The place was almost empty on a Saturday night that should have been our first clue. The hibachi was no good. Fried rice was extra $10 (which we passed on) and the shrimp was swimming in a sauce on a fajita style plate. The hibachi steak was like leather. And who has hibachi and no mustard sauce? The sushi was not fresh. The crunchy spicy tuna had no crunch. If your expecting a good Japanese restaurant this is not the place! We will never go back. read more

I love sushi and I was eager to try Saketumi since it had good reviews and the decor was very nice. It was honestly some of the worst sushi I've had in a long time. I ordered a spider roll and a spicy tuna hand roll. I also ordered the grilled shrimp papaya salad as an appetizer. The spider roll is a warm sushi roll with deep fried soft shell crab. The crab was not fresh and over battered. The avocado in the roll was old and mushy. There was also strange cabbage hanging off the ends. Never seen that in any spider roll ive had in the past. Also the spicy tuna had a strange flavor of soy and siracha. The seaweed was mushy and made the whole roll chewy. The papaya salad was good minus the frozen shrimp that were grilled, making them chewy and unpleasant. I gave it two stars only for the friendly staff and nice decor. For a nice seafood place by the beach, the ingredients used did not reflect that. Don't waste your money here on overpriced sushi. read more

Service was achingly slow. It was a Friday night and busy, but the restaurant was half full. The server did warn us eventually that there was going to be a delay, but could have done something minor like given us a round of drinks or some cheap appetizer or something to keep us from getting so snarly. I heard so many great things about this place, unfortunately for us they were not true. Came here with an average size group, my brother, his wife and my one year old niece and my partner. When we arrived they asked if we had a reservation, we didn't not because we were not aware we needed one. Well they seemed happy to accomadate us, but we had to sit in the upstairs bar area, which we thought was fine. Well it seems that there were only two people (the bartenders) taking care of the entire upstairs. It wasn't packed, but there were about 35 people all together. It seems that they also took care of the outside patio as well. Well, it seemed ok at first, they got out drink orders and appetizers, but it seemed to go down hill from there. We had to repeatly ask for things and they never checked on us. Even after we got our food it took them a while before we got our check, and even then it took them a while to bring back the credit cards. The food was ok, I like the sushi, but it seemed to. Be just dumped on the plate, no presentation, and the entrees could have been better. For the price, totally not worth it, but it may be better if you sit at the actual sushi bar. read more

Pleasantly surprised and quality, variety and prices of the sushi at Saketumi. We are fans of the Cultured Pearl on Rehoboth Ave., but Saketumi was really good too and a good deal cheaper! It's also much easier to get a table than Cultured Pearl in the summer. When we were there, they had the most amazing bento box specials. We didn't order one, but they looked great. My only complaint was that the sushi bar was slow. Not painfully so when you're out with friends, but a little too slow for families with hungry kids. We will definitely return! read more

Service is all right, friendly but not over the top. Food is however horrific. We tried the sushi portion of the menu. Rice is dried, fish is not fresh. If it wasn't for the service it would be a 1 for food. How can you mess up a simple sushi roll. Prices are fair. read more

My fiance and I ate at Saketumi this past weekend. We arrived around 8:30pm on Saturday night and were seated immediately. This is a very modern Japanese restaurant with amazing decor (red, black, white) and a very cool sushi bar. I had the pomegrante mojito to drink and it was yummy. To start, I had the Royal Shrimp Wonton soup and Eric enjoyed the pork and shrimp steamed dumplings. Eric had the sirloin and shrimp hibachi for his dinner and said it was excellent. Veggies were very fresh. Of course, I had to go for the sushi for my dinner. I had the crispy calamari and tuna roll (YUM!) and a special roll called the Chesapeake Bay roll (crabmeat and shrimp tempura wrapped with avocado...soooo good). Ate here this past weekend while on a girl's Christmas shopping trip at the outlets and was beyond impressed. We had sushi, a sampler appetizer, and kobe beef skewers. The kobe beef skewers were a tad overpriced, four small pieces of slightly overcooked beef, but tasty seasonings. The sushi, however, was phenomenal! All fresh, flavorful and beautiful. We had the Chesapeake bay roll, Philadelphia roll, Crispy Tuna, Sweet Potato, Asparagus, and Cucumber and all were delicious! Would definitely recommend and return. read more

Sushi and hibachi were pretty good, although not the best you can find in Rehoboth. Modern fun atmosphere, but it can get crowded. No problems with Saketumi at all; I just prefer some of the other restaurants in the area. read more

Our first time to this restaurant but not our last. We enjoyed the wine suggestion. Had Shumai appetizer - good but more meat than we're accustomed to, would have liked a lighter version. Sushi was all excellent. Their hot green tea was among the best we've ever had and the server was kind enough to find out the name of it for us. I have been coming to Saketumi from the very beginning. It was my favorite sushi restaurant above all others. I am saddened to say that today was the worst experience ever. The only star would be for Brandon. He is such a nice guy and a great bartender . The sushi was horrible!! I was so disappointed!! The rolls were half the size(but the price was the same). The ginger tasted like paint thinner. The rolls lacked freshness. The individual pieces were missing the wasabi. The tuna was served over a piece of bland rice and the size was half of what it used to be! Even the hot sake was different , it tasted like it was watered down!! The edamame with Chile oil was not even close to being spicy !! The amount of money you spend here used to be well worth it, but now it's so not worth it!! I am so sad, this was my favorite sushi restaurant, but way too many changes and food was of a low quality. I have had better sushi at the supermarket. I ordered the Habitchi chicken and shrimp because I don't eat sushi... My chicken was so over cooked it was chewey. It only came with plain white rice, no noodles or yum yum sauce (which is usually always presented when ordering Habitchi food.) My fiancé ordered sushi, which usually he loves. He said that it didn't have any flavor and was not impressed. We did have the crab wontons which were pretty delish! Now, on to the waitress.... Let's not even get started on her. She didn't take our dinner order until our app came out. We waited forever for refills and hardly even saw her on the floor. All in all we were not impressed. This is my favorite restaurant in all of Rehoboth Beach!!!!! I LOVE the shrimp wonton soup. The best ever!!!! I go there every summer when I come to the beach and get different items but always the soup. Last night we got a number of appetizers as our meal and were stuffed when we left. My wife and I went there for our anniversary dinner last night. The decor was fantastic and a very nice selection of bottled beers. I loved that midas touch was available. We started with the calamari and it was perfectly cooked. Her seaweed salad was perfect and the wonton was perfect. The best part, though was the sushi. Definitely good food. Very easy to rack up a bill. I don't eat sushi so I can't comment on it. The spring rolls were freshly made and boiling hot, as was all the other food ordered. Good pork dumplings, good udon noodles with chicken, and o.k. pineapple fried rice. The drinks were also incredibly strong yet still drinkable...a huge plus! My girlfriend and i tried Saketumi a few weeks back, and we've been back twice since then. The sushi is very fresh, well-plated, and they have some interesting flavor combinations. The wine is a bit pricey, but the sushi itself is fairly reasonable. We've quickly made this place a regular spot for us... and even her children (ages 16 and 13) really enjoy it as well. They came with us the last time we visited and they both enjoyed the sushi as well as one of the tempura dishes. read more

My 9 month old daughter was in her car seat asleep. I wanted to sit at the high tops and put her carrier on the floor. There was no one in there and the bartender asked me to leave. He said happy hour was a big promotion. It was 3pm and I said happy hour doesn't start for a hour I just want to eat a quick roll and have a drink and I'll be gone by four. So, I think no matter how good the food is, attitude can leave a sour taste anyway. For starters, management apparently requires that the people at the welcome desk NEVER smile. A greeting with even the slightest indication that they are happy you're there would be refreshing. On to the food, ... if I remember the story correctly, the attraction to this restaurant was that they imported some highly regarded sushi chef from New York. Among other things, I asked for a roll from their menu with the addition of tuna wrapped around the outside of it. I told the waiter I knew it would cost extra and to just bill me for the extra charge. I've done this at sushi restaurants ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. After 10 minutes, the waiter came back and said, "We can't do that - we're too busy". Mind you, half of the tables were empty. This is a similar experience to the last few times I was there. I keep going back hoping they've improved, but, ... well, ... at least they'r consistent. Enough - for me, this was the last visit. The folks just up the road at "Tokyo", where the sushi is as good and the recipes are more imaginative, are always happy you're there, smiling and eager to make anything you want.
