Friend and me went to grab a bite. The restaurant has nice calm environment. Got there for happy hour. The drinks were strong and tasty. I cut the lychee martini which was the perfect amount of sweet with a lychee fruit at the bottom. Then I got the strawberry blueberry mojito which was very fruity and had fruit pulp in it. I ordered the crunchy roll which was alright, but then I so my neighbor's next to me and was I should of ordered the Dragon Roll which was on fire. And I knew I ordered wrong. Also ordered goat cheese gyoza which I love goat cheese but it was way way to intense. I think it's needs something mixed or put with it. The sauce that came with it was fantastic thou. I definitely would like to return and try there bento box and dragon roll. read more

For the love of god clean those chandeliers! Decent food, but the decor is very tired and worn. Those chandeliers are priceless, and they have maybe NEVER been cleaned (for the record, there is a spray product available ). read more

My favorite place for happy hour sushi! Everything here always tastes fresh. I only come primarily for happy hour which is everyday from 3-6PM. Good selection on the happy hour menu as well as drinks! The drinks are pretty strong! I also like to order their sweet shrimp sushi. The shrimp heads here are delicious. read more

Came in a few nights ago for my birthday dinner before going to work on the graveyard shift. We had more than enough time to relax and eat before heading to work, but yet I still ended up leaving hungry. We were seated immediately and placed our order right away. 40 minutes later, our drinks finally arrived along with the news that the appetizer we had ordered was not available that evening. After waiting another 30 minutes, we asked for an ETA on our food as I had to leave for work. The manager finally arrived with our two sushi rolls. I had just enough time to pay our bill and box up our food to go. The waitress complained to us the entire time that she was too busy to do anything, which was very off-putting as a customer. read more

Wouldn't order anything but the California roll because sashimi is NOT supposed to be luke warm. I ordered the rainbow roll first and gagged at the texture , the warmth, and held it in my mouth until my very pleasant server Hayden came to give a paper napkin to spit it out. Terrible service, hidden charges, poor customer service. I recently dined in this restaurant with a group of 9. Although we were a large group there were only 2 other tables that had guests. There seemed to be only one waitress. once we received our food, she was so quick to drop everything off that she never asked if we had everything. We were missing items for our order. Then my husband ordered more food because his portion was so tiny. the entire group ate and we waited over 25 minutes and he still hadn't received his food. We had someone leave the table to go find our waitress who was blatantly playing games on our phone, asked where his food was and jumped up to put it in. She had the nerve to say the chefs were backed up. Like I said there was only 2 other tables that had guests. I asked if we could get it removed because of how late it took, and she said he received it and the chefs were backed up. I still had missing items, my husbands food was so late we were literally asking for the check and waiting on his two pieces of food he ordered. Also the menu specials listed are false advertising. They list a 2 roll special for $17.50. They charge you $28. This goes for all their items, they increased all the charges but not the menu. Also on their menu it says groups over 6 people will be charged a gratuity rate of 18% the receipt has 20% as the charge. They are literally adding $20-30 extra per guest And then when you address it they are not helpful and just say that is what the charge is. This is a big tourist place and I just want other people to get ripped off. Inflation is bad enough without restaurants trying to add additional fees. This is not how you value your customers or represent your brand as a company. Deceitful, unprofessional, do not recommend. read more

This is really my favorite Sushi Bar in all of Nola and North Shore! Have to get the sizzling Squid steak appetizer and Tootsie Roll! All the special rolls are really good, my son likes to order the tuna bento box and have them add a zest of lemon over the tuna sushi. Baked tuna appetizer in a Mayo sauce also good. Prefer it if they would do a baked Clam-not on menu though. Other great rolls: Rose Blossom, and Jazz. I prefer to sit in bar area. read more

Went here the other night for dinner because we wanted sushi. Super happy with the convenience of the parking lot. No complaints - other than the menu is just too long and complicated. We just wanted sushi anyway and didn't feel like studying 3 pages of menu. Ended up asking our server what the best rolls were. She recommended the cherry blossom & something else. We ended up getting that one and the lava roll. Both were fresh and delicious. Our server was also on top of our drinks so all & all pleasant experience. Like I said, awesome spot for sushi but my suggestion is to simplify the menu. read more

I'm not sure if there's been a change in ownership/management, but the quality has declined over the last year (most notably in the last six months). I ordered two types of rolls, both were warm and tasted like the ingredients had been sitting out for a long time -- to the point of being inedible. The preceding garden salad was old/browned romaine with a dollop of dressing on top. Server was friendly and attentive, and is the only reason I am giving three stars. I love coming here!!! It gets 3 stars for their happy hour drinks. And minus 2 stars bc the food isn't that good. And then a star for good parking. Lol. I only ever come for happy hour. They serve half off drinks and they are STRONG. My fav is the lychee martini. It comes with a lychee in the drink, but one time my friend got a rotten one. Just a heads up! Calamari - crunchy, big portions. Comes with sweet and sour sauce. Edamame - steamed edamame sprinkled with salt. Can't go wrong. Sashimi - some days the fish tastes great, some days it has no flavor. some days it's cut thin, some days it's cut thick. Their sashimi has no consistency. And unless I was drunk, I wouldn't eat it. Hamachi Kama - on the days that I order and they haven't run out, this is actually pretty good. It's tender and just the way I like it. I've ordered some rolls and other dishes here before, but they weren't memorable. Anyway. Come for the drinks! And food will follow. read more

Its a good restaurant as far as the food, but their customer service is terrible. Today I talked to a supervisor about money being added to the tip from one particular waitress. The manager did nothing in terms of discounting my meal or anything else. Just that he would speak to the waitress I had referred to. I think he and the waitress are related, because I don't think anything is going to result of my complaint. read more

I went here for a business lunch and was pleasantly surprised. (I had read some of the low rated reviews) This establishment has off street parking which is great because it's hard to find parking on Magazine St. The hostess greeted us right away and we were sat immediately. The restraunt itself is beautiful inside. I ordered the Beef Teriyaki, Miso soup and a salad. Everything was delicious and fresh. The guest I was with ordered stuffed salmon and it looked delicious. It was nicely plated. Our server checked on us frequently and was very nice. She seemed genuinely interested in ensuring we had a great experience. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have a higher rating as their food and service is impeccable! read more

We went right after happy hour ended and got seated very quickly! Our sushi was a little slow to come out but the drinks were strong and the appetizers came quickly. The restaurant is pretty low light and the tables and a little close together but the overall experience was pretty good. read more

So, we were looking for a happy hour yesterday (4th of July) and Sake Cafe's website said they had their normal happy hour "July 4: 3-6pm." So, we show up at about 4pm and the slightly rude woman at the counter says, "We don't have happy hour on holidays." When I showed her the Sake website calendar all she said was, "That's strange"...no offer to honor their word, nothing. So, we left, never to return. The "funny" part about this is that the poor service at Sake was then mirrored by Pizza Domenica up the street. After Sake's failure, my gf called Pizza. D to ask them if they are doing their happy hour. Answer: "yes." So, we hoof it up Magazine and when we get to Pizza D, hostess says, "no happy hour today." Less rudeness than Sake, but again, no offer to honor their word, nothing. So, we left, never to return. Sad to think this is what local service has come to, but the happy ending was that we gave up and just went to Houston's, which always has impeccable service and reliable, quality food. read more

Sushi was fresh- devoured it before I could take a picture of it. The can make traditional rolls where the seaweed is on the outside and the rice is on the inside. I had the "Sweet cheeks" as I call them...it's the yellow Fin cheeks...got the last one as they don't always have them. And yes, very . I prefer to have the eyeballs included with the carcass but that's just a preference. With the hot sake flowing and service was great, makes a wonderful dining experience. read more

Tried to make a reservation via the phone and the hostess told us to come right in - however when we got there 5 min later, we were told there was a 30-45 min wait for a table as a 'rush of people just walked in' when there were obviously empty tables and seats open at the Sushi bar. Avoid this restaurant. They served rancid, grey toro (fatty tuna) and could care less. I can't imagine how sick I would have gotten if I didn't know better. I stood up, showed it to the main sushi chef, and walked out, hoping I wouldn't get sick from the few things we already ate. This restaurant has no business serving raw fish. They should be ashamed of themselves. This is a really fun place to hang out with a good happy hour. Their ambiance is very classy and they have a nice selection during happy hour of fried appetizer items and nigiri both. The chicken spring rolls are amazing and the portions of everything happy hour, especially the calamari, is generous. Take advantage of the $4 wines. Fresh, that's all I need to say. I've been dining at Sake for years and I've yet to have a horrible experience. I truly feel they have the freshest ingredients in New Orleans. I've tried numerous sushi restaurants in the city and have been disappointed by almost all of them. My favorite items have to be the Yellowtail and Jalapeño salsa appetizer and the tuna cake. The appetizer is thinly sliced yellowtail topped with finely minced, fresh jalapeño salad in a citrus based sauce. It's the perfect balance of cool flavors and heat from the jalapeño. If you are dining with company, order two. I annihilate this appetizer solo in a snap. It's that tasty! The Tuna cake was brought to my attention by one of the bartenders. I don't know all the specific details as its not on the menu. Simply do yourself a favor and order it, especially if you like tuna, snow crab, and eel sauces. If some of your friends cringe at the mention of sushi like mine, don't fear! Sake Cafe has excellent teriyaki dishes, shumai, and things like fried rice. Everyone is happy! The staff is friendly but it can get quite busy. There are moments when even two bartenders and a bar back isn't sufficient. At times service is downright slow but it's worth it. Also, they have a happy hour every day. The happy hour includes 2 for 1 mojitos, draft beer, and certain sakes. There's also major discounts on sushi rolls and select appetizers. Many have called Sake fancy and I think that is mostly due to the decor. You can definitely dress up for a date or a girls' nite but I've also been many times in denim shorts and flip flops. If you haven't been to Sake Cafe you should try it. If you dine solo or with one extra person, dine at the bar. Be nice to the staff and who knows what goodies you'll discover! read more

I've been coming to Sake Uptown for years now I'm and off, but I've pretty much only gone during happy hour time. I believe that the nice Uptown/Magazine St. location and reasonable happy hour prices have made this sort of an easy option for post-work eats, but I've honestly never had awesome food nor experiences here. Not bad, but not particularly good either lol. The sushi is just ok as far as quality, and the drinks are never good nor strong, to me. The kitchen food comes out pretty fast but the sushi takes FOREVER; you will have gotten your spring rolls or gyoza, eaten them in 3 minutes (because the quantity of the appetizers and kitchen food isn't awesome) and be waiting 20 minutes and still not have your sushi or rolls. Also, the staff at Sake, to me, has never been welcoming nor friendly...I feel like everyone is always just looking at me when I enter, as in "what are you doing here". Well, I'm there to patronize your establishment. So, with all this said, I have significantly cut back on my visits to Sake; I pretty much only go if I'm with someone else who wants to go. read more

Sake Cafe is a fancier sushi restaurant on Magazine street. I say fancier because the look of the inside is more "hip" and "upscale" than other sushi restaurants and the prices match this vibe. I like that they have a little outside seating area where you can look out over Magazine street. My boyfriend and I split the New Orleans roll*, the Lava roll, and a Metairie roll. The New Orleans roll and the Lava roll were on their fancier roll list and were around $14-$16 each (which is on the pricier side for sushi in my opinion). I really liked the New Orleans roll! The flavors were really awesome together and I was very happy with this roll. The Lava roll was good too but I thought that the jalapeno was too overpowering. The Metairie roll is a classic smaller roll that I get at most sushi places and it was delicious as always! Our waiter was very friendly and kept our waters refilled throughout our entire meal. He also made suggestions for which rolls he liked better, which I really appreciated! Our total bill pre-tip was $40, which is definitely more expensive than other sushi places in the area but as I said, you're paying for the cool vibe. They also have a happy hour from 4-6 with deals on some of their basic sushi rolls and drinks. Used to be one of our favorite, but service has gone way down the past several years. And now, apparently, their online reservation system is not linked to the restaurant. So if you book through their site, don't assume you have a reservation. Turned away (even though no one is there - they are understaffed) because they couldn't accommodate 6 people and hostess refused to get manager to discuss. read more
