This is my go-to door dash place when I'm at work near by in Palo Alto. Their salads are consistently fresh and filling. I especially like Samurai Steak salad but sub with chicken. It has a good amount of toppings, various textures, and the dressing/sauce is delicious. But today I tried the build your own salad and I was not disappointed! You can add 1 protein and 4 toppings (including avocado) all for ~$17. The salads are a good size when you order to-go, but I feel like they give you more when you order it to eat there in their big reusable wooden bowls. I also really like to order their homemade lentil soup and bone broth, plus their focaccia bread is a must-order for all meals when I eat here! This location is actually inside "State Street Market" which is a food hall in downtown Los Altos that also has a Penny's Ice Cream that is perfect for dessert after your salad (it's all about balance!). We were looking for some GOOD salads on a rainy November day so decided to give it a try, and my tastebuds left nicely tingled with chickeny and ranchy goodness! One bite in and I immediately noticed how chilled all the ingredients were, like they had just been taken out of the fridge -- even the grilled chicken! I typically prefer the protein in salads to be warm. But I can see this as a very refreshing salad on a hot day. Considering I had just worked out right beforehand, the salad was the perfect post-workout meal I needed. The greens, meat, and assortment of add-ons and flavors definitely hit all the macronutrients I needed for the day. The overall service and ambiance of Good Salad is difficult to describe considering it's in a mid-sized food hall, but it's good to come with friends and family since it's a relatively loud and lively atmosphere. The lettuce is always fresh, avocados are quality, and the meat is always well cooked and tender. I've advanced to the "create your own salad" option and I love trying new combinations of ingredients. I really enjoy combining sweet flavors like candied pecans with sour flavors like pickled onions in my salads. Id say the pesto ceezer is my favorite dressing. The dressings are so rich that I recommend using less than the full packet, including just a touch of their "good glaze." As for the drink, it also wasn't bad but it didn't blow my mind. And It was over $7 for a small cup of yuzu iced tea that was already prepped and laid out in the fridge section to grab. City parking is adjacent and can be close to full during high times. State Street Market has a central cafeteria style dining area with the food vendor booths at the perimeter. At The Good Salad I ordered and paid at the counter with pick up at the station on the end of the counter. There is a tap water dispenser there also. They don't have any system to notify when your order is ready so you have to go to the pick up station to check. I had the Samurai Steak, which had cubed Tri Tip, the veggies and sesame dressing and balsamic glaze on the side. The veggie quantity was nicely varied and ample. The beef was a little chewy and would be better it sliced thinly against the grain. The dressings were okay but not memorable flavor wise. This place only takes plastic for payment, I prefer cash.
