I've had Sajj catered several times to my office in SF, and knew when we weren't too far away in Palo Alto that I wanted to have lunch at the Mountain View location on a warm Sunday afternoon. It seems that this is one of the few or only locations open on the weekend too. We arrived after 1 and it had a good amount of customers dining, but we beat the rush to put in our order. I love how you can customize your order and the ingredients are not only fresh but delicious as well. I chose the shawafel which was a combo of chicken shawarma (went with the pomegranate chicken) and falafel. They gave me plenty of chicken and 2 falafel balls. For my base I chose the rice bowl but also got some mixed greens thrown in, along with tomato and cucumbers, onions, cauliflower, and some spicy tahini and hummus. Hubs got the chicken shawarma bowl with his choice of toppings and added on some guacamole for an added charge. He also chose the garlic tahini cream sauce. I took advantage of the Yelp check in deal which was a free bag of pita chips with hummus. Total was a little over $20 for a heaping huge bowl fit for two meals. They also provided us with complimentary soup. I believe the soup was a lentil soup. It was semi creamy and flavorful. Totally hit the spot. The pita chips were fried and seasoned perfectly. The hummus was so creamy and thick. Love Sajj's hummus! Chicken was moist and flavorful, falafels were crunchy, sauces were on point and the veggies and turmeric rice rounded everything out. The restaurant was clean and workers friendly. Portions again, were huge especially given the prices! Parking is tight in the complex. Come to Sajj over The Counter next door for a delicious, healthy and wallet friendly meal! I'm not too big on Mediterranean food, but I'm in love with Sajj's. Location was easy in a big shopping center. I enjoyed this quick service eatery, especially the beef shawarma wrap. Ordered a pita and chicken shawarma for the kids which they liked as well. We got lentil soup included. Liked both the mint and strawberry lemonade. The owner graciously sent over an allergy menu for me in advance, after I submitted a website inquiry. All the food was decent. Rounding up to 4 stars due to allergy questions easily answerable. My family member with the allergy issues did end up having an itchy mouth reaction to something she ate, but we're unsure what it is. read more

A staple for good mediterranean food. You get sooo much food here. The soup is delicious - don't knock it til you try it - and the proteins as well as the veggies are fresh and tasty. I'm also a sucker for Tamarind juice, so they got me with that one too. I will confess that I am biased toward liking Mediterranean cuisine, but it also means my standards are up there. SAJJ does not disappoint. Small advice - if you're not one for food that packs a kick, don't add the cherry peppers or the spicy tahini. Of course the Tamarind helps wash it down :) read more

We have ordered from them quite often since they opened, both through their app and at their restaurant. We enjoy the food, the service is quick, and the cost is reasonably priced. In addition, the customer service is often great. We ordered from them one time through their app and they forgot one of the sides. Considering the amount of times we've ordered from them, I did not mind since it was the first time this happened. I message them the issue so it wouldn't happen next time. I get a direct email response from them, correcting the issue. Mistakes happen, but we appreciate how they treat their customers. We will return again to the restaurant. read more

Yeah, this place was yummy! Stopped by here for lunch the other day after hearing it was better than Med Wraps in Palo alto. Though i disagree, it was still really really good. Got a wrap with chicken + falafel. The chicken part was definitely better. My favorite part of the wrap were the choice of pickled veggies and the GARLIC sauce! I loveeeeee garlic and this sauce definitely hits the spot. Sad they don't have lamb but next time I'll try the beef and also chicken by itself. read more

Miserable pathetic management. Stood on line before 8 PM to order a family meal and by the time we were getting ready to be served the scrawny excuse for a manager working the line tells the kid serving my wife and I that it was a few minutes after 8 PM and they stop serving that at 8 PM. The food in the steam table was close to empty already and they already had shut the grill so not sure there was much else there to eat. That pathetic manager turned us off to the point that we just left and headed over to veggie grill. They don't apparently want or need business. We won't return as long as they treat customers this way.... Addendum: turns out the owners read yelp and I got a nice note asking for more details and a promise to "make it right" by sending me some store credits to use at their restaurants. I took the time to share specific details that same day. Two weeks have passed and nothing back. Looks like customer service at all levels is not such a priority. Got it ! Stopped here on a business trip for a big bowl of salad after a day of airport travel. I ordered the shawafel salad, with chicken shawarma and falafel. They added three kinds of greens to my bowl and then loaded up the toppings, which included cauliflower, sumac onions, pickled turnips, the cucumber tomato mix, hummus, tzatziki, and spicy tahini. My favorite toppings actually turned out to be the cauliflower and onions, go figure. Everything was fresh and looked amazing. Once I started eating it, though, it didn't live up to expectations. I really want to like this place. Fresh ingredients, lots of options, decent prices. But one or more of the toppings is just so, so salty it kind of ruined my experience. I'm not sure if it's the tahini, tzaziki or just the pickles but something in here is a serious sodium bomb. I now understand why the cashier automatically handed me a water cup when I hadn't asked. So SAJJ is clearly an attempt to replicate the success of Cava (which I am obsessed with) - and to be honest it's actually pretty good. I was pleased with the food and really thought the bowl was great. I wish I had been give more romaine lettuce but if that's my biggest gripe then it was obviously pretty good. I really liked the garlic sauce (but I must say, it is insanely garlicky). I felt like the toppings were not as great as Cava, but the whole bowl worked so well. If you check in on yelp then you get free pita chips (which are amazing). I would not purchase them again because they are not healthy, but if you're looking to splurge then go for it. I really wanted to like this place because I love mediterranean food and can eat pretty much anything as long as there is hummus on the side. Unfortunately, this place didn't meet my expectations. I got the chicken shawarma rice bowl. The person making my bowl seemed to rush and made it sound like the topping options were pick one out of 3 for the sauces and veggies. For instance, she asked "would you like cauliflower or garbanzo or eggplant" when she should have asked "what veggies would you like". Same for hummus, tzatziki and some other sauce they had over there. The tomato cucumber salad had absolutely no flavor, soup was too watery. And finally when I finished ordering, they didn't even bother to ask if I wanted a drink, come-on even Subway folks ask that. I used Sajj to cater a lunch meeting I was doing. Turns out my lunch was across the parking lot! Made my "delivery" of the food easier. They open at 11am on weekdays and I had placed my order for 11:10. When I walked in, the manager (I forget her name, my apologies) greeted me and got my order ready. I ordered for 15 people and could have fed 25 solidly. So much food! But so good! The standouts were the cauliflower, beet salad, and of course the staples like hummus and chicken shwarma. The beef kefka meatballs were amazing as well. The manager lent me her cart, loaded it up for me and I suspect if I let her, she would have wheeled it over to the office on the house. What makes Sajj good? It is up to you. The way you create is the key for good flavor. I would recommend not to put a lot of sauces, Such as hummus, tiziki.. etc When all the flavor meet together with right ratio, it become a heaven in your mouth. It beats other Mediterranean restaurants easily. Awfully well managed system when you take order. It works smoothly. Staffs are friendly enough for this location for the fast food standard. I have seen some people had attitudes, but this fast food. Be genius about it. Chicken is the worst option you can go for it here. Lack of flavor tastes worse than cauliflower and egg plants. You can hardly notice chicken in your meal. Go for steak. Or falafel. Bowls is the best option for me. It is not messy and quicker than other menus. Price is just okay. Not that expensive. read more

Sajj is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to eat at (and not just for Mediterranean). This review is just for their takeaway and not actually dining in. Their Chicken Shawarma is easily some of the best I've ever tasted in the Bay Area and when you get it in the form of a wrap with the works, you'll be blown away. I particularly like that they include some beets to the mix and it goes so well with the meat! I've also ordered Falafel and Hummus from here both of which were really good. I was quite disappointed. We ordered the steak and chicken pomegranate bowls. Although I enjoyed being able to pick and choose the toppings (fresh arugula, beets, etc.), the taste just wasn't there. The soup was also bland. Now, I would have given it 3 stars but I couldn't believe their "famous" pita chips. They were burnt, thick and so hard that I almost broke my tooth! I usually pack in as much as I can when ordering at a custom restaurant like this. My fave toppings for my bowl are mixed greens (need that fiber, honey), sumac onions, pickled cabbage, eggplant ragou, pickled radish with Tzatziki AND Spicy Tahini sauce. hubby's co-worker highly recommended this cafe (with locations in north sj, mtn view & menlo park) so we hit up the mv location on a saturday afternoon since mp is only open on the weekdays and north sj was a bit far for us. note that this is a "chipotle" style cafe, where you queue up at the long counter, watch your food being made, pay for your meal, grab your drinks (if you ordered them), take a seat, and enjoy. hubby ordered the chicken shawarma rice bowl ($9.95), marinated chicken on a bed of rice, with multiple selections of veggies on top. the bowl was filled very generously with colourful green, purple, pink, and red veggies. i had some of his chicken and chickpeas and thought they were good, fresh, but nothing super exciting. he also ordered a side of fries ($2.50), for which he had to wait a long time for since the staff claimed that they could not find him....we were only sitting just outside the main doors! the fries were good, crunchy, crispy not overly cooked and not overly greasy. i ordered the pomegranate chicken sajj wrap ($8.95), which i'm told is one of their signature items. although the chicken was marinated in pomegranate molasses, i had a hard time tasting the sweetness of the fruit since it was stuffed inside a large, fluffy wrap with assorted veggies, cheese, and dressing. but i enjoyed the overall taste of this wrap and felt the veggies were quite fresh. we both received a small cup of lentil soup with a large crouton in the middle. the soup was just ok, i wish i knew the lentils, slightly pureed, were on the bottom since that was the best part of the soup! for the price we paid, we felt the quantity and quality of food given was fair and we enjoyed our lunch. i wouldn't mind coming back for a quick medi fix next time i'm in the area. read more

I was craving a chicken schwarma wrap from Falafel STOP and didn't want to make the drive out to Sunnyvale so we came here. I ended up with the rice bowl with chicken. Seasoning wasn't as good, and I can see how the flavoring here has been adapted to a broader audience. Service was great, I loved the huge amounts of veggies available to pick from. Downsides is that they slathered on all the high calorie count spreads when the website clearly states 1 tablespoon is 45+ calories. One spatula smear of it and it was close to 1/2 c of garlic spread in my bowl Chicken wasn't well seasoned but overall everything else was delicious! Absolutely loved it. I'm a big fan of the Chipotle-model restaurant, and this Mediterranean Chipotle certainly doesn't disappoint. I got the (massive) rice bowl with pomegranate chicken and added all of the spicy toppings and sauces that they had available. That + the squeezable hot sauce and green chutney that they have afterwards makes for an absolutely fantastic meal. The chicken had more flavor here than at other legendary local Mediterranean restaurants (i.e. Oren's Hummus) and the ingredients all seemed super fresh. Why must you be so fluffy pita bread? Why????? Some good pita can do wonders for a meal, and the soul. Okay, this isn't deep dive soul sista Friday. Back to the pita. It wasn't warm, but it was that fluffy sorta pita that you just can't stop eating because it's so fluffy and pull-apart, fresh. Even some of the best falafel places serve their great stuff on stale pita, which is always a shame. Three stars for the pita. Or more like two and a helping. Here's the not so nice. Dishes (work catering): - The rice. Meh. Kind of clumpy, yellow rice with mild flavor. - Entrees were falafels (I know hate me. I really, really, really wasn't in falafel mood so I didn't try them. Huge falafel balls....wedges...they weren't circular.) And for meat eater beef and chicken kabobs. - Mixed greens. Greens. They were mixed. Or not. One will never know. - Hummus. I did not like this hummus. It just didn't taste right. Kind of paste-like and lacking the usual richness. - Babaghanoush. Add it to the list of things I didn't like. It didn't have the usual richness and was kind of watery. - Tabouleh with quinoa. It was fine. The tomatoes were tasty, but didn't seem to have much seasoning or dressing otherwise. - They also offered some pickles and sauces. I wish they had more toppings offerings, besides just the sauces. Maybe some beets or smoky eggplant..If you wanted to load up your pita to make a falafel wrap or something, you were kind of out of luck. Whatever, I'm a simple girl. I had my pita, I'm good to go. If you wanted much else beyond, like standout hummus or baba, I'd check out elsewhere. read more

Super yummy and super filling! I had the vegan plate which gave me a taste of everything, and it was delicious. It came with a free cup of lentil soup which really hit the spot. I also got a free bag of pita chips for checking in on Yelp. They were not the typical huge triangle pita chips you get in a bag from Costco or the grocery store. These are the real deal! For dessert, I ordered cinnamon pita chips and chocolate hummus which is heralded as sajj's famous dessert, but I was too stuffed to even enjoy it. I just can't decide on this place. I tried it twice and think it's OK. Not super, but not bad either. Their Yelp check-in deal of 1/2 price is pretty amazing, and for that price you can't go wrong. Their food tastes healthier than other "fast food" types of places and it definitely has more flavor. Gives you that Chipotle feeling as you're ordering, but the taste is obviously much different. Their ordering system is quite simple. Choose Falafel, Chicken or Steak (or a combo of them), then choose if you want it on a plate, bowl, or wrap, and then add in all the other stuff (lettuce, etc). Again, the idea is good, the restaurant is new and modern, and the food tastes ok. It's just not something that I crave after not having it for a little while. read more

Got the steak shwarma jn a rice bowl, eggplant, humus. Thats it. Came out pretty good. They give you a small somewhat diluted lentil soup with a pita chip which is ok. I also really like how they allow you to chose what you get, but they also give you choices that compliment other choices. I got a beef shwarma in a rice bowl, with red onions, and hummus. The rice was seasoned well, and I really liked the aromatics they used in it. I really liked the red onions because the acidity complemented the rice. The beef was also seasoned well, but unfortunately, it was overcooked. The hummus was actually a really nice texture. It was thick, and also had a texture that was almost like really fine seeds, which I actually liked. Aside from the fact that it's extremely difficult to find parking here, this place is really convenient because of how fast you get the food, and the food is really good and totally worth it. read more

I've been to the Sajj food truck before, which I thought was just okay, and had no idea that their brick & mortar would be so much different (and better!). Sajj - the store - is a more Chipotle-style type of place. You decide if you want a pita, wrap, salad or rice bowl, choose a protein, and load up on a ton of yummy toppings. Their falafel balls are pretty large and taste great. I always get a bowl so I can fill it with lots and lots of extra toppings - because why not?? They also serve a small cup of lentil soup with every order, which I was super confused about and find a bit unnecessary since I get so stuffed from my main entree. But, whatever, I'll take it. Their serving sizes are huge and such a good value. Download and pay with their app to eventually earn some free credit. The quick and efficient service here, plus the delicious food, will make you want to keep coming back! read more
