Since I was already in Fairfax, I finally had the chance to stop by Ned's New England Deck for lunch. I'd noticed they served whole belly clams, and I hadn't had them in years--not since my last trip to Maine, where my mom was from. Growing up, we spent summers there, and whole belly clams were always one of my favorite treats. They're almost impossible to find here in the DMV. I have to admit, I've had plenty of experiences where I get excited to try something and it ends up being disappointing. That definitely wasn't the case here. The fried whole belly clam platter was absolutely delicious. The clams were perfectly cooked, and the portion was generous enough that I saved the coleslaw for later. Yes, seafood is expensive, but this meal was worth it. The staff made the experience even better. The gentleman taking orders was genuinely kind. While I waited for my takeout order, he offered me a glass of water, which was especially appreciated after a busy morning of volunteering. It's a small gesture, but those little acts of kindness make a difference. The restaurant itself is charming, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and it reminded me of the casual seafood places I remember from Maine. They even have a fun promotion where you can roll dice for a chance to upgrade your lobster roll, which I thought was a nice touch. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Fairfax. If you've been looking for authentic whole belly clams in the DMV, this is the place to go.

The food was absolutely fantastic. We ordered the down east lobster roll, and the north shore beef sandwich. Everything tasted fresh and of high quality. The lobster roll had huge chunks of lobster in it. I love having a local restaurant where we can enjoy a delicious meal while the kids play. It was the most relaxing and delicious meal out we've had in a long time.

I have not been here on a regular day but I did stop by for an event being hosted here recently…read more The space is small but it is so cute. I loved the decor. The outside space is also nice. I could see this being a nice spot to go to on a regular basis just to grab a quick bite and vibe. I did not grab any food this time but I did order the caramel latte. Whenever I go to a coffee shop to order a drink, I am quickly reminded that I have no idea what I'm talking about. The lady helping me at the counter was so patient and helpful. I was going to try the Cherry Blossom latte but decided not to stray too much from what I'm used to. The iced caramel latte with oat milk was so good. It felt like I drunk it in two sips. I would definitely go back. I had a great experience.

The space feels intentional -- every corner has something worth noticing. Marco matched the space. He was attentive and helpful -- walked me through the hours, let me know when they do brunch, and even shared the best time to come. That kind of hospitality makes a difference. This is the kind of café you come back to. - Gabby | @forkandsmash | Real food. Real owners. Real stories.

The food started out really good until I got a forkful of hair in my meal…read more I called the restaurant to let them know what happened. It took a while to explain that I wasn't looking for a refund--I simply wanted a replacement meal. I live about 30 minutes away, so picking up the replacement required an hour-long round trip. While I was there, I also asked for a side of rice for my son's meal. I had accidentally ordered the chicken over salad instead of the chicken over rice, so I requested a side of rice to go with his food. Given that I was already making a second trip because of the hair in my meal, I thought the restaurant might extend the courtesy of comping the $5 side of rice. Instead, I was charged for it. The charge itself wasn't the main issue--it was the principle. After having to drive an hour round trip because of a mistake with my original meal, I felt that waiving the cost of a small side of rice would have been a reasonable gesture of goodwill. I'm not sure if it was a misunderstanding, a communication issue, or simply a missed opportunity for good customer service, but the overall experience left me disappointed.
