforward and simple. I go mainly for the food. For the price, value and yumminess, you can't beat it. read more

I went here for lunch a few months ago, ordered spring rolls, pennywort drink and a bowl of Pho bo. The spring was stale, and they tried poisoning me with the pho. All of this because I used a credit card to pay for it. The time before that the spring rolls was stale, too. But, I was a forgiving person and thought that it was unintentional- until the last time. Anyways, an hour after leaving, with most of my food not eaten, I started feeling nauseated and my stomach was roaring and hurting. A little bit after that, I threw up the little food I had ate. I'm not really a lobster type of guy, so I'd say I'm more of a crab man, but having tried the lobster at Saigon, my mind has definitely opened up a bit. The lobster who sacrificed his life for our Saturday night flavor was indeed a meaty one. Weighing in at 2.3 lbs, we were both able to stuff ourselves with his goodness. I've had sautéed lobster before, but usually at Asian weddings and I never really remember how good they really taste compared to the traditional accompaniment of steak with lots of butter. So yes, I have now changed my mind regarding lobsters, as long as they are Asian. A few other dishes that we tried were the nem cuon, a spring roll with grilled minced meat loaf - delicious. The second dish was the crispy noodle with pork which was delicious as well. Don't be scared when you drive up, yes it's in a run down location, but it's delicious. I have been coming here for a long time. The menu is HUGE! It took a few visits before we figured out what everything was. There can be a little bit of a language barrier with the waiters. It helps to ask what someone else is eating, if you see someone eating something that looks good. The food is always fresh and the service is friendly. You can call ahead and get the food packaged for pick up. They have always gotten our order correct when we do this. read more

I haven't been here forever! This place has been here since I was in high school. My mom still lives in the area and I like the fact that they open late on Fridays and Saturdays (till 11p) so we don't have to trek up to the Convoy area in search of late night dinner. It's the same location, same decor, same menu. I like the variety of their menu and you can definitely find something for everyone. Mom had the Beef Pho (standard bowl of Pho) and I had the Combination Stir Fried Noodles, which is wide rice noodles, stir-fried with vegetables (bok Choy, carrots, cabbage, straw mushrooms, baby corn) and assorted meats(beef, chicken, shrimp). This was very good and large portioned. I had to take the rest home cause this little piggy was stuffed! I came here for a group dinner and we ordered the one that was for 6-7 people. We had many dishes that stood out. The ones that stood out is the "ca kho to", the sauce was one of the best I've had (keep in mind I eat a lot of Viet food at home). The sauce had this burnt caramel flavor, which I love drizzling with my bowl of rice. The canh chua was good, a little sweet, but the broth is too oily. The shrimp was great, and sweet. The fried pork wasn't something I enjoyed. The steamed catfish was good and very big! The clams were good with lots of ginger flavor! read more

Huge menu, wide selection of everything you can name of that is part of the Viet cuisine. Unfortunately, I did not like the com tit nuong. I figured I'd get the regular pork chop, but nope. It seems like chunks of blended meat (curry-like marinade). Not my cup of tea. Pho was ok, they kind of went overboard on the noodles though--so it soaked up a lot of the broth. This is a pretty good Viet restaurant for the money. They have a large selection of food ranging from pho to seafood entrees. I ordered the combination pho (first on the pho menu) and it tasted very authentic and delicious. The various meats and broth were all super flavorful and portions were really large! Only downside is that the interior looks like it has not been updated for over 20 years. The air and eatings utensils felt a little dirty. If you have OCD like me and can't stand it being a little dirty, don't come here. If you are fine with that, great place to check out! read more

My brother got pho and he said it was decent but didn't like the noodles. We also tried the seafood fried rice it was very oily and barely any seafood. Don't even bother with the service. Wow I haven't stepped foot in the joint in a very long time. Nothing has changed about this place at all. Same decor and setup. My temple is close by and my family decided to come in for lunch afterwards. We decided to order the family size meal for 4-6 people. Comes with sweet and sour catfish soup plus a few other dishes. It's the best deal rather than ordering separately. It was way too much for us though. We ended up taking home a ton of left overs. All the food was good, really good flavors in the catfish. I also ordered cashew shrimp, it is stir fried shrimp in this really light sauce. It came with onions, bell peppers and cashews. It was really light and good. The left overs were even better the next day. They have fresh seafood here too. I took my niece around to see the fish tank and the crabs. Terrible service. They first mixed up our orders and didn't serve us for another hour. However, the server then set down a random plate of food that wasn't ours in front of us and spilled it everywhere. When asked if that was the correct pho order he simply said "I don't care" and kept telling us we should know where our food went. It's funny to review this place because it was the first pho restaurant I ever went to about 15 years ago.. And instantly I was hooked for a once a week pho fix. Now one of the reasons I gave this a 4 star is because of how many menu options you have.. It's pretty amazing with over 350 options!! Salty pork is amazing!! 7 course beef is also one of my favorites!!! Pho is okay but better elsewhere. I know that now. I've come a long way in pho since starting at this place. This was a classic haunt of mine from the past. First experienced pho here and wasn't a fan then, but it's from here its not the best, good but not best. However I have never had a bad broken rice dish from this place! The #67 char grilled beef with fried egg was my staple that or the Combo with Egg loaf/shredded pork along with the egg rolls (chå giò), can you say drool? Service has improved as back then the waiters (the one we seemed to get always) were slow and neglectful. Still a bit slow now and a tad neglectful but truly can't be upset when we're going in right before close. The place has been cleaned up and the big fish tank looks nice and not like the swamp it did back in the day. They have live crab/lobster but haven't tried it here. No 5 star but definitely a good bite when you're craving. Will be back again to see if they have maintained or went back to old ways. read more

Two people in my party recieved their Pho, 25 min after my plate touched the table. Ive been to a fair share of Pho spots, it should not take that long. My GF, ordered Crispy Chicken, got hers 40 min after my plate touched the table, and this is after the server comes back and forth saying she will get that ready. I have not touched my food the whole time. Not gonna eat if my GF's food hasn't arrived. Here is the kicker, I noticed we were getting our food before the people that were already there!! I asked for the manager, waitress says, "He is busy". So I did not get the chance to ask if it was right to pay for the food. Well, we paid for the damn food and that is why I am reviewing. When I opened the container with the noodles and meat and pulled out the noodles, a black fly crawled out of the beef - so gross. I know the flys are bad this time of year in San Diego, but for it to get into the takeout container is next level. I threw out some of the meat and decided to take my chance with the rest since there was so much. I came here today for the first time and it was the worst decision of my life. Do not come here during your lunch break, you will regret it. They took 45 minutes just to get my order wrong. I told the idiot cashier that I wanted shrimp egg rolls and egg noodles with shrimp and instead I received shrimp spring rolls and mint white noodles. I did not argue with them because my lunch break was already over, I really needed to head back to work, and I didn't want to get in trouble with my boss.
