It was OK. The menu is actually pretty off-putting. It says on the front cover, "None of the entrees come with rice." Well...rice is cheap, but I understand if you need to try to make money off it. Ordered from their website since Door Dash (and the like ) take too much of the purse from the restaurant. Order came fast despite language difficulty ( being half Korean I am usually a pro at broken English) and they not telling me my total, spice level, review, thank you. They just asked my phone number and hung up quickly. Walking in, women (wait staff?) looked overwhelmed in a near empty restaurant. Restaurant customers looked annoyed and as I paid my order it seemed a bit inflated but I shrugged. In the car I noticed that they charged $14 each instead of $13 (ordered 2 beef options dishes ; $12 chicken, $14 shrimp). Went back inside, both seemed annoyed and never apologized and they said website not updated. I said that is not my fault but they put their hands on their hips and said if I wanted to take the food back. Food was delicious, portion were small....$14.00 each for a lunch special. Saladang is one of the few Thai restaurants I go to somewhat regularly. It is difficult to find a good Thai restaurant that is consistent with their dishes and service so I know it's always a safe bet here. They have spacious seating arrangement (if there aren't too many large parties/tables). I recently came here during their lunch hour to order a couple appetizers. I would recommend the pun klib (steamed dumplings with thai chicken and peanuts). It was quite tasty and I would order it again next time I go. I also ordered their salad roll but I was not impressed at all. The only good thing about it was the peanut sauce and their honey mustard sauce. Overall, I enjoy eating here and the prices are decent. The only drawback is their small parking lot and the wait can get pretty long during dinner hours. Saladang is locaed just south of Colorado Blvd and has its own parking lot, which can fill up quickly, but they have additional spots just behind the building. If you're going for dinner I'd recommend making a reservation becuase it's always busy, mostly because the food is so good. ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant is not your typical thai place as it has grey interior with white walls and high ceilings. Is it wrong to anticipate thai relics and colorful decor? The ktichen is visible when you walk in and adds to the overeall open feeling of the restaurant. SERVICE: The service is second to none! We were promptly greeted when we walked in and shown to a table (called ahead for resrvation). The servers are quick to get your drink order and share the specials and give recommendations. I will say, not once as my glass ever gone empty here. I think they have someone dedicated to filling drinks becuase you will never go dry! FOOD: Tom Yum Coconut Soup: Mmm-mmm-mmm! So good! The coconut soup is thicky, creamy, and has the perfect flavor and spice. I personally love that they serve it by the bowl as well as in a pot. Garlic Chicken: It arrived on a bed of shredded lettuce (wasn't sure to eat it or leave it as a garnish) and was piled high and covered in a yummy garlic sauce. The chicken was chopped into small bites, some too small to fork easily, and was very tender. I only wish the dish was spicier. Fried Calamari: The table shared the fried calamair as an appetizer and it came with a tangy light siace for dipping. Each calamair piece was big, breaded evenly and served piping hot. This Thai restaurant is one of the better ones in Pasadena. Ambiance and service is great. The food is pretty good and there are a lot of dishes to choose from including traditional dishes. I love the Pun Klib, Padse yu and stirfry greenbeans in oyster sauce. I come here at least once a week! The only thing i wish is that the food was always as good as it usually is because recently i noticed that once in a while the dish is not as good as it usually is. Maybe a different chef made it or the seasoning wasn't exactly the same. But most of the time it's consistently good. I will definitely keep coming here. read more

Parking is hard to find even if they have a decently sized parking lot. The ambiance of the restaurant is great, it's definitely a more modern feel for a Thai restaurant. They have lunch specials but we opted out and did the ala carte menu. We ended up ordering the laab, sizzling beef, shrimp curry fried rice, and sticky mango rice. The food was good but it wasn't mind blowing, except for the laab. It might be the best laab I've tried so far. The other items were just okay. I think the laab was my favorite thing we ordered followed by the curry fried rice. I definitely would recommend this place to my friends who don't want to treck all the way to Thai town for some yummy Thai food. Don't get me wrong. The concept is wonderful. The hip/industrial space is phenomenal. But I think the food is quite mediocre. I know of smaller, hole-in-the-wall places that has better food. I was attracted to this place immediately after seeing the interior. So here's the hard lesson I learned. Don't judge a book by its cover. I agree with one reviewer who said the food was a little bland. I also agree with another that complained about the service, which I thought was a bit hit-or-miss. For me, though, I won't go so far as to ding them too badly because on some level, I have to admit, I enjoyed the atmosphere and in my heart of hearts, I really tried to love the food. But in the end, reality won, hence, the 'mediocre' verdict. We had the green apple salad which had way too much peanut dressing and too sweet! In fact, even the tom yum soup was too sweet! I think my blood sugar level went up two notches. But more than that, and worse, because it's one of my major pet peeves--the soup was lukewarm! The one star (should be negative) is for customer service I haven't been here in years and thought I try it again. Boy what and awful experience!!! Natalie Te wanted to sit me right by the restroom when I walk in... told her I want to sit at the table but the window away from the restroom. She was rude the whole time when I ask her for napkins, taking orders. When I'm almost done with lunch she came and said rudely you need anything I told her no but she gotta work on customer service skills. She told me the reason she was rude is because I requested to change table from the original table by the restroom that she wanted to sit me. Wow... that's no excuse to be rude. I told her that I'm a paying customer and it's not like she's paying for my lunch...I requested for the manager then she said she's the owner... two minutes later said she's the manager for today... so on top of being rude she claim to be the owner when she's not. Every customer that came in after us she sat them by the window.. not one was sat by the restroom. Food was not that good. My papaya salad was sweet which it shouldn't be. Just had dinner here at Saladang (not Song). Although my palate wasn't cooperative, meaning no appetite lately... I must say that food here is very flavorful! No wonder my Mom recommended it to me so many times, it didn't fail my expectations. I'm only giving 3 1/2 stars because I've had better gourmet Thai food but I would def come back and would recommend to friends. I love the fact that its super accessible on Fair Oaks... the staff could use some smile on their faces though. This spot in Pasadena is perfect for office lunches. I've been here thrice so far with my work colleagues. It looks like a nice sit down place but isn't too expensive. The quality and quantity of food is really good for what you pay. For example the noodles are for $11-12 come in large platter and are very filling. I would recommend then Vietnamese spring rolls (called salad rolls). They come with 3 dipping sauces and are perfect to share. Their lunch specials are correctly portioned and delicious. Within one minute-literally one minute-my chicken curry entree arrived. With no time to enjoy the calamari which was chewy anyway, started for the curry which was preboiled chicken and was sauced with a very lackluster yellow curry and then microwaved. The chicken was also chewy and rubbery from the microwave. This had to be the way it was prepared as it arrived within a mere three minutes of ordering. Nice thai restaurant in Pasadena. It comes in at a decent price point and tastes pretty good. If you go in for lunch, you'll find a really good lunch deal for around $10 (ex. pad thai w/ salad). Today I walked into Saladang to celebrate my friends engagement with a nice dinner. I walked into the restaurant early to get the table setup before my guest arrived. It was Sunday afternoon about 6pm. The place had about 15 tables. Two of which were occupied. I walked over to the host and asked, "Can I sit anywhere?" I had my eye on a nice window seat. She said, "Right this way!" Then preceded to the front of the restaurant. I didn't move and felt a little put off because before I finished my sentence she was directing me forward. She said, "We have a table for 1 over here!" I said, "Ma'am, my friends are coming and...but she interrupted me and said, "This way!" I politely said, "Your being mean!" Then walked out. I took my business to Sushi Roku around the corner. The kicker of the story is that for my college graduation from Art Center College of Design, I took my family and friends of 20 there. I was very impressed by the quality of their food; it was probably one of the best Thai places I've ever enjoyed. What a wonderful night at Saladang! We celebrated Mother's Day and my nephews birthdays. There were 14 of us with a pre arranged menu I set up. I don't quite understand any negative reviews on the food quality. Literally everything was delicious!! We had the chicken sates, Tom yum and Kha soups, Red Curry, papaya salads, spicy basil eggplants with chicken, pad Thai, pad see ew and mango/sticky rice. We enjoyed every dish, especially the Red Curry that every one raved about afterwards. Also, the service was on point, from the manger, Bill's helpfulness to our main server, Phoebe. Phoebe was so great with having the food come out at different points in the evening and was so patient and sweet with everyone's needs; ie chopsticks, water refills, chili condiments, extra to-go boxes, etc. Such a delicious, memorable night. I ordered noodles and they were dry and bland.my egg rolls had literally chunks of broccoli in it!! And the " manager" was so rude when I came in to pick up my order! For over 10 years, the yellow chicken curry has been my favorite, with its rich curry and tender chicken. When ordered as part of a $8.95 lunch special (served 10 am-2 pm daily), it comes with salad, vegetable rolls, fried rice, and ice cream. A good deal, and a filling meal. At dinner, however, the curry comes a la carte, and the same price nets a marginally larger portion that isn't quite enough on its own. The sticky rice with mango is absolutely scrumptious, but served only when mango is in season. My family likes the pad thai but finds the pad see ew unremarkable. The parking lot is small. This use to be my favorite Thai food place but they have changed recipes and are using cheaper products. I use to be able to get spicy fried rice and the green beans stir fried in oyster sauce that were fresh and crisp. Now they use French green beans, frozen I'm sure and they're mushy. The fried rice is dry now and all of the onion pieces were huge. No one bothered to chop anything, just large quarter of an onion pieces. We tried this one as recommended by a friend for our meet up. The Sampler appetizer plate is really good. The Pad See Ew beef was full of beef with tasty thin flat noodle, A perfect balance. Unlike most places that serves pad see ew with lots of noodle and you wonder "where's the beef?". Our family all commented that the crispy stuffed chicken wing was delicious.
