So as I'm thoroughly enjoying my chicken tikka sandwich and having just finished my chaik karak, I have only good things to say about this restaurant. Good service, a little slow on food preparation, but the wait time is worth it. The prices are good too, considering how much food you're getting. Seriously, they don't go by small portions, and me being a foodie at heart, well that's effing awesome. Anyway, Salam is a pretty darn good Middle Eastern restaurant, so make sure you stop by! After schlepping too-heavy boxes for the better part of the morning and early afternoon, I was starved for a great lunch. We decided to give Salam a try, and I loved it. I had the "Business Lunch" special, which includes a little bit of everything; from falafel to chicken, beef, rice, and salad. Pita bread, also. The service was friendly, the food was great. Arabic coffee - awesome! Arabic tea w/ mint - awesome! Lunch for two, with all of the above - about $20. I look forward to being a regular customer, now that I live in the neighborhood! read more

So inconsistent. When they're at their best, they make some pretty solid Middle Eastern food. Their hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, etc really are some of the best around. But they just don't seem to care enough to make a consistently great product. Half the time the falafels have been sitting under a heat lamp for hours or the baba ghanoush is too oily so it leaks over the take-out container. The shawarma is decent less than half the time. When it's bad, it's truly awful. Chewy meat, no char, too much fat. So what can I say? I haven't found a place I like better for Lebanese standards, but there are places that do individual items better. I just wish Salam could hit their high notes consistently. But I've had enough bad meals there that I'm considering writing them off completely. :-( read more

Haven't been here in years, not because of the food,but I was living abroad. I was surprised to see they have expanded and congratulations on doing well. There was two of us for lunch and we for the most part, enjoyed everything. Fried cheese, spinach pie, kibbeh, mixed platter, moulikiha with chicken, and mint tea. The one thing I was taught in culinary school was season your food, season your food, season your food, and the second thing, taste your food. Years later, I tell my students the same thing. Everything, with the exception of the cheese, needed salt. Moulikiha, is one of my favourite dishes but lacked salt, lemon, and garlic. Also, the rice seems to be of an inferior quality. Overall, we demolished everything, except all of the rice. With a few changes in the kitchen, I believe everyone would rate this place 5 stars in every review. read more

Salam was exactly what I was looking for. I love Middle Eastern food and did not have a go-to place in Albany Park. Now I do, since Salam totally exceeded my expectations. I received the recommendation for Salam from a friend, if I hadn't heard about the place from a trusted source I might not have come here. My wife and I came to Salam for lunch on a Wednesday. We ordered the standard Middle Eastern fare: hummus, lentil soup, chicken shawarma. It was all really good, especially the hummus. Hummus was good. service was good as well.. the bad: Me and my friend ordered 2 chicken tikka meals.. the never mentioned that their chicken tikki was inca pool of sauce... the taste was nothing close to chicken tikki we are familiar with... the rice was half cooked... they brought me a home salad which i didnt like and asked for a jerusalem salam instead... the waiter takes it and comes back with the same salad but with the addition of watery tahini sauce which looked nasty...we spent $40 for 2 after using the $6 off yelp checkin deal that they didnt seem happy about us using.. i will go back for the hummus though.. the falafel not so great btw read more

I've ordered online delivery from Salam for a small event twice now, and I've been happy with everything about it, the delivery time, help getting the food in the building, and the quality & quantity of the food. We used to live in this neighborhood, but I think when we last ate here it was under different management. It was quite a serendipitous find, as we were hungry late one evening in the Windy. Having gotten used to Milwaukee, a town that rolls up its restaurant welcome rug after nine, we weren't really expecting to find such tasty kifta kabob so close to midnight. The rice, felafel it's all good here, though the service is a bit ...well you get what you pay for, the prices are cheap, the portion sizes generous. They bill as Middle-Eastern cuisine, but I'm pretty sure the cooks are Palestinian (specifically). Make sure to grab some of the fresh made dessert on your way out. read more

My review is based on the management of this establishment. Terrible customer service. I love the broccoli and cheddar soup from this restaurant. Its delicious. And its the ONLY reason i bother to pay the high delivery fee on grubhub. Last night i placed an order with this restaurant through grubhub (where they charge a 7 dollar delivery fee!!!!!) and what i received from this restaurant was definitely under par. The soup i ordered - they didn't even fill the bowl up halfway. As i said before, the reason i order from here is for the soup - not the other food. When i called grubhub to tell them about what had happened, they investigated further. Upon speaking to the manager, grubhub discovered that they did indeed only give me a little bit of soup (im talking maybe 4 spoonfulls - 1/3 bowl at most) and to fix this problem the manager offered to refund the 5 dollars for the soup. The issue is not with money or refunds- it is purely principle here. I paid 7 dollars to have one of my favourite foods delivered - and they didn't even fill the bowl up. The manager refused to refund the delivery fee as i had received other food as well. I WOULD NOT HAVE ORDERED FROM YOUR RESTAURANT OR PAID THE 7 DOLLARS TO GET FOOD DELIVERED IF IT WASN'T FOR THE SOUP. I can get better falafels and meals delivered for 3 dollars - hence my frustration. The manager then proceeded to tell grubhub it would punish the delivery driver by refunding the 7 dollars as that was his pay. This is an absurd concept as the delivery driver did nothing wrong!The manager admitted to the mistake. As far as i'm concerned - the restaurant should take responsibility and just provide the refund for the soup, the delivery charge and probably the rest of the meal for the inconvenience it caused. These people need a serious check when it comes to customer service. I would be cautious when ordering delivery with this restaurant - as they didnt bother to deliver the food i paid for, and then when they admitted to the mistake, still would not refund the 7 dollar delivery fee. The rest of the food was for a friend, i had to then go to spend another 5 dollars to get more food delivered as this restaurant provided me 1/3 bowl of soup - which is obviously not a full meal. read more

So many Mediterranean restaurants, so little time. I came here with my sister for lunch one afternoon. I have to say, I was not overly impressed with Salam but I am willing to give it another go for reasons I'll get to later. My sister got some kind of a vegetarian plate which came with hummus, falafel, jerusalem salad and pita. I had a falafel pita sandwich with fries. We also ordered some tabbouleh salad. We both felt everything was just OK. The falafel was OK. The fries were OK. The tabbouleh salad was kinda weird...but OK. Nothing stood out BUT the hummus. I think Salam serves up some of the tastiest hummus I've ever had. It was delious. Dawali still holds the title for best falafel and french fries...in case you were wondering. The sausages and shawarma they were grilling up looked mighty good though so I will be making my way back to Salam for that as well as that tasty hummus. Welcome to Albany Park, probably one of the most ethnically diverse "cheap eats" neighborhoods in the world. Salam surely deserves its spot here. Salam is like Pita Inn's slutty cousin from the city, a touch more cultured and sassy, spicier, and with a touch more attitude. I loved it. $6 bucks off for checking in! It was... authentic? I'm not quite sure. I have an American palate; I didn't like the cubes of veggies in my pita. It was chunky compared to what I'm used to. Having been living in Cairo, I have developed the taste for good middle eastern food. Ordered the combo entree, good portion. Wasn't too hungry, ate two excellent pita bread and some of the meat and the babaganouj and packed the rest. Meat are all tenderly cook and definitely more healthy than the original in Egypt (but the street grease environment in the middle east is hard to match). Shai-bi-n3n3 is a must. Well, technically it is just ceylon tea with mint, but maybe I was just reminiscing. Hot mint tea is always good for the winter. Good food! I've been here twice now and still haven't found anything I loved. The falafel was not fresh both times (and hence not crispy), the shawarma was bland, and the rice so-so. They were out of several things last time which didn't really improve things (chicken kefta for example). I really liked this place after first checking it out tonight. The friendly staff made a new batch of rice for me even though it was late in the evening and a lot may go to waste. They also have a great solution to the pigeon problem in the city, a solution I found very tasty. I thought my favorite falafel was at Sultans... this is no longer the case, I'm at "peace" with Salam being my new favorite falafel sandwich. Their falafel made me sing praises, and it's a bit cheaper than it's across the street neighbor, Semiramis, which means my poor ass thinks it's even better. The sandwich I got was delicious and fresh and didn't bog me down. (A TMI moment, perhaps, but sometimes a place's falafel can wreak intestinal havoc for days). The only minor issue? The guy at the counter was pretty gruff with me. I thought that maybe they were closing soon (and was about to just get some hummous to go instead since it's pre-made) and when I tried to talk to him he just pointed me to a table to sit down and gave me an impatient look. Whoops. I don't hold it against him though. People have bad days, it was kind of late, and there may have been a language barrier. If you're looking for great middle eastern food at an affordable price this is the spot. Not fancy but clean and authentic. The baba ganouj is awesome as is the hummus. Falafel is good and like a quarter each. The meats (chicken, beef) schwerma are good. My only complaint was the lack of lamb dishes because I'm a huge fan of lamb schwerma. There is a beef and lamb blend which name escapes me at the moment that was pretty good, but overall it's a great place for lunch or dinner. read more
