We have gone here for both a standard lunch (not the hibachi grill) and fancier dinner at the grill and both were awesome. I don't eat sushi, but my husband says that all of the rolls he has ordered have been really fresh and delicious. I have gotten a few different chicken dishes, along with gyoza and appetizers and they were great. In all honesty though, the best thing here is the fried rice on the grill-it's unbelievable and if I could order just that I would. Today I had my very first experience to try teppanyaki, I was with my sister who had recommended this place since she has tried it before. The ambience was nice and I would say great for dates/families. We ordered the steak and shrimp combo, spider man roll, and agedashi tofu. We got the agedashi tofu first and our spider man roll. I haven't had a bad experience with agedashi, so thank you for keeping up that streak. However, I wasn't a fan of the spider man roll, it just didn't have the taste I was expecting, it was heavy and mushy, falls apart when I try to pick it up. My sister said she ordered it before and also said she recalled it tasting better. We only had one piece each and decided to just keep it to the side. As the hibachi chef arrived, during the cooking session, I can tell he was getting tired from his day. He didn't interact with us, he simply just did his job, cleaned his station, and left. Alright, cooking over a hot grill all day with a smile can be hard, I get it. The food was good, the steak and shrimp were both moist, rich in flavor. So no problems with that. However, I noticed that throughout our meal, our server didn't check up on us at all. Didn't come around to ask how was our meal. Didn't ask if we needed anything. I had to flag down the other staff for a pair of chopsticks. It was not until the end of our meal, she asked if we enjoyed the show? We said yeah, then I told her about the spider man roll, I thought it's similar to just spider but she tells me it's different, but still, I am not a fan. I told her I'm sorry I didn't like it, she says it's fine and she will ask the manager about it. Instead, she comes back with our tab, giving us no eye contact and sets it on the table. I noticed that the roll was still on the bill. Okay??? How fucking awkward. I work in customer service as a server and whenever management denies service requests, we would always give them an explanation why we can or cannot accept their demands. I would have understood whatever their policies are... but she just came back with NOTHING TO SAY. I know how tedious the job can be so I am usually generous with tip but this time, I gave zero. Came here for my graduation lunch and it was good, but I don't think I will come back here. My family and I all ordered from the hibachi lunch special. This was my first time doing a hibachi-styled meal, and I do enjoy the theatrical aspect of it. It was fun to watch the cook make our food right in front of us. He even flung small pieces of zucchini at us so that we could try to catch it into our mouths. I failed terribly at this but it was fun! When we arrived, it wasn't busy at all; maybe four other tables were being served, but most had their food already. My boyfriend was still on the way, so we decided to order some edamame first since we were all pretty hungry. It took way too long for the edamame to come out, maybe 10-15 minutes had passed until our server finally brought it to us. This was a bit annoying, but in the end I was glad they didn't outright forget to bring it to us. I had ordered the chicken, which comes with a soup and salad as appetizers and fried rice and vegetables as a side. Watching the chef cook, I was shocked at the amount of soy sauce they put on the fried rice. He was literally drenching it in soy sauce, so I definitely became concerned with how salty the meal would be (I normally don't cook with salt or eat many salty things in general). Not only did they drench the fried rice in soy sauce, but every other element in the dish was also flavored with soy sauce. My worries were soon confirmed after the meal was finished cooking: it was wayyyy too salty. Even my boyfriend felt that it was too much. I wish they would ask whether we wanted more soy sauce or not during the cooking process. The chicken was as good as chicken could be but it was not dry, which was nice. The fried rice, again, was too salty for my liking and was a little soggy to me. Overall, the meal was mediocre; nothing special or amazingly tasty. The theatrics were entertaining to watch, but I wouldn't come back just for that. We have eaten here a couple of times, its a bit expensive and the food is just so-so. Your paying more for the hibachi experience more than anything, it's a fun date night or birthday group dinner place. I highly suggest adding bacon to the fried rice and stay away from the calamari, it's way to chewy and fishy. It can be very crowded on the weekends, so definitely make a reservation and during the summer months its a hot steamy mess inside of the restaurant. One last note, the salad you get with the Teppanyaki experience is notoriously swimming in salad dressing, ask for light dressing and it also I imagine helps keep their food costs down, yiiiikes! read more

I was visiting a friend and we were craving Japanese food. This place is located across the 711. We came here for sashimi and rolls because the craving hit hard. Didn't get to try the hibachi this time. We came around 8pm on a Wednesday but we didn't have to wait. The ambience is nice. It's slightly dim which I prefer so I'm not blinded while looking at the food. When you walk in there is a bar in the middle with TVS. I kept eyeing the hibachi shows haha. The sashimi tasted fresh so I don't have any complaints. We got the Sushi for 2 :). It was plenty for 2 people. We also ordered the king roll. Wow. This is the best sushi I have had in a long time! It's modern, beautiful, and smells nice inside There's plenty of parking They have shumai (they call it gyoza here) The beef and steak were perfect (some places leave a lot of fat and my son will chew and spit it out) I got Alaska and Boston roll and they are my new fave The bento box came with really delicious salad and vegetables (baby corn and broccoli) yumm! I hate it when I feel so strongly about something that I update a really good review and knock it down to one that is not good. I almost chose 1 star for this. I left it at 2 stars because the hibachi aspect of this place was a lot of fun. But this is about the sushi part of their restaurant, which deserves about 1/2 a star. My wife and I brought our 12 year old son to lunch. He loves sushi. We got seated in a long, narrow room during the lunch hour. It was so loud that you really had to speak up in order to be heard on the other side of the table. Not necessarily the restaurant's fault, it's a difficult architectural challenge (but taller backs on the booths sure would help). Just know that the sushi part of the building can be very, very loud. We decided to order the "Sushi for Two," and a California roll for our son. The sushi for two, comes with 2 rolls, and a bunch of nigiri and sashimi. The waitress took our order and asked us if we had any requests about the fish in the sushi for two meal. So we told her what rolls we wanted as part of the meal, and said we would go with chef's choice on the sashimi and nigiri. Soon thereafter two rolls came out. They were very tasty. Although we had to ask for napkins, utensils, wasabi dishes and plates. About 20 minutes later the "sushi for two" comes out - an enormous wooden boat with 2 rolls, sashimi and nigiri. It was then apparent that the waitress had taken an order for sushi for two, then added on 3 more rolls. 5 rolls, and a boat load of sashimi and nigiri is, of course, an absurd order for 2 adults and a child, and that should have been obvious to her. When we pointed out the issue she was good enough to not charge us for the (very inexpensive) California roll, but in the end the restaurant basically charged us for their mistake. (Remember their markup is HUGE, they could easily have fixed the error). OK that was annoying, but then it got more...weird. As we sat boxing up our absurdly excessive quantity of food, one of the other waitresses came in to clear a nearby table. I had noticed on the way in that her short shorts were very short. Awkwardly short. But as she wiped the table behind me I saw my 12 year old and my wife start looking like something was wrong. I turned to look over my shoulder - short shorts was bending over the table and her bare butt was visible. I'm not talking about a little "peek-a-boo" cheek shot, this was practically the full moon. I'm not a prude or anything, but the only raw meat I wanted to see was the fish - and there are certain things the 12 year old boy will never un-see, not to mention the fact that it made the place seem unhygienic. I can make my own food. I go to restaurants because it's nice to get service. This place has terrible service, and the ambiance in the sushi room is awful. It's not worth it. If you do decide to go here, stick to their hibachi room for celebrations. read more

So I'm a pretty loyal customer here and today I decided to take a good friend here for his birthday, being that it's great food and I've heard good things about the Habachi area- I heard wrong. From the onset of the dinner, we were sat in an area that was already reserved for another group so we had to move to another table. Then the waiter forgot about our appetizer we ordered. It took them 30 min just to ask us for our drinks and a whole HOUR to get our food ORDERED! Mind you, the restaurant was not that busy at the time that we came. We have never had a bad experience at Sakura and we go about once a month if not more. We only eat at the hibachi so I can not speak for table service but the hibachi food is delicious and the service is awesome! We love the bacon fried rice. Chef Kenny is our favorite. Literally the worst sushi I have ever had. The albacore was hard and dry, the clam, squid, octopus and tuna were all tasteless and without proper texture. The beer list was weak, and to make things far worse, is that we sat at a teppan table, they didn't cook teppan for us, instead they brought food that was cooked in the back. They then told us that since only 1 person ordered teppan, they don't do it. We literally came for the show, the food was horrendous, legitimately the worst I have ever had the displeasure of forcing down my throat. Came here for a department appreciation lunch and we were the only table in the restaurant the entire lunch time we were there. I guess it's more of a dinner place. I was sad because I had called ahead of time to ask if they used butter or margarine for their cooking since I am allergic to dairy. The person on the phone said margarine so I got excited. When we sat down to order, they told me they use butter =/ So I figured ok, I guess i'll get a bento box. But these wonderful people ended up working some magic for me and was able to cook the meal in the kitchen without the butter! The food was delicious too even though it wasn't cooked in front of me. This place was very disappointing. To start, our server seemed either overworked or just irritated. Which I understand she was busy during dinner rush but her irritation towards us specifically made us feel unwelcome. We noticed she treated bigger groups much more friendly so I'm guessing it's because we weren't a big ticket. Second, the food was not good on the regular dining side. All of it came out luke warm. Everything was extremely bland. Bland to the point I had to send back a dish which I NEVER do. It was a chicken maki appetizer and it tasted like unseasoned boiled chicken wrapping some imitation crab, some watery cheese that fell out anyways, a piece of asparagus and a raw carrot then its deep fried. I love the idea but it tasted terrible. Absolutely no flavor. Even tried dipping it in soy sauce. I had to send it back. The noodles, which came out before the appetizer but we didn't really care, were luke warm, needed soy sauce, and then we had to ask for plates so we didn't have to eat off the center plate together. The sushi was nicely presented but tasted like it sat for a while before we got it or maybe the ingredients weren't fresh. We are sushi lovers and it just was not flavorful sushi. It was weirdly bland like the other food. I will say the Tito's mules we got, (even though I kept trying to order house mules but I don't think she understood me), were strong and tasted absolutely perfect so the bar is doing a great job. After tip and bill it came out to $100 for me and my friend to have dinner. For 3 alcoholic drinks, 1 noodle dish and 3 rolls (I had to remind her to take the bad appetizer off the bill, or it wouldve been even more). Definitely not worth that hefty price. Definitely overpriced for the lack of quality. Definitely won't be coming back. Iv heard good things about the hibachi side of the restaurant so maybe give that a try ? read more
