This restaraunt serves exactly what you'd expect: salads! You get to the counter and the workers are assemble your salad with all the various vegetables, fruits, protein, etc, etc, etc. What you should get at the end of the counter when you reach the cash register is a giant bowl of the salad that you assembled. The portion size is ridiculous but you're definitely getting tour money's worth. They have take home containers if needed just in case you want to finish your salad later. But as for my salad, it tasted fresh with every bite. The salad you make is completely customizable to what you want, there weren't any salad ideas or template visible from what I can recall that you could choose from. If you love salads or if you're just trying to eat healthier, this is definitely the spot I would recommend. So much bang for your buck as well. Also, the croissant was awesome! Whatever they seasoned on top of the croissant seems to have been baked in with it. I also came with my family in the middle of the day and it appeared to be pretty busy. There is seating outside if you like that! Just like any other salata. They had everything stocked, the food containers were clean, and the food turned out great! If you have any type of tolerances or allergies(gluten, but's,etc.), you just have to tell them and they will make sure your needs are tended to! This is a great place to eat if you're picky, voluntarily or involuntarily. If you've never had salata, it's just one of those places you need to go. I always ate at Salata in Houston when I worked there. That is why I was so happy when they opened here in San Antonio. Trust me, I do not take them for granted. Do not forget to add the crunchy delicious pita chips, or you will be sorry. The salads are huge and you will walk away full and satisfied. Now the reason why 4 stars instead of 5: On more than one occasion I have experienced unfriendly staff who look at you crazy when you ask for extra anything. I have been meaning to try this place for a while, but honestly salads don't seem very exciting so I kept putting it off. I finally went because I needed something light but nutritious after a workout and I'm so happy I did! We ordered through the webpage and were able to pay before hand. Food was ready super fast (faster than the confirmation email said) and they have contactless pickup (they place your bag in a rack with your name and you just grab and go). So Salata seems a bit hipster, big custom made salads or wraps, at least the don't serve them in mason jars or in a semi-worn boot, but I must say I really like this place. I have only made one visit so far and greatly enjoyed it. All they do is salads and wraps, but they have tons of ingredient choices including numerous salad base mixes from spinach to multi green mixes with greens, arugula and so on. I tried the Salata mix and added some spinach. Next they have around 50 topping choices, this is what I really love, because I love a stuffed salad, and doing it at home makes it tricky because it means so many ingredients, so I started adding in eggs, garbanzos, onion, tomato, peas, and so on and so on, probably around 20 different add ins, including one of my faves, good old pickled beets, you get cheese option, and I opted on some feta and parm, they also offer protein choices, but mine was already getting so hefty I didn't bother. I did decide to add some texture with house croutons, walnuts, and dried cranberries and fresh apple. For dressing they also have numerous options, my choice was a jalapeño avocado and balsamic vinaigrette, from here they tried to cram it all in a togo container, which they some how managed, and you get a choice of a mini grain roll/croissant or pita chips. I went with the roll. The large salad will easily fill you up, mine made 2 meals. The great thing is all the topping options you can put together just about anything you can imagine, or they also offer standard salad combos, like Caesar, Cobb and so on, but why limit yourself. I highly recommend stopping in for a light healthy meal, that should leave you well satisfied, and you can order online, but I think especially for your first visit putting it together in person is best as you can get inspiration with all the fresh ingredients. So if you are looking for a light healthy option, though if you try hard enough you could make it less healthy, but still better than your typical fast food, in about the same amount of time. I definitely recommend trying out Salata, I will definitely be back, and yes they offer military discount, always a plus in my book read more

In an honest review, this store is dirty and my experience here with the employees and the environment was un pleasant. This was my first time trying Salata and it was disappointing. 1. All employees had an attitude and seemed to be bothered with all customers and myself when ordering. As if we were a bother to have them work. 2. One of the ladies at the register had long pretty nails and was the only one with decent attitude. But, i saw her chew on her finger nails several times and did not properly was her hands afterwards. 3. Having 6-7 people on the floor but no cleaning was getting done. The tea area had visible trash and spillage, the trash cans by the front door had stacks of bowls and trays, the floors were dirty, the table tops were never wiped down. And neither one of them came out to clean any of these issues. 4. I understand customers, especially rude ones, are annoying. But, talk about them in the back and not in the front loudly when customers can hear you. I will and plan to try Salata again, but just not this run down location. read more

I love this place when i want a nice bountiful salad with my choice of stuff. My only complaint is that they never have their act together at opening time. Example, Im here on Saturday and the lemons for the tea have not been put out. Also a customer had to wait because they had not turned on the bread warmer oven thing. Taking away a star for that. I go alot and the employee named Robyn was mixing my salad and kept tossing ingredients out of the bowl because she was busy talking to this other employee about what time he was coming in the next day. I really felt ripped off because instead of putting the ingredients back in the bowl, including chunks of chicken, she just threw it in the trash. Also, in another situation I ordered a regular salad and added chicken which comes with two scoops of chicken, well this guy getting a wrap behind me saw me get two scoops, guess he was not aware that a wrap only gets a scoop, and so he told the girl to give him an extra scoop and he was not charged for it. All I'm saying is that I expect better service for $12 a salad. Came again on Saturday at 5:40pm. Unfortunately, the clueless and immature Robyn was working. I got the small salad bowl and then added 4 dollars extra for the seafood protein option. So glad I found this place!!! It's a Build-Your-Own format, but exclusive to salads and wraps. You walk down the line, and tell them what you would like on your salad. Every is so fresh! Much cleaner than a salad bar handled by the public! They have 3 'sizes' to choose: Small salad (which is actually large), Large salad (which is supersize!) and Wrap. I DO wish they had a Supersmall or Mini salad for smaller appetites/bariatric patients. I get a Small and take the rest home, but like all fresh salads, they only last a day at best. Lots of veggies, toppings, proteins, and dressings to choose from. Delicious teas available. I hope they expand and develop more sites in San Antonio. Here's how it works. Ever been to a Subway sandwich shop? It's the same drill but for salads only. Walk through the line and first, choose your salad size - small or large. (the small is actually a very decent serving size) Choose your leafy green type - they have 3 or 4 choices - a spring mix, spinach, something called the Salata Mix (which I had) and maybe one more that I can't recall the name of. Then choose your toppings, tomatoes, shredded carrots, onions, corn, a couple of different bean choices. Then they have several protein choices - chicken, turkey, and some others I think. These COST EXTRA though. There are a couple of other additional charges too, like the quinoa. I think the quinoa was $2-$3. Pay, take your salad, then sit down and enjoy! Great no cost add-ins, but the last time I was there, the romaine lettuce looked like it should have been thrown out 2 days prior! It was so bad, I avoided it! Protein and specialties like avocados are expensive, so by the time you get what you want, the cost is comparable to a decent burger place. Exceeded my expectations! Wanted a healthy lunch and saw this place was nearby. I did the online pickup, which went very smoothly. They had my salad ready waiting for me at my 11:30 pickup time, and I did not have to wait at all. The regular salad costs $11 if you add a protein and comes with a free bread item (I chose the croissant). The salad was huge! Definitely enough for 2 meals for me, maybe even more. My husband and I have been to just about nearly every salata location between San Antonio to Cedar Park. This location was among the most disappointing. The food, was great! The girls behind the counter filled my regular salad bowl to the brim. Amazing! Things started going downhill once the guy packed my salad into a togo box without ever asking me, and turns out, we were dining in. Then, we went to sit down, and every table was dirty. In addition, the leather was torn on several of the booth seats. We had to go get a paper towel to wipe everything down as there was an oily dressing all over our table. During the 30+ mins we were there, not one staff member took initiative to clean any of the tables. In a time where everyone is so cognizant of sanitation and cleanliness, this location falls far short of any expectation. Then, when we wanted a refill on our lemonade, it was empty. Was in San Antonio on business travels and I am a huge salad hound. So I wanted to try a restaurant that has salads as it's flagship product if there was such a restaurant in San Antonio. Salata definitely delivered and met that description to me. The restaurant was clean and what really stood out to me besides the build your own salad style was how they cared for me as a guest or customer. You start with selecting your base which are the types of green leafy veggies I got a romaine mix with some spinach. Then you move on to your toppings or other goodies for your salad. Oh the sizes are small and regular. I got a regular size and it is enough for two big salad eaters or maybe to make 4 side salads. Salada has several items to make up the salad there is jicama, peas, beans, sun-dried tomatoes, and various items. There is fruits too. I mentioned I have a food allergy to a fruit I saw and the server asked was my allergy extreme or highly allergic to the fruit. I have a high allergy and once I told the server she stopped making my salad and put what she had made to the side and told me for guests like myself they make the salads from a separate stock. So all of my salad was made from a stock to prevent any cross of the food I'm allergic to from getting into my food. Once you get your base and other veggies you can select a protein. I got a seafood salad as my protein. Then you will get salad dressing on the side and you can get homemade croutons or some other topping. They also have seeds too. The salad is not charged according to weight but are nicely priced. The salad was good. If ever into the San Antonio area try this restaurant. Salad places are for skinny chicks trying to lose weight and vegan cyclists. That's what I use to think for years before coming to places just like this one. Just imagine if Chipotle had a bougie salad tossing cousin, this would be it. It's like Soup or Salad by design but the selection and quality are on a much higher level. Also, the size of the regular bowl is impressively huge. I'm a big eater and I couldn't finish mine in one sitting. The choices they give you while selecting your ingredients are all over the place in the best of ways. From oddities like Purple cauliflower to staples like spinach and broccoli, these guys got it all. The protein selection was pretty respectable too. They had various seasoned chickens, steak (if I remember correctly) shrimp and more. The only thing that I didn't like was they charged like $4 or so for like 4-5 shrimp. I was a little annoyed by this level of greed/stingyness. But it was the only mistep on their part so I forgave them. The restaurant itself is moderately sized for what it is and seemed to be kept up pretty well as there were no trays, bowls or cups left on any tables when I went. The staff was very friendly and even let me try their seasonal vegetable which was the purple cauliflower (pass) and answered any questions I had. This place wins the gold medal for salad joints especially when compared to restaurants like Chili's that have it on the menu but really have mediocre standards for what they charge. If you love all leafy greens and want to do your body (and taste buds) some good, check this place out but just expect to a pay a little bit of a premium for what you get.
