it's pretty teeny tiny looking from the outside but surprisingly spacious inside with a fair number of booths and tables (and 4-5 tables out front with lime green umbrellas). but don't let that fool you because on any given weekday there will be a line to get some of these tasty fixins, so plan ahead. we did a late lunch mid week - still had a line but it was totally manageable and moved quickly. the decor is clean and contemporary, accented with that bright green color. i felt healthier just walking in. these guys dish up custom made-to-order salads with virtually every salad ingredient you could imagine (go ahead, name it - it's probably offered at salata). this is done assembly-line style, with at least half a dozen smiling salata employees doing their part and then passing your bowl to the next guy while you walk along issuing orders. you choose your size (their regular ends up being quite huge and so we split one), choose your greens from among the 5-6 they offer (or mix 'em!, they're totally up for letting you express yo'self) and then pile on the goodies. lots of veggies and fruits to choose from, plus several meat options. once your salad (or wrap) is constructed, they dress and toss it as you like. then you have the option of adding one of 3 homemade soups (we went tomato basil and it was delicious), a carb of some sort (rolls, tortillas), or some bottled drinks to your order before you reach the register. you can also opt for fountains drinks (an impressive assortment of iced teas - i went topo chico so did not see what else was over in the fountain area). take your masterpiece and find a table. while it's busy in there, diners also generally move quickly and clear their own tables - so you shouldn't wait long if at all. also, tables are wiped down quickly by staff, though they are left too wet so be prepared that you may have to dry them off with some napkins. we split a regular salad, a bowl of soup, an asiago roll plus a couple of topos. total damage was $18. there were a few upcharges, like $3-$4 for each meat, and $1 for avocado. to me, that's a little pricey for a lunch out (i rarely go out to lunch so maybe my price reference is from the dark ages) and i think i can bring this down a bit as i get more familiar with their offerings - but every bit of the food was super fresh and delicious. one slight weirdness was when the employee who had been cleaning the tables got off shift, went in the bathroom to change, and came out carrying his work shoes and clothing - and had to walk through the restaurant and past all the diners to exit. it was just an odd thing to see as in most places employees use a different exit than the customers. not a big deal, but just odd. anyway, go give them a try. they have the yums. read more

The best I can describe this place is to compare it to a Subway, but instead of sandwiches, you order salads. I love the metal bowls (weird, I know) and unless you're starving, order the small. Once you select your size, you'll make your way down the line, adding ingredients to your salad. There are a lot of choices and several "stations" with a different employee. I made a mixed greens and kale salad with lots of raw veggies, grilled chicken, and avocado slices. Everything is included in the price except the items at the end of the line (chicken, avocado, a couple of other items). I go to this location everytime im craving simple, great variety and fresh food. I'm a huge fan of their wraps and their simple salads are awesome as well. They are clean quick and they are both good to eat in and take out. I usually order from here with a group and they have never messed up a single order in a 1 year of working in this area. It's salad. It's hard to get excited about it. The best part about this place is that they have a ton of various options for all kinds of things to put in your salad bowl. Shit tons of green stuff, lots of cheese, lots of other vegetables, some fruits and shit, and even a bunch of nuts. You can pretty much have whatever the hell you want on a pile of green veggies. That is unless you want some low calorie dressing. Every dressing they have (with the exception of 2 shitty Fat Free ones) is creamy. Can you please offer at least two non-creamy dressings that are low in calories? Really, you don't even have a Lite Italian? Seriously, pretty much anything that the word "vinaigrette" in it will probably suffice. I don't eat salad because I love it. I eat it to eat healthy. So please, offer me a few dressings that don't taste like ass that have fewer than 212 calories per serving. A 2 oz serving of Wish Bone Balsamic Vinaigrette has about half the calories of your Balsamic... how is that possible? Oh yeah, it's also pretty expensive for a salad. I spent about $12 on a chicken salad. I think that's too much. The day has finally come! I have been longing for this type of place for some time now and I couldn't be happier it exists not far from my work place. Salata has tons of options- so much that your plate may end up a huge smorgasbord of stuff by the time you're done. For $8, you get all the veggies you want, any type of lettuce you desire and a slice of bread with either pesto, chipotle rub or just plain ole' whole wheat. If you want meat or seafood, it's a bit extra but its easy to finish off just under $10. They also offer soups and wraps but the salad bowl, filled with as much fresh ingredients you could ask for, is just the perfect sustenance to leave you feeling pleasantly content. read more

Typical chain, some are franchises, out of Houston. You walk across a giant salad bar, like a line of cattle, and pick your foods. It's a rushed situation, with no dining pleasure. The people behind the counter put the selected items in the silver mixing bowl. People are in a hurry, or, at the very least, in a hurry to be healthy. The items did not look spoiled; they seemed fresh. Very few tables available at lunch time. Be prepared to be flexible about staying or getting it to go. I was generally unimpressed. Came here with my 2 year old last weekend and we enjoyed it. I was glad to see that they have a kid's option which is a smaller salad or wrap. I think it was like three veggies and a protein or something like that. Unlimited toppings for adult size, I believe. My small human went crazy for the raspberry lemonade which was probably way too much sugar for him but a rare treat. We got wraps and I think I'll stick with salad next time. Didn't love the pita chips that came with my wrap. The place was very clean with nice bathrooms (but no changing table). A little pricey but very fresh and tasty. We stopped in at Salata for the first time last week for a quick dinner before an appointment we had. First off, the place is clean, airy and was largely empty. Bianca helped us and she was so patient and friendly, I have to give her a shout out. She let us sample quite a few things as we were unsure about dressings and which toppings to choose. Wow! So glad I found this place. I'm used to salad places that charge by weight and I end up with a $17 salad on accident. The flat rate pricing makes me not so anxious when I want to load up my bowl, and not so guilty when I only want 3 toppings and ranch dressing. The lettuce is crisp and all the veggies are bite size and very fresh. The customer service is outstanding; everyone was pleasant. Never a big fan of Salads. But my wife who is a regular salad eater for lunch forced me to have lunch at this place and this is one of the best and healthy food places in Austin I think. Souper salad was secretly one of my favorite places to get a fresh salad but most of them have closed since their ingredients continued to get cheaper and cheaper over the years. Salata has high quality ingredients and fresh marinated meats to go on the salad as well. For about $10-15 you can get a rockin salad with soup & bread.
