I live in Kansas and there are 2 places where I live like this and we go there every week religiously because the food and sushi is so fantastic. We're here visiting in Maryland and needed our weekly sushi kick so we tried this place and we made a terrible mistake. First it was too expensive. If the food was wonderful I wouldn't mind paying 127 dollars but this was the opposite. The sushi was mediocre. Could've gone to a Chinese buffet and got the same thing. The spider roll had little flavor and the crab was chewy like it was old. The unagi was alright but not the best, the dynamite and Philadelphia roll were average. I don't mind paying alot for sushi if it makes my mouth water but this was just dissapointing. Grrrr. The steak and shrimp was the worst I've ever had. Rice had no flavor and was too mushy...probably over cooked, the steak was dry, the shrimp was the only thing I could stomach. The teriaki sauce was awful. The only good thing about this place was that it made me realize how great the places I go to in Kansas really are. read more

I wish I could actually experience this restaurant. I have a gluten allergy and I was told I would able to eat here and that they would cook my food in the back. I brought my daughter for her birthday on recommendations considering we just moved to the area. The atmosphere and service are great. The food was not good....the only thing that was was the miso soup. My lettuce in my salad was brown, the teriyaki salmon I had tasted like it had started to turn and had not even a hint of teriyaki flavor while the fried rice and vegetables tasted heavily of only soy sauce. The iced tea wasn't even drinkable. I expected a lot more. Especially for the amount of money I paid. I definitely will not be back. read more

The sushi was terrible. The scallops were good and sweet, but they put soooo much butter and who knows what kind of cheap oils they use...its a lot though. The miso soup was good. All the good cooked on the grill would have been much better if it didn't have so much oil and butter. They definitely get an 0 rating for cleanliness. Where can you go to get flavorful soup? Where can you go to get juicy steak? Where can you go to get shrimp? It is a steakhouse? No, it's not a steakhouse, it's...Sakura! In my opinion, Sakura is the best place to go and get soup because it is very flavorful. It is not expensive and it's a good place to go with a family. I like the fire. Sakura is the best option. Some may argue that there are better restaurants for steak, for other restaurants may have tastier steak and larger restaurants. Although, the steakhouse may be a larger restaurant and have tastier steak, I still contend Sakura is superior. You should go to Sakura because first they are not expensive. Second, it's a good place to go with a family. In summary, Sakura is a restaurant I highly recommend. In my opinion, it's the best restaurant for soup. If you want to go to a place where you get juicy and flavorful food, then Sakura is the place to go. You should go because they have flavorful soups with mushrooms and spring onions. My boyfriend and I have frequented this establishment many times, the only good thing they have going for them is the yum yum sauce. The staff and waiters are incredibly cold and rude, takes 30 minutes to receive white rice with my order every time. Not to mention you're surrounded by people you don't know and the tables are crowded. It's an uncomfortable place. read more

I really do not recommend this slop house to anyone. First the service was horrible, no type of customer friendly waitress. The female cook had a hard time keeping the orders straight and if your child wants the onion soup they won't get any only the salad. I have gone to this place several times over a 2 year period and it seems to go down further each time I have entered. The carpet looks dirty, it has no atmosphere at all, you can sit in a warehouse and have the same look and style. The cook said very little and was not pleasant at all. I had ordered lobster, so she cuts mine up along with another guest and starts cooking it. When the lobster was finished she divides the lobster up equally and gives the other guest his portion, then she hands me mine but two pieces fall off of the spatula so she then gives the other guest the pieces that fell off which means I was shorted some lobster which I paid for. I brought her attention to the matter but it seemed as if she wanted to argue, so not to spoil others night I put a big ZERO for the tip. I will never go back again it's horrible. Cant i just get to write ONE favorable review nowadays???? Sakura.... again...hadn't been in years..took my oldest son and his wife, and my youngest son. Both boys home from the military. First thing i noticed walking in...no patrons...where were they? Huge restaurant...full of tables...no people..bad sign..turn tail and run if you EVER see this at a restaurant. But we took a deep breath and sat down...no others in site..the four of us waited for more people to sit at our table so we could eat. Finally three other people came and sat at our table, so there were 7 people at a table capable of holding 12, and no one else in site. Why? Well the number one reason i believe is complete lack of atmosphere...instead of upbeat Japanese music to set the mood, we had to listen to top 40????? Do i want to hear Adeles "Someone Like You" while i am trying to have a fun night out with my children i never get to see?? What the Heck?? Then, looking up i noticed that the ceiling tiles were stained with big round rust spots??? We held our breath and hoped for the best. Our chef was very nice, fun and amusing..the food ok, not great.. as well..but the lack of atmosphere definitely ruined the experience. With so many places to chose in Waldorf, Sakura CEO's need to take a look at this place and make big changes..Oh the money they are missing out on! Uggh the thought of this place makes me sick it's very low budget ,they serve their customers sink water for one with no bottled waters in sight,there was food on the ground,sticky table,the place looked old and smelled like a hotel.The first thing i said to my boyfriend was i know this place has roaches C,the food wasn't horrible it was decent but I'm now walking around with a stomach ache!! 5ish years ago this restaurant had a lot going for it. The past two years the food has continuously declined. We used to love eating dinner here but no more. There fried rice is not even decent anymore. The last two times we visited we both ended up with what we think was food poisoning. This place is horrible. The sushi is tasteless and tough (if you happen to go there when Sang is working, then you might get good sushi, but if he is not there...forget it). The miso soup is sour. The ginger salad is bitter. Don't even try to get it as a take out order...the lady at the front will NOT get your order right...or if you get it as take out, make sure you check your order to make sure its right. What is so sad is the lady that works at their front desk (taking orders/hostess) always eats at Kodori (Sakura's competitor in Waldorf)...this should tell you a lot. read more

It was pretty good. Sat at a regular table, not the hibachi. Ordered the NY strip entree. The soup appetizer had good flavor but was not hot. It was just slightly warm. That made me nervous, that they keep the soup at a low temp like that. The ginger dressing on the salad had good flavor. My steak, it was a bit tough, chewy. Not overcooked, but more about how the meat had been cut. The vegetables were fine. Slightly over cooked maybe, but not bad. The fried rice though, was really really good. Better than anything else I got. The tables were all sticky though, like the finish was permanently ruined, so just had a nasty tacky surface. Waitress was fine. I did see a man go up to the bar and tell the bartender that he'd noticed his bottle of beer tasted off, then noticed that it was actually expired. She didn't treat him as if this was a serious mistake. She just took the bottle, had to actually look through several bottles to find one that was not expired and the vibe of annoyance she was giving off actually caused the customer to apologize to her, like he was the one causing an inconvenience. Maryland, the place where customers apologize to staff for expecting good service or food. This city and the surrounding area could use some training on professionalism and customer service. It's so bad here that when I'm actually treated as I should be, I'm blown away. read more

We first tried this restaurant about a year ago. Our first experience was of food so salty we couldn't eat it and roaches crawling the wall beside us. We decided to try again recently and it again was an awful experience. The hibachi chef made fun on my daughter when she told him how she wanted her steak prepared, he wasn't funny, in fact it made me angry. Then when food was being plates others who obviously were regular customers were given twice the amounts of rice, vegetables, etc. than we were given. The part that threw it over the top was when the person next to me was given some of the chicken which she didn't order. She even told the chef she didn't order it and he laughed and gave it to her anyway. Those of us at the counter who ordered chicken paid for that chicken. I sent a message about our experience to the corporate office and was never given a reply of any kind. Never again will this chain get our business, nor will they ever be recommended to anyone by us. I would be embarrassed to tell anyone to try this place. They should be closed because there is far better out there. read more

I love this place. The staff is nice, the food is YUMMY and watching your food get cooked in front of you is very entertaining. I only give it 4 stars because I don't really like their sushi. I have had better. Just stick to the regular menu and go to some place like Wasabi for sushi. read more

We were seated promptly. It wasn't busy. I immediately noticed the place needed cleaning. Our server Keanu was very polite and on time. As we sat my feet stuck to the tile floor by the grill. I had the rainbow salmon roll. It was ruined by the orange thousand island sauce spread inside the roll. My soup was delicious but there was way too much ginger dressing on the salad which made it watery. Our cook was very dry and boring, not entertaining at all. I ordered mushrooms for appetizer and got shrimp instead. The liver that someone else ordered touched our food and she used the same spatula to flip our shrimp and steak. Everything was salty from the soy sauce sprayed on everything she cooked. Except for the steak which was bland. When I reached for salt, the shaker was sticky and the salt wouldn't come out at all. Our cook smeared globs of the orange thousand island sludge into the fried rice. And the clumps of seasoned butter, not even covered when it came out was clumped on all the food as well. I went to the bathroom and the toilet seat was coming off and floors were sticky. The bus boy came out during our meal constanly cleaning with dirty stained shirt. If we are going to pay over 100 dollars for 3 ppl...it should have at least been clean and tasty. Truthfully the only thing good about this place was our server Keanu. read more

I really like Sakura and I'll go to another one but not this one. I've never had an issue until lately. I've been going for years every now and then, maybe 2-3 times a year for gatherings or birthdays dinners. It was always a fun, quick environment to go to. But the last 2 times ...it's changed a lot. The first visit a small group of 3 others and I went for a quick lunch meal. We were literally the only people there and a woman came up to us and kindly asked to start up with drinks ....we said okay. But she quickly let us know they "had a lot of to-go orders and it would be a while". We inquired about the amount of time we would have to wait because we only had 30 minutes to spare and she walked off with an attitude like we were an inconvenience to her precious time. She comes back and says "25-30 minutes" until we get our food. We said "Thank you but we'll go somewhere quicker". Instead of saying sorry about that or anything she just snatched the menus up and walks away lmao but that's fine we still ate and ended up happy. The second visit....I got steak and chicken combo with fried rice and mushrooms as a salad. Everything was fine. My order was ready when I got there, they had the to-go wrapped up with napkins and silverware...cool! But, I get home and there's literally just one side of steak and one side is rice....where's the rest right? So I called. They said they could credit me for my next meal or cook the chicken and I can pick it up ......no. Wasn't happening. I let her know I would like a new meal prepared because I wasn't putting cold food with hot food because I had to wait for chicken that I ordered an hour ago. So she said okay no problem but I had to bring the first order back. Perfectly fine! I took it back and she showed whoever runs that place how there was a whole meat missing lmao she came back and said I could keep both and she apologized a lot (she was very sweet the entire time). But of course I was keeping at-least a whole new meal or getting my money back! Maybe "management" needs a little more training. Just a thought ;) read more

WATCH YOUR RECEIPTS.....It appears that Sakura (Waldorf, Md) is adding unauthorized tip charges in excess of the 18% gratuity. We received our bill with the gratuity included due to the size of our party therefore we did not include an additional tip once the final receipt was signed and returned to the hostess. I went one step further and lined through the tip line on the receipt and wrote in the exact total that was already on the preprinted receipt (including the 18%) however............ I checked my account the next day to discover that an additional 15% was added to my total bill WHICH I DID NOT AUTHORIZE. The manager Lucia requested that I fax a copy of my receipt and she would review the charges and make the necessary corrections. She continued to explain all of the possibilites that could have caused this error. so I had to interupt her and tell her that this WAS NO MISTAKE. IT WAS INTENTIONAL!! And to make matters worse, the food was "average" and the chef was mediocre. She attempted to do tricks with cracked eggs and failed at every attempt and to make matters worse, she couldn't keep the food on the grill, rice and veggies were flying everywhere with a few grains landing on my friends sweater.. We've been going to Sakura for years as a family to eat Sushi. The last few times I've noticed a few things about the restaurant that have really turned me off and last night, I decided that we won't be back. The floor in the sushi bar is NASTY, first my feet slid then once I finally sat down, the soles of my shoes were sticking to the floor. The tables are GROSS! Sticky and honestly feel like you could take an inch off of grime if someone just bothered to scrub them down. It's time for them to shut this place down and scrub it from top to bottom. First of all I'm not the type of person who would leave reviews or complain about restaurants or any place in particular. But this is THE WORST experience I ever had in a restaurant. I'm shocked that this place is still open.. I had a party of 12 people reserved to this place thinking it'll be a good experience for my employees who have never been to Sakura. However when I got there, the waitress at the front told me that we cannot be seated until everyone got there. She refused to let us be seated even when I asked if they can just leave extra seats for the employees who might come later. After deciding there was only party of 9 she glared at us with annoyance and just pointed to us where to sit... Despite the extremely rude attitude I received at the front I still wanted to enjoy a good time with my employees. We were seated with three other people who we did not know, that kept harassing my employees... We order drinks after ten minutes of just waiting at the table, then once we ordered our drinks it was literally twenty minutes of waiting. At this point I was fed up and very disappointed, and even embarrassed that I recommended this place for my employees. While the drinks still did not come out yet, we just decided to go to a different restaurant that didn't treat us like trash. this is the worst japanese steakhouse in southern maryland. the service is horrible. my husband and i went there to eat tonight and as soon as we walked in the door we weren't even greeted by the hostess. all of the workers stand there as if you are an alien, they were all laughing and joking around amongst themselves. the food wasn't up to par. the shrimp are so small and the food was very greasy. our waitress was not friendly at all she never even asked us how our food was or if we needed anything else. once finished with dinner we went back up to the front desk to pay for our meal since our waitress was nowhere in sight. we stood at the counter for 5 minutes waiting to be acknowledged by the host once again we were ignored while she was laughing and joking with other workers. my husband got so angry he just slammed the check with cash payment on the counter right in front of her and we walked out. we will never eat at this restaurant again! horrible, horrible place!!!!! read more
