Big first of all: Make sure you get to take a peak at the full sushi menu before ordering. During my visit tonight, we only realized that there was a special sushi menu when we were handing our regular menus back to the server. The sushi form that everyone fills out doesn't have the special rolls on it -- the special rolls that I kept eyeing at the other tables as the night went on. But even with the more basic rolls, they were just OK, as the three stars denote. I got the Crunch Crab roll (deep fried crab and cucumber), Dynamite Shrimp roll (fried, shrimp, spicy crab, avocado and cucumber) and the Fried Shrimp roll, which was $3.95 due to some sushi rolls being marked down on Thursdays. (I really like shrimp and crab.) The first two were my favorites of the three. Loved the crunch of the Crunch Crab, and the Dynamite Shrimp was very flavorful. The Fried Shrimp, though, was bland. I also tried my boyfriend's Spicy Tuna roll, which was also marked down. It definitely had a bite to it but didn't really have much flavor besides that. In general, the rolls were good, but the seaweed was very tough to bite through. And considering many of the rolls I received were too large for one bite -- and this was especially true with the end pieces -- they fell apart when I tried to bite through them. And when a person is stuck with half of a giant sushi roll in his/her mouth and seaweed that won't budge, your only options are to somehow find a way to stuff it all in your mouth quickly or let the roll's center fall apart down your chin, back on to the plate -- neither of which are good or graceful. We also ordered edamame that never came. When we asked our waitress to take it off the bill since we never got it, she was apologetic. Some pluses, though: * Our group of nine easily got a table after waiting just a few minutes. The staff was very accommodating. * Sakura Blue also has hibachi. * Other weekly specials include $1 house wine on Mondays, penny sake night on Tuesdays and half price beer on Wednesdays. Even though Sakura Blue only warranted three stars this time around, I hope to go back, try some of its specialty rolls and raise this rating in the future. read more

Great value as the sushi rolls are very good sized! There are several menus and it can be a bit confusing, but once you find your favorites you can write them in on the sheets. Hidden gem. Idk how this place isn't packed 24/7. My fiancé and I have been multiple times and have never been close to disappointed. For less than $60 we get 2 giant sushi rolls a hibachi dinner and a stone pot steak bibimbap. The staff is always so welcoming and attentive. They have great lunch specials and a fun sushi menu. This last visit was for lunch. I enjoyed the chicken bento box lunch special and my dad had the teriyaki chicken lunch special. Both were served with their reliable side salad with ginger dressing. We both left full and for a very reasonable price. FYI they did up-charge us both $2 for fried rice substitution without letting us know about the additional charge. I'll be honest I have to rate this on the MW sushi spectrum. Not to sound snobby but after eating sushi in CA and Hawaii anything is subpar based on it. I went for lunch and stared with the miso soup. It was miso soup....hot, delicious, delicious For the sushi roll I landed on the one with eel and then tuna on the outside which was good. I came here years ago and wasn't super impressed, but recently ordered it for delivery since they were the only ones left open and was pleasantly surprised! I only ordered two rolls, in case it was how I remembered. The one I have pictured is the Sakura Dragon which they forgot the spicy tuna on top :( I don't typically even like spicy crab so that was the sell, but I will say the roll was huge and I'm impressed w the generous amount of eel!! I also got a fried roll which I don't normally do and it was still warm when it arrived! I'd suggest giving this place a shot if you haven't before. I'll be returning as well. read more

I was out in Louisville visiting my 3 y/o nephew and he wanted to try sushi. I found this spot on maps and decided to give it a try. We were greeted by the sweetest staff, and the service was all around amazing. We loved it so much we went twice, and it was great both times ! Our servers were so sweet to my nephew, even gave him the little thing to help him with his chopsticks haha and asked about his toys to make conversation with him. The place was cozy, and nice. We tried the delicious miso soup, spicy tuna roll, Philadelphia was amazing. The salmon tastes amazing I'm going to miss it haha. My nephew loved it too and he kept saying "I want sushi" everyday after that. Oh, he also had the chicken soup and loved it. This place is not super amazing or anything but it's definitely pretty good. Reasonably priced. Our waitress gave us free ginger salads because we had to wait about 25 min for our sushi rolls, which we didn't mind at all but that was super sweet of her! This place is a hidden gem! The quality of fish is nice and the food is always consistent. All of their nigiri and sashimi options are delicious and I love the wasabi relish on top. It also came with rice options, fried rice was ok, California roll, tempura, and a soup or salad. I have to say my favorite thing was the salad dressing, it was really good. Otherwise the tempura was on the greasy side, and the California rolls were a little on the thick side. Wow. Who likes bad experiences at restaurants? Who likes writing bad experience reviews about restaurants? Ugh it's like a chore. We came to this place as our second choice and I was already wary because of other reviews but figured I'd try it anyway. We were close by and hungry. It was bad. The food was fine, the atmosphere was okay, but I didn't enjoy the service at all. This place is tucked in a small plaza in a corner but it should creep deeper into a smaller crevice. The tables were filmy and grimey and the glasses were the same way. The soda was flat and weird and not good at all. It was a slow night and I only saw three employees on the floor, but it was a slow night. We were seated quickly enough and had some time to look over the menu. Then our waiter came by and seemed very much in a rush. I would have ordered more from the menu, but he seemed like there was some dire emergency that he needed to attend to and seemed way too intense for just taking an order. He really seemed like he didn't want to be there nor understand how hospitality and tipping work. So it was very strange... table of two but only one place setting. That was fine but when I asked for one more he lazily tossed/slid it at me which is pretty rude. I don't know why he was so offended by us being there, but the attitude was terrible and unwelcoming. I actually contemplated and mentioned walking out before all of our food came out because it was that uncomfortable. Like dude, I never met you before... I'm just here to eat. You work at this restaurant. That should be a good enough of a connection. But to have this brooding emo presence lingering around just killed the vibe. I felt like I was bothering him anytime I needed anything. So the food came out, captain frowny face moped around doing his thing... we ate the food and it was good enough, tipped per the service received and couldn't get out fast enough never to return. The hostess was pretty nice and I wish she'd served us instead, but the dude with the tattoos should work somewhere he's happier at. The food was okay. It was difficult to enjoy because of the atmosphere. We had salmon sushi, tempura udon, and the salmon avocado roll. Nothing terrible about any of the dishes but I would've ordered more given the chance. There are much better spots on Bardstown road (Dragon Kings Daughter comes to mind) that I would much rather spend money at. I wish we had left for that place. This is one of those places where even if a group of friends all wanted to go to, I would have to stand my ground and refuse to walk back in. Just terrible. read more

I frequent Sakura Blue multiple times a month and constantly bring my friends with me. They look over the menu, a decent size but nothing special in comparison to some others in the area. The place isn't dazzling or super fancy by any means, but it's comfortable, well kept, and clean. But then a server comes up almost within 1 minute, a sushi restaurant rarity, and you are greeted with a wonderful smile. The sushi chefs look up and wave, the owner never forgets you and always greets you with a smile. I always get a smorgasbord of sashimi and nigiri - the fish is so fresh and cut perfectly where you still get a great portion without it being difficult to eat. The salmon tartar is absolutely delicious and I usually get it as a meal because, let's be frank, some things I will not share. The fish hat is another great roll I recommend. On days where I'm trying to not overdo it, I get nigiri, veggie maki, and a fried rice, and even that seems better than any other place in town. Big or small, they always give 120%. The prices are fantastic, the food is wonderful, and the service is always inviting and pleasant. read more

My last experience was on a Sunday evening with one of my friends and her baby. We each had a couple of glasses of wine and a house salad and a sushi roll. The food was good but not remarkable. The server seemed pretty distracted and it took a long time to get our drinks. I guess to sum it up- if you are in the area and looking for some good sushi and atmosphere and service are not that important to you- Sakura Blue is a good option. We were really hungry and also really had been craving sushi. We found ourselves near here, so figured we stop in. My experience may have been better if we had asked to be seated at the sushi bar....but instead we were at a small table right next to the door. The weather was particularly cool and rainy and we blustered and breezed all through dinner anytime the door opened. The tables that are there are pushed so SO close together, I was like we were having an intimate dining experience with the couple next to us. The sushi was pretty ok. We saw a movie and where looking for a good Japanese restaurant close by that had good reviews. This was our first time here and are expectations were far exceeded. We love a Bento Box and Sakura Blue offers four options. Two lunch options and Bento A and Bento B for dinner. I opted for B as you get three pieces of Sashimi and a roll while the Bento B you get 8 California rolls. Both Bento Boxes come with a Salad with ginger dressing and a Miso soup. The salad was a little soupy at the bottom but the ginger dressing had a nice flavor. The Miso soup was very good with a small amount of tofu and an abundance of seaweed. Both Bento Boxes come with white rice. You can order friend rice for an extra charge. The Bento Boxes come with a choice of Chicken teriyaki or beef. We both opted for chicken and really enjoyed the teriyaki flavor. Plenty of chicken with mushrooms and broccoli. A nice portion that could have been a meal for someone with a small appetite. Also on the bento box was two skewers with three shrimps on each skewer. The shrimp was delicious and we enjoyed and savored every bite. The bento box included a variety of vegetable tempura and two shrimp tempura. The tempura was excellent with a good batter coating that was not overwhelming greasy with a nice crispness to the vegetables and shrimp . Again this could have been a meal for a person with a small appetite. Finally both Bento boxes included two gyoza. Gyoza is not something I like that much but my wife thought it was great. We both have big appetites and the Bento Box left me stuffed. I should have been like my wife and got a to go box for another meal the next day but when everything is so delicious it is hard to stop when your full. I have the bad habit of eating for taste. I ate everything. One problem was your food gets a little cold because you have so much food to consume. You could easily split a bento box and leave satisfied and order an additional salad, miso soup and rice but spoil yourself and take some home for another meal the next day. The restaurant itself is in a strip mall close to Trader Joe's and the Post office with an assortment of other businesses so the parking and traffic is very congested so be careful. We parked away and walked to avoid the craziness. The restaurant has a sushi bar where you can sit a nice option for single dinners. The restaurant is small and has booths and tables. I would estimate 40 people would fill the restaurant. The atmosphere is pleasant and there is a large screen tv behind the sushi bar. The service was excellent as we came around 2 so not a busy time. Our server was very pleasant and definitely Japanese woman and was so polite and accommodating answering out questions and making suggestions. The bathrooms could use updating but who really cares about a bathroom decor as long as it is clean which it was. This is the type of place you hate to give great reviews too because if the word gets out everyone will want to go and you might not be able to get a table the next time but you have to be kind and say go go go. Dined here for a work lunch during a holiday week at a prime hour. I expected a long-sit, but given the circumstances, I do have to note that the service was super slow. I was there for an hour and forty-five minutes. We all got sushi, and our plates arrived at different times, so my coworkers were finished eating before I got my rolls. I would say that I wouldn't pick Sakura outright for a sushi lunch again, except their off menu salmon skin hand roll was actually on point. Crispy the way I like, and with clean flavors. Only $5.95.
