We've been regular customers at this restaurant for a long time and genuinely enjoyed eating here. We come often enough that we don't even need menus--we always order the same things. When the lunch closing time changed from 3:00 to 2:30, we adjusted our schedule to make sure we arrived with enough time to order and eat. Yesterday we arrived around 1:55 p.m., well before the posted 2:30 closing time, and were told at the host stand that they were "closed." Then we were told they stop taking food orders at 2:00. There is no signage, no notice on the door, and no indication online that last orders are taken earlier than the posted closing time. If food service ends at 2:00, that needs to be clearly communicated. What made this worse was the attitude of the hostess--she was short, abrupt, and unwelcoming. This wasn't a quick or convenient drive for us, and being turned away like that took time out of our day for no reason. It's honestly disappointing because we really did enjoy this place, but between the lack of communication and the poor interaction, we're done. We won't be returning to this location or any of the others. I'll also be sharing this experience with coworkers and friends, many of whom regularly eat here and follow our lead on where we order lunch. What a great find! The sushi at Sakura is very well put together, fresh, and delicious! Unfamiliar to the area, I searched Yelp looking for a dinner option under sushi, my go to comfort food, when Sakura appeared on my screen. At the time I entered the restaurant I was immediately greeted and quickly sat. Next to me, there was a table that had a chef putting on a show, entertaining his guests with tricks and laughter. The ambiance was nice with open booth seating, sushi bar seating, regular low top table seating, and of course the chef station seating with your own personal chef. We got there at 1100am when they open and looked at the menu and knew exactly what I wanted. Bento A with 1 choice. I chose shrimp and veg. tempura. It comes in a bento box it has rice, toss salad, edamame beans, shumai, and the veg and shrimp tempura. It was okay even though the shrimp tempura the coating was very crunchy. The shumai already was with the shumai sauce coated already, toss salad had a garlicky miso dressing, edamane beans were cooked ok. The sushi roll was very good. Called the Christmas roll. Two of us chose the tender beef teriyaki with crispy shrimp and vegetable tempura teishoku lunch special while our other friend chose the chicken katsu and shrimp and vegetable tempura meal. All sets came with miso soup, salad, rice, and soy beans for $16-17. What a deal! At first, I thought 6 shumai and 6 fried oysters were a great price at $6.95 each, but they were considerably smaller than most anywhere else I have purchased them. The shumai was also pasty. The oysters were probably from frozen - they had a bitter aftertaste. The fried octopus was no better - like breaded round, rubber balls. Each of the fried products had a similar bitter aftertaste, so I would hope Sakura checks their fryers. They either use old oil/dirty fryer, or their supplier makes subpar apps. The nigiri was narrow and, again, smaller than their competition. The flavor was also pale. Not old, just not much flavor you would expect from a fatty fish (salmon). The salmon roe and ikura were bland - no bright, briny, salty flavor. Not even a nice pop from the ikura roe. Completely unsatisfactory. I had been to Sakura before (late 2022 or early 2023), and it was very good. Something has happened along the way to make me forget this place as a viable option anytime I have a craving for sushi. Got takeout for the family since we were celebrating a special occasion and I heard from a few people that this was their favorite hibachi spot , i decided to full send and take the wheel and order from here. Now that was my first mistake on my part. I ordered the Hibachi Chicken and grilled shrimp combo for us all, thinking that was the safest choice. The chicken barely had any flavor , almost plain as if they didn't season it even if it had some sauce on it. It was disappointing, the noodles were gross as it seemed they just put loads of sugar on it. Probably the worst noodles i ever had in my life. It was so sweet .. the fried rice was probably the most decent though as i upgraded us all to fried rice. Veggies ? Weren't all that.. it was soggy.. I probably should've just ordered us filet mignon with lobster instead of that Hibachi chicken , maybe it would've been better. This is my sisters friends place and we've been supporting their endeavors since I grew up and their latest one kinda makes me miss when they managed #1 Chinese in Hilo more... For their latest place being close to my old hood I tend to come often with my family to show support but it's a mixed bag. When you go to the hibachi table it's a fun experience for those who haven't been to benihana or tanakas but for a much more approachable price. The chef's are super friendly and make massive portions for the price. Where this goes astray is their standard table fare. I have handicapped relatives and their lack of care crowding my elderly family as we adjust them into the booth as their walkers don't fit which is ok. Where it really goes out of hand is where the host and server constantly remind us that their walkers go near the host stand now I don't mind one but it's the same treatment for the last 2-3x with the same host who doesn't seem to understand that it takes forever and a day to get someone old into a seated position. They also don't take some of my folks allergies well as well given they seemed irritated that some of us wanted our plates with no shellfish (keep in mind we're not asking for double of anything or special treatment just to not go anaphylactic). The portions on the table fare do seem markedly smaller than the hibachi ones and at times nonexistent checkups by our server is a recipe for disappointment and therefore my score of my mixed bag for the spot. The service was absolutely horrible. I've been here plenty of times and never had an issue until tonight. We came in more than an hour before closing and were treated like an inconvenience from the start. I asked for straws, never got them, and when I reminded the server she snapped "One second" twice, then basically threw them on the table as if she were in a rush. The place wasn't even busy. She kept hovering and tried to snatch our food while we were still eating. She even grabbed my water in the middle of my meal and, when I said I wasn't done, she tried to give it back after her hands were all over it. At the end she dumped the checks on our table and another employee tried to grab it before we could even put our cards in. This was beyond rude and unprofessional. I wouldn't sit down here again if it were the last restaurant in town. If I ever return, it'll be strictly takeout so I don't have to deal with staff like this. read more

Ordered takeout here for lunch with my grandparents. We get takeout from here pretty regularly and I think depending on whoever the chef is, it will sometimes come out better than other times! They were very generous with the unagi don (2 pieces) but the rainbow roll was a bit smaller than the past times we've been. All donburi sets come with miso soup, even for takeout. The Kani Salad is always good, especially with the tempura flakes. This is one of the few sushi places in Mililani and it's very easy to get to. Sakura is also a great place for large groups as they have a lot of space inside. I would reccomend making a reservation for dinner as it usually gets pretty busy. read more

Our family loves this place and location. We typically sit at a table, because most of my children don't order items from the hibachi menu. The food and service are amazing. The lighting is dim, to accommodate for the hibachi shows on the grill tables located toward the back of the restaurant . Each server and chef ‍that we've encountered were very attentive and friendly. Back of the house is super fast with appetizers and entrees. The sushi also arrives pretty quickly unless of course their restaurant is packed. Pricing is similar to other sushi/hibachi locations around the area ($$). The fish is always fresh and very flavorful. Each sushi roll combination is different, so make sure you read each description carefully. If you're feeling indecisive AND have a group of people, try the boats! It always has a good variety of sushi and sashimi. They have chicken, steak, seafood, and veggie options on their menu. Tempura , katsu, teppanyaki , etc are all available on the menu. It's perfect for everyone. They do serve alcohol and they have a pretty extensive variety of beer, wine , and spirits . December 3rd 2023 Ambiance was cute and intimate. It's close to Christmas so they have lights hung around the room which is really nice. They have a few hibachi tables and then booth seating in the front. My server was kind and helpful. First of all, the pork gyoza appetizer was DELICIOUS! Definitely get that. Sushi rolls tried were Okinawa Roll, Boston Roll, and Snowman Roll. All were great and fresh. Drinks tried were Lava Flow and Tokyo Tea (both alcoholic.) I've been coming here since they've opened. Everything is always so good. Servers are always on point and food comes out pretty fast. But I do have to point out that they should always do a food quality check regularly especially if it's Raw seafood! I had made an online order for two orders of uni nigiri which totals out to 4pcs., 2 of the 4pcs you could already smell the spoilage on them.... If it smells like straight dookie just by opening the lid, then how did you guys (Sakura team) not notice it? Got invited with my friend and her family to dinner here. Spoke very highly of it, and I wasn't disappointed. There were four of us and we ordered an array of items and ended up splitting everything. Everything came out in order and allowed us time to enjoy the food without the table being over crowded. The oyster shooters were really flavorful - two come per order. The crispy tuna appetizer was really crisp and creamy with the avocado on top. Furikake chicken was piping hot and fresh from the kitchen! It had a great crunch and was cooked perfectly. The chili garlic tuna appetizer was also great, it needed nothing else, the flavors mingled perfectly in the mouth. The o'toro nigiri was my favorite. It was like butter and melted in my mouth. It didn't need anything on it. Gyoza looked good, nice crisp from being pan fried and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I got the samurai roll and it was pretty good. Spicy salmon and spicy tuna wasn't spicy to me. It was a little bland without soy or wasabi. The rolls were a good size for the price and everything did taste really fresh. Lychee martini was also really good, light, refreshing. Noise is average with the music on and the hibachi grills were pretty loud with customers but overall, inside was nice and pretty busy for a Wednesday night. The customer service was fantastic! The ambiance was alright reminded me similar to a Sushi restaurant in Germany owned by Chinese family. It was overwhelmingly decorated like walking into Chinese castle with lots of glass chandeliers, art decor and huge statues! I do like the booth table setting and regular tables. There were slowly having customers straggling into the restaurant. May I say the tempura like in Japan was actually there call it FRIED SHRIMP. The crust is hard and crispy. (I used to work in a tempura bar defunct restaurant in Kalihi). I heard it takes 4-6 years to master tempura making in Japan. Therefore I don't want to make tempura but rather eat out whenever I go to a locally owned Japanese eatery. The teriyaki was too sweet for us but edible we were hungry. The rice I believe should not be in the bento box but in a rice bowl if there large size ones no refills or not to me it shows that no refills? There once was a separate rice container to one table or for sinLocal people love their rice therefore it should be more than what's shown.
