I could eat this every day. Let me repeat, EVERY DAY! The food is consistently excellent, the service is welcoming and friendly, and the value is unmatched in the area. You can find a less expensive lunch nearby, but the portion size, whether getting a rice bowl or wrap is sufficient for leftovers for a second meal. All of the ingredients are delicious, and everything compliments everything else, so there are no end of combinations you can choose. They are very generous with the portions, and if you want more of something, just ask. I usually eat half of my heaping rice bowl, and save half for a hearty portion of lunch the next day. The free cup of yummy lentil soup with your order is a nice touch, and if you check in on Yelp, you'll be rewarded with free delicious fried pita chips to add to your soup or dip in tasty hummus. Try the shwafel (shawarma and falafel combination), and definitely try the pomegranate chicken, whether in a salad, rice bowl, or wrap. This is a great concept. I opted for the salad bowl. You get a lot of different ingredients to chose from much like a poki bowl. The trouble is that if you don't know what you are doing your bowl ends up looking and tasting like a huge mess. Yes I'll claim user error, but it would be cool to have a few suggested combinations for the newbies. I wish feta was included, after all, what is Mediterranean food without feta? I did spring for the guacamole. Ok they call it avocado, next time I would do without, and add feta. I tried to see if I could distinguish all the different flavors but it was almost impossible. I would definitely stay away from the pickles and peppers next time they are simply too acidic. For me, the flavors didn't blend well. Service was fast and friendly. I had it filled with rice, tatziki and garlic sauce, spicy tahini sauce, and pickles (middle eastern style, not dill or sweet per say). Also threw on some cilantro chutney every now on then from the side. Overall, one of the best Pita "wraps" I've ever had. Also, the mint lemonade is super addicting. Had a great experience at Sajj. I had the rice bowl with shwalafel. I got just about every topping - each component was delicious. I esp loved the eggplant, cauliflower, beets, and the garlic spread. Their falafel is really good though all their proteins are winners. It's a fast food experience but with great quality food and delicious flavor. It's even healthy to boot! This is like a Chipotle style Mediterranean fast food joint. The friendly staff were more than willing to help a newb figure out what to order. I got the chicken shwarma salad bowl. After all of the toppings and sauces, I might as well have gotten rice and bacon fat as my base. I put way too much stuff on my salad bowl. This is normal for me, as I'm fat. Fat people don't do well in establishments that offer "free" toppings. We feel like we have to get more stuff because more stuff always tastes better. Anyways, the food was good, though I'm feeling a bit ill at the moment -- again, this completely my fault. I have no self control with food or good beers. I need some ADD meds if I'm ever going to complete this review. So back to my food... Chicken shwarma salad bowl with lots of toppings, lentil soup (another freebie), and pita chips (which I ALSO got free for checking in on Yelp). Everything was good. First time here. This place is definitely a Mediterranean version of Chipotle. Loved the spread. They had 3 meats to choose from, caukiflower. Eggplant, pickles and a bunch of other stuff. They also had fresh made juices and chutneys. They also had a lot of side options and sauces. I tested all the meats and went with the pomegranate chicken over rice and took most of the available sides. I also got the lentil soup with pita chips and liked it a lot. I love love love Sajj. I'm all for the "create your own" styled joints (chipotle, pizza studio, even froyo, etc) and this does not disappoint. Tucked away in the San Antonio shopping center next to Safeway (or if you're coming from El Camino, next to Chili's), Sajj offers fresh, delicious, healthy quick-serving Mediterranean food. Great rice bowls, falafels, wraps. That complimentary lentil soup with the 1 (or sometimes 2 if you're lucky) pita chip is so delicious. Portions are ample and I usually opt for most of the veggies save the beets (not a fan of beets) and all the sauces (hummus, tahini, spicy, hell yeah). Sometimes I add avocado if I'm feelin' extra special. Freshh. My favorite is the pomegranate chicken rice bowl. Menu is easy on the eyes, but they'll guide you through it if you have no idea how to start. Besides that, service is quick and friendly. Seating isn't cramped unless there's a lunch rush and a whole line going on and you're by the wall facing their menu. Lots of drink options, - I just get water but the lemonade is refreshing. The yogurt drink is... an acquired taste but maybe some people like it. Yummy fluffy pita bread and sides. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied. I come here a lot for lunch or dinner without having to make reservations/sit in all the time. Good, not great. I, perhaps unfairly, compared Sajj in my head to two similar places I used to go to in other states (Garbanzo in CO and Roti in IL). The flavours here were okay. On the plus side, you get a massive portion. My friend and I were beyond stuffed. I was also impressed that the soup was included, but I didn't have room in my stomach for it. I had a spoonful and realized that wasn't actually a problem (it wasn't that tasty). All in all, I would be back, but I'm not sure when. The other two restaurants I mentioned had a magnetic pull on me, and I struggled to resist them. I'd have to kick and push myself back to Sajj (because there's a heck of a lot of other options around here, not to mention within a 50ft radius of this place). read more

Newest addition to San Antonio Village. Quick/casual eatery with well marinated meats, tons of toppings to pick from. Great service, friendly staff. Clean and simple ambiance. First timers- pick your carb then meat and toppings (like at Chipotle) by walking up to the glass counter. You may see people at the register but that's the end of the line. Got the beef shawarma in a pita bread pocket for $8.50. There were so many toppings to choose from- most are free except avocado or feta cheese. I think it would be helpful to grab a menu that lists out the toppings (for newbies). It might not be obvious when you look behind the counter. Delicious! I really enjoyed my visit here. As other reviewers have mentioned, service comes with a smile, and the food is an excellent value. The number of options outweigh Chipotle's by a small margin, but I wouldn't say Sajj is as filling dollar for dollar, pound for pound. I got the shawarma wrap and thought the spicing on everything was just right. My hummus was the right texture, tahini subtle, and the cilantro chutney had a nice brightness and kick to it. I couldn't get into the soup, which was under seasoned and on the watery side. If it costs the same, I think maybe giving a free dollop of hummus or something would add appeal to the meal. My first experience at Sajj was just OK, since I picked a combination that ended up not going together too well, and therein lies the problem with Sajj. I get the concept, of building a chipotle style ordering line. To their credit, the food was fresh and the service was quick, and the price was reasonable. The kabob was a little dry, and the ingredients were heaped all over each other, so when I asked for yogurt, it went everywhere, over the veggies, the rice, and the chicken, and kind of overpowered everything. I think once I put together a better combination I'll like it more, but I'll have to be more careful next time. read more

We came here for a quick lunch which turned out to be a really great decision. This place is like Chipotle but with Mediterranean food. You can choose your meat (or vegetarian option) as a wrap, with pita, on rice, or as a salad. Then, there are lots of toppings to choose from. The food was delicious (and I think healthy), portion size was large, esp if you get a lot of toppings like me, you customize your food however you want, and the price is excellent! I got a rice bowl and it was super dry even after adding a lot of sauces to it. The portions were large, but when i saved leftovers for the next meal, they only ended up being more dry.
