We've been here a few times and the quality really slipped this past time. Our waitress only had 3 tables - it's all that was there. Just 3. We weren't seen except twice. She got my portion of the order wrong and it came out about 20 minutes after my husbands. At that point we were just ready to leave. The food was okay but mine felt obviously rushed and not done the white in the eggs were still clear and uncooked. She left it on the bill and acted like nothing wrong had happened. It was super unprofessional imo as someone who's been in the service industry for years before.

We came in for happy hour on a Friday afternoon. Can't beat a $5 House Martini! We picked two bites from the menu. The boudin egg rolls really were some of the best we've had. The baked miso garlic shrimp was also yummy and felt like an elevated dish (it was also pretty pricey). The food and drinks were so good and the bartender was friendly and attentive. I like how the bar area is separate from the main dining room so it has a separate ambiance. I will definitely be returning for Happy Hour.

Oysters three ways

We grabbed a late dinner here after a long day of travel and could not have been happier with the meal. You simply CANNOT pass up those three oyster preparations for their signature app. It defies description how transformative the dish is with tender succulent oysters, perfectly crisp fried oysters and a puff pastry filled with oysters. I'll be craving that dish for ages. The chicken entree with potatoes, mushrooms and bacon was absolutely delicious so don't let folks tell you not to order chicken at a fine dining establishment. Poppycock! Get this moist tender delight and enjoy every bite. The only sour note was an Italian salad that was inedible due to the level of some type of hot pepper or something on it. Six of us tried it and all agreed something had gone south as its fiery heat assaulted our tongues but the waitress refused to remove it from our bill. Very bad service for a party that spent over $500 on wine and food. They can do better. It's a nice intimate place to enjoy a meal and some nice wine.

First time dining at St. John Restaurant on St. Charles Avenue, right on the streetcar line downtown, and it was such a great experience. I went for a dinner party, and the ambiance immediately stood out -- beautiful space, warm, and inviting. I love trying new restaurants even though I have my go-to spots. The appetizers and food were incredible. I ordered the beef short rib for my entree, and it was absolutely delicious -- perfectly tender and full of flavor. The turkey necks appetizer deserves a special shoutout because WOW... that alone is worth coming back for. Service was attentive and thoughtful throughout the entire evening. We truly felt taken care of from start to finish. Amazing food, great atmosphere, and excellent service -- I'll definitely be back!

Upscale creole, white linen tablecloths and clean silverware. Very unlike on Bourbon and at the real creole joints. This is a little ways from Bourbon, so the crowd is better, the party can't be heard from here. The food is great, the oyster 3 way appitizer was the best! Four oysters poached in double cream served in a ramican, in the center was oysters in puff pastry with whipped crab stuffing on top, four more fried oysters for decoration. Yum. Get the corn ! Second best after the oysters. The menu is pedestrian Norlins. A beef stew, redfish, a filet, rack of lamb, a nice shrimp dish, a roasted chicken something, pork chop, a burger. Nothing off the chart, not really a creole place, but a really nice place to eat a nice dinner with great service.

Good overall experience. The food was good but expensive. I'm not sure it's worth the price you pay. It wasn't busy- we went on Friday at 7:00pm. The service was GREAT, so that's a major positive. The place was clean and spacious. I got the redfish which was decent.

Pork belly white bean cassoulet

My first drag brunch!!!! It was so fun, the food was great, ambiance immaculate, drag queens gave a SHOW. My only regret is we had to sneak out a litttle bit early to make it to the airport in time. I got the pork belly white bean cassoulet. Creamy and beany is a great combo although I might've overeaten a bit too much the past couple of days and the pork belly was WAY too fatty for me. (Duh, it's pork belly, that's not the restaurant's problem)

One of the best bites on Earth. Oysters Saint John.

This place is an up-and-comer. The entrance is somewhat awkward. You spend the meal looking into the kitchen. (At least from where I sat. I don't know if that's a positive or a negative truly.) The staff is exemplary. Again, know that all of the behind-the-scenes resturant work is done right in front of you. Wiping plates, cleaning knives, folding napkins. It's all done inside the dining room. Is this a negative? I don't know. The important thing is the food, right? They have an oyster dish w/ a puff pastry that is (almost) worth a trip to New Orleans for. It's certainly one of the best bites in all of New Orleans. ( Right up there with Drago's flame, broiled oysters, and the Commanders Palace lacquered quail.) Really the food was all very good w/ that oyster dish being EXCELLENT. Deserts were good. Clean Resturant with clean bathrooms.

Kiarra our server was GREAT! She smiled, it was very pleasant, she checked on us, and was simply wonderful. This dinner was for a special occasion (birthday dinner). I enjoyed my meal and my mom. A few others didn't care for their food. I heard one cousin who doesn't complain. But he said the burger was solid as a rock. I felt it and it definitely was super hard. A few people ordered the short ribs. One person said hers was just right. One other person said it needed more flavor, but it was tender. I never had issues like talking about it at Saint John. I will continue to dine there.... I doubt if my cousins will return. The army was nice. Very clean. Cool artwork.

Great Service- I enjoyed our server, he was knowledgeable and also wasn't afraid to ask questions for me- we opted to eat things that were house scratch made mostly- the bread pudding was a highlight And we didn't even try any entrees it was all starters then dessert. The Mac Pie was the show, best thing we had honestly. It was executed extremely well, funny tho that with the sauce it tasted distinctly like a beef a roni. The ambience was tasteful, some very cool artwork in the hall- but the bar area was cooler then the main restaurant, because the slatted wood thing feels kinda dated at this point reminiscent of a standard hotel restaurant

Very classy Sunday brunch spot the ambience was very nice. The service was very good and the food was excellent.

NOLA has probably way too many restaurants trying too hard to be "local cuisine", but Saint John strikes the perfect balance between soulful southern cooking and an upscale gourmet vibe. We had an event that was going to take place during the better part of the evening. This leaves our dinner choices at 5 PM rushing to the event, or rushing from the event to get to a restaurant towards last seating. I was thrilled to see that St. John is one of the few restaurants recommended to us that was open for lunch. The restaurant was fairly quiet with only a few tables occupied . The weather outside was sunny but blustery, so being able to sit in the front dining room and enjoy the sunshine without blowing away was awesome. Service was prompt and knowledgeable but never intrusive. Well crafted Bloody Mary hit the spot. The only problem you will have at Saint. John is deciding what to order. I decided on rabbit fricassee as a bit of a novelty, and I do enjoy rabbit. Only when it was delivered and I was digging in did it click with me that this is the most upscale version of "chicken and dumplings" you will ever have. Hearty and comforting without being heavy, and amazing flavors. We had been advised to order the brown butter corn and that certainly did not disappoint. The roasted okra had something on top that I asked about - a gremolata? The server took the time to ask the chef about some of the ingredients to share with me, including the fact it was made without any breadcrumbs so it was actually gluten-free. I'm not opposed to gluten - it was just so wonderful I had to inquire about it and it makes me really happy when a server indulges my curiosity and checks with the kitchen. I've learned not to poke at my husband when he decides he's just in the mood for a hamburger. It sounds dull to me, but this was the most flavorful burger and I honestly can't even tell you why. It just was quality, fresh, seasoned beef served with thin fries. So good. I wished I could have managed to find a spot for some dessert, but as it was we took a bit of hamburger and the sides back with us. But not the rabbit fricassee - I practically licked the bowl. This place has made my short list of someplace I can't imagine not dining at while in NOLA.

Hi, wondering what attire is recommended here? Thanks in advance!

Casual would be fine for brunch! The servers had on jeans and tees.

I've never had crawfish and seeing it was crawfish season we were destined to be here. We built out our own seafood boil, which included, 1lb shrimp head off, 2 soft shell crab clusters, 1lb crawfish, corn, potato, and sausage. Let's just say we left with a pretty big leftovers box We ordered the hot house flavor and do not regret it one bit! Our server was so kind to show us how to peel and eat the crawfish and honestly it was so fun!! I will definitely be back next time in New Orleans!! One quick note I will say that I learned from a local that I wish I knew before this feast (And you should double check with staff if this info is correct). Most seafood boil places in the area when they have headless shrimp it is farmed and brought in from outside retailers where if you get head-on it's from local ships in the area/fresh caught. Apparently they've been struggling and if you want to support New Orleans local fisherman then go for the head-on shrimp. Again double check with staff if their head-on shrimp is local cuz I learned this information after visiting.

We waited approximately 30 minutes before our waiter even came to greet our table, which set a disappointing tone for the entire meal. The food was decent, but nothing particularly memorable or worth going out of the way for. It's possible the long wait and lack of attention from the staff affected the overall experience and my enjoyment of the meal. The restaurant has potential given the nice atmosphere, but the service needs significant improvement. Until then, I can't rate it any higher than 2 stars.
