Hate when people say "If I could give 0 stars I would", but this was one of those rare times for me. Got there during happy hour with my family to celebrate my birthday. First time here since we moved nearby last year. Heard great things. Manager said "grab a table in the bar area, it's first come, first served, and we don't take reservations." So that's what I did. Got a table that had just been cleared and waited for my family. Two women approached and said, "That's our table. Please move." When I asked the manager to resolve it, he decided it wasn't first come, but manager's friends first. Ultimately we were kicked out and were also refused after asking to be placed on a waiting list the way his friends were. All patrons are created equally, but apparently some are more equal than others. Don't recommend wasting your money or time. and definitely won't waste either of mine going back. read more

We were a party of 9 (4 adults, 4 kids, 1 high chair) and he right out refused to sit us all in one table even though there was plenty of space in one table for everyone. Refused to sit us in two tables next to each other even though the tables were empty next to each other, and in surrounding tables. Ended up separating the party, one in front and one in back. This is despite the fact the restaurant had plenty of space near each other since it was at max 20% capacity. It was unbelievable. Group was hungry so we ended up eating but we will never return. Been here many times since this restaurant originally opened "on the highway" and the food/service has never been consistent, but I have never experienced anything like this before! The food was not even edible! I always get the lemongrass soup to start. This time it was not even recognizable to the eye! It was a bright fluorescent blood-like red color with a rim to rim floater of grease that was from top to bottom of bowl and all over the sides & much of the outside of the bowl. The broth literally consisted of 90% dumped red pepper oil. (I love hot spicy but cannot eat a bowl of pure red pepper oil/grease!) The other contents were only 2 small very thin & flat solid slices of an unknown something and 2 shrimp. (Not complaining about the number of shrimp because that was expected for a small bowl). It was like the chef (and I use that term lightly) literally poured a bowl of hot pepper oil as the only broth ingredient. The soup bowl was not even warm to the touch. It was like someone was playing a practical (not funny) joke. The table itself was not clean and the food was "served" with zero utensils and zero napkins (not even chopsticks; not even kidding). The server never came back with utensils or any type of napkins (not even cloth or paper) after she placed the food on the table. I waited thinking she would & then I had to leave the table to go find her to ask for them. There were only a few other tables with customers in the entire restaurant. The sushi was okay; not the best but still okay. The seaweed salad was the worst I've had anywhere because it literally had no taste except for the sesame seeds. I did not eat the seaweed salad either. I told the server I will pay for it all but the soup was not edible & the seaweed salad had no taste other than the sesame seeds and she could take it all away (not eaten). I told her I was not sending it back to get something else. She said (very nonchalantly) that they had "a few new people in the kitchen" and said "sorry you had to be the Guinea Pig". She even said "I've been adding water and lime myself before I take the soup to the tables because it doesn't look right". There was no apology or even an acknowledgement from anyone in management and yes, it remained on the check and I paid for 100% of it and still left more than 20% tip on the total because I support service workers and I was not looking for any discounts. A simple acknowledgement or apology from any member of management would have prevented me from writing this review. There are always off days but this was well beyond an experience of an off day at a restaurant.I actually saw a manager go in and out of the small office (not far from my table) at least 4 times while I was there. did not see the owner there although he is usually there based on our past visits. After speaking to the manager, my rating actually went down. He claimed the chef made the wrong thing, the waitress claimed that the menu hasn't been updated since last Memorial Day. All I know is that I ordered a cucumber salad and received a seaweed salad-when I have an intolerance to seaweed. I advised the waitress I was on a strict diet, I chose my menu carefully, and yet the manager went on and on about how it was my fault for not telling them that I had an issue with seaweed. That would be like me telling them I can't eat chocolate ice cream when ordering vanilla, or telling them I can't eat chicken when I am ordering a steak. If you have any special needs, or any desire to have what you order, as you order it, this is not the place for you. They offer no true apology. Too many great places to eat in Rehoboth, Dewey, and Bethany to keep coming back. I have spent $200 every visit, but thanks for the offer of a $20 gift card for giving me food not listed. My husband came here for lunch one day and liked it so much that he wanted me to check it out as well. I tried the Thai lemongrass soup per his recommendation and loved it, it had a nice spicy kick to it and a lot of flavor. It's probably one of the best soups I've had in a long time. Saketumi gets a high rating from me because it is one of the few places you can find in the area that has a large enough base of local patronage that they actually care how they treat you and how good the food is. There are so many bad restaurant choices that can be made in that immediate area and Japanese/Asian just doesn't seem to fit in with the whole vibe of the area. Everyone is looking for crabs and lobster rolls. I think it's a bit of a hidden Gem in plain sight. We have family and a place to stay down there any time during the year and we always hit Saketumi once or twice... They also have an excellent happy hour menu with great value. I have eaten there 20 times over the years and never been disappointed. The food is very good relative the area. It's not a tourist trap. read more

I know the restaurant business is a tough business. But what happened to us today, left me numb because the owner basically told us he didn't care what his customers thought about the quality of his business. We eat at this establishment perhaps twenty times a year. Today we went with another couple. Our friend thought his soup was a little cold, so he politely asked the waiter if they could please heat it up a little more. The waiter began arguing with him that the soup wasn't cold. My friend persisted and the soup was reheated for him. Afterwards, when the main course was delivered, my friend complained that the tuna in his sushi rolls seemed a bit off. The waiter immediately argued that this couldn't be the case because he saw the chef make the rolls fresh and it could not be true. My friend didn't argue but didn't eat the tuna rolls. In between the appetizer and the main course we all ran out of water and drinks. We asked the waiter to please refresh the water glasses and asked for more drinks but they didn't arrive at the table for about 20 minutes, after the main course was served. I understand restaurants are having issues with hiring enough employees, and we all rationalized that this delay must have been due to this lack of appropriate numbers of servers to handle the tables. At the end of the meal, we were presented with the check and the server re-iterated that nothing was wrong with the tuna as he presented the check (even though we didn't ask for the tuna rolls to be taken off the bill). My friend then decided he would speak with the owner who was behind the sushi counter. When my friend started to tell the owner his experience with the food and the service, I was astounded when I heard the owner say to him: "If you don't have anything nice to say, please don't bother me." I then approached the counter and told the owner that what he was basically saying is "I don't care about my customers." I told him this would be our last visit. Ate the Sunday brunch here today. We were sat promptly at a table in the rear of the restaurant with a party of 5. Our server was also the bartender, she was attentive. The buffet has sushi rolls, all relatively benign, tuna/avacado, California, spicy tuna, as well as several other options. They have hot stations with dumplings, both shrimp and pork as well as tempura vegetables. They have other sautéed items. For the price of $20 per person, there isn't much to complain about. We did notice however that our table which is a square with foldouts to expand it to round shape had dried food bits in all the seams which was pretty gross. I will try them again for lunch or dinner and see if ordering off the regular menu changes things. read more

The restaurant is really close to the Tanger Midway outlet mall, so the location is super convenient if you need to take a break from your shopping! Overall, the food was decent, nothing to get excited about. The calamari appetizer was OK, I expected a light Panko breadcrumb (many Japanese restaurants use these as it's light and flaky), but the breading that they used at Saketumi was a bit too heavy and the calamari slightly overcooked. The spicy dipping sauce that accompanies the calamari really was nice and super zippy! My stepfather ordered the Yakitori chicken skewer. He said that it was good and the added sauce enhanced the flavor. He also ordered the brown rice, which was more than enough for one person. My mom ordered the chicken satay, which we think had curry spices, since there was a hint of yellow coloring on the chicken. She doesn't really care for curry, so she didn't really enjoy the satay. The order came with four skewers of chicken, which was a nice serving. The peanut dipping sauce was tasty. We also split an order of jasmine rice, which was fresh and yummy. I ordered the pad thai, which was average in my book. I've have much better, in larger cities, but I need to remind myself that we're at the beach in Delaware, at a Japanese restaurant, and we ordered pad thai, which is a Thai dish! There were lots of nice chunks of chicken in this dish, and a little bit of tofu thrown in, which is always a welcome surprise for me. The bean sprouts were fresh and crisp. My suggestion was that it needed a bit more ground peanuts or additional peanut sauce. My mom loved the pad thai dish. The highlight of the whole meal was the moochi dessert. If you've never tried this Japanese treat, you've got to try it! This is one of my absolute favorite desserts! I ordered the mango moochi (choice of mango or vanilla), which is basically a small scoop of mango ice cream surrounded by a sweet sticky rice wrapper. This restaurant served this treat at the perfect temperature, which is important. You've got to serve the ice cream when it isn't rock hard, just a tad melted, so that you can cut the dessert into smaller pieces and enjoy. read more

We ate at Saketumi on Tuesday night (June 30th). When we arrived we were the first customers on a foggy night in Rehoboth. The service was fantastic and the sushi was delicious. I had almost the same rolls as the other reviewer. I loved the calamari roll, but you have to love calamari because the chewyness is not something you expect. I also had the crab roll which was delicious. I also tasted my husbands crunchy tuna roll which was fantastic. We had some nice drinks including a fabulous mojito. The owner asked for our opinions at the end of the meal and the only suggestion was I wasn't a fan of the blood orange mojito. But the mango flavored mojito was super! This is a terrific sushi restaurant. The prices are more than you would spend for a dinner here in rehoboth.. but that is typical for sushi. Overall a nice dinner and an expensive night! Ummm..... This place is fabulous! Me and a friend was looking for a dinner spot and saw the Saketumi sign along the Coastal Highway. I wanted some good sushi for my birthday dinner and the ones I had here hit the right spot! Ordered the Volcano Roll, Spider Roll and the Dimsum Sampler with my friend enjoyed it. The Volcano Roll came in 4 pieces and the Spider roll with 5 pieces. Both rolls were huge and very filling, good thing i didnt order more. Also got the dimsum sample (shrimp dumpling, pork shumai and veg dumpling) and those were great as well. I personally enjoyed the vegetable dumpling, so fresh! I started off with 4 stars but then I changed it to 5 cuz of the bartender! LOL. Thanks for making my Pear Martini extra great and happy! In the area on business and we both had the craving for sushi, so we drove a few miles in the opposite direction of the beach and stumbled upon this place. Beautiful modern looking building sitting directly next to a hotel off the highway. There was a decent crowd inside, but we were still sat with quickness. When you walk in you have the sushi bar to the left, as section featuring booths and tables to the right then straight ahead you have the largest area, the bar area. The ambiance was great and fitting for a sushi place. We started off with the edamame and followed up with some sushi of course! They have an extensive menu of not only sushi, but basic Asian dishes from fried rice, lo mein, won ton soup, etc...so, if you are not a sushi fan, then have no fear...you are good here! We had no complaints with our rolls or unagi...the only thing that was off was the service. We ordered drinks shortly into being seated and it took over 15 minutes to get our drinks. Additionally, once we received our food and drinks, our server was absent for majority of our meal. Overall, solid place and experience with a hiccup with service. This is not the place for that asian dish you remember. I ordered what was supposed to be a Korean beef dish similar to GAL-BI or bulgogi. It was terrible. The flavor was hideous. Thin squares of beef jerky on top of a leaf marinated in some kind of smokey teriyaki flavor that tasted like fish oil. No extra lettuce rice or anything to make it somewhat similar to that of Korea. I asked to substitute my Kimchi for mashed potatoes and they charged me full price for an already $22 plat of the worst beef jerky imaginable. The worst place I have ever eaten. The waitress was awesome and the atmosphere was great too. I seen a decent sushi bar and pub also but for me, my dining experience was not good at all. read more

My husband and I had dinner here for Valentine's day and to be honest, it started out rough. I won't go into details, but Laureen, our waitress, put a lot of effort into making our night end well once she recognized there was an issue. She really turned the night around and we were very lucky to have her. The food was delicious! We ordered the shumai, which was tasty. The surf clam sushi was incredibly tasty, probably the best I've had. I ordered the Thai red curry crispy duck, especially since Laureen had suggested it, and so good! I find saketumi to be a solid choice for a good dinner, although sometimes it depends on what you order. A perfect example was our dinner last night. My gf and I started off with the bacon wrapped scallop appetizer, which should be an easy hit for any sushi joint worth its wasabi. At saketumi it was a miss .. Tons of bacon wrapped around a tiny little piece of scallop that I could barely find. Not a good start. She usually orders sushi for her entree while i tend to order off the chinese side of the menu. The sushi entrees and rolls are always fresh and skillfully presented, if not spectacular. My crispy fried whole red snapper, on the other hand, was just fantastic! I was like, how are these two dishes (the snapper and the scallops) coming out of the same kitchen? And for just two dollars more, it is so much better than the crispy fried flounder, which I've had in past visits. I've included a pic of my fried snapper with this review, it was so delicious and beautifully presented, it made my whole night. Even our drinks were a hit and a miss. Her rehoboth beach with blue curacao and coconut rum was delish. In my mojito, however, it seemed like the mint got muddled too much, so that grassy little pieces came up the straw with every sip. This may be a nitpick, but I'm tellin ya there is a wrong way and a right way to make this drink. We were immediately greeted with very friendly service and they took our order and offered a secondary cocktail en happy hour price.
