We placed an online order for about 25 people. The delivery was late. Nothing was labeled - we did not know what were soups, sauces or dressings. Not even the spicy items. Food was no longer warm. Some of the dishes lacked flavor and/or spices. I spoke to the manager Mayelli and all she did was give excuses. Since it was not considered catering she said they don't label, cut the pita bread, etc. She also did not seem interested in receiving this feedback. Simple food. Basically like a Mediterranean Chipotle. Normally, I don't even like Mediterranean food. I appreciate the quick service and good value of this place. They aren't stingy with ingredients. I have a big appetite and I wasn't able to finish my chicken shwarma bowl. It was also nice having an alternative to tzatiki sauce, which I am not partial to. I love their menu options. I usually get a salad steak or chicken shawarma bowl and add most of the toppings. My favorites are tzatziki, pickled turnips, pickles beets, and feta cheese. The falafel is pretty good. However, I prefer Egyptian homemade falafel more because they taste way different and they're made out of favas beans and greens instead of the chickpeas and greens used in the United States at most restaurants. Unsure if it was due to my ravenous appetite or the fact that this bowl is full of yummy esa, but this was one of the most delicious meals I've had in a very long time! I ordered the steak shawarma rice bowl with garbanzos, mixed greens, pickles, cabbage, beets, cherry peppers, feta cheese, onion, tzaziki sauce and spicy sauce. I also added cilantro sauce on top of everything. The blend of all the ingredients made for a very delicious bowl. They were very generous with all their ingredients. I also ordered a mint lemonade which was AMAZING. I highly recommend this place to anybody in the area. In terms of cleanliness, everything was impeccably clean. I came during covid period and all the staff were wearing gloves and masks. They were very organized and proper covid protocols were enforced. This place needs a makeover. The staff are bored and have no joy or energy serving food. The owner/chef should understand spices and flavor making tasty meat/chicken. Needed a place to chow down after survival training, and Sajj (pronounced "Sah-jay-jay") seemed to be an awesome place to go! And it was! I wish there were more of these around as Mountain View isn't the most convenient for everyone, but I'm still glad we got to try it! We were helped by Willy, who took the time to explain all the components to us! It's hard to decide when everything looks so good, so I just went with my gut on this one :D I ended up with a wrap, chwarma+falafel combo with garbanzo beans, Mediterrean vegetable mix, beets, and sauce on the side. I wasn't sure how different the pomegranate chicken was from the regular chicken chwarma, but there is that option too (and don't be afraid to ask to try!). Know what to expect. This is Chipotle-style Mediterranean fast food. So no, you won't find tabbouleh or kebab or lavash bread here; that would be like trying to find prime rib at McDonald's. Individually, I enjoy cauliflower, cabbage, beets, arugula, onions, hummus and garlic sauce, but when you put them together in a bowl, it's like too many people trying to talk at the same time - too many flavors clashing. The price was reasonable - my chicken shawarma bowl was $8.50 and came with a small cup of lentil soup. The check-in offer was free pita chips, but nobody in our group finished them all. Between being heavily fried and some of them being too doughy on the inside, the chips weren't all that appealing. But the most disappointing thing was the customer service. I won't take up half this review with the minutia, but essentially the lady at the register botched our punch card (Sajj has a punch card where you buy 6 lunches and get the next lunch free) and claimed we had one punch fewer than we really did. I really hope it was an honest mistake (I'd hate to think it wasn't), but she wasn't friendly about it, most of our group had already gone outside so I couldn't double check the numbers with them, and I didn't want to make it a big deal. Overall experience considered, would I come back? Came here for lunch with coworkers and we were all fans! I decided to try the chicken this time, and they let me try the pomegrante chicken. I loved it, but asked for half and half of the pom chicken and chicken shwarma. To be honest, with all the toppings and sauces, I couldn't taste which was which. Got a rice bowl with lots of eggplant and cauliflower since that's my favorite part, arugula, and a little too much of the 3 sauces. I wish they could understand when you want just a little, you really want just a little. Checked in for the pita chips, and got it with a side of hummus. It's not the best but it really is nice to have the extra touch if you were really hungry. Although, I was pleasantly surprised with the portion size. I did not leave hungry! I aso really liked their hummus. It had a really nice aroma and really goes well with the rest of the bowl. I also liked their tahini sauce. The sesame smell was really INTENSE and that's how I like it. I don't know what it is but I really like anything sesame. The bowl was a real treat with all the different flavors, textures, and colors. Everything was fresh and tasty. I must come back and try some of their other dishes. I expected some depth with veggies and lentils I'd be able to see. Taste was fair (I ended up adding salt and crushed red pepper for taste). I tried the vegan plate which tasted overpowering of garlic and onion. It's missing a balance of flavors from Mediterranean herbs (basil, bay leaf, cloves, coriander, cumin, dill, fennel, marjoram, mint, oregano, parsley, paprika, rosemary, saffron, sage, tarragon, thyme, and turmeric). Chickpeas tasted as if they were right out of a can and placed on top of rice. It's easy to make a meal overpowered by garlic & onion. The best thing from this was the naan & hummus. Hubby created a bowl with their "yellow rice", chicken, garbanzo beans, tomato & cucumber salad, arugula and not sure what else it was the guy suggested. The combination was not good. Overall it was dry and the chicken was lost. Such a shame because the chicken was so good on its own. Hubby picked thru a quarter of it then tossed it. I love interesting and new flavors and had the employee tell me what he's eating tonight - my bowl had the following - marinated beef (employees favorite), yellow rice, scoop of pink seasoned cauliflower, scoop of the delicious warm eggplant, spinach, cucumber / tomato salsa, spicy tahini. I really liked my bowl. :) The beef was flavored nice but tough with grissle. The eggplant was amazing and the marinade / juices from it added enough moisture in the rice to keep it from being dry. SAJJ is so amazingly good at what they do. I love the pomegranate chicken, which I always order in a bowl - make sure to ask for extra cauliflower which is so bomb! Hummus, yum. Garlic spread, yum. All the toppings and add ons, yum. Portions are huge so this is always spread out to two meals for me, making it value on top of delicious. Bonus: the ingredients are so balanced, so I feel good about eating this! It has been a little frustrating recently because they are a chain, and when the app updates or runs into issues, the actual store employees are not able to help troubleshoot and sometimes they can be reluctant to give the same deal in person even though the app is not working. At the same time, the app is nice in that there are lots of deals you can take advantage of (like $10 off your first purchase!). This is the worst Sajj location in my opinion. I like the food, but these guys are stingy to an annoying level. I just paid $16.64 for a wrap that is barely 7 inches. The employee literally put four drops of sauce on my wrap and I asked her if she could put more. She said there was an extra $0.5 charge for extra sauce! I would understand that if this was a $8 wrap, but it for a small $16 wrap they only put tiny bit of food and an extra spoon of sauce comes with an extra charge?! Do they have any shame?!
