I had bookmarked this place for a while now and decide to drop by for lunch today. I ordered the rice bowl (half pomegranate chicken, half falafel) and I paid $1 extra to have feta cheese. This bowl was huge! On top of my rice bowl, I received free lentil soup. When I was ready to pay, the cashier (maybe owner?) asked me if I wanted something to drink. I told him that I just wanted water. Then he asked me if I had a stamp card and I said, "No, it's my first time here." Upon hearing what I said, he gave me a cup and told me that I can try a sample of their drinks. Omg, I love freebies. After settling down to eat, I "checked in" on Yelp and got a free bag of pita chips. Love it! The food was delicious. The chicken was moist and everything was fresh. However, the falafel was a little too crunchy for my taste but the hummus made it taste so much better. After finishing 3/4 of my rice bowl, I was so full, I couldn't take another bite. I walked back up to the cashier and asked for a lid and a bag so that I could take my leftovers home. While giving me the stuff I had asked for, the cashier asked me what I thought of the food. Of course I said "It was delicious but I'm so full". This guy is so nice and friendly. I will definitely come back. If you're in a hurry, you can always place an order on their website and the food will be ready by the time you show up. However, good luck with finding a space to park. I love this modern take on Mediterranean food (I'm a sucker for a good pita bread). Like other reviewers have said, it's like a Chipotle style resturaunt where you can choose what food items you want in your wrap or bowl. The portion sizes are more than large enough (really it's like 1.5-2 meals) which off sets the mildly elevated costs. They even give you a nice small bowl of soup which is actually quite good and not too salty! I'm giving a 4 star because (1) I felt like the falafels were a bit too deep fried/the outer shell was too crunchy for my liking and (2) I wish they had baked, not deep fried, pita chips (I will add that it's awesome that they offer a free bowl of pita chips for checking in!). They're great about giving you more if you ask (and if you're like me and want extra of everything, it's amazing!) but I do think they put a litttle too much sauce. Besides that though, love the clean and modern feel of the entire restaurant and the friendly staff made for a great experience. Would definitely recommend! read more

We came here for a quick lunch which turned out to be a really great decision. This place is like Chipotle but with Mediterranean food. You can choose your meat (or vegetarian option) as a wrap, with pita, on rice, or as a salad. Then, there are lots of toppings to choose from. The food was delicious (and I think healthy), portion size was large, esp if you get a lot of toppings like me, you customize your food however you want, and the price is excellent! This is my favorite place to grab a quick dinner in Mountain View, hands down. I had to be convinced to try it the first time about a year ago, since I wasn't sure what exactly "mediterranean chipotle" would entail, but I've been coming back on nearly a weekly basis ever since. The bowls are heaping with delicious food (and just like chipotle, you pick whichever ingredients you'd like) and the service is quick and friendly. One of the employees, William, is there almost every time we've been, and he's great! (And contrary to any other review about poor service or an unfriendly employee, that has never been my experience, and I've been to Sajj in Mountain View many *many* times.) Sajj has even inspired me to try to re-create some of their food at home (to varying degrees of success). My husband and I have come here with different groups of friends and family three and absolutely love it. It's fast and make your own bowl like chipotle but with Mediterranean food. If you think that Chipotle is good Mexican food then you'll love this place. It's not bad. It's just not really Mediterranean food. It has no soul, just nothing special. You can get a falafel wrap with avocado which is rather tasty but just wrong. That seems more like California food to me. The interior is modern and clean but I'm so used to getting Middle Eastern food at a restaurant where the owner is cooking it just seems wrong to me. It seems too corporate. The prices are reasonable and you can get a good meal for not a lot of money. The quality of the food is pretty good it's just not exciting. There's a lot of really good food close by. This place is a Middle Eastern version of Chipotle. This is only an observation, and in no way any kind of criticism. We found the place to be very neat and clean, as were the bathrooms. The food is very reasonably priced and there seems to be reasonable amount of parking, if not in front of Sajj, then in front of nearby Safeway. Two of us had bowls in different combinations of meat and added toppings. Everything is tasty and healthy. It all seemed fresh as well. I looked into the salad containers and didn't see spots or wilted produce. Portion size was good as I walked away full but not stuffed. Everything had taste according to ingredients added. One of our party had wrap and he was also quite satisifed. I am not a big fan of Middle Eastern and "healthy" type foods, but always like to try places. We came at 130Pm, so there weren't any lines to worry. Food: I ordered two items: chicken kebab at 8.95 and a pomegranate chicken for roughly the same price. The chicken is pretty fresh and cooked pretty well. However, my only knock on this place is that they give you very little meat. In the end, you pretty much stack your box with vegetables and hummus. Sajj has become my go-to restaurant in Mountain View. This restaurant works in a kind of buffet style. You choose your protein (chicken shawarma, lamb, falafel, pomegranate chicken...), the style you want it (rice bowl, salad bowl, pita sandwich), and the sides -- which are countless! Lots of vegetables to choose from and all included. This meal style comes with a small lentil soup -- quite yummy. Everything tastes delicious and fresh. Food might be good, but not good enough to take attitude from staff Happened to be running errands close by so figured I would pick up family dinner from here this evening (I have had their food once before and it was good) I went in and asked if I could get ingredients separately instead of pre-made bowls and after some confusion with the person who was serving me, another lady came over and said with some exasperation, "Oh you want the family meal?" Clearly I had committed the cardinal sin of not knowing their unpublished menu (How dare I?!?!) so I said, "Sure" and lived to regret it: The one lady who spoke English (the only other lady working there tonight did not), proceeded to dish out a major serving of attitude with the food, like it was a big inconvenience. When I asked for toppings (ones that are included in every bowl/wrap, mind you), I was barked at. "That's extra!!!" Again, got major attitude when I asked whether the Hummus/Tahini were included - the lady who I was conversing with said yes and insisted it was already in the bag when it wasn't. The person who rang me up didn't tell me what I was charged for this unlisted family meal with EXTRA toppings and I realized when I got home, that they didn't even put in a copy of my receipt in the bag. Can't wait to find out what this experience cost me. Love this place. I usually go with the sides rather than the big plates. Falafel and Steak sides are my favorites. Also the FRIES.. absolutely awesome. I also enjoy the green sauce (the takeout cups can be a bit bigger though). That is out of this world. They have offers if you use and order via their app which is an added bonus. They have big squirt bottles of red hot chile or a green cilantro chile concoction that is quite palatable. I had most everything and I think my wrap was convoluted; next time, I'd go minimal and then most likely give four stars. Tip: don't be greedy and put everything in the wrap. Also, you get a side mini paper bowl of yummy lentil soup. Look for and liberally apply 'Sumac' ,it's the powdery purple arabic spice. It's slightly sour and altogether yummy. Customer service: fine. Definitely try the cilantro mint chutney - added a nice zip to the meal. Skip the pita chips - very greasy and soggy. My group also tried the chicken and steak shawarma wraps that were warmed before serving which were equally good. However, you definitely get more in a bowl than in a wrap. We had a kid with us who chose from the limited kids menu of 3 items - chicken rice bowl, Mac and cheese or cheese quesadilla. Comes with a juice pack and bagged chips. You would be crazy not to add the feta cheese, its only a buck and it's home made and the best I've ever had. If you think you don't like feta, ask them for a sample..it's not that salty crap that comes pre-packaged from the store. They make it fresh! I actually did not detect salt at all. Sajj is my go to place, it's right down the street. I love the flavors of the food and the many options to choose from. However, the women that's usually there I did not get her name (but she was there today), is THE RUDEST person I've ever met to the customers AND employees. She has no customer service and I have heard customers comment on her customer service more than once. I can't say enough good things about this place. Basically - it's Mediterranean Chipotle. What's not to love? The food is fantastic, they give generous portions, and they don't ask twice if you want extra of something (like the pickles...Mmmmmm). The garlic sauce is my absolute favorite sauce (of the three they offer), and the complimentary soup is such a tasty way to start the meal. I literally always get the chicken as my protein since I find it impossible to pick something else when I go, but both flavors (shawarma and pomegranate) are delicious.
