This wasn't the first time at least one of our group had the dish. The flavor was good but the chicken was over-cooked, specifically the coating on each piece. For my elderly friend, it was a struggle to bite through the pieces, even after cutting them up. I dined at Saketumi for the first time with my hubby & parents a few weeks ago while on vacation. We went on a Thursday evening around 6:00 and got seated right away despite not having reservations. They had a nice crowd but the restaurant is a good size so there was plenty of seating. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. My dad had mango chicken with fresh asparagus which was delicious. I had stir-fry udon noodles with chicken, my hubby had broccoli chicken, and mom had teriyaki chicken. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The portions were generous and prices were fair. The only downside is the cook forgot to make my meal with the rest of my party's meals. Our waitress apologized multiple times and they did get it out pretty quickly, but didn't comp it or anything else. Everyone else around us looked like they were getting meals in a timely manner, so I just figure it was rare occurrence. I would dine there again. read more

Valentines day 2013. My wife and I decided to try eating here for the first time. The place has always received good reviews for the most part. The atmosphere in the place is very modern and elegant. Our evening started with a very friendly and helpful waiter. He truly was fantastic. We started with a simple tuna roll ($6) and appetizer sampler platter ($15) that consisted of two of five kinds of appetizers (chicken skewers, spring rolls, pork dim sum, coconut shrimp and cheese wonton. Both appetizers were very good. Not a single complaint. Our main courses consisted of a General Tso's combo special (Chicken and Lobster, $25) and a Chilean Sea Bass with Mango Puree and Spinach ($26). Both entrees were very good. Rich, complex flavors throughout both dishes. The only complaint that I had is that the lobster was really overpowered by the spicy sauce; however, the dish was still very good. We finished the night with a heart shaped chocolate mouse cake ($10). It was really good and served as the perfect closing the a great meal. The price was certainly within reason for a nicer meal in this area. We really enjoyed our night out. We will be going back again, especially to try their lunch ($10-$15). Can't wait. Visiting from out of town. Extremely mediocre. There are Japanese take out places in strip malls that serve better food than this. Hibachi portion was nice, but the overall flavor was missing. I honestly could have whipped up something better than this. Veggies weren't seasoned at all, just steamed. Fried rice was good. Boyfriend requested RARE filet mignon, the filet was BARELY medium well. The star of the show was the chicken fried rice. Price was outrageous for such a small portion. Requested green tea ice cream, there were so many ice chips and it was extremely freezer burnt. I couldn't believe the waitress was fine with serving it. The worst dinner experience of my life :/. After asking our nice waitress if it's possible to change one item of the combo appetizer that has pork to vegetable because we don't eat pork and she went to ask the manager, the manager marched to our table and rudely told us that he will not allow that because this is the way he has designed the menu. He argued with us and told us to take it or leave it. Very shocking because we always liked going to this place but we won't anymore and support a business that has no respect for their regular customers. He ruined our Saturday night dinner even though we took a chance on going out during Covid-19 pandemic ...we would've gladly paid an up charge but the way he handled it was very unprofessional and rude. I was here again last night, dined by myself. It was about the fifth time for me. Usually I dine here with my wife, who is Japanese. She is oftentimes fairly critical of American sushi restaurants because she can taste all of the nuances in the fish as well as the sushi rice. She really likes this place! Last night I had miso soup, sashimi appetizer, and red curry chicken. I sat at the sushi bar and was waited on by Kelly. Everything was perfect. The green tea at the end was a great way to finish my experience. I am a little concerned that some reviewers have made not so nice comments about this restaurant. I travel all over North America for work and have experienced tons of Japanese restaurants. I have been to Japan five times. And as I said, my wife is Japanese. I was expecting decent sashimi and good drinks, based on a friend's recommendation. I wasn't expecting to have some of the best sashimi I've ever had. The drink menu was rather large and varied. All of the drinks my friends and I had were terrific. The calamari was nicely done - lightly fried without too much batter and a great chipotle mayo (I know, not exactly a traditional Japanese dish). What really blew me away was the sashimi. The fish was tremendous. I can't recall when I've had saba that didn't taste too fishy. That was not the case here. It was sweet and fresh, unlike what I've had anywhere else. The rest of the fish was equally wonderful. Also, the presentation was amazing. It was truly a work of art. Buffet sushi sounds nice in theory, but works out terribly in practice. $18 for all-you-can-eat sushi, produced carelessly and fading quickly in quality as it sits around at room temperature. Everything is served compacted on one giant plate, with one set of tongs, with no markings or descriptions, so it's hard to tell what half of it even is. I'd sooner dine again at my local supermarket sushi counter; at least they have the good sense to use labels. I probably use Saketumi as my "go to" sushi place being a local. Especially during COVID when I have only been getting carry-out. Their sushi is as good as any other place in Rehoboth and the prices are fair. Their red curry is very good. I've had it with both beef and chicken and enjoyed both of them. Their chicken fried rice is delicious. Takes fried rice to a higher level. Their crab wonton's are my guilty pleasure. They are small, crunchy and have just the right amount of filling. The only tiny complaint I would have is that whenever I order carry out and get miso soup, they put it into the tiniest container possible. This place is just a great time overall. Drinks are good - even better when Jay is working. The food is amazing. I love the Chicken/Coconut Soup and the Korean BBQ. I had such high hopes for saketumi, but was disappointed. I went with my girlfriend and her sister for sushi dinner. The sushi fish was fresh, but the fish in the rolls was disappointing. In fact, the rolls "haunted" me before I ever left the restaurant! (not something that usually happens to me) They also charged my girlfriends sister 33$ for 3 shrimp avocado rolls (not a specialty roll). Bought shoes next door and wanted to eat before the drive back to DC. Walked in and found out they had a Happy Hour with discounted appetizers and sushi rolls. No brainer decision and opted for the Happy Hour. Pros: - Waiter service is genuinely kind. Usually this is kind of irrelevant but it was noticeable positive. - The Happy Hour prices on the sushi were great. $2 - $3 rolls up and down the page. Lots of options. $4 appetizers too. As a side note, it was a Sunday we were there; so don't think that the Happy Hour pricing is available only during the weekdays. - The interior design of the restaurant was quite chic. I felt like I was in Los Angeles or some swanky New York City food establishment. Even though everyone was dressed in shorts, tshirt and flip flops. Cons: - The sushi was not good. It was more room temperature, then "cold" or whatever normal sushi temperature should be. I felt semi-nauseous halfway during the drive home and didn't feel better until I went to bed that night. - Their interpretation of tempora is sprinkling tempora flakes on sushi. First for me. - Disposable chop sticks? You're trying to give off the interpretation of being a nice, Asian-fusion restaurant. Let's step our game up a bit and get some reusable/washable chopsticks. Disposable chop sticks cheapens the restaurant's presentation. Also, it's better for the environment! - The beer selection is weak. Your usual selection of Coors, Miller, Bud-type, watered down, alcoholic pee pee and Dogfish 60 minute. Not even Sapporo or Tsingtao. Rehoboth is within a 60 mile radius of elite micro and craft breweries. Use your location to your advantage! I think my lesson here is to avoid restaurants with "clever" names like this when you're in a resort town. All in all, I'll still give this place three stars (I'd actually go 2.5, if I had the option) due to the cool interior design and not having to spend a lot of money. I'm also in a good mood. This is my FAVORITE sushi place to eat in southern Delaware. It's always fresh and the prices are pretty reasonable. The crispy crab wontons are to die for and the sushi rolls are always great, the tuna is especially good! My sister loves the Pad Thai and the Japanese eggplant with black bean sauce has been described as "exquisite" by my friend. The only problem was a margarita we got was not that good, but the manger quickly fixed the problem and brought another one that was perfect. The dragon fly roll we had was very good , the spider roll was mostly lettuce and tasted like supermarket sushi . Sara was our server, she was friendly and nice and she recommended the crab wontons (big thanks Sara). Overall the place was nice, nice environment. The restrooms would need some cleaning attention including the sign saying "high water pressure, don't lift the handle all the way". I have to say when we parked and looked at the building it kind if resembled a long island diner and we were undecided if we should go in. 2nd visit and still blown away! This time we had 3 people in the party and we all opted for the hot menu over the sushi menu. Everyone was very pleased. Dish 1) Shrimp Pad Thai - excellent balance of sour (lime) and spicy. The shrimp was grilled perfectly and the noodles were tender. Dish 2) Mongolian Lamb Stir Fry - I was always used to Mongolian Beef, but their twist on this classic did not disappoint. Perfectly seasoned and very generous with the shaved lamb. Dish 3) Spicy Seafood Noodles - This was my favorite of the night. Generous portion of wide and flat noodles (similar to chow fun), vegetables, and a seafood medley of shrimp, scallops, and squid. All tossed together in a savory brown sauce. For drinks: I opted for the pot of green tea (since it was 20 degrees and snowing out). It was a vibrant green color with a nutty taste. Very different but very good! Another person ordered the Hot Sake and ended up having a second order. Shrimp tempura in the middle was not fresh and it was cold...the roll was very small and nothing special! If it were $8 or $9. I would have thought well...okay...but for $14. I was expecting better. I gave a two star simply because my wine was served in a nice big glass and the service was fine. There is no effort put into making their meals stand out...felt more ho hum about the entire meal. We ate here for dinner tonight and it was all A-OK. The best part of our meal was an eel sushi roll that was fan-tastic. I think if we ever go back it will be for the the sushi. We had the General Tso's Chicken and Cumin Lamb. The Cumin dish says it is spicy on the menu but I had no idea it would be Super Duper Hot! But it was still good. We sat at the high-top tables across from the bar and watched some baseball. The waiter was attentive and pleasant. I can also report that the bathrooms were...clean. That always helps.
