    Salmon onigiri

Love coming to this local gem where you can buy all your Japanese or Hawaiian or Asian things needed. If you want to make homemade sushi this is your go to Spot for all your essentials. They do have food to go with like spam masubi with or without egg $2.49/$2.69 they also have onigiri spicy tuna is a favorite even though it's canned tuna. or salmon or other flavors however the ratio to rice and fish which hardly any fish is in there. But for 1.99 can't beat that they do have other options at the counter. Must check out this spot!

Sakura has a great selection of Japanese and Hawaiian groceries. Their fresh tuna is high quality and perfect for poke. They have different varieties of onigiri but make sure to come early because they tend to sell out. My favorites are the salmon and the beef onigiris. What makes Sakura even more awesome is that they have Coolish! Hope they stock more flavors of Coolish in the future. Arigato!

just some of the treats they have! making ramen for dinner!

bao pizza 10/10 bread w chocolate filling 10/10 bread maple 10/10 coolish 10/10 sticky rice (microwaveable) 10/10 black tea 8/10 sooo many more options these just caught my eye !! very organized store ! certain items go out of stock quick so be sure to get here early!!

Sakura is a small Japanese grocery market in the same plaza as Poppy Coffee and right next door to Tiger's Yogurt. My husband and I shopped at this market twice over our recent visit to Stockton. Upon the first visit, we came in on a Wednesday a little after 5 pm. Sadly there was very little freshly made cut sushi rolls available. I saw a sign on the counter that states to go foods and sushi are made daily from 10 am- 2 pm, Monday through Friday and then 9 am -1pm, Saturday. Knowing this information, I told my husband we will have to try again but earlier in the day. We ended up coming the next day, around 11:45 am. There were so many choices of freshly made food items to choose from (which is why it is very important to come early). We purchased spam musubi ($2.79), butter mochi cake ($6.99), onigiri saka mayo (riced ball with cooked salmon and mayonnaise, $1.99), tiny lucky cat ($2.99 prior to tax. My husband bought this thinking I would find it to be cute, which I do, lol). The spam musubi and onigiri were perfect snacks to have on hand during our trip and the butter mochi cake was just so delicious. It reminded me of the mochi cake mix I bought from Trader Joe's that I made. This market also sells other items you would except to find in a Japanese market, that include sashimi, sodas, sauces, instant noodle/ ramen, chips, Pocky, rice, sake, Sanrio toys/ stuffed animals/ tote bags, etc. Employees are very friendly and helpful. Sakura is a hidden gem that you would not expect to find in the town of Stockton. Come check this out this small market, but come early if you want to purchase their premade food items.

Being accustomed to Oto's Marketplace in Sac, I was very curious about this place; I wondered if this place would be a bonus go-to for my Japanese groceries. First thing I noticed upon entering is how small this store is (why didn't you guys tell me??). It's like the size of a mini convenience store in a downtown area. This mart mainly has Japanese food essentials (instant ramen, instant curry blocks, sauces, snacks/candy, etc.). No fresh meat/produce, but there is fresh packaged sashimi. Eh, for what the place has in stock, I'd give it 4 stars. Why the overall 5-star rating though? Extra points for the staff.....some of the most patient and friendliest staff I've encountered at a store. A mom was letting her daughter carry out the cash transaction for their groceries and the interaction between the daughter and the super sweet cashier lady made my heart melt (I'm already melting from the current heat wave and now my heart.....I'm a complete mess!!). Ultimately, Sakura is a good Japanese mini mart for locals, but if you have access to Oto's you might find the selection a bit limiting.

Not huge but enough selection of beer and sake.

Small little Japanese market about the size of a 7-11. I grew up in the Bay Area and even just 30-40 years ago, long before 99 Ranch, H Mart or a Mitsua was around, if one wanted foods from the culture that you were from, you'd have to find a market similar to this. Now I can find an ethnic market just about anywhere. Now despite their small stature, this store can offer just about anything a bigger store like Mitsua can, just in smaller quantities and selections. They've got spices/sauces, Japanese rice, beer and sake, snacks galore, kitchen gadgets and yes, even stuffed plushie animals. Meats seemed frozen and limited but they do have a fresh fish counter where you can get sushi grade fish or prepared sushi as it seemed. Now it ain't gonna be restaurant sushi or anything, think grocery store sushi. I was at the bakery next door so I just popped in to take a peek. I didn't really need anything but I did pick up just a few things as to support them whilst I was passing through. Picked up some spicy rice crackers which I love to make my own snack mixes for work; a bottle of sake, mostly for cooking; and I tried an octopus salad from their deli case. The salad was very thin sliced octopus in a sweet vinaigrette. A little too sweet for me, but still not bad. Mostly auntie looking ladies handling the front/deli counter. Everything about my experience here was just so small town, even though Stockton really isn't a small town. To the residents of this town, you've got a nice asset here in your back yard, go take advantage.

    Authentic Japanese bread.

Came here before many times but finally have time to give this place a review it deserves. Sakura feels like you're in a Japanese market, which is pretty awesome and something we need more in California. In general, the female cashiers there are friendly and welcoming. They always great us. The shop is kept clean and organized. They have so many things you just can't find in a regular market or gas station. Their Ramen selection has authentic japanese style ramen. They have freshly made onigiri and other japanese style lunches made daily. They usually completely sell out before 2 pm, so we go there before then. Their sashimi cuts are perfect for when we make our own sushi at home. You know the seafood is good when you can just bite into it right of the bat . The music they play is nice and relaxing. Overall, this place is a 5 stars for me, and I highly recommend it for japanese culture lovers.

The prices are very reasonable and definitely, if you're craving some sashimi, buy the fish here and slice it up at home!
