Sushi is fine, not amazing, not awful. The restaurant is located in a center that looks like industrial offices. Was tricky to find at night, the parking lot is huge. We finally saw the lights from the establishment, but no signage was visible. They have all the rolls and combos you would expect. Don't remember the name of the sushi rolls, did get hamachi, got a roll that has eel and avocado and a couple of big rolls. The tea was delicious and soothing. read more

Best Sushi around! The prices are fair and the quality is wonderful. It's hidden away at the bottom of a business building but signs help point the way. I love the salmon nigiri! The miso soup is also rich and packed with seaweed, tofu, and green onions. This is truly a hidden gem. read more

I'm at a loss to digest negative reviews, or even less-than-stellar reviews, of Sakura Sushi. I work in the building next door, and try to make it here once a month when I can. And the sushi is absolutely ethereal. The rolls are amazing, but the board specials simply transcend what you can find at most sushi restaurants. The toros are across-the-board melt-in-your-mouth and delicately flavored. I'm getting black snapper as we speak. I've rarely not had sushi, but can speak to the freshness and flavors that pop even within the oshitashi and seaweed salad dishes. The service can get a bit backed up in terms of delivery when there is a crowd, but the servers are incredibly warm, knowledgable about the dishes and can always offer up good options depending on your preferences and mood. The waitstaff is always "on it," however - so you shouldn't be neglected. Just because I am a semi-regular here doesn't mean I get preferential treatment; the servers are universally kind, responsive and diligent. I believe a previous incarnation of this restaurant wasn't great, and maybe much worse than not great. What's here now, at Sakura, possibly runs second to only Sushi Ran, when it comes to quality, in Marin. It's my favorite sushi restaurant, and I'm thrilled to have it located right next to my office. read more

We've been ordering from here every week for the last few months. Usually we love it as its one of the few places with vegetarian sushi options. This last order, something was VERY wrong. Try the appetizer a Spoonful of Happiness! It is an extravagant two spoonfuls of kaki (oyster), uni, tobiko and uzura no tamago (fresh quail egg)! Miso shiru (miso soup) is also nice, shiromiso (white miso) instead of the akamiso (red miso) or awasemiso (mixed miso) one usually gets in America, and enoki mushrooms. As a sushi loving group, we thought we would try a different restaurant from our normal spots. This place is cute and we really looked forward to our dinner. It took 15 minutes for the waitress to come for drink orders, and a half hour for the food to show up. ( well, 2 of the 3 ordered rolls anyway) the 3rd roll and a nigiri item were forgotten and had to be re-ordered, at which point we ordered an extra roll. The missing roll showed up about 15 minutes later, and the last roll about 10 minutes after that. The food was ok. We then had to flag down someone for our check. We paid, no offer of apology, or anything to make up for the wait or missing/ forgotten food. Guess the search goes on for a new fave. read more

We really liked this spot! We moved in the area from the city about a year ago and we haven't really found our new neighborhood sushi spot until now! It's very casual, the service is amazing and they make you feel like you are family. They have great omakaze and the pricing is very decent. It felt a little weird to us at first that is was in the middle of an 80's office building but I think it added to the charm of it for us in the end. Will be back!!! read more

The only reason that I came here was for the spoonful of happiness. It consists of oyster, uni, tobiko, quail egg, and green onions. I didn't know of a place in the city, so when I saw that this place had it, I decided to give it a try when I have decided to stay in Novato for a couple days. It looks better than it looks, and one of them had a bad oyster. For 2 spoons, $13.95. I cannot justify the price for it. It was good, but not mind-blowing. I have also ordered the sushi lunch combo, which came with a California roll and 6 piece nigiri (sake, hamachi, tuna, ebi, and I don't know what the other fishes were). I knew when I looked at it that the fishes were not good quality. It was bad, but the fish to rice ratio was good. The miso soup came with enoki and they ask you if you want it. The salad that came with it was ok, I only had a couple bites. Overall, the food is not amazing. I was more disappointed in the spoonful of happiness because that's the only reason that I came to Sakura. The quality of the fishes was bad. The service was good though and the food came out within 7-8 minutes. But other than that, I would go elsewhere. read more

This place is amazing. A hidden gem in Marin. Incredibly fresh fish. I've been in awe the two times we've come here. I would agree with others here that the only complaint is service when they're extremely busy. The wait staff seem easily overwhelmed on a busy Friday or Saturday night. Seems they could put delivery on hold if the restaurant is that packed - customers sitting in front of you deserve that attention. They should just get a reservation system like everyone else. So here's the good: Sakura Sushi has reasonably priced dishes, which beat the prices of nearby San Rafael. The quality of the sushi is very good, and it is created very promptly by the friendly sushi chef behind the counter of the central sushi bar. Now, some of the not-so-good. The front of house just needs to match the quality of the back of the house. I could tell that the staff still seem very new to the actualities of running a restaurant... for instance, there were moments of mix-ups, in which the following happened: - Our first server tried to take duplicate dinner orders from my brother immediately after she spoke to him about ordering food - A different server tried to deliver another table's sushi order to us - Our server accidentally gave a Sapporo to my underage brother (who does look much older than his years) instead of my other, older brother To some, this can be seen as generous behavior (hooray for beer and food). I can smile about the little mistakes, because it did not upset anybody. Though for other patrons who may be more sensitive to errors, I felt the need to bring those up in this review. However, here's the real reason I won't be willing to return soon: ALL the water glasses tasted as if they were dunked in the aquarium water. For someone who enjoys the taste of raw fish, it was quite unpleasant to get that fishy taste in a glass of water before the sushi is ordered. read more

2 Asian patrons walk in on a night where only 6 other diners are present. The waitress direct us to a table for two, but we make our way over to a table with 4 chairs and request to sit there thinking it wouldn't be a problem. Nope! The sushi chef informs us that those tables are for parties of 3 or more so we proceed back to the other table, a bit stunned. As we look around, we noticed that the other two occupied tables have no more than 2 customers so we figured that's just the way they like to keep it. Shortly after, a Caucasian couple enter and seat themselves at the same table we had requested before. Instead of giving them the same shpeal, the waitress gave them menus and carried on. So here we're left to wonder what the possible explanation could be, but I think it's rather simple: 2 Asian customers and 2 Caucasian customers both wanting a bigger table - at a restaurant that's practically empty - yet the Asians get turned down. I rarely make things about race, but that's exactly how we felt. Sakura is not very kind to its own kind... As for the food, well...it's hard to have an appetite when you've just been discriminated against. Honestly, the food isn't bad and my previous visits here have never made me feel slightly inferior, but all it takes is just one bad experience. read more

I've been coming here every week since The beginning of 2016. I would say this is my favorite place in Marin for sushi. Their fish is always so fresh and delicious. Every single bite melts in your mouth. Michael, the owner/sushi chef is always so nice and welcoming to his customers. He always has great recommendations on what to get. The servers are here are also super welcoming. My favorite fish is their black snapper, but I always get their chirashi bowls and it is quite filling. If you like raw fish then definitely come here. I just spent $50 and left starving and unsatisfied. I disregarded all of the previous bad reviews this place got because I really wanted to like this place. It is super close to my house, has parking and delivers. Unfortunately, as usual, yelp was right. The food was expensive and mediocre. Hair was in my sushi roll. I wanted you to see that as the first word in my review because it's not the first review that mentions hair in food at this place. When my wife and I both noticed the hair at the same time we called over the waitress who acknowledge it was hair and took the dish back. She asked if I wanted that roll (California roll for those who care), I said yes since I didn't want to eat the hair... There was no apology at the time of her returning and then we asked for the bill. I'm not trying to sound like a snob or jerk but I believe when there is hair in food, that dish should be free. Now some of you are thinking "she gave you a new roll", which to be clear I got a combo plate with sushi and the California roll. Only the California roll was replaced. Decided to give this place a try last night and WOW I was very surprised. Everything was just perfect. We ordered a lot of different things just to try out the menu: soft fried crab, poke salad, butter fish, blue toro, unagi, and spicy scallop nigiri, spoonful of happiness (a spoon of uni, oyster, tobiko, and egg. Delicious!!), salmon skin roll, ankimo (best I've EVER had), hamachi carpaccio, and finished with green tea cheesecake and they served it with sesame ice cream, which was on the house. Everything from start to finish was just amazing. The chef timed everything perfectly so that the next dish came out right when we finished our plates. The food and service reminded me of a high end sushi restaurant in sf but the price is not bad at all, especially for how much food we ordered. Super friendly staff! Yeah, a good sushi place around my office! I'm really excited about this place. The sushi was fresh and price nicely. It's located in the same complex as the movie theater, so there's tons of parking. And the place is actually nicely decorated and has a nice serene ambiance. The food came quickly and the service was friendly. I had to take a star off because we ordered the banana tempura dessert which was a small, soggy disappointing mess. Perhaps the sushi is good here, the photos from other Yelpers certainly look great, which is why we ate here. However, the cooked food off the menu? Horrible. Not just bad - but really horrible. Two of our party had the Teriyaki Salmon, I had the Teriyaki Steak. The salmon showed up, very small pieces, overcooked, with barely any sauce on it. Even though it was overcooked, the skin was completely soggy. Both pieces were given the same bad treatment. My steak was marginally better looking, but also VERY tough and gristly, with barely enough sauce. My rice was OK, but my friend's was reported to be "crunchy" Won't be eating here again, even to try the sushi :( read more

Great local sushi place!!! If you are interested in the environment, this is a great place. Not only is the sushi is very fresh, there are lots of great rolls to choose from, but they are also very accommodating. You don't have to use styrofoam or plastic. You can bring your own container and they will use that. They were so nice that they even apologized for having to use a single container for our Miso soup because we didn't have a sealed one for them. This is and will continue to be our primary sushi place. We used to go to sushiholics which is good, but this is as good, closer and best of all, local! read more

The decore is nice and interesting and the mirrors masked the rather small location. They had only two waitresses and made us wait a bit for service, but the wait wasn't bad and well worth it. This is the best sushi I had for a while. The prices are fair and a bit better than downtown San Rafael for better food at this place. This morning woke up thinking about the food last night and my companion had the same thoughts! If you are looking for good sushi and plenty of parking.
