    beef noodle soup

i rly enjoyed this restaurant, great service, food came out fast, generous portions with lots of meat, and the flavors in the pilaf dish all went together rly well. i thought the beef noodle soup could have been more flavorful but the texture of the noodles were good. overall, this is my first time trying uyghur cuisine & it did not disappoint. the interior is nice, not too loud, lots of surrounding parking, would be good for a date night spot!

Really good flavors, wish we had this in San Diego. Lamb was tender and fell off the bone. Would go back here again, great service!

Since my first review, I have visited Kusan many times, for both to-go orders and to dine in. And I am happy to re-confirm my five-start rating! When dining in, I've been able to sample a variety of dishes with guests. Everyone I've brought was impressed with the food, with particular highlights going to the Lamb Ribs, Lamb Shank, Handcrafted Dumplings, and Kebabs. The service is also as friendly & prompt as I'd expect. I also recommend trying the Uyghur Special Milk Tea; it's not like any other milk tea you can order at a boba shop. yet still very delicious.

I've been missing my travels to Xinjiang and my friends were curious about Uyghur cuisine, so I brought them here to tackle the menu! 6-hr Braised Lamb Shank Pilaf: hands down the best dish of the night! The lamb shank was so tender, pairing perfectly with the subtle sweetness from the raisins and the chewy rice pilaf. Wellington-Style Roasted Lamb Shank: I was curious how a Wellington-style would translate here, but it actually worked surprisingly well. Eggplant with Mashed Garlic: it was alright. We mostly ordered it to get some veggies on the table. A bit too oily, and we all agreed it might taste better served hot instead of as a cold dish. Grilled Garlic Naan: so good with everything else we ordered. Stewed Mutton Soup: not our favorite. We didn't end up finishing it since it was on the greasy side. Beef Noodle Soup: a solid Lanzhou-style beef noodle soup, but not the most standout dish of the night. Homemade Amina Yogurt with Almonds: a nice way to help digest all the heavier dishes. The yogurt itself was pretty simple, but still tasty with the honey and almonds. Huge fan of the 6-hr braised lamb shank pilaf! I'll definitely be back just for that :)

My husband and I walked inside the restaurant one hour before closing. We stood there for nearly 10 minutes waiting to be seated. The chefs could see us and didn't do anything about it. there were two parties eating at their tables but no severs in those 10 minutes. As soon as we walked outside to leave, we saw a server come out to help one of the parties. In that moment, my husband and I decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt and go back in. We waited a few more minutes. At this point it's kind of embarrassing We finally get seated. To order your food, you scan a QR code. To be honest, it already frustrated me to see that because with our waiting and this, it painted the service as minimum and below. (What am I tipping for at this point?) I noticed the menu was quite limited compared to other Uyghur restaurants, so I didn't see any of our go to, which was fine. We ordered four items and everything was flavorful. And it was reasonably priced. The restaurant itself -- the bathroom was run down, like what you would see at a gas station. Scratched up mirrors, dirty, just run down in general. The rest of the restaurant was okay, nothing remarkable. Overall, I might consider coming back, but I'm still on the hunt for better experiences and finding my go to Uyghur spot.

soup tastes really good! Will come back

I really enjoyed the soup here--it was flavorful, fresh, and comforting. The restaurant has a clean and welcoming atmosphere that made the dining experience even better. Everything looked well-maintained, from the dining area to the serving stations, which gave me confidence in the overall quality. The staff was friendly and attentive, helping create a pleasant visit. The environment feels relaxed and comfortable, making it a nice place to enjoy a meal. I would definitely come back to try more items on the menu and recommend it to others.

Restaurant is very well decorated with plenty of seating, and the service is quick and we didn't have to wait much in between dishes and ordering. You can also order on your phone. The food was really solid, we tried: the garlic naan, eggplant with mashed garlic, cucumber salad, 6 hour braised lamb shank with pilaf, the homemade amina yogurt with almond, lamb skewers, and the beef noodle soup. Honestly everything was really delicious except for the garlic naan (average), the beef noodle soup (something about it left much to be desired, wasn't very flavorful), and the yogurt (reminiscent of regular Greek yogurt with some honey and almond slices). The lamb shank fell off the bone and the sauces were so good.. the chili oil had a good kick. Eggplant with mashed garlic and cucumber salad were cold appetizers and very flavorful. The lamb skewers had such a good, juicy bite to each piece and were extremely well seasoned. Overall, a great experience and perfect for family style dining!

Kusan Bazaar is a Uyghur restaurant tucked into a quiet Mountain View plaza. They have plenty of parking in the shared lot and there were only 2 other groups dining in on a Sunday lunch, though it does seem to be a pretty popular take-out location. Overall, the food is unique and delicious while the restaurant is classy without crazy price tags. Samsa (3.75/5): These came out piping hot and stuffed with tender, juicy lamb. The skin was super thin and just a little flaky. If you aren't too much of an adventurous eater, this is a great intro to the meal / cuisine. Eggplant with Mashed Garlic (4/5): Cold eggplant with garlic flavor, but none of the harsh spiciness. It does eat a tad oily, but they remove all skin off the eggplant so everything is texturally soft and smooth. Stewed Mutton Soup (4.5/5): Sleeper hit for sure, the soup manages to be perfectly savory, but still feel light without an ounce of gaminess. Lamb is insanely tender and genuinely was my favorite thing on the table. Homemade Amine Yogurt (3.75/5): The yogurt was very thick as advertised, but I wanted to enjoy this a little more. It's a pretty basic yogurt with almonds and honey, but the tang is super nice. Uyghur Special Milk Tea (4/5): This milk tea is more salty than sweet and has a thick layer of melted butter on top. Definitely a heavy drink, but I surprisingly really enjoyed this as the fragrance of the black tea still comes through! Braised Lamb Shank Pilaf (4.25/5): Lamb shank itself is super tender, but still has a nice bite to it. Once again, they've cracked the code to cooking lamb without any gaminess and it didn't feel greasy at all. I will say it's a little bland on it's own, but you're meant to dip in their spice mix and / or chili oil, which are both bangers. The pilaf rides the line between sweet and savory with the natural sweetness of the carrots and raisins just shining through. Quail eggs on the plate are a nice touch and although the yolk wasn't runny, it was definitely still creamy and not overcooked.

We had last-minute plans to have lunch in Mountain View and this had the best Yelp reviews in the area. We walked in after the lunch rush and noticed how clean and inviting the atmosphere was. We were the only patrons in the restaurant which made it great because we had a toddler with us. The weight staff was very nice. We placed our orders for the samsas, the beef noodle soup and naan. The beef noodle soup was amazing. The broth was so flavorful and rich and I love the fact that the noodles were hand pulled. It just gave that extra flair. I would like to try another noodle dish the next time we come here.

Good food, the chili oil was especially good and really fragrant. Yogurt beverage was yummy and not too sweet.

Highlights: * Sleek modern ambiance * Wide variety of lamb dishes * Appreciated the natural flavors Food: Lamb rib pilaf - flavors were subtle yet authentic, transporting us to the xinjiang region. I appreciated that they used the raisins, stir fried veggies and the natural lamb flavors to give the pilaf its pizzazz. Compared to so many other restaurants, I thought this dish was low sodium (without the sauce and very low powder). There was a lamb aftertaste that was prominent in this dish because the lamb cuts weren't overly seasoned or anything. While I appreciated the restraint on salt, the food earned a high score, though I want to try another dish before I give 5 stars. Ambiance: Decor was sleek, though actually simple. Both modern yet inviting. All of this was impressive given the small space of the interior.

It was a cold, windy weeknight in November. After a long day in the office, I wanted one thing: a warm and comforting bowl of soup, and Kusan surely delivered. I was promptly seated. It was my third visit. They seemed to recognize me. I scanned the QR code, and within a couple of minutes, a bowl of complimentary mutton soup showed up. Perfect for the weather that day! I ordered the beef noodle soup. It came out in no time, and let me tell you this, it was everything I was craving. Everything that I've tried here has impressed me. Kusan is my go to for northwestern Chinese cuisine, and I'm looking forward to my next visit.

This location was much more peaceful compared to the Palo Alto location. I stopped by on a Saturday evening, and there were only a couple tables that were occupied. I will say I feel like the portion sizes here are noticeably smaller than those at the Palo Alto location. This might be because all of the orders are packed to-go, so maybe there's less space for food? For instance, the thali from the Palo Alto location includes a side salad, which was not included in my order here. The other sides (pickled salad and daal lentil), along with the entree, were also significantly smaller here. The prices are the same, so I do think the Palo Alto dishes are more worth it.

Rather than dismissing our concerns, they took our feedback to heart and extended an invitation to return--one we decided to accept. Last night, we had dinner at Arya and it was the event of the day for my wife and me. From the moment we arrived, the entire team--from the receptionists to our server Serdar and the support staff--treated us as honored guests. Every interaction felt warm and genuine. The food was exceptional. We started with a mezze platter featuring delicious spreads, pastries, and felafel, followed by a mixed green salad that showcased some of the best burrata we've ever had, topped with tiny, sweet berries. Our main courses were equally memorable: a stunning Fesenjoon pomegranate-walnut chicken stew with a perfect balance of slightly sweet and tart, and a side of basmati rice studded with almonds, pistachios, berries, and orange peel. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, unique, and delicious. But what truly made the evening special was the service and genuine hospitality. Serdar, our server, was remarkably warm and attentive. We had fascinating conversations with him about his world travels, the uniqueness of Persian cuisine, and his recommendations for authentic Turkish breakfast and dinner spots (he's half Greek and half Turkish, which made his recommendations all the more authentic and personal). Mehdi introduced himself during the meal and checked in on us with a genuine interest in our experience, not just as a manager, but as someone who truly cares. When we mentioned we had no room for dessert, Mehdi surprised us with a beautifully presented pistachio-saffron ice cream served in an ornate bowl made of ice--a perfect final touch that felt like a work of art. This visit demonstrated that Arya is a restaurant that listens, cares, and delivers on its promise to provide not just excellent food, but genuine hospitality. We left feeling valued and delighted.

The different entrée types have varying portion sizes and levels of customization. My preferred type is the Plate, because of the balance of protein, carbs, & veggies. But I think most would like the options & size of the Bowl. On the more critical side, I do not think the Wrap Bites are worthwhile. The form factor & taste are good, but the portions are lacking. I'm also not a fan of the fries and wish I could swap with other sides. Some other thoughts on the menu. Entrées let you add on a lentil soup cup for free, so don't forget it!
