Still the best Hawaiian food in Washington! Can't wait to try their new Bellevue restaurant.

Had a craving for some Hawaiian plate! Saw this on Yelp and drove down. It's seemingly co-located with Mas Pika. I chose to stick with Hawaiian. Got a combo with mochiko chicken and braised chicken. Both were great. The mochiko was maybe a bit over-fried. Mac salad was good. I think has tuna in it which I don't like but it wasn't over powering so I didn't notice. Woman at the front was helpful to suggest best dishes to try. Inside is very small. Like 3 tables. It's in a bit of industrial area so not a lot of space outside as well. I ate in my car which was fine for me but if I was with others we wouldn't have been able to sit. We don't live terribly close so I didn't want take-away for fear it wouldn't be as fresh. I also got Spam Katsu music which was great! Would come back when I have my craving again!!! read more

I've been coming to Saimin Says for many years and haven't been disappointed at their former Kent location and I finally got to try their new (but not so new) current location and to my surprise I felt very disappointed. Im not quite sure if this is the same owners or not but the food didn't taste the same. Maybe I caught an off day who knows? My party happened to get the chili with rice, garlic shrimp and spam katsu moco. Sadly, all were mid at best. Kinda weird to say it but it didn't feel like there was love behind the food. Usually when eating here I get that comfort feeling that makes me happy..but today was not the case. Maybe I'll come back in the future and give it a chance again but at the moment I do not see me coming back anytime soon. read more

Alright . . . spam katsu musubi is now a game changer! And ~$2 it's a steal (compared to regular heater lamp musubi at Uwaijima for $3.99!!) We also got the mochiko/shoyu chicken and the lau lau plate and everything was tasty! The shoyu chicken sauce was drinkable and the lau lau plate really did have fish in it (instead of just saying there's fish but you can't really find it). The mac salad was on point (has tuna if that's your jam) and the prices on the plates feel like the good ol' pre-Covid days! SUCH a hidden gem in this area. Plenty of parking in the area and literally everything on this menu is absolutely delicious. I've been to Hawaii a few times and this place tops most of the places there actually. Prices might look a little bit expensive, but serving sizes are huge. Like most Hawaiian places are favorite was definitely the kalbi. It was great to see how many people were locals or regulars while we were eating. We had a long layover in Seattle so I figure why not take a Lyft and grab some local food. Well the name of this place is what grabbed me! It's a little hole-in-the-wall joint in a small business area. They got a lot of choices so it was hard to choose, but we got a few things and just split it. The chicken Katsu was really good, chicken was tender on the inside and the panko was nice and crispy, sauce was good too! Pocho Min was good, the Portuguese sausage was cut into thin strips and friend before put into the Saimin, it was a little spicy so it gave the Saimin a kick. Really good, I'd recommend it. The short stack was just regular pancakes, just to even out the sweet to the savory and soup we had. It's a small little place with a few seats, but in the time we were there, we saw a lot of people come in to eat or pick up their to-go orders. If we return to the area we will definitely stop by again and try other menu items. Give it a try if you're in the area. read more

Location is tucked away but absolutely worth the visit. Super friendly staff who helped explain some of the dishes to me when ordering. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While the dinning area is a little small I always just take my food to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The mocoloco is absolutely amazing and the spam musubi is a must grab everytime. This place is located near Ikea and I always order ahead and pick up since I'm usually about 5 mins away and the space is pretty small so there's not a ton of seatings. I get the kalbi short ribs every time and it's cooked perfectly each time and very flavorful by far one of my favorite places to get short ribs. I've tried the loco moco it's good but not my fave but good enough to satisfied cravings. Prices are reasonable compared to most places so definitely a plus for me read more

Haven't been here in over 8 years! Used to come here all the time when they were in Kent then I moved to another state. Just moved back to Seattle and had to come back and thrilled they are still around! Sad they had to downsize from the Kent location. Ordered my old favorites-- the shoyu chicken, chicken cutlet combo and can't forget a spam musubi! Everything was amazing. The Shoyu Chicken tasted just like a shoyu chicken plate lunch from rainbow drive inn Hawaii and the Katsu was perfectly deep fried, had the perfect amount of crunch. Their Mac salad is legit, which is hard to get at a Hawaiian restaurant in Seattle! The Musubi is giving off 7-11 Hawaii vibes! I love this place! They play local Hawaiian music which makes you feel right at home. Steady flow of customers so you know it's good! Will definitely come back and hopefully be a regular again. read more

This location has so many great options! They serve breakfast in addition to lunch and dinner options. My daughter loves the kalua pork with cabbage and hurricane fries and I like to get a little taste of Guam with the pork belly bowl. If I just need a snack, the spicy spam musubi is the best in the state. Service is always friendly and we have never had a long wait. Did take out of spam katsu musubi, mochiko chicken, loco moco The spam katsu tasted more like a corn dog and rice portion was huge compared to the spam size and ketchup base sauce? Loco moco was avg. unfortunately not enough gravy so towards the end it was dry. Rice portion is small like other review but don't mind. Only downside was no overeasy option on the egg. Mochiko chicken was pretty good except it was too sweet and more like chicken bites and no big pieces. Hard to find good Hawaii food in PNW so overall food was above avg. but not a place I would come back over and over Hawaii music playing when I walked in and very friendly but has this old building smell which is unfortunate def more for take out and not a place to sit and eat read more

This place was alright. It is inside an industrial mall office space. It is the same area as Aloha Grill. Food was alright. Kalbi was $18.95. The mac salad had some bits of tuna in it but the mayo tasted different. I may not come back if there is Aloha Grill. read more

Here in Seattle to visit Ohana. Mo Was hungry so we decided to stop near the Mall and grab something to eat. The location is in an office / industrial area. The seating area is very limited - less than 10 tables. I ordered the chicken katsu curry, Mom had the Saimin and Portuguese sausage musubi. My sister had the garlic shrimp. We didn't have to wait long to get our food. Mom and I were pleasantly surprised at how large the serving size was. We both enjoyed our meal. Sister, however, was disappointed with the shrimp. It was over-cooked. It looked so good. At least they gave her some lumpia to make up for it. I'd go back again, but not For The garlic shrimp. read more

It makes me sad to give a mediocre rating to a small business - maybe my expectations were too high from the high Yelp rating. We made a visit to ikea and I was super excited to find such a highly rated place to grab lunch right around the corner. We stopped by and placed our order and my husband told me the wait would be 25-30 min. I said "it's fine"- I was super excited to try it and figured we were already there. One of the workers was kind enough to bring the food to our car. When we got the food I realized there was one less dish than our order - they only gave us 3 dishes when we ordered 4. My husband went back in and turned out the cashier forgot to put in the saimin that I ordered. They said it would be another 15-20 min to finish that ....no thank you. I realize there's only one person in the kitchen but damn...they really need to speed up the operations there. The wait is just crazy. 15-20min for a noodle dish?! Disappointed, we drove back home with our loco moco, kalua moco, chicken katsu and spam katsu musubi side. Pros- chicken katsu was very tender. Spam musubi was also yummy. And the macaroni salad was tasty. Portions were also big. Cons- damn the Gravy in the loco moco and kalua moco was crazy salty!!! My husband has a pretty strong palate and likes things flavorful and even he was complaining how salty it was. I literally had to take a big gulp of water every bite. Overall, this place is solid but the sodium level needs to be lower. I would maybe visit when it's not peak hours so the wait isn't as long. I'd like to still try the saimin noodles one day. But I don't think it's worth a special trip unless you happen to be in the area. read more

Saimin Says is our go to restaurant when ono for Hawaiian line kau kau. Their saimin (ramen) soup tastes just like what one would find at home in Honolulu, HI. If one is really hungry for a big bowl of saimin, order the Papa Jim Min, big enough for two! If you're not sure what you want, order the Bento Box. Shoyu chicken, deep fried Mahi-Mahi, SPAM and rice, and get a little taste of the fare there. Then of course there's always the islands favorite, Loco Moco, which is a pile of rice topped with a hamburger patty, a fried egg an lots of gravy. Staff are very friendly and provide great customer service. Get a table big enough to fit your clan, go to the counter to place your order then on the way back to your table, pick up your silverware, napkins and condiments. Family style dining. By the way, if ono (hungry) for more authentic Hawaiian food, order the pork Lau Lau. It's delicious! I think the secret is the salted black cod (known colloquially in Hawaii as butterfish). All in all, great family atmosphere and really great food. Gets really busy around lunchtime. Get there early and grind 'til your tired. Came in a week ago and it wasn't super busy but our food took a long time. Pretty sure it's 1 person doing everything in the back. I've been to the old Kent location and from what I remember the portions were bigger. We got a side of mac salad, spam musubi, spam katsu musubi, and loco moco (hamburger). The hamburger on the loco moco was a thin burger patty and the gravy that smothered it all was realllllly salty. Portion was smaller than I anticipated. I knew that Saimin Says had moved from their prior Kent location and I finally found time to visit their new one. The inside isn't exciting, being very different vs the old spot. It's cramped, small and dark with limited seating (proof of vaccination required to dine in). A bit sad to see, but I'm here for the food anyways. The menu doesn't seem to have changed during the move. The fresh made spam musubis are still on point (get the spam katsu). There's a large variety of saimin for something warm and hearty for rainy chilly days. I remember loving their loco moco and mochiko chicken dishes and will have to return again. A definite stop for your next IKEA trip! Saimin Says is only a few blocks away. I tried the curry saimin, which was perfectly spiced, with fresh veggies (carrots, onions and celery) cooked al dente, plus a decent amount of chicken. And of course noodles! Vaccinations required for dining in, for others who also appreciate a commitment to safety as the pandemic continues. I only wish I had discovered them while I lived in Seattle. Have YOU ever seen a spam marsh musubi?!!? This is my new favorite Hawaiian restaurant located in Renton next to IKEA! I finally had a chance to try it out and now I'm coming back. I definitely recommend ordering their Katsu spam musubi, Mochiko fried chicken, garlic fried chicken as well as their macadamia nut pancakes! The mochiko chicken is so flavorful and crispy paired deliciously with the tuna Mac salad. The spam musubi is so crispy and it never gets soggy. Everything is so flavorful and their service is great and fast. They close at 5 PM which is a bummer but make sure to go when they are open!!! Small little cute place to eat. Reminded me of being in Oahu and stopping at a little family place along the highway to get a plate lunch. I ordered the combo of Mochiko chicken and shoyu chicken. Both were delicious. My son had the keiki pancakes, there were served to look like a happy face and had bananas on them, he loved them The lady at the counter was very kind and pleasant to talk to. We told her that we would be coming back to eat here often because of the friendliness and delicious food The place is small and doesn't have a big sign, and is in a business office like area, despite all that and the limited hours they are open, go eat here, you will love it read more

Ok first off, sorry for the half eaten food photo, but we got home and it smelled so good that my hunger overtook me. I lost control. I went into a feeding frenzy like you see in werewolf movies. It was all just a sudden flash of Styrofoam from a plastic bag, and I awoke from the entranced state surrounded by the wreckage of what I had done. The garlic chicken. I think that was what caused this. It was the aroma that created the frenzy. I have vague recollections of my wife pleading for some, but its all lost to the fog of the hunger now. It was delicious, that much memory shines through the clouds. I also got the Spicy Chicken Katsu, which the only evidence of now is the receipt. So, apparently it was great as well? Lastly, the Hawaiian Saimin. Its the best saimin on the mainland, and better than a lot I've had in Hawaii. The noodles are PERFECT. The broth has so much flavor that I would literally carry it around in a thermos and drink it. Just sip it on the bus or whatever. During meetings at the office. Hopefully not go into another feeling frenzy...? OK so maybe that's a bad idea. I don't want to scare my coworkers in a conference by standing on the table and screaming SPAM SAIMIN then tearing my shirt off and running out the door to go back to Saimin Says. Prob not a good look, prob not great for my employment stability. So yeah I'd recommend it, but only if you have someone around to keep you restrained from howling at the moon and ordering everything on the menu, because its all fantastic.
