I was impressed with the delicious food, the generous portions and the first-rate service at this new restaurant during my dine-in lunch visit. The Hunan chicken lunch ($11.99) was served with a smile ten minutes after I ordered at the table. It was loaded with a flavorful sauce, premium chicken and a good variety of veggies. I liked the healthy, moist, brown rice option (+$1.25) and the two crab rangoons. The dining area was clean and newly remodeled with a sushi bar, one TV and five tables. A soda dispenser and a liquor license for sake are expected soon. I found the service to be cheerful, friendly and genuinely interested in feedback - nice! The menu includes appetizers, Asian wok, noodles, sushi, meals for the kiddos, lunch specials and gluten-free choices. The lunch special prices weren't especially value priced, and I wasn't a fan of the fried rice and brown rice upcharges, so overall, I'm going with very nice!

Pretty sub par sushi. I got the love boat and I'd say the nigiri was average and the rolls were kind of hit and miss. The caterpillar was really cream cheese and avocado heavy and some rolls were too saucy. Other like the Godzilla were great so hard to say. Service was good overall and the ambiance was alright.

Great selection of Asian dishes. Fresh sushi, good flavor and presentation. Very enjoyable lunch stop

The food was good, service was great, looked to me like a new restaurant. My food price was different from advertised in the menu, being less than advertised. Apparently I chose a lunch combo that was lesser that the menu showed. Would eat there again.

I came here after a soccer game with my mom and it was a nice calming relief to the hot day. The decor was very cute and the music had a nice ambiance. We were immediately greeted by someone and were seated right away. They were very attentive throughout the meal and we didn't even have to ask for anything. My mom ordered a blue crab roll while I got fried rice and chicken. Mine wasn't very flavorful, but to be granted I got a plain dish. Other than that it was very good. My mom thought the roll was heavenly and ate the entire thing. Something else to add is that the portions are humongous, the prices are relatively cheap, and we got complimentary desert.

Tried out a new sushi/Asian fusion restaurant-interior of the store is super adorable. Service very friendly and attentive. The jalapeños yellowtail was very good. The miso was tasty, doesn't taste like it's from a kit. Price was decent and wasn't overpriced. Recommend going

Along…read morewith the two rolls I had (pictured), which were part of a lunch special, I had miso soup (included in the lunch special) and crab rangoons (not included in the special). The staff was friendly and helpful, and the space was charming, with a Japanese cooking show playing on a wall mounted tv, nice music playing in the space, and eclectic decor throughout. Everything was also very clean and organized, and I appreciated the amazing prices for the food! The quality is on par with other Japanese restaurants I have been to, which often charge more even for their lunch special. I'll absolutely be returning to Sam's in the future to try more of their food!

I would like to be very honest here, I was really misled by the ratings and reviews here on Yelp…read more While I thought the decor was really nice, added a cute Korean and Japanese touch, the food did let me down. We got the Yummy Combo with Garden Salad ($17), the Mango Tango Roll ($14), and the Sakura Blossom Roll ($14). The service was fast, and our server was very sweet and caring. To begin with, even though the sushi looked colorful and appealing, it lacked taste. It was missing seasoning, felt stale, and had almost zero freshness. It reminded me of the premade sushi you get at PanAsia, Target, or Sam's Club. Freshness is a huge factor for me when I go out for sushi, but this just didn't have it. The rice was dry by the time it reached our table, and it wasn't sticky enough. It felt like the cold rice was microwaved and then used to make sushi - that's the feeling I got. I also didn't think it was worth the money. We spent over $50 + after tax and tip for three rolls, which is similar to what many other sushi restaurants charge, but those places serve much fresher and better quality sushi - Sushi Uni in Lenexa. The garden salad dressing was also a complete disappointment. It had no distinct ginger flavor or even enough seasoning. It was very thick and heavily spread over the salad, which made it unpleasant to look at and eat. Overall, the service was excellent, but the food didn't live up to the ratings or the price. The three stars are for the lovely server, the beautiful decor, and the well presented sushi. I really hope they improve the freshness because, based on the older reviews, they seem to have the potential to serve much better sushi. If they do, I will be the first one to definitely come back to try more of their beautiful looking rolls.

While we didn't have to wait for a table, almost all of them were full when we arrived. Ika is a smaller space in a strip mall off of 119 in Leewood, so there's not a ton of seating but the restaurant went further back than where we sat so there's probably more room than I could see. The kitchen/sushi bar is right up front when you walk in and takes up a good amount of room toward the front but it's aesthetically pleasing. The decor was very nice and everything was clean. They have a big chalk board near the front door, on the wall with their specials. They have quite a few. The menu is very large and our server came over about 5 minutes after we were seated. We ordered some edamame but asked for some more time to look at the menu. When the edamame came out, we placed our order. We decided to both get a side salad with ginger dressing and share two of their special rolls. We got one of the specials off the board, the Hidden Dragon. It was really good and by far my favorite out of the 2 rolls we got. My friend also really liked this roll and thought it was the better of the two. The other roll we got was the Rainbow which is a California roll topped with various types of fish. Neither of us are big fans of salmon so we asked for it to be left off. I didn't really like this roll. I normally love tuna but I prefer it cut a bit thinner and I'm used to it almost having a butter texture where it melts in your mouth. I'm not sure what was going on but all of the tuna had a very strong flavor and yes, I'll say it was fishy. I realize some people like that but I don't. Maybe it was the Hamachi (yellowtail) but it was not for me. I tried 2 pieces and that was enough. My friend liked it better than me but definitely preferred the Hidden Dragon too. I would probably give them a 3.5 if that was an option because the Hidden Dragon roll was very good. The service was efficient and quick. Not overly friendly. They never even acknowledged my friend's bday even though she was opening gifts and we sat a small birthday pop up paper cake card on the table. Not that we expected anything but maybe just a comment about her birthday. Maybe they were too rushed for anything extra. My disappointment in the tuna on the Rainbow roll is my reason for the lower rating. The rolls are $18 each so getting one I really couldn't eat is unfortunate. They also use the crab salad and not just a piece of crab in their rolls. I prefer the latter because I'm not too fond of all the extra mayo from the crab salad. I missed taking pics of our rolls! The Hidden Dragon looked fantastic and the Rainbow looked better than it tasted, lol. My friend still enjoyed her afternoon birthday lunch! I would possibly try them again to explore something else on the menu since there were so many options but I won't go out of my way to return.
