I am not sure why yelp removed my original review. They say I asked a question and should write a review but I asked no questions. No sense to that and find it inexplicable. This restaurant gave us such bad service it was impossible not to write a review of our experience. I will not repeat it since yelp decided it should be removed. Love the sushi but be prepared to wait! The restaurant is right by my work so it was easy to pop in. High quality sushi and so many choices but if you go on a Friday or Saturday night it will be crowded. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of wait staff which negatively impacts the quality of service. Maybe hire a few more sushi chefs and staff? The sushi definitely gets high marks in my book! The quality of the sushi is seriously going down , they look saggy and taste all the same blandness. Ordered for pick up, available in 50 mins , I gave them one hour. Waited another 20 minutes in line. Once I was about to pay , after I paid they said it will take another 15 minutes. What a waste of time I realized everybody who had ordered food was just waiting and waiting. And the restaurant did not look that busy inside with only a few tables occupied. Ordered from DoorDash and I can't believe the terrible quality and mistakes that were made with my order. There was a missing roll, which was not too big of a deal because they were able to credit us for it. The real problem was with my miso soup. It had a piece of hard, dirty plastic inside of it. Not sure how it got there. But seemed to have been heated and left in my soup. Inedible. Unfortunately the food we did get and were able to eat, was pretty flavorless and disappointing. Small, friendly, clean, eclectic, off the beaten path -- this has to be one of the best sushi spots in Marin. It is unassumingly located in a business park across the parking lot from the Smith Ranch theaters. It is fairly small inside and can get quite busy but the fish is fresh and the sushi chef is enthusiastic and great at entertaining. I have yet to be disappointed by the sushi. When it is crowded services can be quite slow especially if there is a large party but it is worth the patience. The prices are not high, the fish is fresh and the cuts are generous. All the food is good, impeccable. Disappointed that the this was the second time I wanted oysters and they did not have them. I specifically selected this place for that. Also, they didn't have Uni and I was looking forward to that as well. Worse ever service. Totally inattentive server. We could never catch her eye to order more. Never once did she check on us - ever. We wanted to order an extra item ... nothing ... she kept on disappearing. She took orders from tables 5 feet away and not once quickly scan the room to see if anyone needed anything. This was the behavior all night. We didn't get more water. We started off with appetizers and then waited and waited and waited for the server to notice we wanted more. Even the sushi preparer person saw that we wanted something glancing at us a few times and never once alerted the server ... not once. I suppose it was not his job. Once we finally got the servers attention she thought that the one order of appetizers etc was it and expressed shock that we were ready to order many more items for the rest of the course. This pretty much ruined the experience. We were on the edge of our seat hoping to order more if could just catch her eye. I think the very poor service indicates a drop in standards for this place. I may as well have been ordering fast food. Order, pay, eat, leave. Like a cattle call. Very utilitarian ambience. Lots of kids and several folks showing up in their sweats to pick up takeout. The prices were $$, but the service did not match that. Why did I add the standard tip? Why? I have been going here for several years and won't return. At Shiro Kuma Sushi on 4th St., they do the service right that makes for a comfortable, attentive dining experience. Tasty, high quality fresh food though. read more

It was super busy and the wait was long.... but the food was hot and fresh as always and now my sinister plan to get another person hooked worked! Sakura sushi is my new go-to sushi place in Marin. Having recently moved from SF, I was afraid that I'd have difficulty finding a good sushi place that didn't involve a bridge toll. Sakura sushi definitely fits the bill. The service is fantastic and whileIm not a huge fan of rolls, the few I've tried were good. *This review is for their online ordering system. I cancelled my order due to the long wait. I was very much looking forward to eating sushi on a Saturday night during this shelter-in-place. I decided to order for pick-up since I did not want to risk my food sitting around for a long time. The online menu has some descriptions of each dish. More descriptions could be helpful. The ordering is pretty straightforward. You can select to pay by cash or card. However, you are unable to pay online. If you have to do both when you get there, the option should not even be there. My main criticism is around the pick-up time request function. You can select when you would like to pick up (up to hours ahead). I was pretty hungry so I selected "as soon as possible" and the website provided an estimated wait time (20 minutes). We drove there. I received a text message that my order was confirmed. I saw two people ahead of me waiting for their order. I asked how long of a wait it would be. The staff woman responded that she had just received the order and it would be a 30-minute wait, which was fair. After 30 minutes of waiting in the parking lot, I am told that it would be an additional 25-minute wait. This meant that since I ordered, it was a total 65-70 minute wait. We decided to cancel our order altogether. Overall, their online ordering system needs to change to reflect more accurate wait times and staff need to be honest about the actual wait (not just tell me an estimate that they think will make me happy). read more

wow! just re-located to Marin County for work, and first-timer to this sushi place. after reading the reviews, I thought it was going to be hard to find! the sign was on the driveway pointing to where it was at, and its next to an office building. at first I thought the negi-roll was kinda odd, but it was actually different than the other negi-rolls I've had from other places. it was really delicious. I also tried a different roll from my go to negi or teka rolls, and tried the shrimp festival . Topped with real shrimp and tempura, this one was pretty good too. I liked that they gave low sodium soy sauce, its just as more guilt-free than enjoying this meal! AND I also like that its a few minutes walking distance from my new work! read more

This place was an excellent find for lunch. It's very close to my office and wasn't too crowded for lunch right at noon. It's definitely a 2-3$ place, but the food was delicious. I ordered the two item bento box with teriyaki chicken and the mixed tempura. The teriyaki was hot and flavorful. The tempura batter was light and non-greasy with a nice mix of veggies and one shrimp. I also ordered the honey walnut shrimp roll. This is one of my favorite "Asian" dishes but it's easy to get wrong and I'd never seen it in a sushi roll before. It was delicious. There was a slight mix up where the waitress thought the red sauce on top was a chili sauce and I had to send it back for one without as I can't have chilies and didn't know it came that way. Turns out it was RASPBERRY SAUCE! Everyone was a good sport about the whole thing and they weren't going to charge me for the second one. The fish slices in my chirashi were so thin. I was also disappointed by the portion of their katsu. It seemed more like a supplement dish than an entrée. This is a real hidden gem. I discovered it when I was going to the Smith Ranch Road movie theaters, just across the parking lot. It's in an office building so they get a lot of business at lunch, and I can see why. They also have well-priced lunch specials. After a short while we were the only ones enjoying the outside patio, but we were not neglected (which I have experienced at other resturants being the only one outside) had even two servers who made sure we were comfortable throughout out dinner! I have been a bay area resident for many years and this is probably the best place that I come back to constantly. The restaurant is family owned and the owner makes sure the sushi is always fresh. I usually order the triple toro roll, salmon toro nigiri, bluefin toro nigiri, lion king, and kamachi kama. They have a special menu where if you ask for toro (aka the belly of the fish), they will usually have it. The location is rather odd, but the sushi more than makes up for it. Fish portions are generous, the rolls are creative, the prices are standard and the restaurant is not noisy (feels calm not chaotic). I particularly love love love the double hamachi roll... so good!
