Decided to sit in a booth this time at Sakura Hibachi, and it ended up being the perfect choice. My girlfriend and I weren't feeling very "people-y" tonight, so the more intimate, low-key vibe was exactly what we wanted. Everything was great as always the food was fresh, flavorful, and came out hot. Service was smooth without being overbearing, which we really appreciated. It was just a comfortable, enjoyable experience from start to finish. Definitely a great spot whether you're in the mood for the hibachi show or a quieter dinner. We'll be back. read more

I took a Party of 18 there today. They had 2 chefs and two servers to serve us. It was not at all good. The food didn't stay on the habatchi long enough to give it good flavor. The chef was very short with us and I was disappointed as the showmanship and the cooking should want us to return. I will not return. The drinks were terrific! But the wait for refills and whatnot was too long. Also it is so outdated and dirty. The woman's bathroom was so so disgusting. We got there at 1 pm so bathroom should have been clean and the servers should have been able to be on top of us. read more

Quantity over quality - that's Sakura. I remember when it first opened, when Toledo had a wave of sushi and hibachi restaurants hit it, with Sakura, all of these years later, being the only one still standing in West Toledo. The atmosphere is a little worn out, and the smells inside are surprisingly fishy these days. The staff are fine, and the food is also... fine. That's it. Nothing is great, or even a little better than passing, but the portions are huge. After our recent visit after a few years off, we're going to take another break. when I went to Shakura I went with a friend who asked me to go cause she had a taste for it and so at first, I was a little Larry, but I went anyway I say let's go ahead and go when I got there. I was reading the menu and the menu if you are allergic to have allergies to let the waitress know well I will let the waitress know that I was allergic and she told me that they would cook my meal in the kitchen, but when the sous chef came out and and he pointed at me asking me. How did I want my steak that steak and shrimp and I pointed at the next person because my food was supposed to be cooked in the kitchen and so that's what I was expecting and then when the waitress came out, I asked the waitress about my food that was being cooked in the kitchen and she said to me, don't ask me tell him and I was like well. I had already thought my food was getting cooked in the kitchen, and then the sushi chef looked at me because he's wonder what's going on, but I was. I'm allergic to fish and they said that they were going to be cooking fish on the grill and they had actually had scallops and something else and so I didn't know that they didn't have fish that's what I was told and then when the sous chef I had to tell him now he's looking at me and he's cooking my steak. He gonna say well I said well I guess you know I supposed to tell you when I was supposed to I want my steak Min well and he said well what are you think? I was asking you for your phone number and I was like, but I didn't know that I was supposed to tell him because the waitress that I already told me my food would be cooked in the kitchen and then it got changed to him cooking it so I tell him anyway with my steak is supposed to be and he takes my steak while he's cooking it with the scallops and he cooks my steak right next to the scallops and then he moves the scallops and put my steak right on where the scallops were cooked, but I'm I'm allergic to fish not shellfish so that was think my goodness I was not allergic. I mean I probably should've said something there, but I was confused and I watched him do that with my steak so I was not happy and that was my night and even the gentleman of the people that were sitting there with us heard the conversation was like yes your food was supposed to be cooked in the kitchen because it was better for you, but I was just stunned that the sushi chef did that my food. and then once we got our food, I just ate my food and packed up what I had left over and took it home, and that was the ordeal when I went to the restaurant. read more

The food was delicious. The ambience was not pleasant. I visited recently on a Friday night and it was not good. A lot of adult customers were screaming, being disrespectful of their surroundings, and ruined the ambience of a wonderful restaurant with great staff and delicious food. I would not return. If anything I would order takeout from this place. Don't waste your time trying to have a wonderful evening here you will not receive it. I hope they will fix this problem. read more

We were looking for a new place to get together with our favorite people and decided to try Sakura Japanese Steakhouse. What a great idea! This is a fun and interesting restaurant, it offers a wide variety of Japanese cuisine in a pleasant environment. But the REALLY gun part is the hibachi grill tables! Yes there was tossing of small pieces of food, large flames and clouds of steam, impressive spatula work and fun comments from the chef!!! And, service was great, attentive and friendly, the food was great and the showmanship OUTSTANDING! I would recommend it for someone with a special occasion or looking for a new experience. Prices were reasonable, food was great, only thing I would strongly recommend reservations if you desire a hibachi table!!! It's well worth the effort! read more

Took the family here for a spring break, night out, dinner. It was just "okay" but something just felt off. Maybe the 70s vibe? Worn down? I've been to plenty of hibachi restaurants in California back in the 80s and 90s when hibachi was the thing, so perhaps I was anticipating equal or better experience. A party of five and the vegetarian meal was excellent, the scallop meal was excellent, but the chicken hibachi was a bit dry. We always love the fresh salad with the ginger dressing, and of course the fried rice. As a visitor, I am not sure I will return to this establishment, but it was good to venture out. read more

I've never been a hibachi fan but others love it and it's always entertaining to watch as long as no one is trying to throw food at me. It always looks and smells so good. I definitely love sushi and Sakura's is always good. Fresh fish and beautiful presentation. The rolls seem a little blase and not much originality but I always find something to order and walk away happy. The restaurant is mostly hibachi tables with a nice size bar and a few other regular tables. It is a nice, upscale environment with a koi pond and bridge to walk over at the entrance. I have heard many people saying different things about Sakura, some good and some not so good. Went on a Sunday evening and the parking lot was somewhat crowded. We were seated right away and it appeared to be in the "time out corner" and right behind our table was a catch all of no longer used items were "stored" and we also had a view of the backside of the server station. Not a good initial impression. Server was good but seemed to disappear for long periods of time. We then saw our server tending to tables on the opposite corner of the room, so we wrote it off as being understaffed like many other food establishments due to government handouts enabling society to ride out the free money wave. Food was quite good but the sushi rolls seemed a bit smaller than what we are accustomed to when dining at a higher end Japanese Steakhouse House. We will visit again in hopes of better seating and more servers on staff with the end result of a higher rating. read more

This has been our go-to spot for years but this last visit has me rethinking my restaurant choice in the future. First, when we sat down at the bar, the sushi chef was picking his nose on the line. I watched closely because had he not washed his hands and put on gloves I would have walked out. But to be doing that in the public view at all is unacceptable. Secondly, we found out that our favorite sushi chef Danny was let go and no longer there since our last visit. And the food has suffered for it. Danny's plates were a masterpiece every time with lots of care placed in the preparation and presentation. Our Sushi-Sashimi Dinner for two this time was sub par. The fish was just thrown on the plate, the sushi was missing the dallop of Wasabi on the rice and Danny would never have served us a whole imitation crab stick on top of rice and called that sushi. It was a very cheaped down version of what used to be a fabulous plate. The bartender was amazing as all of their bar staff consistently is. But we come there for the sushi and this new chef is not the same level of quality that we have had or expect. Time to find a new restaurant in Toledo when my craving hits. When the soup and salad was brought to our table I noticed a black and green thing sitting on a piece of the lettuce. Upon further inspection it was a bug, with antenna's and all!! After flagging down the waiter I told them to cancel all our food and that we would be leaving. She did go grab the manager who did come over and said, "I'm so sorry, but these things happen with vegetable items". I do understand to a degree, but that's why you wash and inspect your food! With everything going on and the restaurant being a bit busy when we went, our waitress was very nice and accommodating to our needs (i wish i remembered her name). We sat in the back room at the lowered tables which was pretty neat since we've never sat there before. This is the second time in a couple months that I had to ask if someone was going to wait on us. (My sons third time) it seems we have been seated at the same or almost same booth each time. We had a 530 reservation for five. We waited till 6 PM to ask if anyone was going to come and bring us drinks or take our order. There were wait staff waiting on people all around us. and none of them acknowledged us. I had to literally stop one of them and ask for help. We were sat at booth and my adult son had to sit in a chair at the end of the table out in the aisleway. When we received our salads to eat, we had to wait just under 10 more minutes in order to get silverware to eat it with. The food was fine. My husband ate his salad with his spoon from his soup. No manager came to the table or even came out at all. At the end we were charged $12.52 sales tax. This is the ninth day of Ohio tax free and restaurants are included. When the waitress inquired of the management. The manager said that it was his choice if he chose to charge tax or not . According to the statutes of the state they could be charged penalties, especially if they knowingly are charging customers state tax during tax free week. ( is the owner of the establishment keeping the monies charged for tax over the 10day period) Very, very disappointed the waitress was kind and obviously working hard, but there were so many issues that I haven't even mentioned. We have no intentions of returning to this restaurant again. read more

My wife and I came into your restaurant around 5:00 p.m. this evening to dine. We got a booth. It, unfortunately, took your waiter -- Selena -- at least five (5) minutes to greet us. Once she did, she got us our drinks and came back to take our order. We ordered a Dynamite Roll as an appetizer, Hibachi Chicken, and Vegetarian Hibachi. Our meals came about 20 minutes later with the exception of our appetizer -- Dynamite Roll. Selena came to check on us once after that. This was about 20 minutes into our dinner with what had shown up. When she came back 20 minutes later, she claimed that the "Sushi Chef" was extremely behind and it would take a bit longer for us to get our appetizer. Mind you. We had already finished our meals! Selena then brought us our Dynamite Roll once our plates were finished from our meal. I promptly asked her for the check. The check contained everything we ordered and she, not once, tried to accommodate us for our AWFUL experience. Selena did bring us a box for Dynamite Roll and, unfortunately, our $16.00 Dynamite Roll ended up in the trash since we had other things to attend to in Toledo before we could make the hour back home. I'm extremely disappointed in the service we exhibited tonight from your restaurant. I am extremely upset that I put down $53.00 on a meal that, quite frankly, never came in an orderly fashion. My question to management. Should I come again? Should I take another chance on awful service and a disregard for my hard earned money that I am spending at your restaurant? I did speak with, who I perceived was the manager, when I was walking out the door. His solution to this disaster was, "I'll talk to Selena about your service." Let's not just talk. This place is nice. Came on Valentine's day. Glad I made a reservation. We sat at a booth. If you're not in a group, the hibachi tables are a bit much. They were very busy which cuts down on their speed. But the quality makes up for it. I ordered two rolls: the dynamite roll and the spicy girl roll. Girlfriend had the bento box. That was a lot of food and makes for great leftovers. I don't frequent this establishment because it is a little high priced but worth it, plus there are many sushi places around. read more

PROBABLE REAL ANSWER: His California-girl wife loves sushi. ANSWER HE GIVES HIMSELF: Sakura is a fun and happening spot which has very good teppanyaki (which he does like). From the grill, I've had the chicken, filet mignon, tuna and even the scallops. Nothing unique about the taste of these items, but they are always very well prepared. HE GOES ON TO ADD: They have a good enough selection of sake and beer, not to mention a drink menu that is diverse and ever changing. Bakon Bloody Mary? Woo Hoo!! It's nice to hang out and imbibe on the patio during the summer months. Know this: Sakura can get busy and you may end up waiting up to 30 minutes from the time you sit down until the time your chef makes it to your teppan. But hey, that's what appetizers and side dishes (not to mention booze) are for. You might wait even longer to sit down. The waitresses, however, have always been great. Sushi? Oh yeah, I hear tell that they make sushi at Sakura, too. Six thumbs up from my wife, my brother-in-law, and my mother-in-law. The only thing I'm qualified to add is the following: If it's the taste of seaweed that is holding you back, the sushi chefs at Sakura are willing to use rice paper instead, for no, or only a nominal, extra fee. I usually go here for the half off sushi but this time since I was starving I ordered the vegetable dinner which included a salad, soup, tofu hibachi, and tempura vegetables! For the price it was definitely worth it! I'm the type of person who finishes food right then and there. In this case I had enough for the next morning as well. Both my sons and I went in on this past Saturday. We were seated with a lunch menu but charged for dinner prices. I asked the waitress what happened with bill compared to prices on menu. She went on to state that lunch was over by time she submitted order and it is not up to her it is the computer. Why as an business would you seat customer's with an menu with significate different prices? Like a big difference and have no apology or nothing. At least inform guess it is an cutoff time verbally or print on the menu or inform host to not seat customer with wrong menus if it is close to cutoff time for those particular prices.
